Video Description:
When you have a gate and want to install a mechanical keyless gate lock, you can run into all kinds of problems.
The easiest-to-use gate locks, those using hardware like on your house, and most keyless gate locks will require you modify your gate by installing a gate box the will need to be welded to the gate to support whatever type of gate lock you want to install. This is because the gate posts aren't wide enough to support the locks that are available on the market.
You also can't use most electronic keyless gate locks, because residential electronic locks are designed to be waterproof on only one side of the lock. This makes mechanical keyless gate locks the way to go.
But, this little, mechanical keyless lock can be easily installed as a DIY keyless gate lock. Made by Lockey it will allow you to easily modify the gate and enter by pressing the gate code.
This is not a heavy-duty lock. It's targeted application is to secure cabinets. We've found it work great for keyless entry on house side gates, but we would not recommend it when a high-level of security it needed. On a home if someone really wants in, they can just jump the gate, so high-security locks aren't really practical. That makes this lock perfect for a DIY keyless gate lock installation so long as you don't require a self latching gate lock.

this is nice , you showed your video very detail and easy to see how it works
Thanks for your video
You are welcome!
Thanks for the vid!
You bet!
I am fixing to install one, thanks for the how to video
No problem 👍. Great, simple, solution.
Thanks Mate
Nice to see your installer is wearing a mask & gloves too. Good Safety procedure for your customers.
Thanks!

Great lock for that application. The only concern is the strength of that one inch wood that got weakened by the two holes. It might make sense to have an steal plate sandwiched between the lock. Just a thought.
The post we drilled through is metal but your point is still valid. Gate locks of this type basically keep honest people honest. Remove temptation. If someone really wants in, they would just jump the fence. Most block fences here are, after all, only 5 fee tall.
Thanks for the comment!
ACME Locksmith you're absolutely correct, most locks, doors, gates, etc. are to keep the honest people out. A criminal will stop at nothing if they want to gain access.
The best thing about this setup is if you get locked out you can either lift the gate off the hinges or use a wrench to reopen the gap.
Idk what gates you install but the ones I do you can't just lift the gate off the hinges and I always set my hinge side tight but not too tight to bind the hinges so you couldn't just pry it over to open it
I like the video, not the Arizona's weather.
How do you switch it from a latch to a lock on an iron gate? I live in Las Vegas.
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Could you recommend a lockbox of some type to keep my vaulbles in and keep prying hands out? Something that will make it hard for someone to open or just carry it away. Thanks, my friend.
I appreciate the feedback! If you're putting any kind of valuables in a safe, you'd need something more secure than a lock box. At the smaller end, you're basically keeping prying eyes out with most safes. Maybe our article on how to choose a safe will help. It's here: www.acmelocksmith.com/buy-safes-online/find-the-right-safe/
Get the new eufy package box for delieveries.
My only question is when it's locked from outside can it be opened from inside?
Yes.
Great video- thank you! Now . . . What is on the market that allows me to unlock the gate via my phone to allow yard maintenance access while I'm at work?
Unfortunately, nothing. www.acmelocksmith.com/blog/how-to-lock-outdoor-gates-gate-lock-options/#smart-lock-gate-options
You can install an intercom with wifi and camera and a electric lock at your gate that you can activate from your phone through your intercom. You can also have a screen inside your house and open from there too
Do you do a sumo lockey installation videi?
Sorry. I don't
Great video but what is stopping the gate in the closed position? I wish you showed whatever I can hear latching before the lock is engaged. Is that a magnet or something?
It's shown at 6:56. We are just latching this behind the existing gate post. But there's also a strike if that's not doable.
I don't see black available?
I have gates on order that will have the lock boxes pre installed. Do you have a recommendation for mechanical lock for them? There will be 3 gates, walkthrough and RV with walkthrough. Appreciate your response.
By mechanical, you mean a mechanical keyless? Mechanical keyless would require a gate box that matches the keyless lock you're installing.
Can this be installed on an RV gate? Also, where can you purchase the optional handle? Thanks!
It would be difficult to use in a large swing rv gate. To much play to get the latch to line up.
Does the C120 have an Extension Kit (thick door kit) for doors up to 5″ ?
Not that I am aware of. But if you have 5" of space you have lots of other options.
Great video, but looking for a "smart lock" for our outdoor gate - must be weatherproof. Do you know of such a lock? Something that can be controlled via app, etc.... Thank you!!
I know of only one. And I've never tested it. Never tried it. Cannot attest to how good it is. It's on our website in our article on gate locking options. This link will take you to the keyless section.

Thank you again!!
Is a lock like that available with the keypad on both sides?
Not this one. There are mechanical locks that do, but you need at least a 1.5" thick gate post to install them on or a lock box installed. Both options are considerable more expensive though.

where can I buy this one? I went on line to find and can't find this specific one?
It's on Amazon under our recommended products. www.amazon.com/shop/acmelocksmith?listId=102CSQYRSMV86
Please tell me the model # of that lock. I would like to order it but can't find it. Thank you!
Link is in video description 👍
This is rain proof front and back and does not need battery right?
Correct, it is a mechanical lock, no electronics.
If I’m using this for Amazon drivers and they’re going to deliver a package to my front door.. after putting the code the first time to open the gate, is there an amount of time they have till they need to put the code back in to lock the gate behind them? I’m trying to decide on getting the lever or this lock.
This is a mechanical lock. The code stays the same until manually changed.
Have you thought about the garage for Amazon packages? The Chamberlain garage door monitor integrates with amazon. And has a camera. So it records the Amazon driver dropping off the package and closing the door and text you a copy of the video as soon as it's done.

@@LocksmithRecommended yea this would be for the front gate that’s exposed to the elements. So I’m not sure which option is best for that. Any help would be great for an outside gate
@@Marco-sp2li Unfortunately, smart locks are not weather resistant on both sides. Because it's always assumed that that one side will be inside of the house. So an affordable option that you can control from your phone isn't really available.
@@LocksmithRecommended which one do you recommend for a key/code entry lock for a gate then?
Great video. How will I order it.?
You can get from our Amazon recommended product list. www.amazon.com/shop/acmelocksmith
Do you know the major differences between the C120, M220, and 2200? They all seem quite similar.
c120 is the smallest and lightest duty. It's the only one that will fit on a post like this.
@@LocksmithRecommended Thanks!
Is this suitable for no Northern climate such a MN?
It's mechanical. No electronics.
I liked the way you installed the lock, but I didn't like the way you were able to move the gate to the right to get rid of the gap. Defeats the purpose of putting a lock. Those door hinges belong inside the fence and/or weld a plate to cover the gap.
Gate locks of this type basically keep honest people honest. Remove temptation. If someone really wants in, they would just jump the fence. Most block fences here are, after all, only 5 fee tall.
Many homes in AZ spot weld that adjustment bolts, to prevent what you are talking about, but this home owner didn't want to do that.
Thanks for the comment!
@@LocksmithRecommended 👍😀
Wow, I’m the first to comment!
Yes you are! Thanks. Just posted live this morning. Thanks for watching!
Hi sir, Where can i buy this lock and what is this lock call ? thanks
The gate lock installed in this video, the Lockey C120 mechanical keyless lock. You can see it on our Amazon Storefront.
www.amazon.com/shop/acmelocksmith?listId=102CSQYRSMV86
Why the heck can't they put the combination on both sides so I can lock/unlock from the inside! So frustrating.
There are other mechanical locks that do that, just none that wouldn't require significant gate modification on a gate like the one in this video. Here's our article.

@@LocksmithRecommended Thanks Well, I also read that you can exit with the lock locked anyway.
