The diffusers state for 3D folders, would they work well for standard embossing folders?

This is such a cool thing... and I love the pink card best (both pink ones actually).
I was wondering... could you make an impression with, say, the frame style diffuser plate and then make another impression in the blank space using a different embossing folder and the shape of the blank space? Not sure I've explained that, but hope you can understand what I'm asking... but do you think that would work? You could colour the frame part before you impressed the second and keep one impression more "simple" than the other, but I'm wondering if the idea would work.
