In the dry season, the roads are dusty. The Irishman that lives in my town seems to like living in Laos. He has a farm business that grows bananas, mangos, avocadoes, and tea. This isnt poverty. Its stupidity, laziness, slobbery. In the old days there were poor people but they had self respect and pride and kept their environment clean and tidy.
I think in the good old days when women didn't work they spent an extra 35 hours a week sweeping and mopping their front door step and curtains for free nothing else to do. And slagging each other off. Rather than having a job and financial than having financial independence. In the good old days my mum worked in a bank in the office as women were not allowed to work on the counter of a bank. And she got paid a lot less than the men even when doing exactly the same thing. I think in the good old days when a lot of people were starving and had nothing at all? Don't make me laugh. I think turning your nose up at poor people shows you have no common sense at all.

Just a bit of tidying up and keeping gardens clean and tidy would make such a differance to this area, see some folk there keep gardens and homes tidy others just dont care.
We left an estate like this in Rugeley, Staffs, when we came to Australia in '57. This one has a lovely flow to it as well, curved roads, closes and green spaces. I'm sure (from the footage) that it has many social problems....unkempt gardens and homes. But the positive is that there are those trying hard to improve their community....hence the scaffolding to improve what are basic post war era homes, the installation of solar on some homes, and the attempts to create a garden. Gardens as seen in the post-card villages (whilst I'd loooove to get back to England to see them) take up large amounts of planning, effort, and (yes!!) loads of money to create and maintain. Thanks, Kevin, for showing the side of England that I (now 75) grew up with. Dad was a barman at the Pear Tree inn in Rugeley when he wasn't down a mine. Sadly that pub has gone. Sorry for the long reminisce but memories have flooded back, and I'm grateful.
Seeing the OUTWARD tidiness, peace and tranquility of the Cotswolds, then seeing OUTWORD depression? financial struggle? lack of services? of places like Penhill is a good juxtaposition. I don't believe every beautiful cottage is as happy and tranquil as it appears from the outside, just as every regular home isn't as unhappy and struggling as it may appear from the outside. I bet I could have phrased that better, however... I enjoyed this, Kevin. Thanks!
Nowt to do with poverty, downright laziness, get the bins round the back, get the mover and a broom, get furniture picked up. I could transform that property in a few hours. Lazy and filthy behaviour. Fly tipping all of it...disgusting.

That’s the real world. Over here in Canada, you can go into the rich peoples neighbourhoods and two blocks away. There’s a neighbourhood where you wouldn’t wanna walk through it at night.
Hello Good morning Mr. Kevin de Countryman, love watching Vloggers from all over UK Especially London, thanks for sharing this vid of Wiltshire, UK ...cant wait to go there 1 day, watching from🇨🇦🇨🇦
For a worst area that's pretty nice! There isn't much difference between this area and any of the idyllic villages or Bradford on Avon around 1960. There's lots of green trees and a few derelict homes and people having a conversation at the bus stop (because they have a bus service). There are lots of gardens that have gone to seed which is lovely for wildlife. I love allowing our beautiful native plants to just live among us without being killed off. The only thing this area needs is to have the small piles of rubbish bags removed, the rest of it is people living their lives without airs and graces just like the Wiltshire villages we see an old photos from 1900 to 1960. Thanks for posting
Honestly I can relate myself to this quite and peaceful neighbourhood. I hope residents have some parks in nearby to go to and sit and enjoy. It is wonderful to see the sky and not having seen tall buildings. I am sure there are lot of wonderful people live there. Good luck to all of them, and thank you for bring out such a beautif video.
In the 80s, we visited the University of Reading and then drove to Swindon for Very Cheap but well-cooked Fish and CHIPS It was a very cool and clean place. I don't know what happened these days. Europe has to stop depending on the US for its national issues.
Penhill. Swindon. I grew up in this place. It is a poor area, but it used to be clean and tidy in the 80s. I used to run around all these streets . Sadly, it's laziness now.
These are well built homes and the area looks nice, so sad to see many of them neglected. Just by cutting the lawn and removing the rubbish, would be a significant transformation.

So why is this area not kept up? Council gives a shit, people don’t care, no rubbish pickup service in the area?? Don’t have to be rich to keep up one’s property.😨
Kevin, I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for showing the other side. You will find the same contrast here in the US. I must admit though, the most beautiful places in the US pale compared to those in England. 🌷
I know the Penhill estate quite well, and your video made Penhill look quite leafy, especially the houses with nice gardens. There are folk who just don't care about their garden, and yes, there are the undesirables who bring the place down and make it dangerous to walk through, especially at night. Lot's of towns and cities up and down the country share Penhill's problems. Incidentally, Swindon is referred to as 'Wiltshire's back yard', by those living beyond the town.
We have the same post WW2 housing here in the eastern USA, which is depressing but just a lawn trimming would do wonders to control the overgrown look.
The whole world is in decline, mentally, spiritually and economically. It seems that after Covid, things have got a lot worse, in every area, corrupt politicians, more people coming in to the country, with less jobs to go around, companies down sizing on staff, production, inflation - food and housing, goods. There is no need to let yourself, your home or surroundings fall into decay, though sadly people do give up
I'm retired living in Texas where the temps are running 110 plus with 3 months without rain. I would be out there every day mowing with my electric mower. I love doing that and burning calories at the same time. The weather looks superb and lots of green grass. I'd toss out packets of wildflowers along the way and contact the local authorities to put out a dumpster so I could throw out the trash. Lots of missed opportunities in this video.
I was raised in Park North in the 1950’s and early 1960’s, a council estate not too far from Penhill. I wonder why Penhill can’t have a community association which would work with Swindon Borough Council to clear the worst of the rubbish in a number of skips? Getting rid of the discarded furniture and bush clearing the overgrowth will make this a much nicer area to live. You’ll always have antisocial elements on any large estate, but collectively people from Penhill are decent and hard working and could turn this around to everyone’s benefit.
There’s still nature in this video just like the Cotswolds and still receiving the same sunlight, and at least there’s also a community spirit which is also good. It’s not all bad.
Even a lot places in the Balkans are poor, at least you'll find some life. The houses with the letter box windows do not help, some only have 3 windows?? It must be so gloomy inside. But tbh there's worse places in the UK, at least there's some greenery here
Amazing video .I do really enjoy watching it . I`ve been in Oxford Kidlington last 2018 .And looking forward to come again .I ``m looking forward one day I can watch video from Beech Crescent Village . Thank you and God bless .
I live in Swindon and considering the amount of knife crime that happens, home break ins and mugging and people getting jumped. It’s not a good area and it’s normally not quiet. This was in the early morning and the smackheads aren’t up till 12 lol
Kevin. Thank you for the video. Here in the State of Louisiana we have "home owners association" if don't keep your front and back yard "beautiful" you receive a letter, they complain for everything... we don't mind at all, we like that way! nice to live this way and proud home owners. Cheers from USA.
For some people in a very wet country and grass grows very quickly. It needs mowing every week in the summer. Hard to keep up with it or pay for help if disabled etc.
It is literally a poor part of England. I’m sure there are areas in Canada that are as bad if not worse so don’t comment on one’s country when you have got problem in your own
Kalamazoo Michigan is wayyyyy worse. Lots of rubbish and people strung out on meth all over. Homeless people , houses with a lot of trash in the lawns. I would rather live in this neighborhood in this video. Wish I could get out of the USA !!!
So admire you for doing this. I live in an area just like this. Some people here have issues like money, addictions etc, but they are still great neighbours and will do absolutely anything for you. My sister lives in a posh area where neighbours are backbiting, bitchy and generally selfish. I still love to see the beautiful cotswold cottages but yes, not all dreamy in reality.
Spent many years living in Swindon Wiltshire and the Cotswold countryside very nice lots of good memories good times I still have a lot of family living there but things change not always for better. Now living in Arizona USA also family here but I miss a lot of the old life and weather! Also family of course!
As a Swindonian, its common knowledge for us that you avoid all areas of Swindon that begin with P! Those being Penhill, Park North, Park South and Pinehurst. I think for a lot of people here though they're a bit like Marmite. I've known people who've lived there and hated it and those who love it. Whilst these areas have definitely earned their reputations, I do think it's a bit unfair to imply no other areas of the town have the same problems. The area of West Swindon I live in used to be quite quiet but now has its own share of troubles. And the neighbouring area of Toothill has areas very similar to Penhill, both visually and in the levels of crime. I don't know how much truth is in it, but I did hear quite a while ago that crime increased in other areas of the town after the eviction and rehoming of those causing problems in Penhill Valley. It was said that crime there was so bad even the police wouldn't go in. That could very well be hearsay though! Plenty of that doing the rounds lol
There are a lot of estates like this in Britain. There is so much potential here. Green open spaces and decent houses which with some investment could be great places to live.
I love Swindon, the good and the bad, that town is amazing; a mixture of the very old and new . They say that Penhill is bad but I don't think so, It just has a unique character. 35:13 one of the many houses that I lived in many years ago, (white house) Brings so many fond memories. Thanks for this.
This looks like people in a state of depression. I don’t live in the wealthy side of town and I go past many neighborhood that are considered to be poor, but they all have one thing in common. They keep it clean and tidy, and they have pride in what they do have.

We have the same post WW2 housing here in the eastern USA, which is depressing but just a lawn trimming would do wonders to control the overgrown look.
cutting your grass and bushes and picking up your garbage makes all the difference to an area!! This is just like many areas but it is not maintained.

Cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẻ video này. Chúc bạn ngày mới vui vẻ may mắn và an lành 🇬🇧👋.
Can’t understand why people don’t pick up garbage
There’s still some very nice looking gardens and birds singing
Watching from Cape Town, SA. Wonderful video. Show us more it's refreshing.
Very peaceful
This would be considered a posh area in Balkan.
Even a lot places in the Balkans are poor, at least you'll find some life. The houses with the letter box windows do not help, some only have 3 windows?? It must be so gloomy inside.
But tbh there's worse places in the UK, at least there's some greenery here
Nature is so beautiful residents don't know how to keep the place clean.
Amazing video .I do really enjoy watching it . I`ve been in Oxford Kidlington last 2018 .And looking forward to come again .I ``m looking forward one day I can watch video from Beech Crescent Village . Thank you and God bless .
Their "worst" is better than most. If you are lucky enough to have a home the least you could do is keep it clean.
I live in Swindon and considering the amount of knife crime that happens, home break ins and mugging and people getting jumped. It’s not a good area and it’s normally not quiet. This was in the early morning and the smackheads aren’t up till 12 lol
É bom conhecer o lado b do paraiso!
Literally, no one is up and out. It's at least 7am there.
Kevin. Thank you for the video. Here in the State of Louisiana we have "home owners association" if don't keep your front and back yard "beautiful" you receive a letter, they complain for everything... we don't mind at all, we like that way! nice to live this way and proud home owners. Cheers from USA.
Beautiful little fox in the video.Lovely homes...just needs a bit of trash picked up here and there.
Why is poverty always associated with filth. I Grew up very poor but also very clean
Are people with houses and cars poor ?
For some people in a very wet country and grass grows very quickly. It needs mowing every week in the summer. Hard to keep up with it or pay for help if disabled etc.
Are there no bylaws? Here in Canada, city officials would clean up the yard then sock the owner with a massive bill.
It is literally a poor part of England. I’m sure there are areas in Canada that are as bad if not worse so don’t comment on one’s country when you have got problem in your own
@lifetruths if that's poor ,you should come to Detroit USA.
Kalamazoo Michigan is wayyyyy worse. Lots of rubbish and people strung out on meth all over. Homeless people , houses with a lot of trash in the lawns. I would rather live in this neighborhood in this video. Wish I could get out of the USA !!!
Кевин рано проснулся ради этой прогулки. Спасибо.
My birthplace. love it.
Reminds me of where Daisy and Onslow iived in Keeping up Appearaces.
Wow. You still have Mourning Doves! I miss them. Monsanto weed killers used by industrial farms killed them all here in the US.
It's actually a beautiful neighborhood. Just needs a little tlc.❤
When your worst is not bad to average to many.😂
totally...
Why is the trash around the council houses? Isn't there a maintenence person responsible for maintaining things?
Try walking through Kensington Ave Pensilvania, then you’ll know what depravity is😢
We haven't got to have alot but can still keep it clean and tidy. This happens in every estate. 😊
This looks like the neighborhood from Keeping Up Appearances!
Thank you so much for your sharing
I tnink it's a middle class neighborhood some keep up there yards and some don't have pride.Thank you for this vlog.😊
No sorry , you can be poor but clean. They have a roof over their head .Nice cars ! No excuse. Absolutely none.
It is called learned helplessness.
Oh boy? That looks like my apartment complex on move out day! 😮😮😮
This looks like the area where our Daisy and Onslow lived. IYKYK.
Добрый день, Кевин. Не вижу ничего страшного в этом видео. Всего- то, взять и убрать мусор. Спасибо . ❤

I have been assaulted multiple times in penhill. Just walking through. It has a bad name for a damn good reason.
Helo KEVIN Me from MALAYSIA TRUELY ASIA: GOOD JOB. WELL DONE , ENJOY SEEING IT:
This looks like people in a state of depression. I don’t live in the wealthy side of town and I go past many neighborhood that are considered to be poor, but they all have one thing in common. They keep it clean and tidy, and they have pride in what they do have.
What a shame.Lovely, tree lined streets.I can imagine who lives here!
wow!!! take care Kevin!!
