The SPACE that he left for the bass solo, and the bits of rhythmic vocabulary for the soloist to play off of, was just fanTAStic. WHEW.

I don't know anything about drumming, but I really enjoy listening to you and Larnell describe your process. Thanks!

I played both Tenor and Alto Sax, so when I hear it in a song my ear straight gravitates to it and follows it, and I mentally start figuring out the key, what notes and going from there. I never really mastered playing by ear though let alone figuring out what my part would be from the parts around me... It really blows my mind that anyone is capable of jumping into a song, and only having the reference of the rest of the parts actually figuring out the part they are playing and doing it with confidence, and style.

Mr. Lewis is a beast. I'd like to see Aron from Dirty Loops do this. As someone who is not a musician and knows nothing about anything technical when it comes to music, I appreciate the way you explain things and break them down.

I definitely heard Spain in this. In certain sections I was hoping he’d play on the rims with his sticks like he did in Lingus. I enjoyed your reaction immensely , Jarvis.

It was great to see a professional drummer such as yourself react to this interpretation from Larnell Lewis! I also loved how he picked up playing Enter Sandman from Metallica after hearing it once! Believable not his kind of music as he pointed out, but he of course killed it. Worth a watch as well! Thank you for the video, Jarvis!

Apparently he grew up in a gospel/church religious environment and it’s absolutely true he hadn’t heard Enter Sandman before.
He was offered a job touring with Drake a few years back and he apparently took the job. When he went over the material though he turned the job down. Why? Because the lyrical content was apparently against his morality.
Dude seems so down to earth!

    And yes...pun intended.

Yep agree with the3rddecline below...you do a great job breaking it down. I Like that, keep it up. Lewis doesn't even look like he's working hard man!! Request ..PTX "New rules x Are you that somebody." Bass and percussion sections are crazy.

Have you ever watched Avery Drummer on youtube. Ive been watching him for years. Boys been playing since he could hold sticks. If you havent seen him go back and react to some of his younger stuff like when he could barely reach the pedals lol. Hes awesome.
