One of the best slap Bass guitar players ever!!!
crazy part is that is Mark King playing that bass like that!! dude the lead singer nd the damn bass guitarist
One of the best songs of my time line. We are LEGENDARY GEN X
We just going to ignore thats possibly the BEST bassline from the entire 80's?
LOL! It's a great bass line, but all of Mark King's bass lines are great. Many I like more than this song.
It’s up there....
John Taylor Rio might top this?
No way!!, quality music!!
Mark King, great bassist, but surely, Duran Duran, RIo, John Taylor takes that title?
Their singer after has a super unique voice, it’s British and soulful at the same time. Their song “Leaving Me Now” is awesome too.
She's feeling it!! I like her!!
I can’t believe this reaction was today. It was one of my mom’s favorite songs. She died from cancer on this day 4 years ago. Another reactor did “Gimme Shelter” today, again one of her favorites. Blown away! Coincidence? Probably, don’t care. Miss her more than anything, a reminder of how much music can trigger memories. Thank you.
Sorry for you're loss. My mother passed in 2020. Anyway top comment.
I think it's her way of saying hello to you 😉 All my condolences though.🌸
Your mama is sending her love…..
May your mother rest in peace. This song oddly enough reminds me of my mother who passed away in 2015
My Mom loved it too and I also lost her to cancer. I can still see her dancing around the living room. ❤
Lex, your joy is infectious!
This woman also feels the vibe. Excellent hit...
My all time favorite song. Remember seeing the video for the first time back in the 80’s my high school and college years. Great times
I've seen Level 42 many times since the 80's, last time was a year ago and they're still an amazing live band. Mark King is an amazing bassist alongside Mike Lindup on the keyboards, always worth seeing if you get a chance.
and his secret weapon jaydee supernautral bass guitar
Mark King is a fantastic bass player!
Was the legendary Wally Badarou on this song or had he left by then?
@@chrisa4695 Wally is credited on the song, so he was still involved.
One of my all-time favorite groups and I have never seen them live! If they ever get back to the U.S., I will definitely go see them!
The quintessential 80s song - gated drums, synth, slapped bass, it’s all there. And I have the album on cassette tape!
Cool, I still have many of my cassettes from the 80s.
My brother had their album on cassette tape , which is now in my collection 😊
That and Duran Duran tape
Yeah but they pulled it off without sounding dated and cheesy. Lol.
You: "IT'S OVER! I have the album. On cassette tape..."
Anakin: "You underestimate my downloads!!"
(edited: high ground)
I love how lex is always so enthusiastic - doesn’t matter the musical genre, she is into it, and good on ya for it.
Omg I loved them back in high school in the 80s.
Brilliant tune... I played this man many times when I was a DJ in the early 80s. It worked well with Howard Jones with New song and Go West with We close our eyes
Brilliant set!
Nice set. Three great tunes. Love them all!
This made me smile.
Thats a great setlist!
Sounds great to me!
The 80's were so romantic you could fall in love anytime, anywhere with just a look and a smile. The group ABC did a song, The Look of Love
ABC (Lexicon of Love LP), Heaven 17 (Let Me Go or Temptation) Spandau Ballet (Chant No. 1), Fashion (Love Shadow), Gang of Four (Is It Love),... So many Soulboys were breaking through thanks to MTv and radio stations like KROQ.
You know, I do recall that being the case :-)
This band is so legendary YOU MUST react to other great songs from this band, like " Lessons in Love"; "Running in the family"; " Overtime", " Forever Now" just to name a few...great, great band from England!
Lessons In Love is a DEFINITE must!
Yes, yes, yes!!! 😊❤
"It's Over" is another great song of theirs
And "Children Say" too!
@@heidie2081 Children Say! Absolutely!
Lessons in love is another Level 42 track that you should have a listen to. The bass line is just incredible
OMG! I hadn't heard this song in like 20 years. I had forgotten how much I like it.
Gotta say, I live on the Isle of Wight where most of this band come from and I've been into Phil Goulds house lol, so many years ago, he was married to a sister of one of my best mates! Mark King also had a pub we all used to go to in Ryde on the Island called Joe Dafloes, was the place to be before we all went clubbing at the weekends, late 80s/ early 90s. So many memories and such good tunes from Level 42!
Probably my favorite band of all time. In the US, they only had a handful of hits (this and "Lessons in Love" were the biggest), but they put out over a dozen albums that fused jazz, pop, rock, and funk in a way that I'd never heard before. Lead singer Mark King is one of the best bass players in the last 50 years, and the falsetto of Mike Lindup just takes the vocals to a new level. Their catalog is deep, but few (if any reactors) go much more than one or two songs deep into them. Some of their other wonderful songs include "Kansas City Milkman", "To Be With You Again", "Her Big Day", "Guaranteed", "Leaving Me Now", "Lying Still", "Micro-Kid", "The Machine Stops", and so many more. Thank you so much for reacting!! (Fun fact - Mark King is the only rock star I ever had my picture taken with, as a gawky 17 year old. Good times.)
My favorite of theirs is "Children Say".
Great band! Kind of hard to tell from this more radio friendly cut, but Mark King is an absolute beast on the bass. One of the best. ‘Hot Water’ is a great track to demonstrate. Their live stuff is amazing!
Hot Water is the best. Great video but even better extended mix with the military cadence. Too cool!
theme to margret is a must the bass beast :)
Love the bass line!
ALWAYS been one of my favorite songs!!!
Fun Fact: Mark King, Level 42's main singer and bass slapper extraordinaire, at the peak of the band's career had his right-hand thumb insured by their record label (Polydor) for £3 million! : )
wrong....nice try !!!
@@fasteddie777666 Nice try? Its true!
@@808fleki 3 million eh ????....bahahahahahahhaaaaaa....okay freak whatever !!!....he's not even Geddy Lee material !!!!....bahahahahaaaaa
@@fasteddie777666 - Look it up. Or are you too afraid to find out that it's you who's wrong?
@@module79l28 hey troll....that crap about his insured thumb was submitted to wikipedia in 2019......sorry dude....I would have believed it better if this was mentioned sometime in the 80;s when this was relevant.....so you believe anything they tell you hey smart girl ????
This is my all-time favorite song. The lyrics are fantastic and the lead singer also plays slap bass, which is just amazing.
Yeah! This was one of my favorite albums of the 80’s. Amazing voice & killer bass 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻♀️
Hey Lestat, hope all is well 💛
@@PhatLayCes7825 Aye, my little hotdog with baked beans! It’s goin’....Getting real tired of all these music reactors...not so much B & L (though they dipped their toe...worst was questioning the legitimacy of the war on Ukraine...almost bailed after that)...But reactors who have no real knowledge about politics, democracy versus theocracy, Democrats versus fascists, etc, & posting these talking heads like Candace Owens, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan...&, my favorite, Ben Shapiro. Leave it to folks like David Pakman or Brian Taylor Green...Folks who have degrees in political economics & journalism....You feel me?
Sorry, I guess I needed to vent...😏
Now this is a banger always loved this tune.
One of my favorite songs growing up. Level 42 is fantastic. So glad reacted to this one. Not many reactors do.
That the two of you found each other is one of the most serendipitous things I've ever seen. Two more diametrically opposites have never existed.
#Facts LOL
You guys are the best. I love Lex's energy and enthusiasm
Damn lots of memories of high school mid 80's. Haven't heard this song in ages.
Mark King had a great bass sound that worked so good with the electronic back then.
I hear ya Paul. 15 in high school just a bit northwest of you. Vivid memories. Great times!
I miss those times.
HS Class of 1986!!! 👍
Lex you are just bursting with love and joy it's a pleasure just watching you. X
British 80s is the gift that keeps on giving.
Lex personifies the freedom that everybody wants to feel when they hear good music.
Great song! These guys were all very talented musicians. Sorely overlooked band that deserves much greater exposure.
Still to this day.
Mark King is a beast. Subtly amazing us with his bass playing.
This was, and still is, my favorite pop song of all time. I was only five years old when it was on the radio and MTV/Vh-1 in the spring and summer of 1986, but I instantly loved everything about it: The synth hook, harmonies, and falsetto of keyboardist and second vocalist Mike Lindup, who handles the choruses. The lead singer and bassist Mark King who does the verses, is an extremely talented bass player who uses the slap bass style for Level 42's earlier jazz funk tunes, as Mark started out as a drummer. He had been drumming since he was nine years old.
This so brings back so much… I’d go back in a heartbeat and live it all again. The good and the bad. You had to be there.
OMG, Lex's enthusiasm is so adorable... I love how she gets into the music. It's cute.
I love how you immediately recognized it as an 80's song. You should react to Shattered Dreams by Johnny Hates Jazz.
Good call!
Great tune!
YES!!
Agree!
Glad you got some Level 42 up in here! I’ve been checking around UA-cam reactors looking for this band for the past year and there just ain’t many reactions to Level 42. So Thank you guys!!!
Get it Lex!! 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
So 80’s. This song never gets old.
Lex, I knew you would love this classic.
That's a great fucking tune.
FINALLY!! Level 42! that poor guy from the Live Steam threw down$50 for it a couple of weeks ago and never got it - I was SO bummed for him because it was his Anniversary and he said this song was playing when he met his wife :^(
One of the greatest and most underrated songs of the 80's and one one my favorite songs of all time.
Mark King is an unbelievable talent.
Lex has a great vibe in this video.
They have so many great hits...
Your reaction was so pure! So... joyful! I absolutely loved it! You two made me smile so BIG! Lots and lots of love to you both ❤️
The number 42 is especially significant to fans of science fiction novelist Douglas Adams' “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,” because that number is the answer given by a supercomputer to “the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.”
Level 42 was a floor in a Dr who story as well.
It also was Jackie Robinson's number, now retired by MLB.
Wow, I have been looking for this song for so long!! Because it is my favorite Level 42 song!! And I couldn't remember the l title of the song. And and lo and behold there it is sitting right there in your on your Channel so thank you for having that I Know It This was was not a coincidence wow I mean when I heard the opening riff or whatever you know I was just blown away I was I need to go to bed now
These guys had some really great tunes . Brings back some awesome memories
Oh guys! Level 42 was so Great!!!!
I did play the Level 42 cassette a million times!
Regards from Chile 🙂
Always DID love this song! Thanks that we got to share it together!
I 1sr heard Level 42 when I was stationed in Germany. They were, of course , very popular in Europe.
Lex, u r funny! Glad u like this song. I never get tired of hearing 80s songs.😉👍
Great 80s tune - Lex is really getting into this one!
Lex vibing is every GenXer hearing this song in the middle of the grocery store. You cannot avoid that groove, it’s the law. When a Mark King bassline hits you must dance.
Level 42,are a Great Band with a great sound. Many album tracks that are worth a play!
Lex would have had soooo much fun in the 80s! There were songs like this all over the radio all of the time! Bop on, Lex!!
You guys are a great escape. Lex has a contagious smile and Brad catches it too.
I love the harmonies in this song. And it may be because this song "broke," and was popular, during the summer, but this song always reminds me of summer. I remember being in Pensacola with my mates in the 80s, dancing to this song, and feeling like I would ALWAYS love this song. And I did!
Great point Brad - many love songs suit both a marriage and a funeral, as you listen to them.
Lex you have loved living in the 80s truly a different time back then. This brings back High School memories for me🤔
“80s is the perfect vibe” and boom i’m back in the room and Lex has maximum respect 😀
Finally reacted to this song, a few of us have been suggesting it for a minute, too bad I missed it live. Such a classic, knew you both would like it.
Every livestream that has been "appropriate" for this song I spammed it over and over ... and 3x it made a poll but lost ... was happy to have spammed this and see it win the poll by MASSIVE margin - but the ending got cut short because it was the 10th song in the stream and the copyright hammer came down :(
Would have loved to hear more discussion on it !
LLLOOOVVVEEE LEVEL 42, since their first album.
Have seen them far too many times to count. Off to see them again at Let's Rock Liverpool, soon.
Please watch the video and review it's over and The sun goes down.
#superfan.
I've tried a ton of times to get reactors to do this one. Thanks👍
I love that you love the '80's music....
Love this song! REMINDS me of the wave pool in the early days I'm 42 but still feels old lol, BTW Lex is so adorable! Love her energy!
The bass player/lead singer is otherworldly...another level player.
Leaving me now is my fave Level 42 song.
And I’m a metal head. \m/
Great underappreciated track.
Don't just sit there Princess get up and dance. 😂
I was 18 back in '85, coming to grips with the wild emotions of a first serious crush, and then this song comes out and wrecks me upside the head. I've heard it hundreds and hundreds of times, and I never get tired of it. It's just that good.
best 80's song
Level 42 is an amazing band and Mark King is not only an excellent singer but also a great bass player, that man is a beast.
Lex was totally feeling it , fun to watch. The live from Holland 2009 version with sax is the best , must see .
Level 42 👍🏻 Now there's a rabbit hole you need to go down. So many amazing songs to choose from, always bring back great memories.
Great number. Love the production, and such a positive vibe.
Look at the way Lex commits to her air guitar! I miss her so much!
One of my fav bands ever, loved the sound and the way mark king played the bass guitar.
Dis my Jam brodies!!! You can't complain Oh i'm kicking ya out da CLUB!🤨😂
NIIIIICE! THIS IS MY FAVORITE 80S SONG
Love Lex's vibe, keep up the good work guys!
Such a great tune.. always love your reaction..typical 80s..
Oh heck yes! Definitely one of those 80’s STAPLES! Big time-😄
I always loved this song. He's a great bass player with a prettey cool voice.
Do you know what. On my down days Im going to watch Lex to pick me up again. That joyous look during 80's music is infectious.
One of my favorite ‘80’s songs ever!
Mark kings bass tone is just so massive. He crushes it. Always crushes it
This song will never not be excellent!
You know when Lex is really into a song 'cos the knees come into view :)
Me and my mom really like this song. Bars! It's such a feel good song.
One of my favourite bands from the 80,s 🎶
It was such a good time to be young ..if I were to sum up the 80,s in one word it would be 'FUN ! 🎶👍
May be my favorite song ever
Lex wearing a t-shirt with Brad's head on it while he is sitting next to her wearing that same hat is too meta. LMAO
80s were grand you two. I miss em. Texas here.
Haven’t heard this in forever. Great song.
These guys are phenomenal! Love games is great, and lessons in love is awesome
