    Dancing Queen is a celebration of youth and the joy of dancing. The song captures the essence of a young girl, only seventeen, who embraces the dance floor with confidence and freedom. The lyrics are meant to convey a sense of freedom and joy that comes with dancing. The song is about the pleasure that comes with letting loose and enjoying oneself.
    The phrase “turn them on” is referring to the ability of the “Dancing Queen” to captivate and engage the people around her on the dance floor. It’s about her charisma and the energy she brings to the dance floor, which “turns on” or energizes the people around her. So, in this context, “turn them on” is not meant in a literal or physical sense, but rather in an emotional or psychological sense. It’s about the power of music and dance to bring people together and create a shared sense of joy and excitement, certainly nothing sexual. These were simpler times and you need to remember this was a Swedish group where they perhaps didn't relate the term in a sexual way.

      The above comment is correct. There were all kinds of dance clubs where younger folks could go and no alcohol would be served. Plus I don't know what the culture is like in Sweden. Maybe 17 is a legal age in Sweden I don't know and neither do you. Don't be so judgmental. I'm old too I'm pushing 60 but I grew up listening to Abba
      Trivia info there were four founding members in Abba two guys whose names start with B. And two girls whose name started with A. That's how they came up with Abba

    Honey, this song came out in the mid-70s, and back then, we went and saw live bands in pubs at 14 or 15 and up. Here in Australia, we would easily get into pubs before the legal age of 18 back then.
    I miss those days!

    I agree with other comments down below here. People in USA are such strange Prudes ...
    I'm a 74 year old Swedish Grandfather and like to inform any US parents out there that in the 70:s and 80:s there were many Communal Youth Clubs, (UG/Ungdomsgårdar), in Sweden - Non Alcoholic mind You and free of charge. (Dancing Queen was released in 1976).
    Teenage kids could dance there to Disco or Live Bands, play Biljards, enjoy a "Fika" with soda and Cinnamon Bun and the Like and just having a great time wity their friends, any day and early night of the week. There were also Rehearsal rooms for budging Local Pop/Rock groups, No parental supervision - but a couple of Grown ups and/or "older" Youths blending with the kids showing them what the UG had to offer.
    The UG was a Very important place also for what was tho be called "The Swedish Pop Export Wonder". Many Musicians and Groups started their carreers there. (I think that the ABBA members are very aware of this fact and would agree with me.)
    So there You go - and dont worry so much about Your Teenager flirting, itś one of the Oldest Games on Earth - just ask Yourself what You Thought of as a 17 Year old Dancing Queen or King! 😅😇

    It's about disco in the 1970s. When you were 17 you didn't look for your future spouse. You just wanted to have fun and dance with the boys. It didn't have to be one boy for the whole evening. It's about dancing and not about finding a sex partner for the night.
    It makes me sad that you think that 1970s teenagers were so shameless and morally corrupt. It is possible to have just innocent fun at a disco.

      Agree that the song is about dancing and not about sex at all. But among teenagers in Sweden, many if not most have sex when they are 17, we stopped moralizing about it at the end of the 50s beginning of the 60s , so obviously 17 year olds had a lot of sex in Sweden in the 70s. But then again, the song is not about that at all, Abba was a clean band, fans of a Punk wave at the time that stood for the more equivocal lyrics.

    • @mikhalbruns2414
      @mikhalbruns2414 Місяць тому

      Italians and other peoples in Southern Europe always envied their Nordic neighbours for the openness and freedom when it comes to personal relationships and sex. So, some decades later, in 1996 Italy passed a law defining the whole matter; cases like sexual acts, harassment, rape and also the legal age for consensual sex. Based on that law a minor can start to have consensual sex with another minor at the age of 13, and with an adult at 14. Yes, you read that right, it's 14. As an exception this limit is raised to 16 when the minor has been somehow entrusted to the adult; as is the case for a driver, a sports instructor or trainer, a doctor or nurse, a teacher, etc. Below that limit acts are considered rape even if consensual. So referring to "When I Kissed the Teacher", another ABBA song that often scadalises Americans, a girl can have an affair, a love story, even sex with one of her teachers when she is 16 years old. This is morally reprehensible but there is no crime. And she can even have an affair or sex with a teacher in her school at 14, as long as he is not her own teacher. Let's say nothing about "Does Your Mother Know" 😀.

    ABBA are the initials of their first names. The ladies are the 2 A’s and the Men are are the 2 B’s. They released 2 new songs in the last 2 years using AI to make them look young again. They were big in Australia and I was married at 17, my husband was 22. ABBA was innocent and fun which was why I didn’t like them until I was older. I loved Hendrix and Joplin. They wrote the two Mama Mia movies and were in at least one of them or Benny and Bjorn were. They did stage shows they wrote that broke records after they stopped performing. It was the 70’s. Last week I sent my sons a photo of how we dressed in the 70’s, it wasn’t mine but we all dressed the same. My eldest asked me why my parents didn’t tell me to put more clothes on? We were so innocent it was stupid. I was a beach kid who lived on a surfboard and it was a really great time to be alive in Australia. I was allowed to go to the local Saturday night dance when I turned 14 but my parents dropped me off and picked me up. I still had an 11.00pm curfew until I was married.

    A very fun reaction 😅 ABBA is the most versitale popgroup in history and top 2 (after The Beatles) of sold albums in the world (almost 500M) and sang in 5 languages. This song is about freedom and lifeattraction to me, was a gigantic worldwide hit from 1976! If you want to listen to gems in the same attitude (even more in a sexappeal if you like😊) - check in hits like Take A Chance On Me, Mamma Mia, Voulez Vous?, Gimme’, Gimme’, Gimme’, SummerNight City and Lay All Your Love On Me - all tremendos. Probably you’ve heard some of them aswell even if U.S. wasn’t their most successful market. Australia, Europe and Latinamerica were back in the 1970th, now popular again everywhere. Their breakthrough was 50 years ago in the largest musiccompition in the world called Eurovision in 1974 with Waterloo. Why don’t you check it in? - I will follow your journey in this fantastic rabbithole with gems everywhere 💎

    ABBA is ONE of the forefather’s of the Modern Pop Music. From Madonna to Lady Gaga, from Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N’Sync to Kate Perry or Taylor Swift, a lot of their lineages can be traced back to Swedish Pop music, which has it’s roots in ABBA.
    Max Martin (Swedish) co-wrote and produced from Britney’s "Hit Me Baby One More Time” to Taylor’s "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" for example. ✌️

    I guess it's different here in Sweden,. Sometimes we have/at least had then I was a boy in the 70-80-ties disco in school. We're not talking about danceclubs for grownups like the ones in the states. And it's nothing unlegal or seemed as strange with an 17 year old girl being ni love with a boy at a similar age. In Sweden the limit for ... is 15 years old. But I think they are singing about a king on the discofloor not a lover. I believe it's a cultural missundestanding.

    Oh CVTeck This was the dance music through my teens. It's great. You have to listen to more of their music. Feeling very nostalgic and remembering a lot. Thank you ❤🎉 Watch Mama Mia movies - they are based on ABBA music. Cheers Deb

    I was 16 yrs old when this came out, no problem to go to the 'disco'!! Obviously in this day & age it's virtually impossible to have a 16 yr old girl dancing - so dangerous!! Such a shame. 😥

    At least I had plenty of "friday disco" evenings at schools as a teenager here in sweden. Quiet common thing from even 4th grade. It was popcorn. Candy and music. First in 7th to 9th grade it might be flirty. But no alkohol...and never very late at nights. And to give an agerange on when we are OF AGE its 15 here.

    Many times American culture amaze me. I am 66 now, this is the music I danced on around that age of 17. . No double meaning in the words in that time nor now here in Europe. I know you do not mean it like that. But since I have time (retired) to dive into different cultures and specifically America (been over there 7 times in different states) it seems like my grand fathers brother who emigrated between the two world wars and the culture he took with him stayed the same. And I do not mean at all that times didn’t ‘t change and that sometimes these days things can get over the top but ….. since the French revolution Europe has a strictly seperation of religion and state and that reflects In our culture. The difference is great. Once we dreamed of living in the states, I would not be able to adapt these days. I do not mean do offend you but as I travelled the world in my life time, several continents, I do not get Americans and the influence religion still has. Love nature over there and on an individual basis, person to person I am sure to make some friendships ❤

    😂 This came out in the 70s, those were more innocent times. And less politically correct/conscious. This was a teenage dancing anthem, the teasing is supposed to be for the dance floor - dancing together but not hooking up with anyone, hence the "tease" as in a flirt. (with other teenagers)
    At 17, it's ok. 🤭 Esp back then, but today too, let's face it. Anyway, I don't get why the comments here are so offended. Good reaction👍

    in sweden when you turn 15 your (byx myndig) leagal to have sex but it is very frowned upon for older guys and girls to be with people
    younger than 18. but it is kind of a gray zone if you are 18 and you sleep with somone that is 15 you can still get prosecuted

    • @tangfors
      @tangfors 2 місяці тому

      No, you can't given it is consent off corse. If the person is 14, then you can, however, two 14-year-olds can have sex without any punishment from the justice system. What is a dark gray zone is, say, an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old, there a court probably makes an assessment, if there is consent, I would say that they would most likely acquit, if one party were, however, say over 20, he/she would probably be convicted .
      But even if there is consent and in theory it is legal for a 45-year-old to have sex with a 15-year-old, society does not consider it okay. And for example if the 45-year-old would take a picture of the 15-year-old even if there was consent during sex it is a child pornography offence. Also, If someone who is 18 years of age or older has sex with someone who is under 18 years of age and exposes them to abuse, it is classified as child rape and entails an additional increase in punishment.
