I have been using only a iPad Pro for nearly two years now and I absolutely love it. Text work, graphics, video editing and recording two weekly video podcasts.

@@jerry-ic8id start with a 12.9 M1 Pro. At my desk I connect it to a Longsea Magfit iPad Pro & MacBook Magnetic Docking Station. I went with this one because it was one of the few to include a Ethernet port. I use Canva heavily for graphic and video work. LumaFusion for heavier video editing. Podcasts are recorded using Zoom. I found a key is to be really well organized with all my files… I live in iCloud and Dropbox. I will admit it was a bit “scary” when I first went all iPad and stopped using my MacBook Air. I had to keep the Air nearby for a short time. But I just fully committed to using the iPad and the longer I used it the more comfortable I got with it and realized it can do everything I need.

This reminds me of when I started my degree at Uni… before my Mac I had a windows laptop, which was fine, because Uni is Microsoft base in Australia. But I still had my iPad mini 5 with pencil 1, which became my main device for study, because it was portable. With just that one device, I learnt how to do everything with it. Lessons, reading, note taking, brain storming, editing photographing images, video recording, video editing, making digital media, recording audio… all the things. I now have an iPad Air5 (with Magic Keyboard, pencil 2) and Mac Mini M1 (dual screens, because still used to Windows😂) but would still call my iPad my main device. It’s true - when you have that one device without all the noise… you truly have the scope to concentrate on it and learn all of its secrets and skills.

I’m currently the head of my IT dept for a major global company, overseeing many business verticals, all using my iPad Pro - 1st year using the 11”, 2nd year on 12.9”).
The iPad Pro with Apple Keyboard + Remote Desktop to Windows on Azure is literally the BEST setup merging my iphone with my workspace.
With the USB-C extended display, Remote Desktop expands to my second monitor in full super wide angle display while I leverage the smaller iPad screen for other content.
Copying and pasting between iOS & Windows is a breeze.

Writing a journal on iPad Pro and using touch for everything really makes the experience so much better compared to using it on a keyboard all day. For me at least. It's not a laptop. It's something better in more ways than not. Only thing holding this back is the full feature of desktop programs like Final Cut, Logic, PhotoShop, and all those other programs that existed on desktop since the early 2000's.

I'm a graphic and website designer, so without having full access to Photoshop, Illustrator and Developer mode I'm not quite sure how far I'll get with the design phase of my work.
I believe I may have to save the bulk of my work using my MBP and use the ipad for admin work, note taking, brain dumps and idea generation. However, I am determined to use my iPad as much as I possibly can because it's only been used to watch movies.

I use it for note taking during my lectures, doing assignments on the web based Microsoft 365 , good notes , taking notes during meetings, jotting down stuff in notion .. really love the workflow.. the only issue i have is running zoom and taking notes because of the limited screen space.. for e.g having a lecture run one side and taking notes on good notes on the other .. not sure if i get a 12.9 this would solve the issue .. or the new iPads extended desktop would be ideal by using an external portable monitor .. prefer the set up to be mobile

My one issue was when moving large files from the device (iPad Pro in my case) to an external hard drive. The device was leaving some cache copy of the files in the 'system data' section of storage...which you can't access or delete (my files app started growing with these inaccessible dummy files). I deleted the files app and redownloaded it, that took care of it, but made a lot of apps who store data in files messed up when I went back to them. Oh yeah, one more thing. I hate you can't start a sentence with a lowercase letter.

Everybody is different, but I, for one, have to focus 100% on one job at a time. I see these people who insist on having multiple windows on several monitors, which would drive me crazy. Concentrating on one item at a time, ticking it off, and going to the next makes me more productive and less distracted. It has worked for me for decades.
This is another reason why a base device like an iPad or Macbook/Windows with lower specs (8GB of RAM) can handle all my workflows. I only use one app at a time, focusing on that with all available resources. So, 8GB Macs/Windows and iPads are good enough for casual to office workflows without missing a beat.
But some people enjoy the hectic nature of distractions and can cope with it far better than I can, so each to their own. However, those working frugally with low-config laptops and tablets should be respected by those who insist that we "have" to have more and more specs, just because they are different.

iPad is good as tablet. But to use as a productive computer it needs desktop operating system. The solution is still remote desktop into another computer if you want to use an iPad or if you have enough money, log into a cloud pc.
This is because Apple installs iPadOS a mobile only OS on the iPads which is good for light portability and light work but struggles with more demanding and specialist software. Until Apple provides a MacOS option of sorts, the best choice is to go for a cheap budget ipad not a pro because the pros can't fully use the software.

2:06 - “There’s something cool about having my desk setup be my portable setup” I can completely relate. However, if you’re a developer, this setup gets old fast.
I was attracted to this idea and tried doing it before I got my current job and while it was an interesting idea, it was ultimately too limiting.
Since Apple restricts system access, in order to set up a real VS Code environment I had to set up a server and create a Safari bookmark for it.

I recently sold my iPad Pro M1, Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil because I found it so inefficient to work from. I guess it all depends on the type of work you do…but for the vast majority (I think) of us who are not UA-cam content creators and instead live/work within the Microsoft Office apps where file organization and manipulation is key, iPad just doesn’t make sense. Drag and drop rarely works. You CAN do most things you would do on a PC, it just takes two or three additional steps to get it done. I think most of these super desk setups with tons of equipment and accessories, has to do with Amazon affiliation. The more stuff they have, the more chances to make a commission.

With the time, I think the mac isreally limited. Exemple : I can make a document, introduction, information, and website content ( 30 pages) in second, can not do that with the mac. I just want to tell you that without the iPad i still do things the same way: boring and a lot of waste of time. Without the iPad I would not have discovered the Markdown, a marvel. Etc…

This video wouldn’t exist if they just ported MacOS onto the iPad. The iPad is more than capable of running computer software.
What if I need plugins or extensions? It’s just a giant iPhone that you can use a pencil with.
You also still have to buy that pencil separately.
My iPhone with IOS does not struggle to do anything. So why put the M2 chip with almost the same software? I don’t understand.
The starting price for a M2 MacBook Pro with more storage costs less than the starting price on the 12.9 inch iPad Pro.
(It too has a larger screen)
The reason I call this a problem is because apple advertises the iPad as a PROPER computer replacement. No matter what I do with the software I’ll never be able to use most of the power of the M2 chip.
If I want to get anything I can only get it from the AppStore. Understandable for the iPhone. Not understandable for a “computer replacement”
Never the less the iPad isn’t a bad device. But it can be many times more useful if Apple decides to focus on software development.
Aren’t they a software company too? iPad OS is useless and can only run 2 apps at the same time.
