The game "was" almost done, but it gained much more attention than they expected. They saw the hype, and they knew what they had was not good enough in their eyes. So they revamped everything, are still creating a whole new engine.
to be honest this was and is a good decision! more and more games these days arnt finished when they release them and seing a company careing about their product is a good thing. they write a whole new engine. And people are still hyped! there is nothing to talk about and even yet u see a lot of youtubers trying to talk about it, also you see people talking about it under this videos. As soon its out it will be a massive hype.
not one minute into the video and there's already misinformation. There are multiple blog posts detailing that play testing is actively happening within the studio, meaning that there are large groups of people, outside of the development team, who have played the game for the purpose of giving the developers feedback based on what they have played. Also cyberpunk has literally nothing to do with anything lmao, plenty of games have been overhyped and had poor releases, with far worse situations than cyberpunk being common across gaming history (duke nukem forever being one example). The explanation for why this game is taking so long to release is simple. The game was near feature complete when the trailer released, however after seeing the response the trailer received, the developers realized that they could make the game the best it possibly could be without having to worry about whether or not it would actually be successful, or just be seen as a minecraft clone. This was then followed by the team deciding to switch the programming language of their engine from java to c# (or c++ i cant remember of the top of my head) for a variety of reasons that can be summed up as making the game more accessible for modding and easier to develop going forward as java is a very limiting programming language. This is a massive undertaking that obviously takes a large amount of time to complete. That's why we're not getting the game any time soon, and I think that the decisions the team have made will only end up being a good thing for the game. Releasing the trailer when they did was not a mistake, it was the best thing that could have happened to the game. Hype is temporary, a good game is eternal. tldr: please do the bare minimum amount of research necessary before making a youtube video.
You forgot one thing, what they are trying to achieve is not a game anymore, but an entire engine, what they want to make, is more similiar to roblox, which explains the massive delay, yes, as you said they are doing external playtests, which shows that you paid attention to the language they used, they also did that little tournament thingy in which some players tried to escape the arena, which clearly shows that the game is in a complete enough state to be shown, if i am not wrong, Orbis is almost basically complete, the other worlds are not tho, and the new engine (as of now, its almost completed, and they are porting a lot of stuff from the old one)
Also, if you read the blog posts you can see that they've stated they are not ready to give a release date yet sooo when making such mini documentaries please be more careful with your research.
It's kind of dumb for 2024 anymore, like release something instead of nothing
Close testing is happening and they are working on an entire engine. Not every game has to come out riddled with bugs and no content!
I personally think that a beta or alpha will drop in late 2025 with a full release dropping either in 2026 or 2027.
Consdering they havent even compeltetly finished the new engine, uh no. Likelyhood is a mid-late 2025 release, the fact GTA6 might actually release before this game is WILD
Imo its good there aint too much hype atm, otherwise they can't sustain it until the future's game release and it's popularity will die down, however, i've noticed increase in the numbers of hytale loyal fanbase.
Cyberpunk also had issues with the content in the game, we were told we'd be able to start from 3 different beginnings and while that is technically true it's very misleading because you only play as that for 5 minutes
the thing about cyberpunks release is that CDPR was more or less bullied into releasing it early by the fans, even after saying that the game wasn't ready multiple times.

they were about to release it but... before they could an enormous amount of hype was built up. it got the attention of riot games which gave them access to a way larger budget and a larger team also increased expectations of the community. it was inevitable they would delay it I don't think there will be an issue with hype when it fully releases the only thing I'm worried about is the communities expectations as well as my own. keep in mind these are ex modders working with a really ambitious project.
Quick answer is no but there could be a beta soon but who knows for sure? If it does drop I'm playing it

why cant they just take the minecraft approach and just show like pre alpha version. cause if it releases as a finished game and its shit. well idk what going to happen

But your idea is not bad indeed....probably they want to use Nostalgia Hype to rebuild what they lost...? and using pre-alpha would ruin it, at least, that is my theory

I am pretty sure, that when a second trailer will drop, everyone will be hit with a huge load of nostalgia, and hype will be stronger than before, because everyone basically forgot about this game, yet grew up, and will remember happier times looking back.
