I learned to play the flute in the 6th grade (1981). Kept going into high school and marched in the band, so much fun. After i graduated, I played some but it eventually ended up in a closet. I moved it with me throughout the years until 5 years ago when a house I lived in developed water damage from a leak and the worst was in a closet that my flute was stored in. As we were moving out, I didn't even bother taking it with because I figured the water had ruined it. Last year I bought a new flute but because it's been so long since I played regularly, I feel like a beginner and relearning how to play. I remember when I was learning how to play all those years ago, my dad tried to get me to change to the clarinet but I insisted on learning flute. Then I found out in high school that it's one of the hardest instruments to learn. The toughest for me back then and now is getting a good sound out the instrument.
Flutecookies I had two weeks to learn EVERYTHING, I didn’t even know how a flute looked. Two weeks before my first concert, my mom had transferred me to band🥺 But on the brightside it inspires be to become better watching your channel💜 I love your covers they are always so good.
Kîmŷøñá you’re supposed to sit if it’s band practice because there’s so many people :) but if you’re doing practice by yourself at home then make sure you do it standing! 😉
@@Flutecookies Alright I will!! These tips really helped me by the way! Your really inspiring and I always hoped to become an amazing flutist like you! All your covers are awesome! 😇
Yehey!!! I'm playing a dizi but now I finally realized my mistakes that before I thought it was just normal. Thank you for these videos more power to you🙂🙂
So basically, I'm going to start flute in my middle-school band. I am really happy to know these tips! However my dad keeps trying to get me to do clarinet because its "more versatile". That is true but still I insist on learning flute.
That isn't true 😝😝😝 ( "or is not true"..) I don't know the correct way to say it, I speak Italian and roumanian.... English is not my first language 😟😟!!!
I came across this by accident I am an intermediate player. When I first learnt I could still stand up I now can’t and have to sing and play sitting down and I can still do it. Some people do not have the choice of standing up (I’m disabled) if anyone else is please don’t let it put you off you can train your diaphragm accordingly! Other than that awesome video.
I’m in band class, and since I’m still in elementary school, the teacher says we can’t stand or walk around with our flute in our hands, so we have to sit...
When I started playing flute for first time my teacher made us sit. After 3 years I quit flute because I wasn't interested anymore. I am thinking getting back into it. Edit: your tips are very helpful
I appreciate your tips and advice, however I'm not physically able to stand for long periods of time. Sitting is the only way I can play the flute. Does this mean I can't play the flute?
Obviously it doesn’t mean that. Stand until you can’t or don’t stand at all. Just make sure you’re sitting up right - the point is to ensure your diaphragm is able to open completely. Breathing control is a crucial element of playing an instrument such as a flute.
You should see pt. Hariprasad chaurasia.... He hold flute at really a steep angle and he is one of top flautist. Pls respond to this comment. I am a falutist too so i want to know
but I've noticed James Galway doesn't hold it in a 90° angle, he holds it rather low. From the short interviews I've seen of him, I imagine he would say something like "just do it the way that feels most comfortable to you" XD he seems pretty chill

I loved your video and it really helped me
I'm a beginning band student and my band teacher makes us sit.

Very very helpful! Thank you for the tips! Ill be mindful of my playing & my posture. 😁 more please!
Thanks for this. Kind was hitting a roadblock on tone improvement and it turns out my posture and lack of proper use of the diaphragm was 80% of it.

Ireally love the sound of it🥰

How much time it takes to learn playing flute?
Found the sound of flutes more and more attractive to me after subscribed this channel 😭.
My fingers are over the place. That and rhythm are my biggest problems.

Antonio's Instrumental was totally intentional ;)
Thanks for this keep it up and love from India 😘😘😘
I only found about lifting the fingers too high pretty recently. I was so annoyed that I didn't know about it before.
Thank u
Hey can you tell me how many years did it take you to get your degree in flute?! Please
I appreciate your tips and advice, however I'm not physically able to stand for long periods of time. Sitting is the only way I can play the flute. Does this mean I can't play the flute?

Same for any instrument to keep your fingers close to the instrument.

How long have you been playing the flute because i've been playing for year and im not nearly as good as you
She played for a lot of years, that's why she's so good. But if you keep practicing with effort and time you will learn how to play it perfectly!
but I've noticed James Galway doesn't hold it in a 90° angle, he holds it rather low. From the short interviews I've seen of him, I imagine he would say something like "just do it the way that feels most comfortable to you" XD he seems pretty chill

No wall at home💀
