      I’m pretty sure, knowing nothing about Larnel’s past, he has the tiger woods type amount of training. Meaning he has probably already put more hours into learning/practice in his first 8 years alive than most adults have in their life.

    I think the beauty of Larnell’s pocket is the sheer range of his dynamics, most of the kit stays so quiet and he just hits those accent beats so heavy. Wish more drummers could do this.

    • @wibblewobble1934
      @wibblewobble1934 Рік тому

      He's a true musician at heart that respects ALL the instruments and allows to give them space when needed, always thinking of every aspect of the piece as a whole. But yeah, his dynamic range is just stupid good. A true god of drums.

    • @findtheearth
      @findtheearth 4 роки тому +18

      I think it comes down to the tone of the music. This type of fusion is just so fun! Hard not to smile. I generally prefer listening to metal, but it's usually more serious, even when it's more on the bombastic side it's not as "fun".

    • @FanaticDrummer
      @FanaticDrummer 4 роки тому +4

      findtheearth Its also his own preference of music so he enjoys the style more

    • @browncoat697
      @browncoat697 4 роки тому +2

      @@findtheearth Yeah, as someone whose two favorite genres are jazz and metal, and is usually more of a metalhead, I'm going to say that jazz is way more likely to make you just grin ear to ear. It's just more fun. Metal is just more serious, even for the bands that are smart enough not to take themselves too seriously (e.g., Anthrax).

    • @johnathanreyes118
      @johnathanreyes118 4 роки тому

      Rip Steakface well it’s not only that it’s serious is that it doesn’t usually play with time signatures as much as this type of music does at least when being played live

I've been a metal/hardcore punk guy all the way through my teens, but as I expanded my drumming vocabulary and my musical knowledge I've reached a point where almost no metal music interests me. The only heavy bands that I can listen to lately are The Dillinger Escape Plan, Car Bomb, Animals As Leaders and a few others when I'm in that specific mood, but not any thrash or braindead stuff like that. Great one from my new favorite Larnell Lewis. For a similar Jazz or Fusion genre check out Benny Greb doing Next Question.

    What I saw I think is illegal in 20 states. It is that great! I'll never listen to music the same way again, I can't unhear that MASTERPIECE.

    So I have recently discovered you during this quarantine and have had a blast with your videos. As a death metal musician, but of course love all music, thank you for keeping an open mind and focusing on the creativity and talent instead. You're awesome!

    Larnell is a beast and no offence to him he deserves all the praise, but Pridgen absolutely KILLED in this zildjian video series. Absolutely murdered it

    Matt Greiner was just on Zildjian and they played some type of Jazzcore music.
    Should give that a listen, it was great.
    He's an amazing metal drummer.

    Listen to Larnell on Snarky Puppy’s track “What About Me” on the album ‘We Like It Here’... and remember he learned the tune ON THE PLANE

    • @thage7729
      @thage7729 3 роки тому

      @@Aethenthebored After it became clear Snarky Puppy’s drummer from previous albums wouldn’t be on the recording because if ‘passport problems’, M. League connected with Larnell and sent him a midi file of what had thus far been composed for the album “We Like It Here”. Larnell familiarized himself with said midi file on the plane ride over. Apparently there was a further delay with the driver Snarky Puppy sent to meet him at the airport which made him even later to the gig, but that’s another story. Keep all this in mind when you listen to (and watch) that album... that’s how crazy talented Mr. Lewis really is.
