So if it's never their product essentially, since you bear the full cost, didn't the buyer just destroy your property?
So if I bought a box of chocolates, ate the entire contents, and sent it back, no problem?
They will argue that it isn't the same product I received?
      Really.....you don't say.
You mean to say I altered the product. Go on.
I have seen precedent, all documented.
And I do believe he sent back the broken one they replaced.
Made in the same factory by the same people using the same machines, which put all tags in the same place and unless you two items in front of you, or incredible photographic memory, would never see the difference.
Just a small unique mark or two on those tags would do.

If you think you’re going to sell on eBay and not lose money occasionally you’re joking you really fooling yourself you need to be realistic grow up and be a businessman and woman and face the facts there’s just no two ways about it Ebay is not wrong you’re wrong sorry I am a fellow seller and I’m pretty picky but I faced the facts remember they’re giving you an option for 50% that’s almost your cost on an item and if it’s not then you’re not a good businessman end of story accept your money back to cover your cost and move on and start again you didn’t lose money LOL

Easy to say, Amazon is way worse, with their fees and customer protection, you could literally return a brick, and when seller would receive it and told Amazon that received a brick, the buyer would simply be able to state it is the seller trying to commit a fraud!
These 2 platforms are the most popular to sell items on the internet... and unfortunately a lot of people depend on it! Its not to stop selling on those, but to actually create a department who deals with internet fraud, scams right away! To report Cyber Crime does nothing! Many times I came across internet fraud, scams, violence and child abuse or pornography (apparently under ART protection), and reported it to a cyber crime (department/division)... Nothing happened and nothing will... Cyber crime is only fought if 1. Attacks or exposes government, military, and other secrets etc. (Example: Wikileaks) 2. If offers music, movie downloads (example: piratebay, kickass, etc.). Police, governments, military, banks and other billionaires' businesses are only interested in protecting their own "secrets and dirty work". Then you can hear it constantly in the news... But when you need a help, they simply ignore it, as it is LOW CRIME, but for a seller or buyer whoever is at loss it may cause a huge loss.

Actually - start selling on Ebay - get used to how things work, learn how to run your business. Open up a *GOOD* website (not some shoddy looking piece of crap), and start including it in all of your listings, emails, and receipts. After your first few months with the website, begin offering discounts if purchased at your website with a coupon code. Make sure that for the duration, you are keeping an email list - do NOT send them out any sales or marketing emails to piss them off. When you're ready to take a brief hit to your sales - make the switch. Close your Ebay store with an announcement. Send an email to everyone on the email ist announcing the same, include info on some items you're selling, along with at least one or two insanely great deals. Loss-leaders of some kind. Say goodbye to Ebay forever (except maybe becoming the occasional buyer for your own store :). Hire someone to do your email marketing. Usually very affordable, and worth its server-weight in gold.

This is absolutely morally criminal. If this is how eBay runs their business, there's absolutely no protection for sellers. And sellers of high-priced items costing thousands are especially at risk. If I have an item costing thousands and a buyer made a similar claim against me after returning the item damaged, I could very well be out thousands of dollars. I'm now serioiusly considering leaving this platform because eBay obviously has no regard for their sellers. Thank you, Nic, for sharing your experience.

They understand, they just don't care. It sounds like their hands are tied by some regulatory laws that forbid them from doing anything other than issuing a refund to the buyer. If that is the case, then Ebay should explicitly tell the seller in writing that this is what will happen if a buyer returns a damaged item within the return window. Then at least the seller will know that there is a chance of losing all their money on the transaction and they can make an informed decision about whether to go forward with the sale on Ebay or not. Also, Ebay needs to allow sellers to give buyers a rating and indicate whether these buyers are returning damaged items for a full refund so sellers could just block them buying anything from them.

This is why the first thing I leaned about selling on eBay was: never sell and item that you wouldn't otherwise just throw in the trash. You will never win as a seller, that is how eBay works. Start your own web-store or try and find a better platform. Until eBay starts losing sellers left and right they won't care.

As a seller and a buyer I do my best to describe an item as best as I can. If it's a vintage clothing piece, I research to see about the year and origin and so forth. I buy all kinds of things and for the most part (as long as it isn't coming from China) the item is as described when I receive it. China selling to people in any other country shouldn't be allowed because they never have anything as described! It's all crap! I bought a "ring" light from China not knowing it was coming from China it said it was coming from New Jersey and they described it as a 16 inch ring light, it took a long time for me to get it and it was barely 6 inches! I tried to return it and they gave me a partial return but I wanted to send it back to them so it sits on my desk in the box. I probably will end up selling it in a yard sale, won't try to sell it on ebay that's for sure! Oh not to mention on the ebay ad it showed a metal ring light I got a junk plastic one!

No, a mechanic could have broken it also. If you get into a car accident, you need to visit an auto body shop, not an auto mechanic. If the housing is bent, an auto mechanic would just try to jimmy the light into the housing by brute force. Now, I'm not saying the guy didn't try to fit it himself, he might have tried to, but I'm just saying that this kind of mistake can easily be made by a mechanic as well. Once a car gets into an accident, it may no longer have its original dimensions, one has to be extra careful because things that used to fit may not be able to fit anymore.

@@StephanBranczyk Playing devil's advocate here. I did not notice the crack in the video until pointed out. I can see a buyer that has not THOROUGHLY inspected it, not seeing it until taking it to a shop (hence the good, but hasty feedback). I have bought headlights similar to that one, and will say it would be EXTREMELY hard to crack one like that during installation, even if installed by a chimpanzee. The back molded portions of those lights are VERY structurally sound. I would also point out that many people buy headlights not to replace ones damaged in a accident, but merely because todays plastic headlights look like cloudy sh*t after a few years, and nothing makes a car look nicer than a new set of fresh, clear headlights. Nobody here has even questioned that the light may have been damaged in transit? The ones I have purchased ( I have purchased several sets) came packed in molded styrfoam to prevent damage. This one was in bubble wrap. I have personally seen drivers STAND on one box to reach another in their truck. I have also seen them pull boxes out to get to another...and THROW them back into the truck. Here in the states, delivery services are well known for mangling packages or damaging the contents.

Here a long story short about my sale on eBay: I've sold an expensive piece of art, $4k. The buyer wanted to return it for whatever reason, so he chose to claim "it was not described correctly". I disagreed as it was described in detail in the originall, but to no avail, I had to accept the return. In the end I've accept the return as the item does have a personal value to me and I was fine not to sell it after all. So when I've receive the art piece back the buyer didn't bother using the custom protective packaging I've created and it was badly damaged making it pretty much valueless. Guess what? I fought to the end and still I had to give him FULL REFUND and I lost $200 in shipping costs. F*ck eBay.

I have been an EBay reseller now for 21 years and thank God I have never been scammed like this except for 2 times over nickel/dime items that weren't worth fussing about. EBay in general is so full of crap that some days I can hardly stand dealing with them! I miss the days when Meg W. was in-charge she had a pretty good handle on things! It has largely been a race-to-the-bottom since she left the company! Hopefully EBay will pay attention to this video and make some changes! Thanks Again :-) Best Wishes from across the pond :-)

I hate Ebay and will never sell anything on there again. When I had my paintings up for auction I sold eleven of them and of course was charged a hefty fee for the sale. Fine. I understand that.
About a month or so later I decided to add more paintings and even opened a store front. I wasn't getting any bids on anything so I closed the store and removed my listings.
About a month or so later I started receiving bills from Ebay. I had no idea what this was all about so I called. Of course there's no way to email Ebay and trying to get in touch with customer service is a nightmare but I finally got someone on the phone. The woman had such a thick Asian accent I could hardly understand what she was saying and by the time we hung up I had a massive headache.
Basically it was, "blah blah blah fee blah blah blah and more blah. I explained that I had already paid the fee for the big sale but apparently the fees continue on until you want to scream.
    I paid the damned fee.
A month later I received ANOTHER fee!! I went through the same thing on the phone and it was basically the lady reading things from Ebay's website. She couldn't explain to me why I was being charged yet again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I paid THAT fee too. Not a lot but enough that ticked me off.
Next month, another fee. This crap was getting out of hand. Customer service is no service whatsoever. I finally got fed up and asked her if she could waive the fee and she said she could waive half of it. Okay fine. I paid the other half.
Another month comes and ANOTHER fee. This time for $2.52. I call. What the hell is THIS for?
The fee is for closing my store. Huh?????
So I was charged of course for my sale, charged for something I didn't understand, charged again for some other crap and charged for closing my store. Ebay can kiss my ass.
Honestly I don't know how anyone makes any money on there. Etsy is the same way. A fee for this, a fee for that, fee fee fi fo fum. All of you can kiss my bum.

You guessed it, listed stayed up for 4 more days and ended with high bid. I was fuming. Oh I even put a listing up on day 4 to try and warn buyers, not much else I could do. But Hey atleast ebay and PP get there cut from the scam listing so there good. OH the scammer also had 2nd high value bike part listed which also sold for alot of money. I done that with eBay about 8 years ago. It was a $300 speaker box for a 2002-UP Dodge truck. Customer messaged about not fitting in is 2001. Told him its not listed for 2001. He replies its only 1 year difference. I told him no, totally different trucks. He then asks for a prepaid return label. Told him its not our mistake and he has to pay for shipping. He then opens a significantly not as described dispute. I copied eBay in on the messages of the customer admitting he ordered the wrong year and they obviously didn't care as they sided with the customer and gave him a full refund. I then had to file for buyer protection. I ended up winning the buyer protection case. BUT, along with that email were more emails informing me that ALL of my open listings had been removed and my qty of listings allowed was changed to ZERO. I called seller support and asked what was going on? They said that all of my listings were big ticket items "$200-$400" and that I now have a history of not being willing to work with customers and Ebay is not willing to risk doing business with me in the future. $400k a year in sales, 99.6% positive and they dump me over 1 item because they had to eat the loss.

I’m fuming just watching that guys and it’s not even my item! • @kits411UK
      @kits411UK 4 роки тому

I disagree completely with what eBay has said and the buyer should have at least sent something back in writing informing Nic of the reasons behind the return (particularly if it was outside the 14 day returns policy). The trouble with doing what you suggest is if the buyer can prove they sent back the item via images (as I always do when returning an item), a seller saying they returned a brick could be considered fraudulent on the part of the seller giving a false declaration.
You can try it of course but be prepared to accept any consequences, that could include a permanent ban to the account you used in conjunction with any long standing reputation you have gained through (possibly) years of intensive labour and usually love. You need to as an individual weigh up what is worth more; the goods that have been returned compared with the possible loss of not only positive reputation gained but the account associated with it as well when making that choice.
TLDR: Be cautious when considering shady tactics of your own in response to a buyer's. You may be the one who ends up getting burned.

It happens more times than you can imagine. They are complicit in allowing it. I steer everyone away from selling on eBay now, OR the only way to sell is to only sell items as cash on collection. The buyer can then inspect the item before they hand cash over, and it is no different to selling anywhere else at that point. The buyer has no protection (down to paying by cash, do not let them collect after paying by Paypal!).

It's very simple for Ebay to solve this issue:
    1) Keep track of the number of purchases divided by the number of claims/returns a buyer makes.
    2) Allow sellers to filter out buyers who have too low a rating
    3) Buyers with a low rating won't see many listings on the platform since they will be blocked from buying by the sellers themselves
    4) Those bad buyers will leave the platform

It’s always been this way with eBay. Sellers get zero protection. In the US the term they use when a seller complains is “it’s the cost of doing business.”
Meantime, Amazon makes eBay look like choir boys. With an Amazon return rate of 20/30% I’ve had them refund the buyer when they called to complain about a product, without even requiring them to return it to me.
The rep said, we’ll your free to send them a return shipping label (that I’d pay for). I told him, why, why would they be motivated to send it back to me?
They’ve lied and then have been refunded 100%, and got to keep a free item!

I had exactly the same problem. Sold a £400 CCTV system. Had video evidence of me repacking the system in its original box. Had a photo of the item being delivered undamaged by the courier. A few weeks after, the buyer turned around and wanted a refund as items were missing as the item was "damaged in transit". Ebay gave full refund without even speaking to me first, as the guy had just returned the item to me without asking first. He returned it without half of the parts. Ebay said it wasnt thier problem, he had claimed that the item was missing parts in his return, and just returned it. That was all they were interested in. Had he sent the item back, and once they had confirmation from his courier that it had arrived back with me, they didnt care if parts that were there when it was sent were missing. All my evidence was thrown out the window.
I fortunately didnt end up paying him for the return, but only because I decided to cut my losses with ebay, closed my account and cancelled all direct debits with ebay, paypal etc. Made sure the bank account was closed down before they coul make any claim. I rang ebay and told them what I had done, and they werent happy. They tried to argue that I couldnt do it, but I argued that they also couldnt just ignore clear evidence of fraud by the buyer, and refund based off lies from the buyer, or even issue a refund without me accepting the return first. It's been 10 years, and ebay hasnt chased for the money. I think they kinda realised they were in wrong and gave up.
I hav eopened a new ebay account, but refuse to sell anything on there personally. On the rare occassion that I've sold things on our work ccount, I've photographed and made video's showing condition of the item as it is being packaged and even as it is handed to the courier. The couriers are pretty good at taking photo's on delivery, so it's usually easy to prove when your in right wen it comes to delivery damage.

The fundamental issue is that EBay don't differentiate between "FAULTY " & "DAMAGED" goods. They conveniently just refer to Faulty items which puts the onus of responsibility onto the seller. Unfortunately there are individuals in society who just abuse their rights as buyers. It's not just EBay. I have known people buy stuff from Amazon & use it for a couple of weeks and then return it & get full refunds !. It becomes a game to them to see how far they can push the rules and still get away with it.
