The Titan Techpriest has less bulky augmentation so that he can move around inside the Titan. An Engineseer, who walks across the battlefield singing hymns to Imp Guard battle tanks needs more Armour and wears an equivalent to power armour

Mechanicum has some of the best looking stuff, especially the knights and automata.

the ordinartus are a volcano cannon (like from the big titans) and a massive sonic blaster respectively. Helps with scale.

I actually just made my first Forgeworld order ever. Basically at first I just wanted to buy some death guard shoulderpads and Ryza pattern lascannons for my ambot kitbash project ''inspired by you,great idea to just stack the legs'' but then I saw the Domitar battle-automata models and just knew that I had to get at least one of those for my heavily kitbashed steam tank/dreadnought project so I also grabbed couple of contemptor lascannons for those since they are roughly the same size.
For anyone interested in the actual list it's for Age of Sigmar and it's basically just a cities of sigmar army where all of the smaller roughly dreadnought sized things are run as steam tanks and the leader of the army is a general in a steam tank,which makes it so all of the steam tanks stop being behemoths and become battle lines,meaning you can have as many tanks as you want to. Also since it's cities of sigmar army you can use few Stormcast eternal units as additional leaders or just troops for more field presence so you could add something like a Lord-Relictor in there to have some magic at your disposal.
It's not *just* a massive drill on tracks, it also has a rocket engine strapped to the back! XD
I have myrmidons models for my 40K dominus and my datasmith; the thallaxi instead of kataphrons, the Castellaxi instead of the 40K space robots, some peltasts.. I absolutely love the 30K range and I use the models shamelessly to proxy the models I don't like in 40K. ^^
I want that scorpion guy as a second lord discordant for my black legion.
I love the insectoid appearance of the mechanicum stuff, and how the rounded tops on a lot of the models remind me of beetles.
Skitarii and Secutarii are very similiar to the ancient roman Triarii elite troops. Hoplites were ofcourse ancient greek footmen and Peltasts were ancient skirmishers who threw spears similiar to javelins. It's a very nice mix of visual and verbal throwbacks to the roman legions and old latin culture :D

Stratos were used by all Mechanicum forces back in 30K. After the Horus Heresy, traitor Dark Mechanicum forces which would offer their services to Nurgle would undergo a change in their arsenals. And so, for instance, Stratos automata became blight drones.
That voltarax stratos always reminds me of the foetid bloat drone for death guard... not a fan of it personally but that might just be because I can't stand DG lol. 🤷♂️🤣
the bloat drone is made by dark mechanicum, most propably with same base and then gets a demon stuffed into it.

24:20 I look at that and all I see is the Dreadknight of the Grey Knights, but if he's carrying anyone they're hidden. The hands and weapons just look spot-on like a Dread Knight.

I remember seeing the Myrmidon Secutors and Destructors when they first launched and just instantly falling in love with them. They just look so good, so huge and good. They look exactly like what a Tech-Priest who is just utterly dedicated to his craft and the science of war would build himself into over decades of experimentation and refinement.
I even used a picture of the Secutor model with the hood and the Maxim Bolters as the character art for a Magos Secutor NPC in a Dark Heresy campaign as it was the only image of a Tech-Priest I could find that was sufficiently bulked out, armed and augmented to be almost unrecognisable as once human.

Even though the robots in the mechanicum line still have that 50's Lost In Space/ Fallout look. The fit better with the Army than their 40k cousins.

The vulterax stratos looks like kinda like a Nurgle thing with how weirdly bulbous it is. Like it's a giant flying pustual thing with some machinery shoved inside to keep it going. Throw some boils and a gross looking paint job on it and it would totally look like a nurglite daemon engine.

@@davidthomas2870 there's also the Blight Drone, which is basically what you described and is on Forge World as well. Sort of looks like an intermediary between a bloat drone and the mechanicum drone

I really like the less weird (of course that’s relatively speaking) models in this range, especially the Hoplites and Peltasts along with the Phalanx. Some of the pure robots are cool too. To be honest though some of the weirder ones are weird behind the range that I find cool lol (like that first freak you began this range review with).
We play more 30k than 40k around here and we have a few Mechanicum players here. My Mechanicum plays pretty well like every other 30k armies plays pretty well :-) I think you have to drop that 40k thinking of valid armies in 30k because nearly everything is absolutely playable just depending on the use case you dedicate it for.
Everyone: We LOVE the mechanicum look and flavor of true cog and machine.

I personally run the Castelax in place of the kastellan in standard 40k, just for the reason that they look so freaking cool in comparison to the kastellan

I wish the ordinates looked more like the old epic ones. Kits are stunning anyways though. The part featuring one in hh mechanicum basically sums up the whole thing.

My only problem with the range is almost all of it can't be played in 8th... Atleast ATM those reworked rulebooks may add a few.
The Mechanicum Castellan looks WAY better than the GW one, I agree.

Didn't think it was possible to talk about machines as burly men.... that's some new-Lando type stuff.
The Karacnos Assault Tank looks like a Yuri MCV rom Command and Conquer, which I don't think would look out of place here also.
I can't shake the feeling these guys were the backbone working force for establishing/ maintaining all the Forge Worlds in the imperium until they had a civil war and went "Right , keep the arms but add some armour & guns and set them on auto mode, we're out of here !"

The vorax are the modern take on one of the original robot designs from WD 104ish(?)
Today I learned that both GW and Forgeworld have no concept of tank design.
No suspension, no tension wheels, no road pads, drive wheels making contact with the ground is ALWAYS bad, wasted track going over doorways, sponson weapons were abandoned for a reason, and that's before concerning ourselves with the turrets, power packs, armor, placement, or their utter lack of skirt armor.
The Vorax are based on the old Rogue Trader Crusader class robots.

Why does nobody talk about how to stratos is clearly a precursor to the DG Bloat Drone/ Blight Hauler? It's even got guns identical to the Havoc Launchers used by CSMs
How does that giant drill tank attack I wonder? It’s positioned too high to attack anything other than tall vehicles by simply ramming... maybe with what looks like engines at the back it flies off the tracks to shred things?
Anacharis Scoria used to be a Primarch killer in 30k, he could 1v1 every single primarch except Magnus due to warp fuckery if I remember correctly, then his weapon got nerfed and he became a lot worse unit.
The titan techpriest is so much older thant the rest of the range. At least 20 years old. So it makes sence that it look a bit different or more simple tven the rest.

The tank were designed in the 90s when they were going to realise a tech army. But someone gave a load to some one else and they dropped the idea.

What I find hilarious, is that, even though those Ordinatus (Saggitar, Ulator and Akteaus) are huge, in the lore they are classed as "Ordinatus Minoris". Meaning they're one of the smaller weapons available to the Centurio Ordinatus. Just imagine if FW ever made a "Ordinatus Majoris", it would table an army in one shot xD
Sadly the true Ordinatus are "planet locked" as they are either A - way too big to move or B - the local Mechanicus doesn't share their toys so it wouldn't make sense lorewise to have them.

It is SUCH a pity that almost none of these models can be used in 40k.
I hope Forgeworld releases more 40k rules for some of these units to go along with Engine War.
most propably won't happen as most of the mechanicum stuff from 30k hasn't been used by mechanicus since the heresy, maybe when we get dark mechanicum we get some of the servitors

It pisses me off that I cannot use any of these AMAZING models in my 40k battles. I got this book and compared it to the trash we get in the Admech book and I would take these models over the Admech ones any day.
Admech looks weird just to be weird but Mechanicum looks like their units were made for FUCKING WAR!!!

The way the hoplites have their shields attached I'm not a big fan of. It looks like a bad conversion imo rather than a natural armament.

If the 40k range looked as good as the 30k range I'd play admech. Don't get me wrong the 40k stuff also looks like a bunch of mad cap science experiments turned into weapons, but I somehow the 30k stuff just looks more industrial.

only the hoplites and peltas, all other stuff hasn't been used since the heresy so lorewise they are out of the game.

yes I agree, Mechanicus loves ancient technology, in 40k the ancient technology that already exists is ten thousand years more ancient than it was in 30k, so surely there is more reason for them to be used and deployed? plus they look cool.
Issue here is the fact that after the heresy and the problem with the "Sentient" automata that became sentient while hanging out with the word bearers as well as the "Innocence Lost" Incident during the Marsian civil war that released a demon-infused scrap code into the networks and data vaults of Mars that pretty much made all of the older databases unusable or chaos corrupted to the point where they just had to be sealed away as they could not be used or destroyed. Due to this Mechanicus stopped making Automata as they were seen as too dangerous and too easily corruptable and they lost a lot of the STC for making the more advanced ones. Castellan are the only ones still in use due to the fact that they need a new commando for any action they do, the 30k Automata were more independent and could actually do stuff without a tech priest babysitting them all the time.
Start playing 30k and you have all the sweetness in one place.
