Explaining this kind of stuff is sort of like trying to explain different HDMI cables to someone who just wants his television to work.

Even better, it's like trying to explain different USB standards to someone who just wants to charge their phone.
On a more serious note, why are Meta branded battery straps causing problems? Were they seriously not built to the right standard, or are they just of poor quality?

Judging by how the accessories made by Meta for Q2 were absolutely trash I am going to guess the latter.

@@Wooskii1 the early ones were just quest 2 batteries. They did not charge fast enough. Not sure , but I think some have been corrected. I ended up buying a quick disconnect belt and a 10000mah battery that charges at 30watts with a good USB c to USB c 100w cable. Ended up being cheaper by a little and it maintains my current battery level no matter what game I play. Plus no battery on my head. I don't even know it's there.

GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for sharing your results. About half my viewers are also having the buzzing and the other half (including me) are not. I've run this thing in all sorts of power states and it has never buzzed on me yet (knock on wood). Maybe I just got lucky with the components on mine, but either way I am thrilled at the results I'm getting. Just FYI, I did buy the 2 battery w/ charging dock version and it has worked great. If you don't mind, I'd like to link your video to mine to help some of my viewers better understand the issue. Thanks again, great job!

i just got my metaquest 3 and binbok t3 today. i heard the dreaded buzzing and at first i thought it was a vr environment or background noise in the game i was playing. i realized it was the battery after pulling it off. Thanks for the great explanation on where this is coming from and how to work around it. besides the buzzing i like the head strap and i think i'll hang on to it. hopefully i can get an upgraded battery or something to replace this one if they ever come out with an upgrade.

Great video, I've experienced this issue and its great to have a consistent solution.
One note about this specific strap, the mechanism on the back of the strap is either poorly made or has really bad QC. Within a week i couldnt keep it tight, would just back off immediately. Replaced with a second unit, same issue two weeks later.
Ive been really happy with my bobovr m3, though initial setup can be a little tricky. I think i just prefer halo straps overall, but i can stay in vr comfortably for much longer.
    Thanks again for the video!

I appreciate the explanation and solutions, It is quite annoying that when using a link cable for PCVR I also experience this buzzing, I haven't tried but I assume letting the power on the headset drop first as you said that may help it, or just using airlink / virtual desktop, allowing you to use a different charger for the quest

Thank you for the video! I've been using BoboVr batteries for some time now but never heard the battery noise because I'm using earbuds. I hearded it this morning and after a quick google search, I saw that buzzing or hissing lithium batteries are about to explode/catch fire.... I was about to throw my battery on the middle of the road before I saw your video. Now I understand that the noise come from the electronics and not the battery itself. I wonder why I never heard it before because it's really loud. I'll do some testing with your solution. Thanks again!

I bought the elite strap with battery and it worked once, then failed like so many others. This was why I bought it from Amazon rather than Meta, easy returns! Got a replacement when they came back in stock and that one has been perfect. Super comfortable and no need to unplug it because of the way it communicates with the headset. Expensive but when it works it works really well, which wasn't my experience with Quest 2 battery headstraps.

    • @BluntyTV

There have been widespread reports of this exact fault with Meta's own "pro strap" for the quest 3. It seems to be a design or manufacturing fault... I'd advise people avoid it, for now, as meta have yet to clearly address the issue.

@@BluntyTV I tried the faulty one with phones, tablets and headphones. It had the same issue, charge for a couple seconds then stop, same as with the quest 3. So claims meta will 'fix' it seem unlikely as it seems nailed on to be an issue with the battery controller. I agree though, couldn't actually recommend it in good faith.

You don't need one that fast. A 20watt (9v/12v USB Power Delivery) power bank should be fine. I've been using small cheap 10,000 MAH ($16) one and I slip it into my pocket. Mostly just keeps the Q3 at its current % during gameplay. I played dungeons of eternity and also virtual desktop at 120hz and the battery on the Q3 stays the same. The Powerbank extended the battery about 2 1/2 hours or so b4 it died. So adding the internal battery thats 4 hours+. I ended up getting 2 batteries and I simply hot swap them.

You mentioned in the video that the Quest 3 can be charged at 5V or 9V. On the internet (Reddit - "Battery test : You need a USBC PD or QC3.0+ compatible charger/battery bank for quest 3") I have seen several tests in which, using a Type-C Voltmeter/Tester, you can see that the Quest 3 also uses 12V (~1.8A).

    • @pavichokche
      @pavichokche 9 місяців тому

Yes the Q3 supports 12V charging, and from my testing with a power tester it seems to PREFER it most of the time, if the attached charging solution can provide it. This is normal, since at a higher voltage you're pushing less current through everything. Most modern PD chargers that go above 18W usually support 12V.

Its not too hard to wrap your head around. you need a minimum of 18w to charge while in use. 5v 3A not cutting it as thats only 15W you need at least 9v 2A. or 5v 4A anything less will extend the play time but it will still drain not charge. my Solution to the quest 3 power problem was just getting a 65W 30.000Mha Powerbank. and a Usb C cable. now i have around 14 Hours of playtime before lights out! if i play something like beatsaber other game the requires me to move a lot i use a 65W 10,000mha powerbank.

5v 3A + .03a Is not 15w it's 16.5w. Also the quest 3 will not draw 18w all the time it's definitely under 16.5 otherwise the battery would drain on my testing.
Played thrill of the fight mixed reality QGO hd+ upscaled only drained 1% after 30 mins. negligible battery drain you could swap out batteries and play indefinitely.

or just simply buy a powerbank with all the requirements + cable that supports that wattage and keep it in your pocket lol
e.g. I have a UGREEN 100W Powerbank, with all the fancy protocolls like QC, PD etc. + a cable that supports up to 240W of PD + thunderbolt 4. (little bit overkill, but its also used for my laptop) - thats around 90-110$

100w power bank is def overkill. I’m guessing it would be like at least 20,000-30,000 mah as well. That’s pretty big and heavy. I myself use a 10,000 mah 20 watt (9v/12v) PD power bank and it works great. Nice and small. I just slip it into my pocket. $16 for the power bank and then $7 (2 pack) 6 feet L usb c to c cable. That extends the playtime by another 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours without quest 3 draining at all.
So that’s about $20. I actually Ended up buying two batteries so I can hot swap them and they been working perfectly fine. $38 total for almost unlimited playtime now as I just charge one battery as one is being used

You just need a battery bank over 22w and 9v and and usb-c cable and you can charge and play all day.
