John Arch sounds even better than ever. The night at the Webster was the greatest night of my life. I think John is finally starting to realize how special he is and how much of an impact he has made on this world. And I love each and every backing member of this band! Jim Matheos, Joey Vera, Frank Aresti and Bobby Jarzombek are all amazing!!
Diehard fan here that just died.....now this is Metal heaven....never missed a show and I certainly pray they bring this live...John always was and always will be my favorite singer....whenever I need to learn something about vocals I listen to Fates Warning... both versions are learning tools in every musical aspect...John and Ray are my vocal teachers for life
Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't stop with just this ONE record. Progressive Metal needs this right now. It's time for another album. Jon Arch is easily one of the most underrated singers of all time. He certainly is one of my musical heroes. \m/ \m/, 2 horns way up in the sky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***** John also challenges Jim Matheos to write this amazing music. Same band minus John Arch delivered an awesome record ( "Darkness In A Different Light") but that one is not as musically rich as this release.
Pedro Ordonez Thing is, Matheos wrote most of the music with Alder in mind. He brought it to Arch after Alder was either unable or unwilling to start working on it. I agree with you that Darkness isn't quite as interesting musically, but I think that's because Matheos kinda blew his wad on this one. And it's still damn good; I'm frankly all for a world where we get Fates albums with both singers.
Many years of not singing.....not a minute lost! Thanks John for satisfying our craving! What an awesome guy for putting his family first for all those years. Youa re a gentleman with character and integrity. Hats off to you sir!
I get it that he did put his family first, and should be commended for such. Still one of the great what-ifs in metal... What if he hadn't turned down Dream Theater when they were starting up and wanted him as their original lead singer? We could've had a lot more time and albums with him to enjoy. But these new songs sound great!
Cry me a river That flows through fields of dreams Through the wings of the nightingale And twilight memories An angel's gentle kiss Of lifeless breath within your mind So beautiful the symphony, disjointed and sublime Close your eyes and dream your life away, away Forever and a day, queens of the May Beckon you to dream your life away See though the mirror How it seems ever clearer now Translucent and so surreal My scars just fade away A passion play of shadows Sings a midnight serenade The rush of guilt for all my thoughts Comes to light as another day Close your eyes and dream your life away, away This abstract masquerade in disarray You're the pawn, so dream your life away The willow tree, I engraved your name A thousand tears, it still remains Cold November rains wash your blood from my veins And as the hours meld into the years Windows to my soul reveal The answer to my prayers Is not the dream, but to believe Close your eyes and dream your life away, away Forever and a day, queens of the May Beckon you to dream your life away Close your eyes and dream your life away, away This abstract masquerade in disarray You're the pawn, so dream your life away
This song delivers a clear point with it's lyrics. When people have problems with their lives, instead of changing their circumstances and acting upon them, they simply take shelter in comforting thoughts and religious doctrine in particular, for comforting themselves. In the end, he says "Sanctuary I can't face another day, So I'll dream my life away." So we should act upon our problems before they become problems for our belief systems and on our character. We should be active about our ambitions, wishes and problems. For staying passive, daydreaming about things, will get absolutely nothing done and we will only delude ourselves. This song is a good reminder for me.
This is my favourite song when i ride my bike in the morning going to school ... I LOVE THIS BAND and specially Bobby jarzombek i think he is the best drummer on EARTH
It amazes me that over two decades have passed and John's voice has not changed. He still one of the most instantly identifiable and unique voices in Prog and Metal past or present. I've always loved his voice.
This video continues to give me chills, I love how everyone is completely in their own little world while playing (or singing)... This Arch/Matheos album is easily one of the best progressive metal works of the decade in my humble opinion, and I would be absolutely stoked to see another album from the group!
Right here are Masters of the Craft. This record is a masterwork front to back. So truly grateful they came back and so kindly blessed us with this record. 🖤
Hartford CT show was absolutely tremendous, one of the best shows ever, Frank's shreds and vocal work was amazing, John "The Master" Arch is the true master of his art! Thank you for such tremendous album and a magical night @ The Webster... Let's do it again guys, please?
This is exactly what fates warning would sound like if arch was still in the band.An instersting choice of notes as with all his other recordings. True genius.
whatever anyone thinks of this... remember Arch created/defined this vocal style and ruled it since 1984.. NOT many artists (in any genre) can wear thet win. personally i am into different styles now but 1 word from Arch and i get instant goosebumps and are right back in the mid/late 80+ rocking out in new territory :-)
And Cheyanne ! Omg , I can hear that 3 times in a row , and I am a studio musician with hundreds of songs ,that I played all the instruments and composed all of it , and that song ,wow
Actually, selling furniture or whatever John's been doing has arguably been the best thing he could do for his voice. He hasn't been straining nightly like many of his peers.
Why do they have a totally different feel than when they do Fates? John still has a great voice! The more I watch this video I'm really starting to like it. Been listening to FW since Perfect Symmetry. The guys are just geniuses. Ray and John are two of the best singers ever in metal. And totally underrated! Just like FW, and Jim Matheos!!
Yeah Ray is my favorite singer!! And we share our birthday. My biggest influence on my original material, (singer), and he's only a year older than I am!!!!
Rachel Schommer fates warning rule iron works buffalo. Engine and redemtion. Arch is great ohh shit forgotfrank aresti solo album. Jag panzer iced earth with the ripper tim owens on vocals
John Arch is special..Matheos know that,we know that..I grew up with Fates and still after all those years they seem wonderfull..i will always listen to their music..John for me is the most influential vocalist of the 80's and 90's no matter if he wasnt in the spotlight like Ray Alder was..That makes him even more special.cause his voice is a gift from God..!!!!
New Listener here.. Awesome band, vocals are perfect and drummer is epic.. The music industry is so cut throat anymore.. 10-15 years ago these guys would be mega superstars
i bought this because john arch is back from my past again this whole cd is the shit i haven't listen to a cd repeatedly this many times since the 80's!
@georafik sorry about the confusion dude, I was speaking as a fan. It's been 8 years since Fates/Queensryche/DT toured together. Now with Jon Arch in the mix, they can give us a real treat.
I'm feeling it, I like the drummer alot he is riding that strange plane wear the music is just pure artistic and doesnt have any feelings attached to it. The lyrics are really bad ass as well I like during the chourus the guitarists are appregaiting notes and letting them ring out, gives it an etheral feel IMO.
Ah, I don't know Gavin Harrison too well, but the little I've seen him is very very impressive. I watched his "19 Days" Live @ Modern Drummer and I probably replayed it 20 times in a row. I loved it so much! He looks like the chillest player ever. So comfortable with everything.
Yeah, he's indeed great. I checked out some of his older stuff, and you're right... his dexterity is incredible. I thought it was unusual the way he hit those cymbals behind him in some of those older clips - I don't think I've ever seen that before. He's certainly becoming one of my favorites; my all-time favorite drummer being Gavin Harrison.
Jim Matheos has said multiple times in interviews that He was ready to record Sympathetic Resonance as the next Fates Warning record with Ray Alder but Ray had other commitments and the opportunity to reunite with John Arch was there, so they took the opportunity. Supposedly a new Fates record with Alder is in the works and should be out later this year.
Love it !! I am a big fan of older and more recent Fates Warning. I also think that Matheos and Aresti are probably 2 of the most under rated guitarists out there
Fates are like 2 different bands regarding Arch/Alder. What many of you are forgetting, or maybe don't realize is that Arch's voice couldn't handle the touring schedule. He was losing his voice due to the high demands and nightly shows. So, HE quit. Ray stepped in and did a remarkable job. But, what made Arch a valuable member was his lyrics. His lyrics are SO intelligently written and he expounds on many subjects in such poetic ways. Ray never really was a lyric writer. Matheos wrote mostly everything for him at first. No arguments please. Just read the credits on albums like "No Exit" and "Perfect Symmetry." It's in black and white.
Abby Synth Thirst-n-Howl ... according to Arch, the band was having meetings without him (and when that happens, you could imagine the topic of discussion), and agreed to remove him from the band and find a replacement. I'm not sure there's been an interview where Arch stated that he "quit", only that, after the initial shock of it wore off, that he felt peace with the path that he ended up taking (saying it's worked out well for him and for Ray, who are actually good friends) I'll agree with you on the lyrical part, though. Arch's poetic weavings have truly been missed 😕
I don't typically throw around cheesy comments like this, but John Arch's heart and soul were clearly in this album. Simply beautiful, perfect music.
Arch is a genius! the vocal line...my god....
I totally agree!!
I have always loved the way he is able to fit lines into places where there is seemingly no space for them
Wow, here is an example of people doing what they were made to do, with all their heart and soul; and it is amazing to behold.
Sound just as good as they did in the 80's, nice to see Frank..X..still kicking ass, always loved his playing!!
Diehard fan here that just died.....now this is Metal heaven....never missed a show and I certainly pray they bring this live...John always was and always will be my favorite singer....whenever I need to learn something about vocals I listen to Fates Warning... both versions are learning tools in every musical aspect...John and Ray are my vocal teachers for life
You said it!! Arch is my favorite as well. Been listing to Fates since the beginning now I am 51 and still love it
Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heather Ward Agreed!! More Arch/Matheos/Aresti/Jarzombek/Vera!! Why so many people hate on Jon's voice is beyond me.
And it's still damn good; I'm frankly all for a world where we get Fates albums with both singers.
+aldersmoke1 Actually only a few of the songs were written beforehand.
The first three songs were intended to be Fates songs. The rest of them were written after John got involved.
This song should be huge. If the music industry was remotely functional anymore, this'd get radio play somewhere and catch on like wildfire.
Cry me a river
That flows through fields of dreams
Through the wings of the nightingale
And twilight memories
An angel's gentle kiss
Of lifeless breath within your mind
So beautiful the symphony, disjointed and sublime
Close your eyes and dream your life away, away
Forever and a day, queens of the May
Beckon you to dream your life away
See though the mirror
How it seems ever clearer now
Translucent and so surreal
My scars just fade away
A passion play of shadows
Sings a midnight serenade
The rush of guilt for all my thoughts
Comes to light as another day
Close your eyes and dream your life away, away
This abstract masquerade in disarray
You're the pawn, so dream your life away
The willow tree, I engraved your name
A thousand tears, it still remains
Cold November rains wash your blood from my veins
And as the hours meld into the years
Windows to my soul reveal
The answer to my prayers
Is not the dream, but to believe
Close your eyes and dream your life away, away
Forever and a day, queens of the May
Beckon you to dream your life away
Close your eyes and dream your life away, away
This abstract masquerade in disarray
You're the pawn, so dream your life away
Awesome lyrics
3:27 is where John drops some jedi-knight vocal mixing skills. Nothing short of sheer brilliance.
Second day of giving this song a real good listen. I'm hooked!!! I'm a Ray Alder and FW guy, but always loved John's voice. I'm hooked!!
This song delivers a clear point with it's lyrics.

This song is a good reminder for me.
Arch is truly unique in vocal as well as phrasing! Love the music. Entire album OWNS IT!
John Arch is the best progressive metal singer and brilliant, there is no singer in the world like The best John Arch.John Arch Rules
This is one of my favorite songs from their new music.
One of the best albums of 2011....hands down.
It is so good to have John Arch making music again.
This is my favourite song when i ride my bike in the morning going to school ... I LOVE THIS BAND and specially Bobby jarzombek i think he is the best drummer on EARTH
This album has become the soundtrack to my life!
Awesome!!!
Thank you to John Arch for making this record!
It amazes me that over two decades have passed and John's voice has not changed. He still one of the most instantly identifiable and unique voices in Prog and Metal past or present. I've always loved his voice.
This album is earth shattering. If could just see John sing 1 song live now... i could scoop my eyes out with a spoon and quietly expire.
It's like the best of Fates reborn into the 21st century.....The whole album is an incredible achievement!!
This video continues to give me chills, I love how everyone is completely in their own little world while playing (or singing)... This Arch/Matheos album is easily one of the best progressive metal works of the decade in my humble opinion, and I would be absolutely stoked to see another album from the group!
New album due this year!!
Dudes still got some pipes! Great album.
Right here are Masters of the Craft.
This record is a masterwork front to back.
So truly grateful they came back and so kindly blessed us with this record. 🖤

This is exactly what fates warning would sound like if arch was still in the band.An instersting choice of notes as with all his other recordings. True genius.

Arch is not human. Beyond his old stuff, listen to Cheyenne...holy crap
Munchymeow11 And Relentless!! Amazing song too
The best thing that ever happened to FW is Arch leaving and being replaced with Ray......
New Listener here.. Awesome band, vocals are perfect and drummer is epic.. The music industry is so cut throat anymore.. 10-15 years ago these guys would be mega superstars
MASTERPIECE!
best project of decade. melhor projeto da decada
Bobby Jarzombek the best fcking drummer in the world!
He’s definitely out there
There is no such thing.
He is a monster

Bobby is the man. Period. And the bass master Joey. Matheos rules. The real Fates here
UNDERRATED!!!!
So excellent. Can't wait for the new album.
Easily Arch's best vocal performance ever.
Great to see John Arch singing for Jim Matheos again, The Spectre Within was one of my favorites back in the 80's. Also Bobby Jarzombek is killer
I loved both albums & wish that said I wish they had put out a live album
Fate's warning REBORN
OMG this is pure gold.
Welcome back Arch.. glad to hear you again.
Crazy how long ago this came out. John Arch is awesome!
@georafik
sorry about the confusion dude, I was speaking as a fan. It's been 8 years since Fates/Queensryche/DT toured together. Now with Jon Arch in the mix, they can give us a real treat.
"No Exit" in an alternate universe? We'll never know, but this is awesome.
Truly an Icon Arch is amasing
This is some brilliant work. Progressive metal at it's finest. This lineup works!
Awesome song from and incredible album.
The time has come to give the fans what we've dreamed about - Arch Matheos, Fates Warning, Queensryche, and Dream Theater on tour together!
How is this already 11 years old 😳
This popped up in my feed again. I commented on it 9 years ago. 😂
John Arch, the monster voice!! Great singer
This is truly a great work, I love these guys.
So emotional and beautiful... Thank you, the Fates Warning for this masterpiece.
GREAT TALENT BAND PROG CONGRATS GUYS 👋🎸🎹😎☀️🔥
No disrespect to J. LaBrie, but imagine John Arch in Dream Theater...
Album of the year for me!
I only waited what... 20 years to watch this video?
And yet, it couldn't be better...
Long live Fates Warning and Arch/Matheos!
Great to have the guys back together again. And what a bonus to have bobby on drums what more could you ask for?
LOVE this lineup
Ah, I don't know Gavin Harrison too well, but the little I've seen him is very very impressive. I watched his "19 Days" Live @ Modern Drummer and I probably replayed it 20 times in a row. I loved it so much! He looks like the chillest player ever. So comfortable with everything.
Killer song, album and line-up. See you guys at Keep It True 2012!
Matheos writes some great riffs.
Awaken the master vocalist John Arch !!
I don't even know much about fates warning, this band is some of the best metal I've ever heard
Yeah, he's indeed great. I checked out some of his older stuff, and you're right... his dexterity is incredible. I thought it was unusual the way he hit those cymbals behind him in some of those older clips - I don't think I've ever seen that before. This Saturday night!!!! Shows gonna be amazing!!!!
This album is fucking awesome. Bobby is a Drummonster! When you come to Chile?
Unbelieveable song - it creates a killing atmosphere!!!

Supposedly a new Fates record with Alder is in the works and should be out later this year.
Best drummer of all times.
Awesome band love this music
For the love of god Jim, PLEASE make another album with John Arch. The world needs it.
Wtf. Happened to frank aresti. John kills it all the members of fates warning. Are awesome musicians jim john joe bones ray steve redemtion. Engine.
Love it....
Love it !! I am a big fan of older and more recent Fates Warning. I also think that Matheos and Aresti are probably 2 of the most under rated guitarists out there
so amazing
An incredible Voice!!
so good it almost hurts!!!
