@@scenicrouteyt yes it was fantastic £1.50 for a pint of lager the summers were lovely and hot cairos came later in the 90s people injoyed them selfes more. £5.00 for a round of drinks. all the shops were decent to shop in all the pubs and nightclubs were booming cost of living was cheaper your money use to go further. the shops we had were more down to earth . debenhams c a nd a woolworths there was another store. the 80s were the best. plent yof work and plenty of factory work. and your money went further
We really do urgently need use it or lose it laws to get the landlords and asset management companies who own but won't part with all these abandoned buildings to sell-up or re-purpose them. Right now they can just sit of the land as it rises in value against inflation where it represents an untaxed passive income for them while doing nothing for the town. We can't just sit and expect landlords to act in the interests of society because they never have done and never will without being forced to by punitive legislation that's effectively policed.
Unfortunately as many things nowadays, it all just comes down to making money over anything else. I agree that buildings shouldn’t just sit empty but there’s also the issue that it’s increasingly harder for shops to manage to stay open unless they are big brands or betting shops / takeaways.
@@scenicrouteyt This is one reason why we have governments. Landlords and asset management companies may not have been directly responsible for the death of town centres, but they're preventing us from moving on through pure selfishness and greed. There's an acute housing shortage, yet buildings are allowed to stay empty. It shouldn't be difficult to resolve these two things with a little political will.
Well done for selecting all the shittiest bits, most of which are under reconstruction! You could have turned left at the bottom and, shown the railway village and, the GWR park.
i lived in swindon for 38 years the town centre back in the 80s was brilant now it is terrible swindon use to be a boom town in 1985 and it was a great place to live in now it is scuffy and not very good
Absolute dump of a town. All towns have good and bad of course. Swindon just has a huge majority of bad . Its a pound shop utopia of dodge the crackies and crys of have you got a pound from k cider drinkers . Park south and park north would both be better as actual parks . Coate water is not exactly stunning. Its a mish mash of run down, uninvested and uninviting places. One high point is the bus station where you can while the time away watching the antics of the crackies while waiting to tour the stunning Manchester road red light district. Its a third world town.
Thank you for watching.

What’s your favourite scenic route?
7:50. That tree at Costa fell down the other day.
The big one? Oh wow, bet that caused a mess
@@scenicrouteyt Yes fortunately it fell down during the night so no-one was hurt & no damage done to anything else.
@DarrenMartin-x9v that’s lucky I guess
Swindon, the Northern town, down South.
😂 good description
2:30 to 5:36 is a disgrace, it looks awful. Great footage.
Yeah a lot of the town has been renovated, I’m guessing this area will be next on the list.

They're making it into a "bus boulevard" to cope with all the people that want to see the wonderful sights in this video for themselves 🤣

I just chose a route around the main town centre.
I will probably go back and do the railway village as a separate video.
the primark is the BEST
I haven’t been, only ever been to the designer outlet in Swindon for shopping

Yeah definitely not at its former glory anymore unfortunately

Not a fan then I take it 😂
This was the first time I had visited the actual town. I’ve been to the designer outlet a couple of times as a child
Another town that does not look like England.
