That would need a ton of time and resources that STO didn't have in 2010 in order to match, at least now most ships or at least ones with show counterparts are getting human sized ceilings rather then have these cavernous expanses that seem to make you tiny in comparison to the ship you captain. But it indeed would be most fun to just roleplay your own adventures on amazingly recreated ships from the show both Federation and those of other factions. I adore Romulan Republic interiors especially their engineering deck, there is that one mission that even shows the armory of the RRW Lleiset which is amazing not to mention it's different aesthetic on top of the general interior.

There's some fantastically large and detailed ships you can crew in Star Citizen, not Star Trek universe but another more realistic human future. Nothing else gives the same freedom and feeling of exploring in detailed ships.

ther advantage of the Intrepid is, that it is relatively small (compared to the Galaxy etc) and still got the 7 season treatment, so we saw a lot more of the ship percentage wise compared to some of the other starship types of the glorious 80s/90s Startrek Era.

Absolutely gorgeous. The attention to detail is mind blowing - the Cooking With Neelix cook book in Janeway's ready room, the day of honour card, the Class 2 shuttles in their little hideaway under the main shuttle hangar, Neelix's ship. I noticed the 3 shells Demolition Man reference. I actually didn't notice the ultra wide view screen change at first because it seems to fit, it looks natural.
One thing I'm surprised about is how big Janeway's quarters and office are and how they're bigger than the mess hall. In the show, the mess hall looks big, spaceous, but compared to the captain's quarters it is small. I guess the captain needs her space, but Voyager isn't a huge Galaxy class ship and Janeway's office looks as big as Picard's.
And then, IIRC, Neelix's kitchen used to be the captain's private dining room as well. Utopia Planetia definitely spoiled the captain with the Intrepid class.
The bar/lounge under the flight deck on the stern, that was pretty cool. It looks bigger than the mess hall below the bridge. Looks like the sort of place to go after a long day of Delta Quadrant shenanigans, have a glass of some alien alcohol and stare out the back at the stars going by.

I suspect there's a hidden door or service hatch behind the bar that connects directly to the shuttlebay's maintenance pit via a short and dimly lit corridor, in finest speakeasy tradition. Perfect for smuggling hooch, or for clandestine makeout sessions when the captain has a headache and doesn't want to see any PDAs 😅

I actually know the answer to this… it sounds so stupid BUT….
It was the largest green screen tech available to the studio at the time, remember they had started building the set and the buying of the equipment 2 years before production. It is the same reason why DS9 had no “screen” full stop and why the movies had Voyagers screen size on the E’s bridge. They simply couldn’t get a more accurate & manageable green size in that day and age. The technology developed rapidly and within a few years had evolved. There was discussion repeatedly on Voyager about “what if the ship was so badly damaged it got a full refurbishment”, and could/ would an alien race help add technology to voyager? they always considered that alongside introducing the yacht. But it never happened. Instead they eventually settled for the smaller flyer as the capital purchase.
A larger green screen resulted in fuzzing and blur which they decided was unacceptable in the days producing it… this size was cost effective and produced the results they required. This was discussed at a show I went to in London where they had a panel about production of Voyager and what that taught them for Enterprise

That's insane. You're insane. I can't imagine how much work that took.
I've always loved Voyager for how clear its scale is, all the doors and windows and other details feel more defined and understandable because the ship is so small, especially compared to the Enterprise-D and E which technically have all the same features but are so immense it's kinda incomprehensible. Of course the Enterprise refit is about the same scale and has similar details and is frankly the better looking ship in my opinion (what a hot take!) but I still think Voyager outdoes it in this regard.

A few minor details aside, like the somewhat whierd colore of the table in the conference room, thios is just awsome! This model includes some sections I do not remember from the show that were fitting in like the original art department of the show had implemented them!
Respect for all the time, skill and dedication you put into this project! I'd love to see more ;)

Looks like the size of Ten Forward on a Galaxy class vessel. Really surprised it didn't get used all the time for shipwide events, unlike the much smaller Mess Hall. A redress of the TNG set could have accomplished a suitable stand in.

    Beautiful ship.
Absolutely horrible interior volume allocation though. I'm actually impressed that they made a ship 30% bigger in size (and about twice the displacement) then the modern aircraft carriers, look so small on both outside and inside. But that's what you get for having a luxury penthouse for every senior officer, panoramic windows, and corridors that could double as roads. Not to mention those high ceilings that basically cut the number of decks in half.
Btw one small nitpick - that secondary bay below, where you put Neelix's ship in - that's not a part of Voyager blueprints. That spot would be a lower part of Engineering or maybe cargo storage. Neelix's ship always docked in the shuttlebay.

It's wild how much bigger Janeway's view is compared to the mess hall.. and Janeway was also supposed to have a private dining hall before Neelix took it... and she was supposed to have a captain's yacht. Half the ship is her personal space xD

Nicely done. It all looked very believable and accurate. It had been a long time since I watched voyager, and there were a few places I wasn’t sure I remembered.

  • @stephenwakeman3074

In canon I think that if you were stuck in the Delta quadrant and your quarters were larger than the communal mess hall, you’d commission some work to use part of them for something functional. I’d feel bad having all that unnecessary space as a captain, when there are crew members sharing bunks. Having private quarters and more space as the commanding officer is fine, but that is positively bougie!

    • @keoki82
      @keoki82 8 місяців тому

On the contrary, the large footprint of the captain's quarters suits the narrative well and keeps with maritime tradition. The contrast between Janeway's space and smaller functional rooms is a reminder of hierarchy, and reinforces the chain of command for the crew on their long journey home. A retrofit of the space would be inefficient, and you'd just end up with smaller rooms again.

I really liked this, I always loved the general shape and feel of the Voyager. I like curvy ships more than the angular/tactical designs that are really popular now. Voyager was a wonderful visual upgrade to the Enterprise D because it really did feel like a ship built for practical day to day operations vs. the luxury liner sensation that the D gave off. It made the ship feel more realistic to me.
