At 9:05 they're talking about the study that LEGO did. They wanted to see how boys and girls play with their toys. They found that when boys played with different characters (batman, superman, sponge bob, etc) the boys acted the characters out and had Batman interact with Sponge Bob in ways that they would. When girls played with the same characters, they ignored the preestablished characters completely and had them act in ways the girls would personally act and respond. This is probably why modern game characters/story are so bad cause it's all fan fiction garbage ignoring character and lore.
@@AndrewBrownK There's a reason why the Bible and other scriptures speak about being careful with women. Whether you believe the Bible or not, it was still written by actual people and they knew what happens when women are unleashed. The human race has known for thousands of years that most women will self destruct and take everyone else down with them if given the chance. It's not directly correlated but it's kinda funny to see how much things have gotten worse since women were given the right to vote. I have no problem with DLCs as a concept. I have problems with DLCs that cost half or more of the price of the base game without an appropriate amount of content, that come out before 1 year has passed for a game to be able to stand on its own two feet, and includes content that clearly either should have been in the base game or is obviously cut from the base game (particularly lore stuff). That kind of stuff is bullshit. A DLC should feel like a genuine addition to the game that is fun for it's own reasons, and not part of a checklist for players to feel like they're playing the full game.
@@Jaimyoutubing Well DLC as expansion packs are fine. But a lot of games now are basically released unfinished or with very little content and then forces you get the DLC to have a complete experience.
You mean the 1990s. NES and SNES games were fully complete with little to no bugs and fantastic. I wish consoles never figured out how to work with the internet. We'd still be getting unbuggy games that were complete and no nickle and diming content.

But you know, the key to this problem is, ppl should not be defined by only their appearance but what they have done, many ppl without a good looking face are still repectful, they can also achieve great things, that does not mean that we should compliment one's beauty even he or she is ugly. As a chinese guy living in Vancouver now, I decided to go back to China after my graduation, the biggest reason is that i dont want my kid to be taught in this 'diversity, inclusity' way, i just want him or her grown as a normal guy.

8:05 That's definitely part of it. Women and Men just play differently. The chatter shortly after was referencing a study Lego funded to find out how they can break into the young female market. They found that typically how it goes, is boys emulate the character, whereas girls make the character emulate themselves. If a boy is playing with a Batman figure, he will make it fight bad guys and solve crime. If a girl is playing with a Batman figure, she will make it dress up and play house. Even with video games you can see these trends exist. The female player base for a game rises based on a few general factors: 1.) The degree to which it is casual 2.) How much they can make their character embody themselves 3.) Is there a social aspect to the game that extends beyond its own niche player base?
I agree about video games at least. I always see studies that say that like half the gamers are women. But almost all the major UA-cam Let's play and the Streamers are males. Also for example my mother is 65 yet she plays some really simple games on the Tablet. Is she a gamer? Hell no. But the statistics say she is...
I don't know if the conclusion you draw from that study is necessarily correct. It could also just mean that boys and girls have different interests, and the batman toy just happens to cater to the boys interest more. If you gave the boy a barbie doll, there is probably a chance that he will make the barbie doll fight instead of dressing her up.
@@kidcoma1340 the study showed that for the average boy the Batman toy is Batman and he uses the toy to roleplay as Batman. Although the average girl knows who Batman is, for her the Batman toy is just a male figure to use in any capacity or role she deems fit. Note that average in most such studies is a minimum of 70% of the test subjects.
0:30 I partially disagree. Although those games have immense quality, we're in the 9th generation of consoles and half of those qualities should be expected in games in general. Chrono Trigger from SNES had 13 different endings, Suikoden from PS1 allowed you to recruit 100 characters, Black from PS2 had realistic graphics, Skyrim from PS3 has 100+ hours of great side content. If we could see this quality in games from 4, 5 generations ago, we should expect more from the current generation. Wukong is not raising the bar, it's remembering us where exactly it's expected to be. That's why companies are scared.
Think this is the wrong take. As long as the characters and their stories are interesting, there's really nothing necessarily wrong with diversity. But when the writers feel the need to include a lesbian character hitting all the stereotypical tropes... it's just so bad.
I watched Rambo for the first time in decades. Its been so long, I didn't remember the story. I sat and watched the whole thing. It's a classic film. I enjoyed it. Then I realized there isn't one female character in the entire film. Not one. Zero speaking lines. Nothing. Everyone doesn't need to be included in everything, every time.
She was queen of the Icene - a British Celtic tribe. Her husband was an ally of Rome but Roman turned on them when he died. She was one of a number of leaders of the different tribes who rose up against Rome. After the British were masacred at the battle of Wattling Street she commited suicide. There is zero evidence that she fought in combat; instead she was a political leader.
Studios just don't want to see the bar raised because then they actually have to compete. Gamers will stop eating the lazy annual release slop. We should expect Baldur's Gate 3 level quality. We should demand Wukong gameplay and story.
I genuinely believe there's a lot of talent working a mobile game studios. I'd assume people working at those kind of studios also get paid more because there's more income flowing in from all the MTXs. Also it's magic how most mobile games even run on phones, anyways. Shows talent, imo.
They also don't want the gravy train of microtransactions and live service stuff to go away because then then can't milk the same one or two games endlessly, they'll be forced to develop new content. I miss the old model of sizable DLC packs for like $15 to $30.
@@jacobasnodgrass5853 yeah i mean the money is really whats making the magic happen. Honkai impact allowed the creation of genshin and then star rail to happen. I think we are gonna have a lot more mobile game studios try to branch out to console games now.
Agree. When looking at the new Ubisoft Star Wars game for example you just see that they aren't even trying, just putting out the most generic slop possible. In Wukong on the other hand there is so much character and detail in even the smallest things. That and all the other recent great titles have put these established triple A studios in a very different light for me. We should expect way better.
Not purchasing games is the best support we, as consumers, can do to get them big companies to understand how bad their products are. They can bark all they want but at the end of the day, bad and ugly designed games will never be appealing to anyone.

We could explore multiple mythologies in a style like Assassin's Creed where each game changes the time line, setting and culture of course I hope the Black Myth series stays good and keeps this quality and not like Assassin's Creed where the quality drastically drops after 5 or 6 titles. They should their their time and make a new game every 4-5 years the same development cycle they had for Wukong.
There's been this weird assumption in creative mediums found at the executive level for a long time that nobody wants "escapism." Instead, its assumed that the audience just wants to see themselves reflected in media and that it's somehow too difficult for people to insert themselves in the place of protagonists that aren't similar to them. Its why superheroes had kid sidekicks, its why anime started setting everything in a high school with teen protagonists, and its why games are currently trying to push their idea of what they want to audience to be - only they want it to reflect themselves as developers, not the actual, general audience for games. That's why this particular attempt is failing so hard. The ones who are making the decisions on games aren't reflective of the audience that plays them. And it's largely because this new crop of developers dont have traditional backgrounds. The industry has become a gathering place for talented outsiders and lgbtq+ creatives that didn't fit in elsewhere, and as a result, it is now quite an elitist and protected space. They really are reflecting themselves in these games but are ignoring the fact that this demographic makeup literally ONLY exists in their insular environment. They hate the reality that the audience, numerically, isnt demographically similar to them, causing them to actively deny it and hope that, one day, if they wish it hard enough and force feed people long enough, it will eventually become true.

I personally also played and still own both of the first 2 Baldur's Gates but not the Icewind Dale game. That series in itself was always known to be groundbreaking with it's games. BG1 was a huge deal in the D&D computer games scene since most of the games had been by SSI and of very limited quantity and even more limited content. Even certain classes were kept out of those games such as druids while certain other classes were limited in what they could actually due if they were included such as bards and rangers. Both BG3 and Wukong didn't raise any bars to new levels, those levels were already their. Nor did they raise the standards for AAA companies because those standards were originally set years ago by AAA companies. Both BG3 and Wukong only brought those standards back and AAA companies are fuming because they got rid of the people that set those standards years ago. Boudicca was a queen of the ancient British Iceni tribe, a Celtic tribe. She destroyed Colchester, London and what is known now as St Albans. There are four references of her, and one eyewitness in Tacitus who wrote many years after the rebellion, but his father-in-law Gnaeus Julius Agricola was an eyewitness to the events, having served in Britain as a tribune under Suetonius Paulinus during this period. There is a statue of Boudicca in Westminster in London.
The biggest problem in modern western game dev right now isn't corporate greed or toxic fandom. No, the biggest problem is that most of the developers are literal communists and/or incompetent DEI hires. They subscribe to the labor theory of value, so they think they should be allowed to create whatever they want and the market should automatically reward them with sales, attention, and adoration. They view themselves as laborers putting in an honest days work, and they think this creates actual unassailable value in the form of their "products". In reality, almost no one wants their bad games, bad characters, bad gameplay, etc. And when the sales don't materialize, the devs immediately point the finger at either the "unrealistic expectations" of the executives or the "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic" leanings of the audience. At no point in time will these leftist devs ever accept responsibility for the fact that they injected their own unpopular aesthetics and ideologies into their games, and that these things are what caused the lion's share of consumers to dip out.
Also I believe there is plenty of good devs who want to make good games for the audiences working in those companies. It is just sad reality that they will get fired if they go against anything by those people... They want to do their craft, but politics win in corporations and the DEI crowd is all about politics...
Only thing I got from reading that is that this guy has no clue about economics. He took a loose shit the other day; probably blamed it on the labour theory of value. How ironic that he's so similar to the "communists" he's railing against lmfao.

They are the bar of what we the players deserve after the gaming industry has evolved and improved on a technological level.

This explains so much bad character writing literally everywhere

Wukong feels like a Good Game from the 2000's full Game no DLC Bullshit and full of Fun.

The biggest problem for 'DEI' is they are trying to eliminate the concept of beauty and ugly, they are telling ppl that there are no ugly ppl, you all look pretty.

That's definitely part of it.
The female player base for a game rises based on a few general factors:
1.) The degree to which it is casual
2.) How much they can make their character embody themselves
3.) Is there a social aspect to the game that extends beyond its own niche player base?
I agree about video games at least. I always see studies that say that like half the gamers are women. But almost all the major UA-cam Let's play and the Streamers are males. Also for example my mother is 65 yet she plays some really simple games on the Tablet. Is she a gamer? Hell no. But the statistics say she is...
Women in gaming can be grouped into two broad catagories.
Pre-Sims and Post-Sims.
I’m a woman. I don’t agree at all. But don’t have time argue. Bye
@@kidcoma1340 the study showed that for the average boy the Batman toy is Batman and he uses the toy to roleplay as Batman. Although the average girl knows who Batman is, for her the Batman toy is just a male figure to use in any capacity or role she deems fit.

Games like this and BG3 don't raise the bar, they're bringing the bar back up to what the AAA studios used have it set to and this is a very good thing. Either the AAA studios get their act together or these smaller studios will replace them.
I'm sorry but as a game, Wukong is just not comparable in quality to BG3. I don't think it really moves the bar, outside of maybe graphically.
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot BG3 is trash
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot I wasn't comparing it against BG3 but against the AAA titles that came out around the same time as both games. By the way, the standards I'm talking about are quality over quantity and pushing for games to improve for setting better standards and not just graphics and other things, this can include certain mechanics too.
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot never compared them against each other only against the AAA titles that were released recently. They both never raised the bar to new levels. They brought the bar back to the levels the AAA industry had set years ago. They never brought new standards to the industry either, they brought back old standards that the AAA industry had in place years ago. I've been a hardcore gamer since the early 80s and I've also played many of the computer games based on D&D including BG 1&2 along with the SSI gold/silver box games and NWN 1&2. I still play BG1 on occasions, I would play the NWN games but they're not compatible with recent versions of windows.
@@Userdoesnotexit Larian Studios are full allies. Not funding them nor such companies like Games Workshop (Warhammer games).
Wukong is truly a game. You play a full passionate game made by extremely dedicated developers.
You feel the labor of love here just like Baldurs gate 3.
How do i know that? When a dev puts in this much detail and small little secrets then you know it's made with passion.
They want woke game, we want monke game!

Asmon: "If you make your characters fat and ugly don't be suprised when no one wants to play them"
Chatters: "roadhog?"
Asmon said "Fat and Ugly". roadhog may be fat, but he's not ugly.
They did a good job of making him look cool, both default skin and the cosmetics like the snowman and butcher skins.
He is one of likw 40+ characters in a multiplayer game, not a main character or the heroes girlfriend who looked OK in the prequel.
But wukong is ugly
@@륜폐이 I don't think he's ugly. But to be fair he's not fat either lol
Roadhog is good because he’s a badass Australian biker with a very imposing figure and a good design, notice how fat isn’t the only trait
I had a nightmare last night that Ubisoft made Black Myth Wukong. I have never been so terrified in my whole life

Damn, all that exploration must have been horrifying
Spoiler: the pig is in love with the spider.
Maximum diversity
And had a daughter together. It can't get more diverse than this
They don't even reach that point in the game, they are still stuck in the first area.
lmao, YES!
Raising the bar of how games should be made? Complete, not a scam, or a quick money grabber? Good thats how it should be.
11:18 on the right, asmon looks like he's running for president in that otk newsletter thing
"I'm looking out for you. I'm asmongold and I approve this message".
It's funny cause "perceived as a threat" has the same meaning as "better" inside the industry
Well certain countries have been perceived as a threat at different times by the US 😂
The biggest problem in modern western game dev right now isn't corporate greed or toxic fandom.
Does ideology even matter when the game is just good? Those game are bad because they're bad that's it
What does it even have to do with communism?
I dont get why people blame everything on communism even if its unrelated
Only thing I got from reading that is that this guy has no clue about economics. He took a loose shit the other day; probably blamed it on the labour theory of value. How ironic that he's so similar to the "communists" he's railing against lmfao.

Wu kong and not woke kong
If an American studio made Black Myth Wukong, yall would be calling that woke because it features minorities aka Chinese people and mythology. Stop lying to yourself.
In fact, the most handsome character in the game CG of *Black Myth: Wukong* is Nezha! He’s also a powerful deity in *Journey to the West*! A truly rebellious young warrior god with a defiant spirit, challenging authority and defying patriarchy!❤
Asmon: "Concord is, in my opinion, one of the biggest failures in gaming that I have seen in my entire life."
Dustborn: "TRIGGERED !!!"
I'm loving Black Myth: Wukong so far. I'm halfway chapter 3 and taking it slow. I don't think I will replay it anytime soon though.
How so?
They says wukong have 5 ending and only 3 ending is found at this time , as real gamer you should aim for those 5 ending 😁
@@mrwilson.1I don't think endings carry enough for multiple playthroughs, since this is a corridor-style game once you find something you know where it is almost always which takes away exploration from other playthroughs. That's why I think they say it.
Actually there are a ton of female character in Journey to the West. One of the major divine presences throughout the story is Guanyin, Boddhisattva of Mercy. One of the major demon they encounter is White Bone Demon, a woman that framed Wukong for murder, caused him to leave the group. There's the spider demon that seduces disciples. There's Prince Iron Fan, Bull demon's wife, who intend to seek revenge for Wukong causing her husband to be captured by heaven. Wukong also gained his immortality by stealing Queeen Mother West's peaches, and crashed her party before the journey. There's that entire plot where they went into a kingdom of only women and Tang Sanzang got pregnant drinking the magical child bearing spring. There are more, these are just the ones I can remember
You are correct. I suspect that because most of them aren’t exactly the combat type. They rely on backhand tactics. So in a combat focused game like Wukong, it makes sense to not have them.
You can tell right away that Concord was made to fail.
One thing I disagree on, it is that games like black myth: WuKong raises the bar, no it doesn't they just move the bar back from the floor to its normal position
And it's $60 here and $40 in China. Not $70 and $100 for 3 days of early access. W game. Everyone should support it.
No Sweet Baby Inc., no DEI, no characters purposely made as ugly as possible...
Greatest game ever? No. Step in the right direction for gaming? Yes.
Wukong is proof the whole “we gotta keep our player numbers up” tactics and milk them for money through in-game stores to be “profitable” is just dogshit. Wukong is made just like any PS2 game. Buy it, play it, thank you for having fun. And just like that 2m+ players for the whole week who WILL be back whenever they make a new game or a sequel.
I blieve they won gamers when they denied that Sweet baby inc bullshit. W Game Sience
these people will call you fragile and entitled when you point out their agenda, then turn around and start crying the instant a single game that doesn't conform to their agenda is made

Games like BM Wukong, Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring etc dont raise the expectations, they deliever whats used to be a standard. Shitty studios nowadays just test playerbase what crap can they put out and get away with it
Sorry but BM Wukong is not on the same level as those two. Linear story, bad sound effect, especially the weapon and a very easy game.
@Pepe-dq2ib L take
@@Pepe-dq2ib those are just different types of games, dont compare them, enjoy them
A 8/10 game.
Baldurs Gate 3 is bad porn fanfiction written by pronoun cultists on twitter and has gender theory propaganda. Such a product never was and never will be a "standard". It was flavor of the month corporate slop for normies. So you can stop simping for Larian if you ever want to be taken seriously, and not looked at like a basic parroting shill.
1 small gripe regarding your take, games like Baldur's, Elden Ring and Wukong dont raise the bar for gaming. They show what could (and in this day and age should) be possible for modern games while maintaining respect for your players. They are the bar of what we the players deserve after the gaming industry has evolved and improved on a technological level.
imo Baldur's Gate 3 def raised the bar in some respects.
No disrespect I just don't see Wukong in that group, not even close
