It's a giant Pulse Rifle flying through space! That was my immediate thought when I saw it back in 1986! At first, I thought - "Yep, it's a giant gun-shaped ship!". Then, after watching the movie, I realized it's shaped very close to a pulse rifle! All it needs is the digital ammo counter on the side.😎👍

When I started writing Aliens fan fiction I set a lot of the first story aboard the Sulaco after the USCM detected it adrift and sent a team to find out why it had failed to return. Of course these marines found out that they weren't alone aboard the ship. The information in the Colonial Marines Technical Manual was invaluable when I was writing this.
The original sulaco was to look like a giant ball or sphere, james cameron didnt like it so they designed it like a giant gun and it does look like a giant pulse rifle like ship in the orbit scenes. Top class film for 1986.
The Alien universe is so cool. Humanity began the expand rapidly though space during the mid-2100's. We encountered a bleak, seemingly empty Milky Way until we encountered the remnants of Engineer colonies and their vessels. Xenomorphs existed in human colonists' nightmares and through swiftly hushed rumors through the ranks of Weyland-Yutani. Human nature didn't change, but what we began to encounter in the vast, cold vacuum would forever change our perception of what terror was.
And most horrible thing it that a really ideal bio-weapon by unknow origins. Look, one drone or another type has all system to establish a colony. Then the entire ship or station IS doomed. Too many things to keep in mind, too many possibilities to cut off. And you have all technical space, all holes and airducts to scan, secure, clean and maintain. Just to make sure it will not contain source of new treat in next 4 hours. Can you remove unknown amount of small ******** or some finalized xenomorphs from an entire dreadnought or even the whole station and be sure IT IS REALLY CLEAN?
I recommend you to make a video of the Alien Berserker (Frenzy) comic book, then Alien vs Predator War and Alien vs Predator Three World War to continue with Machiko Nogushi's story.
Great video... i forgot just how much technobabble they had in the tech manuals, and whatnot, lol. Small Nitpick: Why not mention the fact that Conestoga-class ships did actually have a traditional bridge?

something that always baffled about the movie was that there were still Marine riflemen but the Sulaco had no permanent crew. Made absolutely no sense.
Imagine what another alien film would be like with James Cameron at the helm instead of Ridley-Scott who in my opinion has lost the plot completely I think if James Cameron had another stab at it with today’s technology in media it would be one of the best sci-fi films released to date I might be wrong down in my opinion
All this seems like a lot to handle for a small group of Marines. Now I'm curious why the Sulaco didn't have a Navy compliment for ship operations. Still, a great video AT, thanks.
Dietrich was a Hospital Corpsman, but I completely understand and appreciate your valid point noted. I noticed some of the fan sites assume she is a Corporal, but those who served know Hospital Corpsmen are actually Navy assigned to Marine Corps units.
It could be because space travel is extremely demanding as far as fuel, and consumables are concerned. Everything-personnel, food, habitable volume is calculated down to the ounce.
@@tgarnett25 true, but the tech manuals mention that the complement of the Salaco is 90, but they only deployed half of a 26 man platoon plus Ripley and Burke. There is a lot more room left on board.
I always thought that there should of been more crew/marines onboard. I guess the company classified the mission and had the ship on auto-pilot with a flight crew in hyper sleep as backup only.
Seems unbelievable really. A real world naval ship would have Navy personnel running the ship...Marines are part of the Navy but generally don't run ships.
@@singletona082 A warship would require a naval officer to be in charge, not a Marine. This is, of course based on modern understandings of Naval practice and warfare. It's assumed Naval tradition will carry on into Space based operations, perhaps with some overlap of Airforce traditions. Warships don't view their personnel as cargo in any navy - even a transport ship (the Sulaco is an armed warship capable of ship to ship and ship to planet attacks without deploying troops that has transport capacity). Perhaps things are different in the Aliens timeline and that's why they send what look to be about half a platoon to a colony of 158 colonist to investigate a potentially dangerous situation with an extremely hostile organism, with zero back up. The Sulaco should have had at least a full platoon of 43 Marines (going by current US Marine Platoon numbers as a guide), with at least one Naval officer running the ship itself when they come out of hypersleep. However the influence of Weyland Yutani could explain why the Sulaco was sent undermanned and pretty much blind. The theme of corporate corruption and conspiracy are strong in the films, and it's obvious they have sway over the United Americas at least in the Aliens universe.
I liked the design enough to incorporate it in the fleet list in my little sci-fi bit. It fills a gap in the fleet list. When you need to deploy ground units but don't need a full scale troop deployment ship or heavy lander vessel. So far the Sulaco class ships come in 3 variants. The standard Mark 1 that is just a bit larger with different equipment, weapons, power and engine systems. Along with a greater capacity of drop ships ( 6) modified versions of what the Sulaco had. The Mark 2 is larger and packs more weaponry and drop ships that can deploy larger APC's. The Mark 3 is larger than the other 2 and has fewer weapons. It deploys directly to a planet's surface to land Type 3 Geist ground fortresses. Or walkers and different types of destroid class mecha.
James Cameron preferred the elongated shape of the Sulaco because of its aggressive association with assault guns, such as the pulse rifles used in the flick. Wise choice.
@@lovecchio420 I appreciate that bud yes they're great band but he removed my comment I was trying to show off my collection so others can enjoy... i might unsub from him... he seems very unworthy... You would think the pilot of the drop ship would at least be an officer or a NCO.. Ferro is only a corporal lol. Don't think I like the military hierarchy in the future all grunts piloting ships. Also I'm wondering who is the enemy that these vessels could possibly engage its only Xenomorphs. They seem massively armed to the teeth for space engagements.. but the United systems administration is the only power in the galaxy. I guess there must be other small civilizations out there that need blasting.

Then, after watching the movie, I realized it's shaped very close to a pulse rifle! All it needs is the digital ammo counter on the side.😎👍
After I saw it a few times, I thought it looked like a gun. Maybe I realized it when I saw the Director cut on Blu-ray that I bought years ago. It has extra footage. Really cool seen with stand alone sentry guns, it's like 20 minutes long. They never should have left it out of the original movie.
@@GENGHISKHAN-hk3qs Yep! The 'extended' edition of Aliens should have just kept the original stuff in. It didn't make the movie much longer and definitely made it even more interesting!
@@Axess-sv8nq it sure did! I loved the sentry gun seen, it was sweet!
Looks more like a highly detailed version of Sark's carrier in the original Tron movie.
Wow that is amazing I can't get over how much detail a game or a movie will have in its items the battleships and the transport ships and Mining ships
ROFL...just last week I was telling a friend I could listen to this dude read a tech manual...and here we get it.
The whole Alien saga really needed another movie tying Prometheus and Covenant all together ! Ridley please surprise us all and answer all “the questions!” ….I think the devout fans of this fabulously constructed universe deserve this ……….. and more ! Cheers
Wish we had information like this for the Predators ships. 34 years and I swear we still know basically nothing about their transportation
Read the Rage War books. That has a TON of Predator info. You can get all three on Amazon for about $20 if you have prime. Enjoy.
Rage war books may explain why so little is known.
@@GENGHISKHAN-hk3qs Lebbon needs to continue what he started with those books. I want to know about the place they mentioned at the very end of the series..
I dunno if i prefer it that way or not, i've become fearful of sci-fi writers and their knack for explaining away cool things in the least creative and stimulating way possible.
@@theamused8705 ya, I love Alien and Predator books, they are great. Imagine if they made Rage War into a movie? It would be the second best Sci-fi ever, after Termination 2 of course. I saw that in the theater when I was 13. It was really cool.
Always loved this design. Functional yet cool looking. I once had a model of it and the drop ship. I wish I still did.
Need to bring a marines miniseries to cable TV! Imagine a colonial marines with quality writing of Band of Brothers or The Pacific!
It's in the works. FX, I think?
Okay...that concept has given me wood.
@@suicidesamuraiz for real? Haven't heard nothing ...
@@thedudeabides3138 actually surprised it hasn't been done. Budget maybe. Rights holders maybe. I dont know. I've been wanting a quality USCM show for a long time! Doesn't need to be 10 season. Juts like 10 really good shows.. bring back Lance H for a nostalgia and maybe a Ripley flashback or two..
One day.
Would be cool. Show how the USMC morphed into the USCM in the cyberpunk future.
Imagine living in an era like this? It must be wonderful but frightening.
Aliens is one of the best movies from the 80s.. the creativity the art.. your imagination, my friend has no boundaries
The original sulaco was to look like a giant ball or sphere, james cameron didnt like it so they designed it like a giant gun and it does look like a giant pulse rifle like ship in the orbit scenes. Top class film for 1986.
First time I've ever heard anyone explain the Alien universe's FTL. Thanks for that.
one of my favorite ships featured on one of my favorite channels
👍👍
You suspiciously didn’t mention the number of cup holders. Actual important info.
Ahh a goodnight story for me.
Absolutely the best sci-fi ever created and such amazing details including in this content.
Im still burmin the flower to this vod...Stay Frosty
USG ISHUMURA would be a cool ship to cover.
The space vessel that resembles your pulse rifle!!! Absolutely perfect design!!!
this is some real nerdy type shit and love it! keep it up :)
I love this chanel! I think you were born to have an alien UA-cam lol. Just hope Disney doesn't ruin it...
Not exactly a battlestar or battle barge but still awesome.
It is small enough tactical warship.
Thanks alot for this Ultimate Breakdown of the USS Sulaco! Very Inspiring!
I recommend you to make a video of the Alien Berserker (Frenzy) comic book, then Alien vs Predator War and Alien vs Predator Three World War to continue with Machiko Nogushi's story.
This was incredibly detailed. Thank you.
I hope this ship or a similar one is showcased in the new Aliens game. Imagine fighting in the cryo bay... I would love that.
Or imagine a intellectual property where we can explore new places or ideas instead of constantly retreading old content... I would love that.

Great video... i forgot just how much technobabble they had in the tech manuals, and whatnot, lol. Small Nitpick: Why not mention the fact that Conestoga-class ships did actually have a traditional bridge?
Omg! You did it!
A video covering my favorite craft from the franchise!
ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT FTW!!!
SO Hyped for this!
ESKETITT!
Edit: I've also always been fascinated with the concept of rail guns. And my Sulaco's got'em!!
Ain't she beautiful?!
34 years since a good alien move
something that always baffled about the movie was that there were still Marine riflemen but the Sulaco had no permanent crew. Made absolutely no sense.
God damn beautiful as always!
I would love to see the Sulaco again. Hopefully the lore reinstates the ship by recommisioning the vessel into an active duty roll once again.
Imagine what another alien film would be like with James Cameron at the helm instead of Ridley-Scott who in my opinion has lost the plot completely I think if James Cameron had another stab at it with today’s technology in media it would be one of the best sci-fi films released to date I might be wrong down in my opinion
I believe you are correct sir. Cameron could really fire things up again.
Too bad Ridley utterly killed this franchise. Between him and the AvP movies the damage has been done, nobody has interest in these movies anymore
Excellent stuff... Thanks for the video
Much appreciative of this video!
Always loved how it was in the shape of a pulse rifle.
as the actors said in a interview, "Fuck Alien 3!" Sulaco lives on.
Okay, Butthurt Aliens Fanboy.
@@NebLleb Are you ok? Sounds like you need a hug.
I always thought that there should of been more crew/marines onboard. I guess the company classified the mission and had the ship on auto-pilot with a flight crew in hyper sleep as backup only.
You misspoke on the length it is 731.52 meters in length!
The fact that the Sulacco was to be decommissioned anyway just adds to how much the W-Y Corp wanted the Hadleys Hope Rescue to fail.
Well played.
I can’t believe they let a bunch of grunts have complete run of a ship like this.
Is that you, Burke? Gorman?
Seems unbelievable really. A real world naval ship would have Navy personnel running the ship...Marines are part of the Navy but generally don't run ships.
Run of? To be blunt? The humans are essentially cargo.
@Daniel Robinson possible dumb question. Are we sure the ship's entire staff was marines or of it was a naval ship seconded to the marines?
Yeah but the cornbread sux
😂😂😂❤
Not so advanced after all.
That's jusbecause you hillbillies actually have a gastronomic criteria for cornbread.😂😅
Holy shit man so much detail!
Tritium not "trillium."
James Cameron preferred the elongated shape of the Sulaco because of its aggressive association with assault guns, such as the pulse rifles used in the flick. Wise choice.
First! Game over man! Game over!
Extraordinary detail. Amazing!

Incredible video and briliant channel. Congratulations.
Great info for a ship that spent about 5 minutes in the film.
I'm glad I caught this video with the Indiegogo campaign still going. I went with the Admiral Kirk tier because I like the physical stuff.
Interesting! I observed the details on my Eaglemoss model, while watching this video. Very accurate!
What else can we milk out of these movies : who made the shoes ?
