I was born in Swindon hospital, and lived there for twelve years until social services found out my mother was abusing and neglecting me so I got moved three hours away, this video brings back a few
Wow. So much has changed, but I left in 1976! Still it was incredibly familiar and a really well made, hugely enjoyable video. Great to see the games and toy store called “Spot On” - as a kid I used to buy toys and a “observer books” from a shop in Regent Street called “The Spot” - makes me wonder if the new store wasn’t a reference back to that store! Thanks for posting this!
Excellent, and thanks for the walk. Reminded me of my time and walks in Swindon where I used to come on biz trips very often. The old Savoy is still there)) Have been hoping to see Pipers Way where I used to stay in a hotel with the office being just across the road. Good memories.
Brilliant!! I have been hoping to see a video of my Hometown for so long now, you know, a proper walk through. I found myself narrating it as you walked from Old Town down to Fleet Street. Is it still called Fleet Street btw? For some reason I thought the name had changed. I left Swindon back in 1987 but I was there very briefly 3 years ago to bury my brother. I was so busy closing his flat in a week that I didn't have time to explore anything while I was there. Thanks a lot for filming this, I am very happy to see a walk through the place where I grew up.
@@CARLIN4737 living in that gloomy city gave me a false perception of Britain as whole glad i left it to explore the superior and sophisticated cities Britain really had to offer . Looking back Swindon was a mundane drab cesspool
Really great video, thankyou. Nice to see my hometown after being away since 1999. Many things have changed, but a lot I recognise. I remember working in town centre Sainsburys(not sure if it's still there?) Nice to walk through Old Town as well, vseeing Blaylocks Shoes on the corner still!! Finally nice to see Swindon has a proper library, I remember the prefabs when the town had been promised a decent library! (thought it would never happen) Lots of nostalgia and find memories. Thankyou. Maybe one day I'll return....
@@shaunaleigh3500 Slough and Swindon are a lot like eachother only Slough has improved massively, still boring there tho, Swindon doesn’t seem to have changed at all in years
@@shaunaleigh3500 Hull seems to be much worse but Swindon is horrendous. It really staggers me how anyone can say it's great. The town centre has no vibrancy to it at all. Many shops have closed down and have not been replaced. No wonder so many people are leaving. Swindon is a decaying town and it's only going to get worse.
Swindon council is jest as bad as it ever was, don't have bad sight with a council that's unable to think about it or care, with traffic sign posts in the middle of pavement, jest look at the beginning if this video as it starts on Victoria hill.
This video is perfect! Really liked it! Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching!
Swindon wasn't always bad, it did turned into a right dump in the end. Glad to have escaped it.

@@citizenoftheninthdivision Always glad to hear when others have escaped it too👍🏻
@Nigel Day whats so bad about it, i might be moving there
Thanks for making and sharing. Always good to see home. Hope new shops come soon to brighten things up. A lot of shops lost.
Thanks for sharing. I lived in this town for 6 years. Good memories.

You fine now?
Old Town is still nice. The town centre is really grim now.

Used to live there before I moved to the smoke for uni and never left, I don't miss it that much.
It's a right sh*hole. Museum of computing is cool though.
Sensible.
Thank you for the upload. I lived in the city for around a year, kinda miss it now.
City?? Lol
It's not a city
@@Great_WesternTVFan Swindon is not a city?
@@SulaimanSujono no. It's just an urban town.
@@Great_WesternTVFan I'm not native English speaker nor really understands the difference. Care to explain?

Yeah, that's right. Fleet Street, with a couple of other streets nearby with London-ish names. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that! :)
Sorry for your loss, glad you some comfort from the video 👍
Swindon looks a bit run down now. Its sad, had a great year up there at Bath Road . See Froude and Hext model shop in Victoria Road
Thanks for uploading this. Right now The Parade & Fleming Way are a closed off mess!
I used to live here.
I am crying from the nostalgia
Me too
Dont bother. Save your tears.

The Old Town looks interesting
impressive that you walked through all the newly developed area's while managing to show 0 of it.
I was walking up/down bridge street earlier, was just as quiet :0
We all say it’s not the worst place to live, but let’s be honest it’s not exactly a nice place is it.
Wow its got a Post Office thats not in One Stop or WHSmiths.
Rather similar to when I went first in 1995.
Your defo goan
Good Lord, Swindon is a sh*thole! It's so dystopian.
Way too many bikes in pedestrian areas. Shocking!
So glad I’ll left Swindon it’s such a depressing town to live in
