My older brother went high school with Larnell. Hard to believe but he was this good back then too...I swear he came out of the womb a drum-god already.
I’m pretty sure, knowing nothing about Larnel’s past, he has the tiger woods type amount of training. Meaning he has probably already put more hours into learning/practice in his first 8 years alive than most adults have in their life.
Oddly enough metal, funk, jazz, etc they're all so different but has some similarities as well which is why I think we love it all. Nice to have a mix though.
I think the beauty of Larnell’s pocket is the sheer range of his dynamics, most of the kit stays so quiet and he just hits those accent beats so heavy. Wish more drummers could do this.
He's a true musician at heart that respects ALL the instruments and allows to give them space when needed, always thinking of every aspect of the piece as a whole. But yeah, his dynamic range is just stupid good. A true god of drums.
I think it comes down to the tone of the music. This type of fusion is just so fun! Hard not to smile. I generally prefer listening to metal, but it's usually more serious, even when it's more on the bombastic side it's not as "fun".
@@findtheearth Yeah, as someone whose two favorite genres are jazz and metal, and is usually more of a metalhead, I'm going to say that jazz is way more likely to make you just grin ear to ear. It's just more fun. Metal is just more serious, even for the bands that are smart enough not to take themselves too seriously (e.g., Anthrax).

Yes PLEASE. I can't find a single video of someone reacting to that banger of a song, especially Larnell's solo. I just wanna see someone's mind blown face when they hear it 😅

Larnell is NUTS! he's a prof at Humber college here in Canada, Toronto to be specific. he is also a straight up humble nice human.... had to audition in front of him like 5 years back and i was extremely nervous because of how into Snarky Puppy I was at the time. The entire Zildjian live series is epic. Its amazing they granted us inside these jam sessions. Incredibly written and composed pieces by amazing drummers as well as the other musicians! Really just a treat to witness all this greatness unfold with each video theyve uploaded.
Larnell is an immensely talented beast of a player, and also one of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met. He did a drum clinic in Montreal during the Montreal Jazz festival, and he brings so much heart and passion to his playing and teaching, and just being a good person. Unrelated: tell me how come that bass player looks like Snoop in disguise lol
I had the fortune to see Larnell play at Humber college on the regular. Anything recitals he played on had the whole music dept watching with jaws dropped.
