The thing I love about guys who own shops like this is that when they are potentially buying something they find all the flaws with it and will talk it down like it is just a piece of junk ... Then , as soon as they get it .. they say WOW ! Look at this piece ! It's so rare and it's in pretty good shape for its age ! Then, on top of that ... if they like the item ALOT it just goes home with them .. so remember... when a shop owner tells you they are not a collector they just buy for resale .. that's not always true . I asked a shop owner one time what HE collects .. and he didn't want to tell me .. Even though I had already found out through someone else that he collected Dallas Cowboys memorabilia.. specifically from Aikman and Smith and of course anything earlier. But don't let shop owners fool you , if you bring them something they want ... they will pay for it ..
Shops have overhead. If it's an expensive item they can take less margin as the absolute dollar amount covers their overhead. Otherwise I wouldn't be surprised by only being able to pay you 20-50% of an item's retail value. If they pay even slightly below what you'd get for selling the item yourself, they'd go out of business.
The one thing I love is when people are in desperate need of cash and they obviously can’t borrow any more from anywhere else and they’re able to go to one shop and get an upfront price on whatever junk they drag to the counter and if they decide to sell or pawn and they get cash that day. Not to mention all the time they spend on deals they don’t make, and the fact that that have the money tied in on items that sit for a while before they do sell. Plus the overhead of a brick and mortar. And don’t forget no one wants to pay the asking price for these used items when it’s time to sell them, everyone wants a deal.
@@mraycgz Well , with all those woes , I guess it's a good thing they only pay 25% to 50% of what an item is worth .. except when they buy gold . I demand top dollar for gold no matter where I take it . Most of the time they are willing to pay more .. they just don't want everyone to know that . One time specifically, I went to a brand new shop that had only been open maybe a few months and I was selling not pawning , 6 ounces of scrap silver ... I swear , the dude offered me 4 bucks .. lmao , when I walked out laughing , and then later made an online review of the place detailing what he had offered me . Morning Pete, here in Glasgow we have a word that perfectly describes the people in your opening statement - Chancers ! The guy with the power tools at the beginning could have coarse taken it back to the shop he bought it in and got his money back IF, its not been used as it`ll still be on guarantee. Here, in Britain there`a a 14 day money back on every item sold, anywhere.

That works for Ebay, but Pete will only do brand new or used. That way he looks up the used price and gives them half of that. It doesn't pay to bring your stuff to a pawn shop. Any person could sell these items off facebook marketplace or craigslist for double what Pete gives them.
@@doiron12he's not a pawn shop, and he gives you cash instantly instead of you listing it online and possibly having to wait weeks or months until someone buys it.

It’s like eBay issues IRL. Ridiculous how often people will list items as “BRAND NEW” or “BNIB” (brand new in box) and then the item that shows up is clearly not brand new or sealed in the box. My personal favourite is Lego sets on eBay where people do this “BNIB no Minifigures”. Like if there are no minifigures 1. It’s not brand new 2. It’s definitely not sealed in the box cause how else can you get the minifigures out? I mean listing a Lego set as brand new no figures is like a car dealership listing a brand new 2020 Ferrari as brand new (no engine)!
The cat is so adorable. He’s just walking around the glass case checking out the inventory making sure everything’s there nice and neat how much you offer for the cat.😂
I wish people wouldn’t over explain things. I get that they feel low for selling/pawning but there doesn’t always have to be a bad reason to sell. Could be getting rid of things or maybe down on their luck but either way it’s nobodies business but theirs.
Pawning is bringing your stuff to a shop and they give you money and basically hold on to your item for a certain amount of time. You have to pay to get it back and if you don't they will put it on the shelves in their pawn shop and sell it.
How do these business make money? It obviously makes money otherwise they wouldn’t do it. But I cant see how you can make a living off buying items for a few hundred dollars and selling them for a tiny profit. By the time you pay rent on the building. Then pay staff, insurance plus all the other bills. I can’t see it being profitable. I know people are going to say. “He sells everything for double what he pays” But he isn’t selling it the same day as he is buying it. The shop is full of unwanted things that will probably never get sold, I run a small business and if I kept buying junk all day is be out of business pretty quick. How do these shops make money?

Needless to say , that shop didn't last long , thank goodness it didn't , because it was really a shit shop ran by amateurs.
@@robg7970 yeah gold and silver is a different game. Theres a definitive set value on those for buying and selling so you know what the margins are at all times and there’s never a lack of buyers when you want to sell.
I always say I don't care if you've worn it once or ten times, used is used. Brand new is brand new and still sealed.
Adrian put out a new sailing video yesterday...go check it out, lots of dolphins and high winds, not to mention the $5k repair bill.
"Brand Spanking New Watch, let me turn it on for you" how he know how SMH.Just as bad as scammers sometimes
consider that it comes with a box and booklet, just keep that in mind
@@trevor9066 🤣🤣
There's usually a power button on these things.
1st person was such a nice interaction. Two people just trying to help each other out and being fair
Honey is so comfy in her environment. I just love her!
Also the guy really needing money so badly he may go to
a pawn shop, yet…” I’ll go put that in the car and come back and look around a little” 🤷🏻♀️
I know, I thought that was funny he said that too.
Ain't nothing wrong with window shopping
Yeah I caught that. He was just trying to kiss ass with the owner lol
You should've kept watching the video after that point, or kept your brain turned on. 11:13 he comes right out and says "I'm hurting this week but in a couple weeks I'll be fine".
Listening and comprehending what's been said is obviously not your thing.
All these people who "caught that" but failed to keep listening over the next 10 seconds... lmao 🤣
The canadian dollar exchange was hilarious
Yea... He was "Thick as a Brick" as Jethro Tull once said. lol
Have gotten in a few discussions with people in the seasonal time changes here and the old are we gaining an hour or losing an hour... I'm guessing kindness is necessary. For me, it is do I gain an hours sleep or lose it.
My favourite thing that people say when selling their old stuff is, "It's top of the line!" uhhhhh no its not, your 10 year old Canon Rebel is not top of the line, it never was.
Morning Pete, here in Glasgow we have a word that perfectly describes the people in your opening statement - Chancers !
The guy with the power tools at the beginning could have coarse taken it back to the shop he bought it in and got his money back IF, its not been used as it`ll still be on guarantee. Here, in Britain there`a a 14 day money back on every item sold, anywhere.
your a legend pete love watching your show i deal with a few thrift shops in my area in montreal and like to buy storage lockers here and there for fun i mostly give everything to my driver cause i live in an apt and have no real room to turn it into a real biz but love the thrill of the hunt
* NEW means in the package with tags.
* LIKE NEW: unused but out of package
* Good: used once to a couple of times in great condition but a few flaws.
* Fair: used excessively with notable flaws, but still has more use to give.
First guy is a straight-up liar saying he don't want to go to a pawn shop but then he said the first one that he went to look like a dive😂 he definitely stole them tools because if its brand spanking new and he bought them he could just return them
Honey is such a sweet helper and even Ruby's skwalks are helpful!
How are Ruby’s squawks helpful?
Like the new intro and video format jumping from sales to info about items. 👍🏼💵🔮
"U got Gay Sailors & Dick Butkus on here" I think I pee'd myself & woke my son up laughing so hard when I 1st heard him say "Gay Sailors" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Best thing I heard all day 👌👍👏 . Then u pair him with Dick Butkus & u got a helluva tandem! 😆 😆
Peter has the patience and tolerance of a saint. So many idiots come in and just keep talking while he's trying to look up values.
When I next make a family vacation to Chicago I will shop at your store.
Scammers are everywhere!!!!!!! If they can't shut up they are not telling the truth.
Pete did you mean for that first couple seconds of footage to be in the video? Just wanted to ask in case you didn’t!
That’s why I don’t buy and buy things because especially when it’s expensive because when u don’t need it anymore and when u need the money then there’s no money anymore.Things is just things that’s how I look at it but money is the most important in the world
You have more things on your channel then in Pete's shop lol
All that stuff in NJ would be bought for 60$ all of it. Its crazy when ppl expect so much for not new stuff
1:03 you cant see the cat it is incognito lol
You're in illinois?
You have the patience of a saint. You never belittle people. God Bless you .
They talk tooo much.
Honey is checking out the inventory in the case.😻
Honey and ruby are alway the employees of the month in my book
Can anyone explain what’s the difference between pawning and what Pete does?
Pawning is bringing your stuff to a shop and they give you money and basically hold on to your item for a certain amount of time. You have to pay to get it back and if you don't they will put it on the shelves in their pawn shop and sell it.
How do these business make money?
It obviously makes money otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
But I cant see how you can make a living off buying items for a few hundred dollars and selling them for a tiny profit.
By the time you pay rent on the building. Then pay staff, insurance plus all the other bills.
I can’t see it being profitable.
I know people are going to say. “He sells everything for double what he pays”
But he isn’t selling it the same day as he is buying it. The shop is full of unwanted things that will probably never get sold,
I run a small business and if I kept buying junk all day is be out of business pretty quick.
How do these shops make money?
...quantity...
When he called it a burner phone 😂. Def a addict
I’m from the area sir. What shop is in Woodstock?
Crazy, I went to college with that dude, before he moved to the Chicago area. He's all about trying to make a deal, good stuff!
It's always a pleasure to see Honey. I'm not a cat person but I love her.
First guy seems like a really nice guy
If you exchange a 100 American dollarsfor $86 Canadian then the Canadian money is worth more
Doesn't Honey have her bunk beds anymore?
Honey asleep in the cabinet! I love her.
I find that happens to me as well. I've bought so many items people say are brand new from garage sales. I get home and it's not bad shape but not brand new!!
On you
Check before you bring it home genius
@@hyssean12 I don't really care or I wouldn't have bought it !! I still can make plenty on the flip. The point that was being made is "How many people say it's new when it's not" 🤣 GENIUS !!
The word is " like new condition" .
I like the bloke who walks into the back room, comes out a few minutes later with arms full of gear and proceeds to walk out of the store....
He’s an employee
the cat 😂😂😂😭 "listen I meow what im doing and I've had a long day"😂😂😂
I feel your pain Pete - keep your chin up my friend and thanks for the video
hey pete ! whats that website to look up ebay best offers ?
Love how you kept the first take in for us 😁👍
Never or lightly used, the moment you opened the box it us now used. Period.
Bro you should do more scammer videos those are the best lmao
That blue sweatshirt guy is shady af
We got the mini helmets signed by Gayle Sayers for $99 USD in Vegas. Plus all the photos we wanted. He was a great guy he will be missed.
That phone defiantly isn't free lol. It's used through Total Wireless, which TracPhone owns. It's around $80 or so now. I used the same one for a couple years.
So 80 new maybe 30 to 40 used so he gives the guy 15 to 20 for it.
@@jboy27 Yeah probably. I just wanted him to know I've never heard of any prepaid company giving phones away to sign up lol. That's like Verizon and Sprint that does that stuff once in a while.
@@SmithBeatZ1 Your correct but Pete will always downplay the value on anything you bring to him. Its a salesman trick to give him the upper hand in negotiations. Notice how he always says,"what are you looking to get out of this stuff". That's because he gains the upper hand in a negotiation when you throw out the first number. If its less that what he's thinking then he won. If its more then he counteroffers. You can't lose as long as you know what you can get from the product.
@@doiron12 oh of course.
Just wanted to tell you I like the format of your channel. I like the improvements in the opening sequence.
Why leave the certificate of authenticity in the car?!?!? lol
Dude is sweating, I think he’s looking for certain chemicals that he’s addicted to lol
As soon as the box is opened it’s used. No matter what it looks like.
For the guy with the football helmet, you said you could go to another website to see the actual offer that got accepted? How would I do that?
He is opening up his own shop 😅 he messed w ur head Pete... he got ya on that one.... the guy w the tools who had a yellow bag and said u were a fair guy
@Craigslist Hunter I know in this video you said like most other shops “you do not take dvds” but do you take the more rare dvds and vhs ?? Like horror or limited editions ?
I like the outtake in the beginning PERFECT!
Awesome looked up were ur located only a state or so away lol might have to take a trip
The guy with the Bears helmet sounded a lot like Chris Farley 😯
