There was an episode where Janeway went down to the absolute lowest decks and didn't know her way around, having to ask a crewmember for directions. Always thought that gave a good idea of just how large these ships are internally.
@@WoodysAR not true actually, Kirk had to ask directions on the refit, and the D was large enough anyone could get turned around, its almost as if they used the same 3 or 4 sections of corridor set for every part of the ship! As for Archer, we'll the NX was tiny and he literally helped build it, but don't worry, theres plenty of other flaws to abuse Archer over.
i was always aware that Voyager was not a small ship, but i never had a very strong grasp of its interior space; this video has been an incredible help in that regard.
Yeah, Voyager was a legit proper ship. Would love to see the Nova class for comparison (remember the episode 'Equinox', when Voyager runs into anothe stranded Federation vessel? The one comitting alien-murder to fuel their way home?) or the Defiant. Now those are small ships.
@Jonny F that's extremely common actually, the Gallileo shuttle interior is way to large compared to the exterior set model. There's easily standing room inside for Nemoy who is over 6 feet tall but the exterior prop only has about 5 1/2 feet of space. Discovery finally canonized this by making the 31st century shuttles canonically larger on the inside than outside.
Things I learned from this video. Cpts quarters are the big set of windows pointing fore. Mess hall is the small set of windows above it. Not sure why but always imagined it to be the reverse. Sets of recessed windows in engineering hull are just offices. Always imagined them to be engineers quarters. Cargo bays are huge. Knew they’d have to be large but never imagined they’d take up such a sizeable portion of primary hull. Unused Aerowing footage. Okay, now my mind is blown as I’d never seen that before. That’s just too cool for words… Still cannot believe the captains quarters are larger than the space given to the main mess hall used by the whole ship. I’d move them and place them directly behind the ready room with an adjoining door between the two. The rear observation lounge seems a little superfluous given that it’s so far away and not reachable directly by turbo lift. Id turn it into an intimate bar/restaurant. The kind that comes with a waiting list.
I forgot what the name of the episode was but I remember where we saw the Captain's private dining hall on Voyager but when Janeway came inside she found Neelix had turned it into a galley and I think it stayed that way throughout the shows entire run.
Yeah, that space was for ambassadors, dignitaries, and starfleet admirals to dine when they came aboard. It was pretty large compared to Capt. Jonathan Archer tiny private dining that barely could hold Trip and T'Pol as guests.
If I had to guess like the Captain's Ready room the Captain's private dining hall would be a place where he or she could relax while having private meals to themselves though with the Captain's Ready Room on the Intrepid Class looks more like the Captain's quarters with how big the room is I mean it looks like you could fit 2 or 3 Captains Ready Rooms from a Galaxy Class Starship in there it was that big.
There is several references to the mess- when voyager left spacedock it didnt have an officers mess, it was due to be installed when they returned from the badlands Chakotay says on the 2 nd episode, it is suggested they convert a cargo bay to fill that need. When Neelix creates the kitchen janeway demands to know what happened to her dining room and Neelix tells her they created the mess. That room is on a outer wall not facing forwards but to port side and contains the kitchen, larder, prep room and a substantial dining room that converts to medbay, concert hall etc etc. it is nothing like those two examples given
Nice made... BUT some things don't fit... 1. Each deck looks different... there is no sign that there are turbolifts connecting the decks. 2. In the lower levels the space for the retrackable landinggear is missing. 3. Cargo rooms are totaly forgotten. At the outside view there was told that there are some access points for cargo/supplies at the bottom... where are they in the inside and where are the storage rooms for them. 4. The warp core engine room should be at least 2-3 decks high. The ejectable warp core itself (outside view) seems to be several decks high. 5. For the number of crew there are way to few quaters. Even if you put 4 per room in two shifts, the rooms are to small... what would cause problems on long explorations. 6. From the TV Shows Star Trek Holo suites design seems to be two decks high no matter what ship or station you are. The artist might rethink some Design decisions. ... just saying
Remember the Delta Flyer was originally not a part of Voyager's shuttlecraft inventory as Tom Paris had designed the Delta Flyer from scratch and the ships engineering crew worked around the clock to build it as they were racing an alien race to recover one of Voyagers probes that became stuck in the atmosphere of a gas giant.
Big Ups to Alex for the Model work. They REALLY elevated the look & feel of this video, and of course the presentation and info provided is as always TOP NOTCH.
I appreciate the work put-in to fill-out these empty volumes. I must make a couple of nitpicks though in tried and true fashion. First, the side of the conference room is shown being used to leave without going into the bridge, so it can’t just be a wall. I propose it’s connected to the corridor out back of the bridge. They also occasionally show people leaving Janeway’s ready room and then being in the corridor behind the bridge too, so I think having some machinery there doesn’t make much sense, we can just have more corridor. Also, the plasma control room is on the outer edge of deck 15 rather than in the middle, and it’s shown to be smaller than in your model. Even though there’s clearly no real reason to have it be so small. Very thorough though. I actually hadn’t realised that the path from the warp core to the nacelles was so short on the Voyager.
When reading these schematic, it doesn't always follow the show directly. In addition, it is possible I may misinterpret the 2D schematic (which happen more often than it should) : ) , but I do appreciate viewers feedback regardless since I haven't watched the show in awhile.
Absolutely LOVE your videos @halfscreen!!! I really enjoy seeing these detailed breakdowns of my favourite starships. I greatly appreciate your hard work creating these graphics! Excellent quality!! However I have to agree with @kaitlynn_L, there are small discrepancies compared to the TV show as well as the computer game "Voyager - Elite Force". Having watched the show more than 7 times and played the game as many times, Voyager is like home to me :) I LOVE this ship :) Conference room and Ready Room both have turbolift access without going through the bridge as shown multiple times in the show. Officer's Mess and Captains Dining room are off scale and the shape of the room is wrong compared to both VOY and DS9 TV shows. Shape and size of the sickbay is way different than in the show and the game. And the corridor outside sickbay is always portrayed as a long straight corridor. Engineering is missing the left and right console areas facing the reactor core as well as the small consoles directly in front of the core. Deck 15 is missing multiple windows as shown on both the show and the game. Again I'm just nitpicking because Voyager is very close to my heart... hope you don't mind :)
Voyager has always been my favorite ship, its compact design, maneuverability, science and weapons capabilities, the doctors holo program, it's a well rounded very capable ship. I always imagined if I was a captain this is the kind of ship I'd want to command.
Just listening to and watching this and after hearing about the spare warp core that it's not a permanent replacement it's like with spare tires on cars.
I didn’t realize how much of the saucer section was taken up by the cargo bays. For some reason I always assumed they were in the engineering section but always had a hard time placing them because of how big they were. The episode where they put everyone in stasis pods finally makes a bit more sense now.
I remember the episode where we were first introduced to the Delta Flyer designed by Lt. Tom Paris and they showed the crew building the Flyer in Voyager's shuttlebay and it was in that same episode where it was discovered Belanna Torres was doing extremely risky stunts on the holodeck with the safeties shut off and it was Chakotay who discovered what Belanna was doing.
I’ve often wondered where the Star Trek producers find the kind of people to animate and create these 3-D images and obviously now I have figured out at least a partial answer they would hire you clearly you are passionate and do good work.
I loved the TOS Enterprise as my favorite starship of all sci-fi shows. The later iterations of it were all right, but never dazzled me as much. Voyager comes in a close second though. I love its sleek lines, compact feel, and aerodynamics. Great job of showing how it's laid out!
The layout on Voyager logistically make sense since it more aerodynamic (unibody), lack the interconnecting dorsal and not as top heavy as the older Enterprise.
Such beautiful and amazing visualization work! Only now discovering your channel and such a gift to the sci-if, fandom and trek lovers everywhere! Thank you!
You know it's funny that when I look at the warp engines of the Intrepid Class Starships they remind me of the engines on a Federation ShuttleCraft like the one the crew of the Enterprise D gave Scotty at the end of the episode 'Relics' and the one Worf piloted in the episode 'Parallels'.
Just finished the 7 seasons of Voyager. Greatest series just beaten out by TNG and the legend Picard himself. Surviving in the Delta quadrant would have been much easier with the Enterprise D's weapons and resources, but they made it. First 3 seasons suffered from Kes and bad writing, but the remaining seasons were acceptable. Congrats on the amazing walk through. Now it all makes a little more sense.
I never liked the official Layout for Deck 1. They used the back doors of the ready room and the conference room a lot but in the plans they just lead to toilets. That's why i changed it to have a corridor in the back when i had to come up with a version you can actually use.
Don't forget for Deck 1 the entire Bridge Module/Deck can eject from the ship in an emergency to act as a lifeboat. That's been the case on many science fiction series, dating way back. For example, there was a space pod on Lost in Space that we only got to see in a couple of episodes.

Warp core is incorrect. The plasma conduits run forward and back of the core, which means the room has an orientation of port/starboard not bow stern. You can see one run under the floor of the engine room

The captain of a modern carrier will also not know every last small corridor of the ship, as he is not there to be a tour guide.
That crewmember from the episode "Good Shepherd" was Tom Morello from the band RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.

@@possibly_a_retard Still not big enough to allow the Delta Flyer to pass through those shuttledoors.
I think our perspective gets skewed a little by the frankly totally ridiculously huge Galaxy class and it's insane internal volume.
There is blueprints around of each deck but nothing makes up for the video 3d
@Jonny F that's extremely common actually, the Gallileo shuttle interior is way to large compared to the exterior set model. There's easily standing room inside for Nemoy who is over 6 feet tall but the exterior prop only has about 5 1/2 feet of space.

I agreed. It's very nice and slick.
Appreciate the thought and effort put into these. They make these ships seem like actual space vessels instead of just fancy soundstage sets.
Finally, someone explains the layout of the main shuttle bay!!!
The Intrepid class has always been my favourite of all UFP ships. Even if it does look a bit like a warp capable clothes iron.

Nicely done I always love how much detail goes into each of your videos
Thank you very much Damian for the comment!
beautifully done!
So many observation rooms

Glad you enjoyed it
How the show didn't take advantage of the Aerowing ship, is beyond me...Have that with the Flyer? Solid little support team!
The episodes where we saw Voyager land on the surface of a planet:
The 37's
Basics part 1
Basics Part 2
The Q and the Grey
Demon
Dragon's Teeth
So well done. Always a pleasure to view!

The turbo lifts must work on some sci-fi tech that teleports you around the ship
it would save a lot if deck space haha
