Viewed your video yesterday after a 2003 tracter max was dropped off by a customer. Not much of a shop or tools to work with, but he wanted my rates not the dealers. I am certified and came from a Honda atv dealer, not tons of bombardier experience. This video started me to diagnosing the bike in under an hour ( mostly panel removal and accessing the plugs. Diagnosed short inside mpem with ohm test. Can't get my hands on one for less than $1500 here. Decided to continue and only option was to tear in and see what I could do. Basically told the customer the bike isn't worth it, but I'll mess about. Now the next morning, mpem is disected, found a common diode failure, short to ground. Currently hoping it's the only failure and I can find a diode timely. Will update. Thanks for the old video it started hours of web research and learned basics of circuit boards overnight. Never thought I'd be cutting a module apart to hack it back to working. Rare part you've got your hands on.
Not knowing a ton about diodes, I've scrapped the old Toyota sienna in my backyard and found a few modules, one containing a very similar diode to the mr2535l failed in the mpem. Sr4416, not exact parameters, but I couldn't help but spend 2 hours painstakingly removing both diodes and soldered the sr4416 into the mpem. 420'd myself to confidence to take the battery off monte and install it on the bike along with the mpem. Lights camera action so far. No signs of heat or issues yet, mpem components are still open and felt OK to the touch.. now going to order some proper diodes. Advise the customer to run with the 15 amp fuse I installed. Going to silicone the mpem back into its casing. Hopefully it lasts for him, haven't told the customer yet, he's under the impression it's scrap, it's a near mint 03 traxtermax, 900 miles or km can't remember. Really trying to gather the confidence to post some of it to UA-cam, however my video documenting the process wasn't detailed, I did take some for reference. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction this video is where I started when the unit was dropped off yesterday.
Your talent is admired my friend! I have just recently found myself exposing boards and replacing failed components to help customers myself. Its a labor of love for sure, and I get to learn more. As well as help the customer, I am sure yours is happy! Keep up the amazing work. Thank you for watching and god bless
Your a really good teacher mate I can learn from you. I have the same bike want to know if it is full time 4wd? The rear is axle diff set up and can’t spin wheels very well so that is a problem. It also back fires coming down from high revs in third so I need to fix it. Any ideas?
Man you ripper this guy off. It should have taken max 4 hrs done. This has been a know issue for last 15 years . Easy fix and just need to remove mepem.
Does this cause loss of spark? Just picked one of these up yesterday for $400 (similar story, allegedly sat for 10 years before I bought it) lights and everything comes one and has good spark to both spark plugs but I can only get it to turn over by jumping the solenoid (still haven’t got it started, haven’t even put gas in it yet) the handlebar control seems to not do anything and seems like none of the buttons work. None of the fuses are blown and has good spark, should I replace the handle bar controls or could the MPEM be the issue?
i am installing a new GEAR BOX POSITIONING SENSOR on my 2004 john deere buck 500. Do i need to calibrate that ,as i am hoping not cause i can not find a diagnostic jumper anywhere>Thank you!
I have a 2004 and brought it to Costa Rica with me. Has worked great for years and now the auto shifter won't work and all the lights on the dash blink. Is this shifter electric pulse or by oil pressure?
Anyone have the workshop manual for this exact atc? my father in law has one and i'm doing a DIY ecu and need to know how the crank angle sensing works ... or if someone ha more information on this.
Had the same problem with my Seadoo jetski mpem and I had to depott the rear of my mpem and replace and solder on the m2535 diode as it got blown by a failed voltage regulator and a flooded vts motor ! Hardest bit was depotting the mpem....... if the mpem is blowing fuses as soon as you turn the ignition on then you can bet its the m2535 diode that's shorted
Your comment has motivated me to dig deeper into circuit diagnostics and repair. I owe you a debt of gratitude brother. God bless and thank you again!!!
@@FinalStopMobileAutoTech it's a 5 bucks repair...... I had to do it twice as I didn't realise that there's always a reason why it was happening...... route and find !!! Glad to help you out buddy and if u need any help just let me know
I've heard when you try and bosst these or hook a charger up like that you can fry the computer. Some old Honda quads would do this to the cdi I believe. It happened to me once and then I read about it in the Honda manual after the fact.
Just read in the manual "Taxter Series Only" never use a battery charger to temporarily replace the battery,as it may cause the MPEM to work erratically or not to work at all"... Maybe it had other issues and you fried the MPEM by hooking the booster to it?
The machine came to me with the same symptoms I diagnosed in the video. Kinda sucky you had that experience with boosting an old honda and frying the computer!! I strongly stand by my methods due to the fact they have been working for me for so long but to each his own! I have personally NEVER had any problems with hooking a jumper box to an ATV or motorcycle or anything as long as the ignition and all switches were OFF when i hooked it up! I would NOT suggest hooking a charger up to an ATV while the battery is connected to the bike, or jump-starting with another ATV or car! Thanks for watching and commenting! i really appreciate it!
@Seth'sChopShop Thanks for watching! BTW if you recall in the video, The current from the MPEM power feed was drawing 40+ amps. That is much higher then 15 AMP's or even 20 AMP's So, In this case I felt assured that permitting an additional 5 AMPS would NOT cause unnecessary harm. And I am glad you got something out of what I said and my technique as well.
yes. I drained the Oil completely , no water or signs of Antifreeze at that Time, Now the Oil is a Froth-ee , Greenish Color ? Cant tell how much Antifreeze the Resevore has Dropped , not much . Blown Head Gasket Problem ? Temp Changes lately the reason , in Ky -Tenn Area ?
had a 2000 model, stator went bad, electric shift started acting up, it had a short and was blowing fuses, all within 4 months of having it. Good quad but not the best electronics in my experience

I brouth it to the dealer and the dianostic said the computer as well. Gota find a freakin computet now. Nice video.

I can’t fully understand your comment. From what I can make out you assume I did this in four hours...
Where can I buy a mpem?

Hello i got also the same issue of my bombardier... where you buy the new CDI (Computer) ???.. I really need a new one. Thank you.

Anyone know of a replacement for the external coil part # 710000317? Or if it can be bypassed/ repaired or how to make my own.

I have antifreeze in my oil ? I just changed the oil about 15 hours of use ago. no oil then ? Thanks David
Did you have no oil in the machine when you changed it? how much antifreeze is in your oil?
I am in New jersey. It sounds like a head gasket problem, I would send head and cylinder to machinist to have them checked for cracks or warping.
To be honest, yiu seem to know what yiue doing ....but my gawdddddd
You lost me.

oh and my issue was the same with the MPEM. except the fuse popped when making a decently hard right turn
Currently looking for a 2001 mpem if anybody has one!!! Or knows where to get one please message me
