Hopefully now that they are working together again some of that positivity will wear off on Maynard he just seems very negative lately. Not that Maynard was ever a happy go lucky guy.
- Jai I met one time after a show through a friend of mine and chatted with him for like 15 minutes after he signed my concert poster. He’s such a cool guy. Real down to Earth and easy to chat with.
Love to jam with him I like how he can do so much with simple guitar rhythms, like you don't have to be virtuoso guitar player to jam with carey yet his drumming is virtuoso it's what makes tool unique.
This man understands what each piece of his set is for, the sound it makes, the time that is right for each hit, etc. This guy is literally like a walking, eating, breathing drum machine.
To have ppl call you the greatest drummer ever (and he knows he is), he stays humble. It must be a real pleasure and privilege to be his friend and keep his company. A gentle giant with stupendous talent and a big heart. 🤙
I remember hearing Undertow when I was kid and becoming obsessed with Danny's playing. It was at that point that I made a life decision to be the best drummer I could. Danny Carey more or less became my idol.
Yeah, I met him and Adam at a Peter Gabriel concert in 2012. He towered over me. But then again I am a small guy that is 5'6", so he was like a giant to me.
i love how they bleep "kicking ass" but not "as i claw your fucking throat away" during the clip from Pushit. if you listen you can clearly hear maynard say that.... awesome.
Every interview I've seen of him he's always got that happy smile on his face. So not only an outstanding drummer in an outstanding band. He's a all round good person by his interviews anyways
Danny has such a refreshingly humble view of the musical experience. I love how he calls their shows “gigs” like they’re playing to ten people at a dive bar when they’re actually selling out 20,000+ person arenas in major cities.
Humble indeed. I love how he says they sold out the staples centre 2 nights in a row and still refers to it as a "gig". "What are you doin' this weekend Danny?" "Oh you know just goin' down to the local stadium and playing a little gig... infront of 18,000 people... Twice."
I love watching him play. It is all about the music.......As I was watching this three part interview I kept thinking of other drummers like Tommy of CRÜE, while many are great drummers, they are all about self and image. I truly appreciate how grounded Carey is when he performs and in general. I think that comes across in his sound.
this man took not just metal drumming but just drumming itself to a new level, the more you study him the more you realize just how amazing he is, using metaphysics, science and geometry in drumming is just godly. he is my major inspiration

Danny is so talented he plays 2 and 3 beats at different timings. It took me a while to appreciate his style but I have followed him since Green Jell-O or Jelly. I was completely in love with his playing since Opiate.
The first time I saw Danny play the drums it through me off because I was so used to watching metal drummers that were all tensed up and he plays with such fluidity and the relaxed vibe of a jazz drummer.. He really is imo one of the best musicians in the industry..
Nobody can compare to Danny!! He literally is so chill......He is doing life the right way...fml....take a lesson y'all....nobody can touch this ..A MASTER AT WORK....LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MAN!!!
Side note....I actually stood backstage and argued with him..about being danny carey..i wasnt convinced ...lmao...wow....it really was him and he is next level nice guy... Im an idiot ...but he is the real thing !!! Those drumsticks though......... Yup
Didn't know he is from Lawrence, KS. I don't exactly enjoy the city, but I love the water bodies. I fish at Clinton lake or Wakarusa river very often. Good to know that a legendary musician was born local. Thanks for your music Danny.
Had to move to Florida the summer before my sophomore year. The first kid I ever met (who to this day is my best friend) turned out to be a very close family friend of Danny's. That was in 2002. Since than, I've seen Tool 4 times, all access. Got to share a few beers and talk drums with Danny. I'm on borrowed time at this point guys. :-)
I wonder what kind of person that a one of a kind super artist is in person? Turns out, it is a super cool, humble, and genuine person that can play drums too. Danny Carey is the man.
I love Tool and the way they push rock music foward on their own unique way. DC is one of the reasons why the band sounds that tight and to me he is one of the best rock drummers of our time. He´s like the modern John Boham .....
I have never seen a drummer that has more independent limbs than Dan! Its absolutely mind boggling to me....and im a goddamn drummer! Im incredibly jealous of him in the best way possible.
this man's on another level of heavy metal drumming. not just mindless blast beats and double bass kick rolls, you actually have to have some talent to play this stuff.
I love his signature sticks...before I ever even started drumming I saw them and examined how they were tapered and had the little beveled grip area. And being a swordsman/knife person who has studied the effects of balance on knives and swords for years and years I immediatly bought my drummer a pair...he loved them. Now that I play drums, I use nothing but the Danny Carey Sig wood tips...BEST sticks ever!!
Wow, awesome drummer, I super love his set up, it looks incredibly comfy. What kind of tom's does he have there?, they don't have shell's do they? Roto-toms maybe? Electronics incorporated into the kit too, awesome.
Yeah, he said they were Roto-toms since he enjoyed the more dry sound they put out. I love the placement of his Hi-Hat. I never really cared for the crossed arms thing, so I am going to try that setup on my kit.
Yes, I am having some trouble with the Hi-Hat crossing over thing myself. It's just I have played that way all of my life, and now I have neck pain and I think that's what's causing it to a certain extent. I think I may try it myself, it just looks so comfortable.
Thanks Cody, you hit the nail right on the head with that statement. I always have a huge amount of trouble when even changing the height or angle of my tom's, cym's, etc. So, now to 'totally' reinvent so to speak, the hi-hats would or is going to be a disaster for me, I think. However, if it helped the neck pain and shoulders, spine, low back and hips??? I know I need a very good throne, but I just can't afford what they want for a freaking "good" throne these days. $ 400.00 tax inc., for a good throne these days. That's ridiculous man, I can see $ 250.00 or maybe $ 320.00 at most, but man. All gear is actually ridiculously priced these days 'and' we are just paying of a name and not the actual gear. Anyway, I'll shut up about that now and just say thanks to Cody again, for making sense in a very confusing world that we live in these days. Wow, how many times did I use, 'these days' here, ??? "LoL". God Bless and take care all.
Just give it a real good and honest attempt. If you can't get back into your movement after 3-4 weeks of a major repositioning then try easing into it inch by inch, week by week. As far as the physiological issues, the best advice anyone can give you is going to be over posture. Your knees should always be at least level (preferably, an inch or so higher than) your hips, which can be a little awkward for some people depending on their kick; causing cramps in the shins/calves and whatnot (definitely take changes in posture inch by inch). Also, a good posture reference for your back and neck would be to stand with your butt, heels, shoulders, and head against a wall/door; this position is the healthiest possible posture you can keep, as it moves your center of gravity back a bit and takes that forward weight off your neck and back muscles, allowing your throat, chest, and abs to share the load. Just to clarify: while standing, back to the wall, your heels should be touching, your butt should be touching, your shoulder blades should be flush against it AND your shoulders should be completely relaxed so they are also just touching, and your head should be resting against the wall with your chin up a bit. Get in this position, and if you're properly relaxed, you will have quite a forward arch in your lower-back/lumbar region with your upper body's weight over your tail bone instead of over your bellybutton. Your shoulders will be down and relaxed, and your chest will be out; but, even though it might not feel comfortable at first, it 'should' feel natural. Your weight should be equally distributed between your front and your back, and it should feel like your center of gravity runs right down the middle of your neck, down the front of your upper backbones, the back of your lower backbones, the front of your tailbone, and straight down the middle of your hips and legs. Do this often and try to commit that position to memory and use it even while sitting, which should have you sitting more on your hamstrings and less on your asscrack. Oh yea, and don't forget the knees thing I mentioned during my first paragraph like 2 years ago lol. Sorry for the lengthy response, I figured you might get some use out of it. They failed to tell us just how athletic and health conscious we'd need to be... to be a musician.
Man that guy hits drums hard. Still breaking drum heads with sticks he designed (broke one at the show the clips in these videos are from) "50 years old and he broke his drum head, years of cocaine and booze paying off" said Maynard as it was changed. He makes it look so easy I attempted to buy a mandala online, it would drive me further into debt, and I still cant afford it - he just constantly inspires me making it look like cake.

He is playing gigs tho. You clearly didnt listen. Its in studio city cali. Its not a show its a gig. In other words its not vegas

I had the pleasure of meeting Danny Carey at Lolapalooza many years ago. Total champ dude and amazing drummer!
Danny Carey is a savage beast which he proves while playing Ticks And Leeches. What a great band.

I love his laugh when he's going through the jerseys. And yes, I do use his signature sticks. I don't think they'll ever break.

Danny Carey seems like an awesome person.
Danny Carey seems way to normal and nice to be the greatest drummer of all time.
