  • When the intrepid vessel returned from its odyssey across the Delta Quadrant, it did so to a fanfare and celebration, but what happened after the series ended? Where did the crew go and what did these characters get up to? Let's look at some apocrypha and the canon to see what answers we have, from Prodigy's Protostar to the Handshake Tours of Lower Decks.

    I think the last episode of Voyager ended far too abruptly. They could’ve made a lot more out of the crew getting back to the Alpha Quadrant & being reunited with their loved ones, debriefing with Starfleet etc. Considering that was their ultimate mission for the entire series. It was almost like it was an after thought.

    I am still mad about what happened to Icheb. That was so heartbreaking to see. Always loved his character and I wish he had been developed more. I also wish the Borg girl child had stayed onboard, to continue her friendships with Icheb and Naomi.
    As for Naomi, I love imaging her having to deal with sporadic Tribble outbreaks on K7.
    But back to Icheb, Q Junior owed him at least one favor. Could have easily kept an eye on his wellbeing and saved his life at least once. Or at the very least ease his suffering... he didn't deserve such a tortuous death.

    I never understood how Harry was an ensign the entire run of the show. However, Tom was a lieutenant. Busted down to ensign again and then got lieutenant back before the end of the show. For Harry, unless Tom or one of the other senior staff had been killed off, there was no room for advancement. Tom had re-gained Janeway's trust and proved he wouldn't fuck up again. As for the Equinox crew, I've wondered that myself. I actually hated the way they ended the show. It was like, ok, what now guys??? Many times I've thought of different scenarios of what they did and how fast they must have been promoted. Harry being the first! It was awesome seeing Seven again on Picard though. It was a stupid decision from the writers and I've heard other ST UA-cam accounts claim that it was also a result of a bet between Brannon Braga and Beltran that he wouldn't let anyone kiss his girlfriend, who was Jeri Ryan at the time. So Braga put their characters together to win the bet. 🙄 Don't know if that's true, but it definitely makes that decision even dumber if it is.

Given that fact that she was assimilated around age 5, and spent so long in the collective, her human socio-emotional growth was severely stunted. Just look at the way she lightweight threw tantrums and pushed people out of her way like a bad-mannered child would in her early episodes as evidence. Even though biologically she was an adult and intellectually was a genius, developmentally she was a teenager at best by the end of Voyager's journey. So also, there's the super gross angle that Chakotay who was middle-aged by the end of Voyager was dating a very inexperienced woman with the maturity level of a teenager. He should have known better.
      But alas, I blame the writers' lack of sense for this idiocy. Chakotay’s not a mid-life crisis, he was just written that way.

      @@railroad5024 yep that's a good point. It's basically statutory r*pe. The reason that doing that to kids is highly illegal isn't because of their height/size or anything like that. It's because they are mentally underdeveloped, and so they don't understand the consequences, and can be easily manipulated by adults into doing things they don't really know what to do, and so they can't legally consent, even if they think they actually want it to happen, they don't know, because they're confused and easily tricked. That's why it can still be statutory r*pe even if the person is an adult physically, if they're severely mentally disabled and so have the mind of a child. 7 of 9 never really left childhood. She barely knows how to have a conversation with an adult, let alone have sex with them.
      And it just gets even more creepy when you see things like her and Naomi Wildman being best friends. That was put in the show to show everyone how old 7 of 9 was, development wise. We were meant to see her as really basically the same as Naomi. Both are incredibly smart. But they're still young children.

    • @railroad5024
      @railroad5024 2 роки тому +17

      @@duffman18 yeeeeaahhh I wouldn't go as far as to label it statutory r-pe. In my mind, Seven had the maturity of a teen like 17-19 years old by the end of the show. So not quite as socio-emotionally underdeveloped to not know what she was doing and be unable to consent, but enough to make it highly inappropriate for Chakotay to entertain her romantic advances anywhere past her "social experiment". I like to think of Chakotay as a character with lots of integrity, so I would hope he wouldn't manipulate her into doing things she wasn't ready for. But at his age, he'd probably be wanting more from relationships than people who are just beginning to experience dating aren't ready for yet. At least that how he tends to get written in post-Endgame "fixer-upper" fan fiction lol. I think there was plenty of other young ensigns/lieutenants/crew on that ship writers could have had him pursue since Janeway kept herself off limits. Jor, Marla (from equinox crew, and bonus points she blonde lol), Henley, or Nicolletti for example. All probably quite younger than him, but likely experienced enough that they wouldn't be so vastly unmatched maturity wise.
      Plus in my head I'm holding onto the books that say they broke up like a couple weeks after Voyager returned and refuse to think that Chakotay and Seven were together long enough for her to get to the point of requesting to "experiment" in that activity 🤮. Anybody who says otherwise is **puts hands over ears** 🎶 LA LA-LA LA-LAAAAA I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUUU!🎶 lol 😆

    If memory serves, Seven of Nine was supposed to make a cameo appearance in Star Trek Nemesis as Admiral Janeway's adjutant. If accurate it would suggest that Seven received a Starfleet officers commission.
    In Alpha canon it is stated that once Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant it was converted into a Museum to exhibit the discoveries the crew made in on their journey home. After finding out that they’d have to pay the original creator of the Lacarno character every time is first or last name was used, they decided to make him an original character.
    The actor (Robert Duncan McNeill) even said he knew about it, and was upset they changed the character. He said he tried to talk them into a reveal at the very end that he had been Lacarno all along, and his fake name/story was just a cover so the people on the ship wouldn’t blackball him for being responsible for the death of a cadet and cover up, but they denied his request.

      Captain Sir Thomas Cochran, member of Parlement was kicked out of the Royal Navy and stripped of his knighthood after being convicted of stock exchange fraud, although he was allowed to continue as an MP (the conviction was later overturned), left the UK for Chile, where he helpedform that nations navy and liberate Chile and several other South American countries (the Spanish certainly would have considerred him a terrorist or the 19th centuary equivelent thereof) then he was welcomed back into the Royal Navy as an Admiral (being promoted upon his return)

      @Marcus Jones In lore, the maquis were citizens that lived on worlds that the Federation ceded to the Cardassians to keep them from starting a war with the Federation. The maquis, as a result, defended themselves from Cardassia. Chakotay, a Starfleet officer, resigned his commission after Cardassia killed his entire family on one of these worlds and Starfleet refused to do anything because they didn't want to start a war. When Chakotay resigned, he joined the Maquis to defend his home. There was a lot of support for the maquis among some starfleet officers, and they assisted them with weapons secretly. Regardless, 3-4 years later, the Federation was at full-scale war with Cardassia. I don't think, in this context, it would be that difficult, given Chakotay's leadership aboard Voyager, to forgive him for defending his home against an enemy that ultimately declared war on the federation anyways.

Back in Voyager he survived assimilation two times by his horrible parents, made it to the alpha quadrant, and was a big part of Seven’s life. Then PIC came along and decided to screw all that and give the poor kid a painful death just for shock factor. It pains me rewatching Voyager episodes with him knowing what his fate will be. I know there were many meaningless deaths in Star Trek, but I felt like Icheb’s death really tops all.

The other groups in Little federation included the Miners(dont remember what they are called) and several other local species, The BorgCoorporative and Ocampa and others like the TakTak and the PhotonicBeings who could interact with them via the Holosuites ! .. seems like a good story .. well in my head at least ..

    I liked Seven being an ambassador and unofficial leader in the Borg Cooperative in _STO_ . Of course, canon has no such thing as self-liberated Borg. A shame, I like to see how things that were established previously could have potentially gone on. I feel similarly about the Romulan Republic as opposed to the Romulan Free State (of which we know nothing except for the name and symbol). I hope CBS has the sense to leave Kuumarke and her people out of canon, as they are the last truly _TNG_ - feeling characters in the franchise. That the Lukari are original to _STO_ only adds to that, in my opinion.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 2 роки тому +1

      It doesn't? Sure it does. That was what Hugh and Lore and his bros were, weren't they? Self-liberated borg. Hugh got liberated originally by the enterprise crew, but he spread it to the rest of his borg mates himself, and so they left the collective, somehow, before running into Lore and deciding to follow him, because they were in desperate need of a leader and a direction to go down in life, and Lore was a narcissist little prick and so he'd never turn down the chance to rule over people, especially with the borg being his private army meaning he was one of the most powerful leaders in the galaxy because nothing has the strength and durability of a borg, not even Klingons or Jem Hadar. Well except for Lore and Data and B4 of course, but that wouldn't make an army, even if all 3 of then worked together
      My theory in how they actually managed to leave the Borg without being destroyed by them has always been that the borg _LET_ them go. Like cutting out a tumour to save a patient. If someone has breast cancer, you end up having to remove the whole breast, to be safe, so it doesn't spread any further. The borg could see that what was essentially a computer virus was spreading through their ranks, so that more and more borg would become individuals if they didn't stop it. Even though enterprise had decided against using the virus they specifically designed to do this to the borg to destroy them for the sake of Hugh being an individual sentient being, his individuality had somehow remained anyway and achieved the same thing, helping tons of borg liberate themselves. And since this individuality virus could spread through air/space via the borg Wi-Fi connection, they didn't even want to get within lightyears of Hugh's ship because the individuality virus would spread to any borg ship that got near them, and then the borg would have to send another ship to destroy that one and so on. Letting a few hundred borg go so that the disease wouldn't spread anymore, would be the most logical option.
      I haven't seen all of Picard yet so I don't know if they ever talk about this (cos I know Hugh is actually in it and is mates with Picard still). That'd be cool if they did. Cos a new war against the borg a century after the dominion war would be a cool idea for a show. The borg more powerful than ever, adapted to resist the ways in which people like Picard and janeway came up with to destroy the borg (like they're weak to physical bullets in First Contact, so start making huge physical torpedoes again or something for attacking borg cubes, instead of phasers and photon torpedoes which can easily be blocked by shields because they're not really physical). It could be a pure war show, like Band of Brothers but in space. Could be a miniseries too. And you could make it M-Rated like band of brothers was, to show the reality of what war is like

    Actually, the Harry Kim in Star Trek Online turned out to be the one from the Alternate timeline, with the one from the Prime timeline waking up only to find himself a Kobali. It was a very strange set of missions, that. Turns out, after Prime Kim was jettisoned into space, his frozen corpse was discovered by a Kobali ship, taken to Kobali, & then put into a maturation chamber to receive the Kobali's way of reproducing. While you're on Kobali dealing with a Vaadwaur invasion, Prime Kim wakes up & you have to go deal with him because he still thinks he's actually Harry Kim until you get to the end of the mission dealing with him & he realizes he actually died. It's crazy.
    And until they rewrote the entire Starfleet storyline in STO, there used to be a mission in the early part of the game where you actually had to help Paris's daughter deal with some kind of conference dealing with the Klingons & people trying to sabotage it. It was one of the few missions where which career path you'd chosen for your character actually mattered, & you find out that B'ellana had actually become something of an Ambassador between Starfleet & the KDF because of being half of each & the mother of the Klingon Messiah. But now, it's gone.
    As for the Doctor, his mobile emitter would become the basis for a whole slew of BOFF's, from the Holographic Tactical Officer in the Lobi store, to the Holographic Doctor that's a part of the Rank 4 Phoenix pack, to the set of holographic versions of the DS9 secondary Dominion War era crew, to even a holographic version of Leeta. And you even get a copy of the Mk 1 Doctor as an Epic Duty Officer, after one of the Delta Quadrant missions. So, the Doc's been a heavy influence.

In the mission from the 10th anniversary Seven says she will inform the Rangers to keep an eye out in this region as its discovered its Orion pirates not the Borg that are interfering with comm bouys outside FED space in the Beta Quadrant. Seems to imply Starfleet is willing to tolerate the Rangers Policing activities as long as its outside Federation territory. Maybe because this group is able to do what Starfleet cant interfering in security matters outside Federation juristiction. Wouldn't be surprised if Starfleet secretly supplies the Rangers using them like a proxy police force. My TTRPG group has been playing Star Trek Adventures for awhile. We're a mixed group of starfleet cadets and Klingon Officers forced together by circumstances similar to the Voyager and Maquis crews.
    We were in the Delta Quadrant, though a different part than what Voyager saw, but eventually managed to make contact with home. And who did we get? Admiral Kathryn Janeway. (Our GM does an amazing Janeway voice.)
    She brought the Dauntless to rescue us, pulling some strings off "screen" she was joined by Captains Tom Paris and Harry Kim, Commander Naoimi Wildman, The Doctor, and Seven.
    Even though it was absolutely not alpha canon, it was wonderful to see some of the family together again.

    • @TheBigExclusive
      @TheBigExclusive 2 роки тому +8

      My guess is the Equinox incident was quietly swept under the rug or classified. Starfleet just got through a brutal war with the Dominion and didn't want to hurt morale any further with a public trial.
      The surviving crew of Equinox probably got off light. They would be allowed to quietly retire, or be assigned to some unimportant job with no authority. I'm also sure Vice Admiral Janeway made sure they never got promoted again and their Starfleet careers went nowhere.... as a punishment.
      But that punishment is certainly better than the alternative of a trial and death penalty.

      @@TheBigExclusive pretty much this. It will have hurt those crewmen's chance for advancement in future, but something tells me they were just ready to let bygones be bygones, under the principle of extenuating circumstance. • @TheBigExclusive
      @TheBigExclusive 2 роки тому +6

      @@TacComControl - Very good point. Starfleet understands the Equinox were stranded alone for years without any supplies or hope. Watching 70% of the Equinox crew die in the first few months probably made the survivors go crazy and do things they wouldn't normally do.
      Starfleet doesn't agree with the Equinox crew's actions. But the Starfleet Admirals can't judge or condemn them. It was a matter of life and death. And Starfleet just experienced a war and did many different dark things to beat the Dominion (breaking treaties, cloaking weapons, making biological weapons, viruses, assassinations, lying, murder, using Stars themselves as weapons, and even asking god aliens for help).
      Starfleet knew full well what survival costs and what it takes. That's why I think the Equinox incident was buried, or even deleted from the public records. They told the Equinox crew to go home and never talk about the horror they experienced. To forget it and move on.

    What happened to the run of the mill crewman (so basically the people who never were in Starfleet and/or didn't want to be? Were they compensated for their service? Because frankly I doubt that most of the lower ranking Maquis would want to stay in Starfleet to be bossed around by people who basically bartered away their homes to the Cardassians, who went on to devestate the Alpha Quadrant!)? Sure the officers with their cushy jobs (from Chakotay to B'Elana!) of course kept their commissions, the Maquis' objectives have after all been fulfilled during the Dominion War and they can enjoy a great job, while also being able to tell others "I was right" or "I told you that you were wrong!" constantly!

    • @StephenWittMusic
      @StephenWittMusic 2 роки тому

      Since the Federation doesn't really have or need money anymore at this point in the timeline, I don't think they would be compensated, because no one gets compensated (or needs paid from what we understand). I'm sure that, in light of their exemplary service (and at Janeway's request) - they'd be debriefed like everyone, pardoned of any crimes they had committed and sent on to choose whatever path they wanted tho! Maybe even offered a role in Starfleet due to their experience - IF they wanted it. Which would be a big deal after being involved in the Maquis. But as always they would be free to leave Starfleet if their values still didn't align.

    • @oldtwinsna8347
      @oldtwinsna8347 Рік тому

      The Maquis would not be obligated to stay in Starfleet a single minute after the ship returned. Besides, I somehow doubt Starfleet would allow them to retain their equivalent status in Starfleet itself (whether crewman, and definitely not as an officer). At most, they would receive some experience points IF they applied as a new recruit or academy prospect. Then again, it is highly like Starfleet would not hire any former Maquis to begin with as it would potentially undermine the integrity of what Starfleet stands for. The Maquis were and still were classified as a terrorist organization that advocated for the deaths of Starfleet personnel who stood in their way. That did not change over the course of the Dominion war. Starfleet cannot afford to take that risk. Yes, they would be celebrated after returning, get a bottle of champagne from the Federation President, but after the party is over for night, they would not be treated well, career-wise.

      Janeway as all male Captains in mission, before and after her, only ever had one lover, the space (and by extension her ship, USS Voyager), which left little room to Chakotay for 7 years. Result; he turned to Seven for lack of anyone else. We don't know if their romance deepened or if it was just a flirt. Almost all fanfictions written afterwards, described their relationship as short-lived with him or Seven reuniting with Janeway. Picard's series finally wrote Seven as lesbian, what ruined the chances of seeing Seven and Chakotay back together, one day! Plus, Prodigy seems to explain that Chaktay, now Captain, is lost somewhere in another part of the Universe... .

Evolutionary, it would make perfect sense for a species to end up with an amphibian/crocodilian physique in the kind of swamp biome we see. It's pretty much the niche of apex predator in an environment like that.
      Evolution is not about everything getting objectively better all the time - it's about raising as many offspring as efficiently as possible. That's all there is to it really. And while traits like upright walking, manipulator hands, complex abstract thinking and detailed communication offer some general advantages - if those advantages don't weigh out the energy cost or they force the animal into costly habits, it makes more sense to adapt other traits with immediate benefits instead. In a swamp, upright walking is tedious and inefficient, a streamlined body and paddle fins make it much easier to navigate the environment. With abundant food, hands aren't all that useful (compared to an additional set of fins) and without larger social groups, communication barely needs any complexity.
      Now, how they define the term "evolution" i that episode, *that* is 100% bullshit. Gotta give them a couple million generations for such adaptions to occur via evolution.
