@@CVTECK1yes, she's a lovely, genuine, empathic person. Her husband is also a jewellery maker. Check out her videos where she records the sounds of the Winter lake ice overnight...its amazing the sounds the ice makes. Her videos are very relaxing to watch. A special one is her video where lots of people from around the world made small videos telling people in the world the one thing that they thought was valuable in life, and Jonna compiled them all....very emotional and heartfelt. Enjoy binge watching her channel. Her videos are my stress reliever.

Due to the 23,5 degree tilt of Earth's rotational axis you can experience the midnight sun and polar night in any place north of the polar circle 66,5 degree north.

All real. All very real. It's all because the earth tilts on its axis. Thats why even in America the summer day are longer and in winter there is more darkness. The amazing thing is because the skies are so much clearer, the night skies in the burbs and countryside are literally otherworldly. The wilderness of Scandinavia is so amazing.

I believe that she lived in the middle of Sweden when filming this, there's around 400 miles to the northernmost tip of the country from there.
It's a bit funny, but more than half of Sweden (almost 2/3s) is called the North.
Sweden is basically located as far north as Alaska.

I grew up further up north then where Jonna lives, and I have to let you know, that growing up there, means that for us, its normal with the 24/7 sunlight in the summers and pitch black days in the winters, cause that is what we grew up with :)
I moved to the south of Sweden and live there now, and I can easily adjust to the more "normal" days ... but living up there, I never even thought about ...

With regards the changing day length, even in the south of England where I live, in mid winter it is dark by 4:00 pm (16:00) whereas in mid summer the daylight can last from just after 3:00am (03:00) until past 10:00 pm (22:00). The further north (or south) you go, the more extreme these contrasts.

I am way South of Sweden in UK, so we have short days, long nights in Winter and Longer days, shorter nights in Summer,, the Sun goes around the Equator where it is strong and bright the further North or South you go the weaker it becomes... I love her video and I love watching people react to it. It is a very real and very beautiful representation of life in the North. The earth is slightly tilted on its axis as it spins, so when the North is tilted towards the sun (summer) there is always light and the opposite in the winter, when it is tilted away from the sun. Thank you for reacting.

Welcome to my corner in Sweden, living little noth from where Jonna lives.
The chang of light in spring may mess you up for a week or two. I sleep more in the winter and less in the summer and wake up earlier because of the light but also get energi ed by the light and warm weather. Living up north all your life you are used to it but other may struggle and some people get depressed. My solution when getting tired of winter (still having 1 m of snow in mybackyard) is to do chores and hobbies in the house keeping myself occupied during the day. In summer the same but outsider. Living pretty much like Jonna in a small village (28 inhabitants). Fishing, foresting, hunting and growing our own veggies.

On my way home in Sweden after a month of backpacking around Europe I was on the ferry between Germany and Sweden in late June. It was around 6am and the sun was up and contrasting clouds making them truly deep purple. I felt like home, but a South African backpacker on the ferry thought it was the end of the world because she had never experienced the sun that early, that certain glow and those contrasting clouds. It really is special.

Before light pollution was a thing in most places then especially during the long and very dark winter nights of the far North the Milky Way was very visible. It’s a band of light stretching across the sky. This band (the most apparent part of our galaxy) is called ”Vintergatan” or ”Vinterbröt” etc in Scandinavian. So the ”Winter Way/Road” (stretching over the night sky) since you can only see it during the winter part of year in the far North. During this time it is magnifically clear to see and often blends in with the Aurora Borealis so the Northern Lights. It truly looks like an illustration out of a fantasy novel. Very otherworldly.

It is real time mate, just as it is light 2.19 AM too in the summertime look at a map and you will see why and ofc the axial/tilt int relation to earth's rotation around the sun. Now we come to the topic of looks always sensitive but most people in scandinavia have blue eyes and that is the adaption to low light since blue eyed people see much much better in the dark and brown eyes see much better in strong sunlight, and ofc skincolor follow the strength of the sunlight too the ability to absorb and store D-vitamin during the summer months and light skin is better at that but not good to protect itself from getting sunburned if you look at someone in between from Greece they often have mixed eye color much darker skin than a Swed but much lighter than a Sub-Saharan African person so this is the simple reason we all look different it is just Mother Earth/ environment we have ro live in to survive the best aka survival of the fittest and not as many think it is survival of the strongest it is this simple elementary biology. That is why my time living in Sweden ws hard I am from Southern Greece and my skin could not get enough sunlight so even that Sweden is very beautiful many of us coming from the south are more depressed than the fair skinned Scandinavians, At the same time I do not get sunburned easily as do my Swedish friends when they visit me in Greece.. It is the pigment melanin and the amount you have that give you your skin color a darker skin more melanin repels ultraviolet light better and fair skin absorb light better due to less melanin. I know it is a bit nerdy but I am a biology UNI teacher. But you must visit Sweden or Norway or both they close if you have the possibility if it the Northern lights you want to see go in winter time January for midsomer sun in late June both are unforgettable, here in Greece it is much like the south of the USA so no need to go here for that contrast but we do have the famous white cliffs in azure blue waters of the Mediterranean sea if that takes your fancy and it is much much cheaper than in Sweden/Norway. But if money is tight go far North where you are Alaska, Northern Canada and look för the same latitude on a world map and you will experience the exact same conditions as Sweden upper half of Sweden this is the south will not give you the Northern lights so check your latitude carefully and dress for extreme cold like minus 25-30 celsius and that is -13 to -22 fahrenheit but it can get much colder than this during the winter, I hope you got some useful information, Cheers from Greece/Sweden. In Sweden Northern part and of the main Grid you can get the survival feel but this is even more prevalent here in Greece since it is much much poorer than the Nordic/Scandinavian countries but Greece outside of the main cities it is a real struggle trust me I know, one of the reasons I left the countryside in Greece was because we always had food shortage especially during the civil war. But ofc if you have money you can always get by even here in Greece (now for me but not when I was a child).

You've probably got a bunch of explanations in the comments already, but the reason for Sweden, as well as Norway, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Canada and Greenland, have such differences in light conditions in summer and winter is because all these countries have the arctic circle running through them and at and above that it is always like this. This is because of how the earth is tilted and is distanced from the sun while spinning around it.
I live in Gothenburg in southern Sweden, and we have light differences here too during the different seasons, but we never get the midnight sun or the polar night down here. In winter the sun usually rises at around 9 in the morning and sets at around 3 in the afternoon, and in summer it rises at around 4 in the morning and sets at around 10 in the evening.

I personally think it's caused by the increase of unhealthy lifestyle and bad habits. It's easier to prescribe medication than it is to get a person to change their entire lifestyle. In my country medication isn't expensive, and doctors don't get paid by medication so they aren't gaining anything from prescribing more, it's just more affective to give people medicine to deal with the symptoms of their unhealthiness rather than get them to address the root of their problems.

So, are you able to go shopping in winter? Or is it completely impossible to drive a car in these snowy conditions? Is it really possible to stack up enough food to survive the winter? I mean I know people had to do that for all of mankinds history but nonetheless it is so hard to imagine this in our spoiled times.
And what about people with other jobs? Not everyone can work from home like Jonna...
      I have so many questions.

Not trying to be rude, but some people's ignorance of basic realities of the world is actually kind of stunning in a world full of access to knowledge, you almost have to go out of your way not to know that arctic and antarctic regions have daylight extremes in summer and winter.

You know what you know, there's plenty to learn. There's billions of these that one person knows that you don't have a clue about and to them it might be common knowledge. It happens 🤷‍♂️

I was thinking just the same - but then again, I have long time since realised that the American school system seems to be quite inferior to the most countries in the world. Thus I am not blaming the individuals but the system that does not provide their citizens with basic knowledge of things outside the U.S. Then again, Alaska is part of the nation and has similar conditions to Northern Sweden, so it would be known also by U.S: citizens. Just saying.

There is no such thing as ‘‘2 in the morning’’, it's either 2 o'clock in the afternoon or at night.

@@CVTECK1 so night time is not a thing in the US then? .... If you lot don't even get taught the clock properly the American education sysyem is truly the worst in the world, no offence.

Actually Mr pedantic using your own logic to make you look more of an id.iot when it's light at 2a.m how is that the night? Or did you mean why hasn't he learnt your local clock where YOU live. There is no set global day and night time. Ironic when the meaning of morning is when the sun shines, and in tje video you're looking at the sun at 2a.m. Not as smart as you think you are now are you

@@laziojohnny79 it's just a linguistic thing. In the US they say 2 in the morning to mean 2 at night. After midnight it becomes early morning! It's just a difference in how to express it. This is probably due to farmers in the past having to get up at around 4am to start work, so that would be morning. Therefore calling 2am morning as well isn't that extreme.

@@wiiboiwill It is not a linguistic thing nor an American thing, some people tend to say that in Europe too. It might derive from farmers, fishermen or bakers, the fact still remains that a day has 4 parts, each of which has 6 hours and all those 4 have a name; night, morning, afternoon and evening. It's a dumb phrase and adds no value, quite the contrary; it's linguistic poverty and degration. It's as retarded as 11 in the afternoon or 4 in the evening.
