Delivered to Ansett Airlines as VH-FNK in 1965. Here's a great clip that demonstrates the awesome piercing sound from the classic Dart engines.

I worked for a USA regional airline which used F-27s for several years. I'll never forget the sounds nor those times. So different than now. Thanks for the memories.
I was so obsessed with the f27 that I was desperately looking for model of f 27 and finally got one, its KLM city hopper.
Best sounding turboprop ever!
Got to love the RR Dart sound 🙂
I flew on numerous FH-227B jet-prop aircraft years ago, on Ozark Airlines! A wonderful airliner for sure!!
Im certainly interested in that.!!
Flew that plane many times as a pilot at Mesaba Airlines
I worked for Eagle from Feb 1, 1999 to Jan 31 2000 and I am proud to have flown the F-27 for Eagle Jet. Lots of good memories!! Great video!!!!!!!
Hung more than a few engines and props on that airplane while working for Messba. Then move to Vegas when they bought it and worked on it again for Eagle. Tough old planes. Loved them.
I love the high pitch roar of the engines my grandfather use to fly these planes the sound brings back memories
The sweet sound of RR Darts, puts me bact into the seat of the Convairs 600/640.
My first flight was an ANA's F-27 JA8618, RJNN to RJFO.
I used to see this aircraft often in Cairns, Australia, as boy when plane spotting at the airport. VH-FNK
Feels so close that I nearly "small" the exhaust - brings back old memories..!!
That plane has a serious rudder
My dad started with Pacific in 1958 and retired from NWA in 1993. Yes times have changed. He worked in Stockton most all his career. They used to handle the ground part of charters for visiting teams playing UOP in football. I remember asking to go in the pit of an Air Cal 737 to load the equipment for the Aztecs flight back to San Diego. His rampers were glad to send my 14 year old butt up there. Saved them the trouble.
Fantastic sound !!
@CAPlaneSpotting, some footage is from me but the vast majority is from my friend Craig who has built up a collection of 300+ VHS tapes from his days of spotting. He was at the airport nearly every day for 10 years collecting this amazing footage. The tapes were stored, covered in dust and I encouraged him to allow me to share his collection with the world.
Classic, five stars!! I will never be able to understand why there have never been any operators of the Fokker 50 in this country-considering the F.27 operators.
Having owned and operated the magnificent F-27, I understand perfectly. The F-50 was a fine airplane but it offered no economically useful advantages over late model F-27s. When you pay the bills, new is not a monetizable attribute. Jamie
@RyanBomar That's so cool! I'm so very glad you are posting these! I love the older stuff a lot.
@Channel79productions, what a great comment, thank you! That makes it all worth the effort.
Nice paintjob!
Flew on them a few times in New Zealand when I was a young fella - nothing memorable about them apart from them jumping around a bit over the mountains. Best thing was it didn't crash unlike the DC10 I flew in.
Awesome as usual Ryan!!!
F-27 was my all time favorite. Most rampers and flight crew didn't like it. Too noisy. Yesterday nieces and I flew with a retired 747 captain who started in 1956. He said he can no longer hear high pitched sound because of it, nobody knew about hearing protection then. Said it flew well though.
Shouldnt Have Edited The Moment When He Cut The Engine
@dave4shmups Mississippi Valley Airlines actually was intent on buying the Fokker 50 but they merged with Air Wisconsin....
cool
Hard to believe I last flew on N278ME in Sept of 1995 on its last revenue flight for Mesaba....
278MA..Mesaba Airlines
