nothing beats the finishing on a San Martin. The only issue is that they make a lot of smaller watches under 40mm. They said they are making this one in 41mm soon, can't wait, that bracelet looks amazing

How big is your wrist? I have an 8 inch wrist, and this watch in red fits me fine. It's different than divers, because there is no bezel, so the dial is bigger and doesn't make it wear/feel small on wrist.
My wrist size is 20cm and I've got a feeling the 39mm size could be perfect for me. I can't usually go below 39mm, but 39mm tends to agree with me -- provided the watch isn't _toooo_ thin & light (unless it's a dressy piece). Of course bezel width also factors in (making these "wear larger" by perhaps 1mm b/c of the relatively slim bezel). Maybe the only reason to hold off is they could release another color that I like better. The blue sure is purdy though.

I’ve got a couple is San martins in my collection and found them excellent value. The materials and manufacturing are by far better than what they charge for these watches. I own many watches which cost so much more but I’m pleased to wear my San martins in rotation along with my more expensive watches
I reviewed the 36mm orange version, and it's fantastic. A Swiss equivalent would cost at least 5 times as much. I would love to see SM include a scratch resistant coating, but this is very rare with even top luxury watches

Great presentation! I wonder if you missed something or there is variability in the product delivered, because I noticed, and many other people have commented, that even though the case is very nicely finished and beveled to avoid sharp corners, the bracelet is not. Sure it is very nicely chamfered for the visual effect, but the inside edge, and corners of the links on the outside edge, are very sharp out of the box. I think this is really a serious oversight on their part, and it gives off a cheap feel immediately to anyone who has experienced a luxury watch before. Personally, I spent probably a total of around 4 hours carefully filing and polishing the internal edge and interfacing edge corners of every single link, and now my own piece feels much more like a real luxury brand, without looking noticeably different. It's a difficult job to do without damage, and most people won't dare try. My 4 hours work could surely have been done in a fraction of that time on an assembly line, adding very little to the cost. I agree, too, about the lubrication or polish of the bracelet and clasp. The machine parts interface needs lubricating for feel, and the bracelet actually squeaks when left to dangle in the hand. Easily fixed with a quick oil and/or wax treatment,,, but I shouldn't need to do it myself. Most paying customers won't.
It would indeed have been an improvement to have chamfers on the underside of the bracelet, I never felt my bracelet was sharp at all on mine, I still wear it often 😊 But I appreciate your detailed take on it, love to see your support and engagement! Good tips to elevate its feeling, I need to try giving a bath to a bracelet and see how much of a difference it makes, many recommended it on new watches
Nice video and great watch! Regarding QC: I've had misaligned hands on two Seikos, a Sinn and a Tag Heuer... Apparently they all have no QC to speak of. I recently bough 5 Chinese watches via Ali Express (and not even the more expensive ones). Misaligned hands: 0!! Everything perfectly accurate. Shame on you Seiko, Sinn and Tag Heuer!

Love this watch ! the strap looks stunning as does the face, this is one that I will buy along with a few other San Martin watches that I've been eyeing up as I feel that they have some great looking and very well made and finished designs... I would also love to see San Martin do an integrated bracelet with the quality of what they have here, for me that would be an absolute no brainer to buy. I bought a grand seiko 2 months ago but still see Some San Martin watches have great finishing The gap isn't as big as the price suggest when comparing the case metal finishing. Also a good idea, but I used to include my caliper measuring in the videos, but looking back at my video statistics from those videos, it showed me that a considerate amount of viewers lost interest in the video and left the video during that part. What I do now is I only post measurements that I take by my own caliper, never looking at the Aliexpress listings. This way you know that what I write or mention in the video is always the true measurements 😊 I did include all the measurements by text in the end of this video also, it is easy to miss because I didn't talk about it, but only had it briefly on screen

And in my opinion, this is the most important factor for a watch enthusiast: The joy of a watch! The dial of my orange version is overwhelming in the sunlight! The synthesis of craftsmanship, history and high tech is perfectly successful. The quality is at least comparable to my Swiss watches with the 1000 € price segment. I didn't quite understand, have all the dials on this watch been updated or just the red and orange ones? The blue version seen in the video looks great to me, I've seen other reviews where the smoked part of the applied indexes seems too dark to me, but I see that there is a link to the updated red and orange dials. If there are two versions of the blue dial I prefer the lighter one. I would appreciate it if you could resolve this doubt for me. Thanks in advance Excuse my poor level of English.

@@joanjofre5736 that is correct, in some warm lights the dial can even look a bit turquiose almost, but in normal light it looks striking blue, an at an angle the fume becomes a bit stronger 😊
I'm more and more impressed with SM. I almost bought their summer diver, but I'm going to see how the brand evolves over time and get something special in the future (I feel the same about WISE in Thailand). Wait and see.
What about the strong arguments for quartz movements . I’m wearing a quartz watch that’s 7mm thick, light, accurate and doesn’t require frequent expensive visits for maintenance. I can see what you like about this watch though.
We need more options for high accuracy quartz movements to be used in microbrands before they're taken serious. The vh31 is like the only one that is decent. However, the better movements aren't available to show its true possibility of incredible quartz watches.
@@gilbertoflores7397 my two favorite quartz are the VH31 and any Ronda Two hander (Ronda 751 for example). I enjoy the accuracy, slimness and not having to set the watch every time I switch back to it 👌
@@RIOLOGY I think Bulova makes some cool HAQ movements that have the same gliding sweep as the spring drive, but they put it in ugly watches. If a microbrand could buy the movements in bulk. It'd be a game changer. I've looked into trying to mod one, but it's almost impossible to buy the movements on its own. They have like 2 different movements like that, seiko has a HAQ movement they use for the Dolce line, that's would be nice to see in other watches. And citizen make some great HAQ movements too, only found in their The Citizen line of watches. If some of those movements could be put into microbrands, everyone would accept them.

I didn't own the Alpinist, but after watching videos of the Alpinist, I can tell you that the San Martin has a much better finished bracelet, a better clasp and a better movement.
Thanks for your review. Can you answer this question? Previous San Martin Bracelets used to have 3 perm links attached on either side. But I've noticed this new bracelet has 4 perm links. Does that mean on the 6'oclock side it is longer possible to only have 4 links? This is how i wear my current San Martin watches as my wrist is small. Wirh 5 links on @6 side, the watch wont sit centered on the bracelet for me.

San Martin make a good watch, but over the past 18 months the rest are quickly catching up. Soon they'll all have the same movements, lume quality, crystals and excellent finishing. The difference is... the rest are much cheaper. WatchDives for example have just swapped factories and their products are excellent now. San Martin aren't over-rated just yet. But they are over-priced. Soon, they'll be part of the pack with all the other Chinese factories. Full disclosure... I have 4 x San Martins and I have zero complaints except for pricing.
I like your reasoning, I have a Watchdives with me that has really impressed me on value! But this video is focused on those who are looking for an original design, especially focused on typical swiss arguments. I love WD, Cronos and many others, but they are not slightly original in their designs, I love have unoriginal designs too, dont get me wrong. But when going with San Martins recent models, you are getting something unique that you can actually wear to a authorized watch dealer without feeling weird about it. I do wear some blatant homages, but not everywhere 😊

Generally speaking, spending more gets better value (especially in a watch), but I 100% agree this is probably a highlight watch in its price range. Mine was due yesterday so hopefully any day now before I can pop it next to a Tissot. It's simply not worth mentioning Patek, or ordinary brands like Rolex. It's so funny Omega are never mentioned, but surely the real benchmark would be Christopher Ward?

If it let’s say being an Oris watch, then this watch would’ve been at least 2500€ - 3000€. This is top notch quality and given its features like the Miyota calibre, the clasp, the screwed in bracelet links and of the course, that beautiful imaculate finishing of the polishing/brushing parts. The design of the watch is nice,but that mile long clsps looks horrible. The bracelet should have shorter links and smaller clasps . That clasps suit a diver watch
I understand what you mean mate, it is indeed long, but it is to allow the on the fly adjustment mechanism which I find very much worth it because I use it all the time, especially now that I go out in the cold and back in to the heat inside all the time 😊
Ooohhhh... The bracelet is the part I love the most. Its design is very similar to the Interstellar khaky pilot, but you get no on the fly adjustment even for three times the price.
The only similarity to the Straum models is (perhaps) a dial finishing technique. I wonder if all the haters are knocking on all the doors of watch brands using Sun ray dials or fume dials or birch pattern dials. It feels like people are just set against San Martin as a brand. Honestly, how many wave dials are out there among microbrands?

I do respect both opinions even if my own opinion is that this dial is very original and its inspiration is from their 1000 year old tradition 😊 You make a good point in many dials being unintentionally similar to something else, we have so many options nowadays it is almost impossible to make something that will not have familiarity even if it was never the intention 😅

I recently started looking into watches and I am kind of getting turned off from them because of the enthusiasts, I am amazed at how arrogant, simple minded and annoying most are. What I have gathered from watching watch reviews and reading the comments is that if a watch doesn’t have the following they are garbage; cost an arm & leg, made is switzerland, has to make the movement in house, if talking a diver can only be a Rolex maybe an Omega, has to have the absolute best finishing and materials and cannot be a homage in way. I can afford expensive watches but would never pay an arm and leg for a brand name, hell the cheap Timex my mother bought me like 40 years when I was youngster and still working, Rolex fan boys make it sound like if you buy something else it won’t last. San Martin is absolutely in my sights but after I buy a Nomos and Wise, I think that Wise offers better value than SM and just love the look of the Nomos I am eyeing.

Generally you find the most humble enthusiasts shopping in priceranges under 1K. I can afford Rolexes too, right now, grey market, but I am not dumb, I buy gold and sell it when I can buy property. I'm not living in a rat race spending my money on hiding my self esteem 😭 Anyway, enough ranting for me too, I think Wise makes some really cool watches, whatever you get, wear it in good health brother! ❤️💯

Proper QC on a 6k+ watch should be expected, no? 🤷♂️ And just like that, Rolex gets thousands of reports of unhappy customers with misalignments after 5 year waitlist. But what surprises me is that the red coloured edition is much chipper, at least in the page coming along with the link. And thanks for your video. Probably the best bang for buck watch ever made. Genuinely. I got this one at launch and movement runs at +1. Finishing is as good or possibly even better than my Tudor and the dial is stunning. For the £200 I paid it shouldn't be possible. Only thing I can criticise is due to how slim the case is it's the worst rotor wobble I've ever experienced and I've had loads of Miyotas. Also the date is fractionally misaligned. It seems to be a manufacturing issue as every single one I've seen on UA-cam or Facebook has the same issue.

I dont experience the same wobble, a slight bit but that is when I try on purpose to shock the watch, I think that is because the movement is unidirectionally winding (having a free sprung direction). I have heard that it can vary from one Miyota to another. And now that you mention it, I can see it, the date is slightly to the right side on some dates! San Martin is promoted heavily online but every time I take a look on their site I fail to see the originality you are talking about - their designs are clearly inspired after everything that others have done traditionally and has been successful - Omega, Rolex, Tudor, GS, Citizen and so on; and boy they put out a watch for everything they feel deserves to be copied; are they bang for the buck? absolutely!! are they competing with the established swiss brands? not really; are they competing with some of the microbrands - yes; are they "original" in any way? not in my opinion;

Check up the Straum Jan Mayen or the Straum Opphav. The Dials are heavily inspired by those watches. I think San Martin is not quite there yet but there getting more unique nontheless
@@nikolaimattheis1165 Thank you for the comment mate 😊 While both has a 3D pattern that is stretches from the pinion to the outer edges, they are very different in execution and different in inspiration. The San Martins 3D pattern is more alike the natural occuring Jian Zhan structure and it is divided in "islands". The Straun is inspired by moss and we can see they have a groove-like pattern, almost like sand dunes, being much deeper than the San Martin. Also the San Martin has more layers, first is the color of the dial itself, blue in this case, with an added layer of fume and lastly an enamel layer on top, making the dial glossy and ceramic like. The Straum dial doesnt have the added enamel layer on top making it different in this regard aswell. The inspiration is clearly taken from a different source than the Straum, and is connected with traditional Chinese culture. Although, the Straum dial is very gorgeous and I would love to have one of those too! Sorry for exhausting you with my long take on this 😂 And thanks for watching!

back then swiss exported their bare bones watches to japan so the japanese could see how the swiss were doing their watches then eventually beat them at their own game. now the tides have come to china with their manufacturing actually assembling original swiss watches and shipping it back to the swiss. imo san martin is china's both feet at the door and it's exciting. time to get competitive again! not to mention timex is killing it as of late
@@royrichardellasos5332 I agree on this, most people should be introduced to the chinese watchmaking with watches such as San Martins or similiar brands to have a really good wake-up call to the current reality, which like you said is changing since back in times with Japan already once before. It is currently, with swiss regulations, too easy to curcumvent the "swiss made" label and make quantitively the majority of parts in China, as long as you make 60% of the *costs* of parts in Switzerland. Have in mind that making a small and expensive part of the watch made in Switzerland and having the rest of the parts made cheaply in China can make this 60% cost requirement fulfilled very easily 😅 I think there are alot of smoke and mirror, however I do enjoy seeing European microbrands also taking a piece of this cake, offering a bit more expensive than Chinese, but not blatantly overcharging thousands of dollars per piece
I could really connect with you throughout the video, especially with the feeling of being proud of the watch you’re wearing (and the self-diagnosed ADHD 😅). I need a diver’s bezel in my watches so this watch you’re showing does not appeal to me, nor do the bright colors. I obsess with my watch matching my clothes so that blue is out of question. However, I’m impressed with what SM has achieved with this watch. I’m a fan of the brand, now more than ever. Thanks for sharing so many facts I ignored (history ones) that put the Chinese watches in a higher tier, at least in my mind.

I appreciate Chinese watch brands that embraces their own culture, it feels like it comes with s real personality and not a fake one! It is easier to bond with the watch, even though it is superficial 😅 and Chinese culture is very rich to begin with, I hope to see more watches inspired by that in the future
Looks like a great watch. Wish they made it in a size for adults though. I wear anything from 41mm (Squale) to 73mm (Zlatoust), but at 39mm it's really more suitable for a child or Asian woman.

nothing beats the finishing on a San Martin. The only issue is that they make a lot of smaller watches under 40mm. They said they are making this one in 41mm soon, can't wait, that bracelet looks amazing

How big is your wrist? I have an 8 inch wrist, and this watch in red fits me fine. It's different than divers, because there is no bezel, so the dial is bigger and doesn't make it wear/feel small on wrist.

My wrist size is 20cm and I've got a feeling the 39mm size could be perfect for me. I can't usually go below 39mm, but 39mm tends to agree with me -- provided the watch isn't _toooo_ thin & light (unless it's a dressy piece). Of course bezel width also factors in (making these "wear larger" by perhaps 1mm b/c of the relatively slim bezel). Maybe the only reason to hold off is they could release another color that I like better. The blue sure is purdy though.

I’ve got a couple is San martins in my collection and found them excellent value. The materials and manufacturing are by far better than what they charge for these watches. I own many watches which cost so much more but I’m pleased to wear my San martins in rotation along with my more expensive watches

I reviewed the 36mm orange version, and it's fantastic. A Swiss equivalent would cost at least 5 times as much. I would love to see SM include a scratch resistant coating, but this is very rare with even top luxury watches

Great presentation! I wonder if you missed something or there is variability in the product delivered, because I noticed, and many other people have commented, that even though the case is very nicely finished and beveled to avoid sharp corners, the bracelet is not. Sure it is very nicely chamfered for the visual effect, but the inside edge, and corners of the links on the outside edge, are very sharp out of the box. I think this is really a serious oversight on their part, and it gives off a cheap feel immediately to anyone who has experienced a luxury watch before. Personally, I spent probably a total of around 4 hours carefully filing and polishing the internal edge and interfacing edge corners of every single link, and now my own piece feels much more like a real luxury brand, without looking noticeably different. It's a difficult job to do without damage, and most people won't dare try. My 4 hours work could surely have been done in a fraction of that time on an assembly line, adding very little to the cost. I agree, too, about the lubrication or polish of the bracelet and clasp. The machine parts interface needs lubricating for feel, and the bracelet actually squeaks when left to dangle in the hand. Easily fixed with a quick oil and/or wax treatment,,, but I shouldn't need to do it myself. Most paying customers won't.
It would indeed have been an improvement to have chamfers on the underside of the bracelet, I never felt my bracelet was sharp at all on mine, I still wear it often 😊 But I appreciate your detailed take on it, love to see your support and engagement! Good tips to elevate its feeling, I need to try giving a bath to a bracelet and see how much of a difference it makes, many recommended it on new watches

Nice video and great watch! Regarding QC: I've had misaligned hands on two Seikos, a Sinn and a Tag Heuer... Apparently they all have no QC to speak of. I recently bough 5 Chinese watches via Ali Express (and not even the more expensive ones). Misaligned hands: 0!! Everything perfectly accurate. Shame on you Seiko, Sinn and Tag Heuer!

The gap isn't as big as the price suggest when comparing the case metal finishing.
Now this Sn0144 looks even better then the 0129, especially with the new bracelet, it looks more premium.

@@illusionzz236 thank you bro! Also a good idea, but I used to include my caliper measuring in the videos, but looking back at my video statistics from those videos, it showed me that a considerate amount of viewers lost interest in the video and left the video during that part.
What I do now is I only post measurements that I take by my own caliper, never looking at the Aliexpress listings. This way you know that what I write or mention in the video is always the true measurements 😊
I did include all the measurements by text in the end of this video also, it is easy to miss because I didn't talk about it, but only had it briefly on screen

A great, cultured review carried out with a lot of expertise! I can agree 100% because I don't want to take my JianZhan off my wrist anymore! And in my opinion, this is the most important factor for a watch enthusiast: The joy of a watch! The dial of my orange version is overwhelming in the sunlight! The synthesis of craftsmanship, history and high tech is perfectly successful. The quality is at least comparable to my Swiss watches with the 1000 € price segment. I didn't quite understand, have all the dials on this watch been updated or just the red and orange ones? The blue version seen in the video looks great to me, I've seen other reviews where the smoked part of the applied indexes seems too dark to me, but I see that there is a link to the updated red and orange dials. If there are two versions of the blue dial I prefer the lighter one.

The orange and red dial versions has been updated to have less strong fume effect, hence being lighter in color.
The video I uploaded was of the chinese new year edition red and orange, they are still a bit different from the new orange and new red version of this JianZhan
@@RIOLOGY Ah, thanks! In that case the diference I saw in the blue sphere in some videos has ben due only to the effects of light falling on it, not to there being two sphere models, unlike the other two dials (red and orange)
@@joanjofre5736 that is correct, in some warm lights the dial can even look a bit turquiose almost, but in normal light it looks striking blue, an at an angle the fume becomes a bit stronger 😊
I'm more and more impressed with SM. I almost bought their summer diver, but I'm going to see how the brand evolves over time and get something special in the future (I feel the same about WISE in Thailand). Wait and see.

What about the strong arguments for quartz movements . I’m wearing a quartz watch that’s 7mm thick, light, accurate and doesn’t require frequent expensive visits for maintenance. I can see what you like about this watch though.

We need more options for high accuracy quartz movements to be used in microbrands before they're taken serious. The vh31 is like the only one that is decent. However, the better movements aren't available to show its true possibility of incredible quartz watches.

@@RIOLOGY I think Bulova makes some cool HAQ movements that have the same gliding sweep as the spring drive, but they put it in ugly watches. If a microbrand could buy the movements in bulk. It'd be a game changer. I've looked into trying to mod one, but it's almost impossible to buy the movements on its own. They have like 2 different movements like that, seiko has a HAQ movement they use for the Dolce line, that's would be nice to see in other watches. And citizen make some great HAQ movements too, only found in their The Citizen line of watches. If some of those movements could be put into microbrands, everyone would accept them.
This looks almost the same as the Straum I've been about to buy for $1500 less.. room for a few Seiko Presages too

Thanks for your review. Can you answer this question? Previous San Martin Bracelets used to have 3 perm links attached on either side. But I've noticed this new bracelet has 4 perm links. Does that mean on the 6'oclock side it is longer possible to only have 4 links? This is how i wear my current San Martin watches as my wrist is small. Wirh 5 links on @6 side, the watch wont sit centered on the bracelet for me.

San Martin make a good watch, but over the past 18 months the rest are quickly catching up. Soon they'll all have the same movements, lume quality, crystals and excellent finishing. The difference is... the rest are much cheaper. WatchDives for example have just swapped factories and their products are excellent now. San Martin aren't over-rated just yet. But they are over-priced. Soon, they'll be part of the pack with all the other Chinese factories. Full disclosure... I have 4 x San Martins and I have zero complaints except for pricing.
I like your reasoning, I have a Watchdives with me that has really impressed me on value!
But this video is focused on those who are looking for an original design, especially focused on typical swiss arguments.
I love WD, Cronos and many others, but they are not slightly original in their designs, I love have unoriginal designs too, dont get me wrong.
But when going with San Martins recent models, you are getting something unique that you can actually wear to a authorized watch dealer without feeling weird about it.
I do wear some blatant homages, but not everywhere 😊

Generally speaking, spending more gets better value (especially in a watch), but I 100% agree this is probably a highlight watch in its price range.

If it let’s say being an Oris watch, then this watch would’ve been at least 2500€ - 3000€. This is top notch quality and given its features like the Miyota calibre, the clasp, the screwed in bracelet links and of the course, that beautiful imaculate finishing of the polishing/brushing parts. I understand what you mean mate, it is indeed long, but it is to allow the on the fly adjustment mechanism which I find very much worth it because I use it all the time, especially now that I go out in the cold and back in to the heat inside all the time 😊

Ooohhhh... The bracelet is the part I love the most. Its design is very similar to the Interstellar khaky pilot, but you get no on the fly adjustment even for three times the price.

The only similarity to the Straum models is (perhaps) a dial finishing technique. I wonder if all the haters are knocking on all the doors of watch brands using Sun ray dials or fume dials or birch pattern dials. It feels like people are just set against San Martin as a brand. Honestly, how many wave dials are out there among microbrands?

I recently started looking into watches and I am kind of getting turned off from them because of the enthusiasts, I am amazed at how arrogant, simple minded and annoying most are. What I have gathered from watching watch reviews and reading the comments is that if a watch doesn’t have the following they are garbage; cost an arm & leg, made is switzerland, has to make the movement in house, if talking a diver can only be a Rolex maybe an Omega, has to have the absolute best finishing and materials and cannot be a homage in way.
I can afford expensive watches but would never pay an arm and leg for a brand name, hell the cheap Timex my mother bought me like 40 years when I was youngster and still working, Rolex fan boys make it sound like if you buy something else it won’t last.
San Martin is absolutely in my sights but after I buy a Nomos and Wise, I think that Wise offers better value than SM and just love the look of the Nomos I am eyeing.
@@msk3905 i know exactly what you mean, but there is a clear distinction between real watch hobbyists and watch snobs who just flexes their money trying to hide their bad selfesteem behind brand names. Generally you find the most humble enthusiasts shopping in priceranges under 1K. I can afford Rolexes too, right now, grey market, but I am not dumb, I buy gold and sell it when I can buy property. I'm not living in a rat race spending my money on hiding my self esteem 😭

But what surprises me is that the red coloured edition is much chipper, at least in the page coming along with the link. And thanks for your video. Probably the best bang for buck watch ever made. Genuinely. I got this one at launch and movement runs at +1. Finishing is as good or possibly even better than my Tudor and the dial is stunning. For the £200 I paid it shouldn't be possible. Only thing I can criticise is due to how slim the case is it's the worst rotor wobble I've ever experienced and I've had loads of Miyotas. Also the date is fractionally misaligned. It seems to be a manufacturing issue as every single one I've seen on UA-cam or Facebook has the same issue.

I dont experience the same wobble, a slight bit but that is when I try on purpose to shock the watch, I think that is because the movement is unidirectionally winding (having a free sprung direction). I have heard that it can vary from one Miyota to another.
And now that you mention it, I can see it, the date is slightly to the right side on some dates! Thanks for that now, I see it 😭

San Martin is promoted heavily online but every time I take a look on their site I fail to see the originality you are talking about - their designs are clearly inspired after everything that others have done traditionally and has been successful - Omega, Rolex, Tudor, GS, Citizen and so on; and boy they put out a watch for everything they feel deserves to be copied; are they bang for the buck? absolutely!! are they competing with the established swiss brands? not really; are they competing with some of the microbrands - yes; are they "original" in any way? not in my opinion;

Check up the Straum Jan Mayen or the Straum Opphav. The Dials are heavily inspired by those watches. I think San Martin is not quite there yet but there getting more unique nontheless

While both has a 3D pattern that is stretches from the pinion to the outer edges, they are very different in execution and different in inspiration.
The San Martins 3D pattern is more alike the natural occuring Jian Zhan structure and it is divided in "islands". The Straun is inspired by moss and we can see they have a groove-like pattern, almost like sand dunes, being much deeper than the San Martin.
Also the San Martin has more layers, first is the color of the dial itself, blue in this case, with an added layer of fume and lastly an enamel layer on top, making the dial glossy and ceramic like.
The Straum dial doesnt have the added enamel layer on top making it different in this regard aswell.
The inspiration is clearly taken from a different source than the Straum, and is connected with traditional Chinese culture.
Although, the Straum dial is very gorgeous and I would love to have one of those too!

@@LordFreak030 Hi mate 😊 The steel does not have any extra layer of hardness coating, it is 316L Stainless Steel. The crystal itself is sapphire so that should never scratch *in theory*

Yes that is true, the blue is sometimes turqouise in the outer edges depending on how the light hits the dial. It wasnt possible for me to catch that on camera for some reason

I like the Genève stripe finishing and 3 screw connection at the rotor, it reminds me of more expensive movements. And it looks so much better than the NH3X, Miyota 8 series and ETA2824 variants movements that Im used to seeing regularly.
If only it has a see through caseback and custom rotor it would look like a really expensive movement

back then swiss exported their bare bones watches to japan so the japanese could see how the swiss were doing their watches then eventually beat them at their own game. now the tides have come to china with their manufacturing actually assembling original swiss watches and shipping it back to the swiss. imo san martin is china's both feet at the door and it's exciting. time to get competitive again! not to mention timex is killing it as of late
@@royrichardellasos5332 I agree on this, most people should be introduced to the chinese watchmaking with watches such as San Martins or similiar brands to have a really good wake-up call to the current reality, which like you said is changing since back in times with Japan already once before.
It is currently, with swiss regulations, too easy to curcumvent the "swiss made" label and make quantitively the majority of parts in China, as long as you make 60% of the *costs* of parts in Switzerland. Have in mind that making a small and expensive part of the watch made in Switzerland and having the rest of the parts made cheaply in China can make this 60% cost requirement fulfilled very easily 😅
I think there are alot of smoke and mirror, however I do enjoy seeing European microbrands also taking a piece of this cake, offering a bit more expensive than Chinese, but not blatantly overcharging thousands of dollars per piece
I could really connect with you throughout the video, especially with the feeling of being proud of the watch you’re wearing (and the self-diagnosed ADHD 😅). I need a diver’s bezel in my watches so this watch you’re showing does not appeal to me, nor do the bright colors. I obsess with my watch matching my clothes so that blue is out of question. However, I’m impressed with what SM has achieved with this watch. I’m a fan of the brand, now more than ever. Thanks for sharing so many facts I ignored (history ones) that put the Chinese watches in a higher tier, at least in my mind.

I agree with that color, I can only match it to part of my wardrobe, but when I get a good match, then it really pops!
I appreciate Chinese watch brands that embraces their own culture, it feels like it comes with s real personality and not a fake one! It is easier to bond with the watch, even though it is superficial 😅 and Chinese culture is very rich to begin with, I hope to see more watches inspired by that in the future

Looks like a great watch. Wish they made it in a size for adults though. I wear anything from 41mm (Squale) to 73mm (Zlatoust), but at 39mm it's really more suitable for a child or Asian woman.
