- Barn Find Hunter Tom Cotter has been hunting cars since he was 12 and has discovered more than his share of hidden gems. So when he says, “This is what dreams are made of,” you can take it to the bank.
In BFH, episode 20, presented by Shell and Quaker State, Tom heads to South Carolina and gets more than he bargained for. First, he admires the remains of a rare 1953 Woodill Wildfire, one of approximately 300 built by Dodge and Willys dealer Blanchard Robert “Woody” Woodill in Downey, Calif. Tom checks out a 1967 Porsche 912 and a 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special when things get a little wild-literally.
After driving to North Carolina to visit old friend Steve Davis, a former member of Dale Jarrett’s NASCAR team, Tom strolls through a car-filled building that Steve claims “is longer than a football field.” He isn’t kidding. Tom also admires a barn full of Jaguars-from an XK140 roadster to an XKE 2+2-and inspects a 1932 Chevrolet moonshine car, complete with a bullet hole in the rear window.

Arguably one of the best "car shows" on UA-cam
Lino Mogorovic agreed. Keep it up Hagerty
Oh yes - i also love it - and the music is perfect
not arguably, it is the best
Tom has inspired me to barn find hunt...lot's of places to look here in Maine
Lino Mogorovic I
I am from the uk 🇬🇧 and so enjoy watching these shows, I knew nothing about American cars until I started watching, I feel I have learnt a lot and love the passion you guys have for the old stuff, I have watched every episode and wait to see news ones, I searched and found my own barn find three cars on a farm in a barn that had been sat for 12 years I bought them and have recommissioned one and half way through the next. This programme is pure inspiration keep it up guys!!!! 👍
Awesome! What cars did you find? Which one is up and running and which one is the current project? It would be great if you could share your story and some photos on our new forums at forums.hagerty.com!
Guessing a Ford pop
Man every young boy should have to watch this series. So much history in those cars and stories of how they were purchased. I could watch this all day!
. Im 15 too and i like this also
I got a chance to meet Steve by chance when I accidently stumbled across his shop once. He is a very humble man and gave me a tour of all his cars and answered any questions I had about them.
Steve Davis a man full of stories and adventures! He deserves a full 1 hour interview!!!!
It's lovely the see that incredible big block, manual/stick shift County Squire again, what an incredibly cool and rather unique wagon...
On one of Tom's episodes, he show how he acquired it.
These places really do exist, you find them when you least expect it. I just found a corvette grave yard deep in the woods. There was a 100yr old factory building full of cars. In the middle was a 63 split window corvette. The owner had it for 40yrs. I ended up buying it. Great show. Keep on hunting!
You need a Truck to restore it completely ?
We Can....
Awesome story !
Its absolutely heartbreaking to see these Jags sit and rot like this. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Not really. They make new old ones from the factory exactly identical to the originals. With the condition of those in the barn, the restoration cost would be as high as just buying the same car from the factory. You'd have to replace almost everything. Let them rot away.
they’re not rotting lol
This was one of the best episodes ever. The story about the flood car, the Jags.. Woke up the little kid in me, just sat here in wide wonder and listened in awe.
this is so interesting you could make much longer episodes! i could watch that for hours and listen to the storys of these old beauties.
I hope Hagerty has realised that this series should become one of the most people, if not already the most popular on their channel. Keep at it. Plenty of finds to be had!! I'd love to see some sort of restoration show also.
You must be from across the pond.. it's relize in the US
Wayne Carini has been doing this on TV for almost 20 years. This show really reminds me of Chasing Classic Cars a lot. I love that this show is more raw and shows all kids of cars. Not just 2 million dollar Duesenbergs stutzs and Rolls Royce.
The guy in Maggie Valley is a hoarder. It's a shame those cars and bikes don't get to be used and are just rotting away. Another great episode!
Think of all the other cars and motorcycles he -didn't- buy 30 years ago - you know, all the ones that were crushed and now no longer exist! Maybe there's some value to keeping them in barns after all....
MrZep420 why keep hording them then?
yep he's a hoarder..probably need a scoop shovel to clean his bedroom..very dirty old man!
Chad Simmons I know a pilot named Chad Simmons.....
It’s really amazing what is sitting in random barns. It’s also a bit said that this stuff just might be scrapped one day since most of these people don’t want to sell this stuff and some of these guys are up there in age.
This is honestly one of very few series that I've watched every video at least 30 times.
Just amazing collections of cars and bikes, a lot is junk, but how the hell does anyone ever accrue that much stuff? Just amazing. Keep digging.
So many beautifull cars slowly rotting away. They should be preserved for all to enjoy. If I had the money I would buy a classic car.Great video.
I worked for Bob way back in the 80s. That place is a time capsule. Nothing's moved in 30 years, amazing, and good to see he's still up and about.
SteverRob hello my name is Tyler I live in Columbia,SC if you don’t mind can you tell me where I can find Bob’s salvage yard I have been wanting a crew cab squarebody for so long now and I noticed that he has two sitting there.
lost for words really. my goodness. so many treasures.
Hi l have rescued a few American cars to the uk, love to see all those barn finds, it's a little worrying that future generations will not be interested enough to rebuild or appreciate all of them. I think some of these hoarders believe they will live forever. We have a 67 Chevrolet 396 ss. 73 mach 1 351.67 cougar 302 .09 dodge challenger 6.1 hemi,
Respect to the guy who has collected all those machines. He is protecting our heritage. Long my you carry on.
Watching these episodes again. Just love the way Tom C. Talks to the owners as he draws out the stories we love to hear.
Love this channel! Thank you for bringing me (living in Switzerland) a chance to see these amazing finds.
I have a 1977 XJ-S. Found it in a garage and hasn’t been on the road since 1988. British racing green with camel leather. Numbers matching, 20k miles. However, it is in need of restoration. Hoping I have the opportunity to bring it back to its former glory at some point in my life.
i new as soon as you said you were going to maggie valley i knew who you were going to see. i knew it wasn’t going to be dale walksler i knew it had to be this man with the jag’s and bentley, chevys, and what not sitting right off the main road. i’m glad i now know who it is
What is the point of having 12 barns full of cars and bikes that should be sold to people that would put them back on the road (where they truly belong, and would be properly treasured) ..... what a waste
Tell you what, you and everyone like you. Buy a collection of your own and then you can do what "should be done."
Or sold to people who’ll resell them for a quick profit and drive up the prices.
Its great to see you driving the 428 manual wagon , i guess you own it
I want to buy it!
It actually appeared in one of the episodes and it is a 1/1 car ever made.
yes
You can't have a better "sleeper".Get the picture: Tom sitting at a red light, kid comes up in the next lane in his 'stang and laughs at him " Yo sir, ya drive your Granny's car! yuk yuk!" And then Tom nails it... End of story. :-))))
Plenty diff ratios out there ))
Интересно смотреть ваши передачи. Поражает количество и разнообразие автомобилей в те времена. Культура автомобилестроения высокая.
Imagine some unsuspectin' dude drivin' his new Chevy Truck up the Mt. Pass, tryin' to pass that Squire Wagon! Love it. Sleepers are just FUN!
Linda McEntaffer
Funny !!
The joy surely must be to see this rust converted into what they used to be running as they were, all shiney and good looking. Any followups on these vehicles Post-barn to street?
i’ve climbed up the ghost town in the sky ski lift in the hot sun with no water in maggie valley. that’s a damn hike. such a pretty view of the town once you get up there though. a truly breathtaking sight
i love this series,
i hope you guys can make another episode on steve's 10 other shed's of goodies he has.
Honestly, I don't even know what the car at the 6 minute mark is, but it would be a crime to remove it from that space. Buy the barn with it, along with all the dead leaves and dirt, and put the whole thing as is in an art exhibit. That scene cannot be tampered with.
(Maybe leave the animals behind though)
Alfred Munkenbeck was thinking the same thing
That's a '47 Cadillac. Probably rusted out, sitting on the deck like that.
It deserves to get driven.
Same thoughts here.
What great places to find. Much more interesting than a museum, in these places you can dream away ..... finding cars hearing stories. Love it. For those who say what a shame don't worry one day all if it will be for sale...........
Some people are truly wealthy.... This guy has 12 buildings full of junk cars and bikes, with a lot of gems in it. Id take an E-type all day
Over all too soon. Wish this was a much longer show! Love it!!
And that ‘67 wagon - YUM! 428 4-speed Country Squire wagon - all original!! What an amazing vehicle that is!
I like your show Tom. Some people just don't understand the connection we have with mechanical things especially cars. Honestly I think I have better conversations with my cars than with people as far as understanding what's going on with them, what they like and don't like...yeah...
And every once in a while your show connects a car to a man or woman who can give it new life... also very nice
my fave is the 32 Chev. Our family had one decades ago,a Conderate Coupe ,which has still only done 14,000 miles from new.
Tom you MUST make longer videos !!!!! You could do an hour long episode on each of Steve's barns. PLEASE!!!!!!
What's the point of owning all those cars if you're just going to leave them outside exposed to all the elements to slowly rot away? I don't understand these people. If you truly love cars then why not at least try to keep them in a somewhat reasonable condition? Such a waste.
cuz it costs time and money.
Dreamers, watching out for good deals, even freebee’s.
I know people are kinda nutty about cars at least sell some of them but they have mental block on selling they need Prozac then have a yard sale!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its a mental condition of some kind, hoarding-like. They must not realize that once they are gone to the other side, all this old stuff will most likely be scrap metal ... kind of sad.
"once they have gone to the other side". there are no luggage racks on Hearsts ....... @@dandaman4985
I like old cars but I love old motorcycles and there is chunks of gold everywhere there. Was that a Mustang peddle car next to that Honda QA50?
I live only 30 or so miles from Maggie Valley. This is absolutely amazing.
My grandfather restored a 1954 jaguar xk120 from next to nothing to a first in show car. It is my absolute favorite of his cars.
There is nothing like that in my country. :/
The best you can find would be an old USSR automobile that is not worth the money to take to the crusher.
id104335409 looool
There is, you just need to find them, really.
I drove past Lago D'Iseo in Italy last summer, apparently in the neighborhood houses a mid 30's fiat..
There's some cool old commie cars, sure there's no fords, jags and so on but the commies did make the odd good car
Amazing video. BTW I love your Country Squire.
Yes, I remember reading that Briggs Cunningham was involved with Woodill vehicles among his may other works. I bet one of those on the factory frame must have been a real joy to drive...
LOL that opossum! Imagine being sound asleep in your pile of leaves and all of a sudden, your house opens up and you fall out while being filmed.
Find an older XKE and install any decent America small block V-8 and you will have a better car than original if you want to ride around. The old straight 6 was very heavy and hard to tune. The first conversion I ever saw was a Mopar 318 installed and it handled far better than original because that V-8 weighed about a hundred pounds less than the 6. My weights may be off but that is what the builder told me back when I was young (21 in 1972) and the internet did not have all the facts available.
I love that Country Squire Wagon. My uncle had a Black Country Squire with Revell Red interior and a 352ci 3spd stick car. Man i loved rides in that as a kid. Wish I had it now
The story's that these cars tell are as great as finding them !! Love it!!
Hi, I've been hooked on watching your videos for 3 days now. I've been brings cars back to life for 43 years, but I have pretty much just been keeping the bills paid. I bring cars back to life for other people, still haven't found one for me. Got to thinking maybe I would find one of these people who needed to get some up and running in return for one.
Thanks for videos.
Glad to see you got the station wagon on the road. Your "show" is one of my favorites!!
I love this show and Tom's presentation. It's fun to watch all the barn finds and stuff but I feel somewhat bad for the folks have so much stuff collected over the years they can't get them back on the road or pass on before they can get a project running/restored. I wish I had the money to restore some of the cool finds if I could get my hands on one. I have a tough enough time keeping up with one or two project cars and although I'm not a mechanic I can do a few repairs. The other issue I have is I may find a mechanic who says he can fix a problem my car has but in reality he jumped a wire or took another shortcut just to get paid, and get the car out of his shop. Old school mechanics are getting harder to find, along with ridiculous prices for NOS parts for my old '74 Dodge. It's extremely frustrating to pay good money for crappy repairs or rebuilt carbs that don't work correctly. At least the local parts store gives me a refund every time I have to return a rebuilt 1 barrel carb for my slant 6. I might have to spend $2200 at Summit for the Clifford 4 barrel intake/exhaust kit. I enjoy the car but i am already upside down on the value vs. what I have spent over the last 11 years. I have always enjoyed car shows and cruising but it's become a rich man's hobby and as I am nearing age 60 my priorities are changing.
this series is SOOOO GOOD!
My mate's late mum owned a few E-Types throughout her younger years. When I was 16/17 she had an old E-Type sitting outside in the back of the house.
When I was about 18/19 she sold it for an offer of £2000? I think some guy heard about it through the grapevines and just walked up and made her the offer.
When I was about 21/22 she confessed that was gutted she didn't ask if I wanted it, being a car/bike geek and in a close nit group of mates with her sons. She would've just given it to me if I asked... Granted, I'd have no idea what I would've done with an E-Type, but I was close to having some old lady ask if I wanted to take it. But its now in my 30's I really respect the style and design of those things.
Love those old wagons the back seat good memories
This has to be the best episode. Please go back.
Dear Mr Cotter....PLEASE, ....always use that Country Squire for all your searches from now on, it's a super barn find itself, so it represents this chanel to absolute perfection !!
How's the rarest station wagon in the world been treating you?
What I love about this series is that most of the cars you find are actually ones that could be daily drivers. Who cares about Bugattis, Duesenbergs and other pre WW II cars no one can afford to drive on more than three sunny Sunday afternoons per year
hi just watched the vid. love it. just by chance my job in the uk is to restore mk 1 e-types (xke) for jaguar heritage. what a job.
Seeing those Jags just sitting there, collecting dust like that breaks my heart.
At least they’re not rotting away in somewhere like Michigan
They aren’t rotting.....Just dusty. He keeps them in the condition he finds them, and puts them inside buildings. Better than rotting outside. Eventually, he will see them to folks who will fully restore them. But until then, he is the caretaker of history.
Every car enthusiast should watch this series. Got hooked a month ago
Would love some talk on the bonnet mascots. So many in this series and highly collectable. Would love to own some...
Are these people really saving these cars... I feel they are just hording them into an early grave of rust and dust.
It's like buying all the antique furniture when it's cheap then leaving it all to rott.
How does a show not have a prime time spot on TV it’s amazing
I love this show, but it drives me crazy! So many people with beautiful cars that are completely neglected! They need to sell them to someone who will drive and appreciate it.
Hey, that's right ! The wagon ,wich was very rear, the only one like it as a matter of fact. Was being driving by you. I like that wagon! It's what I call a sport station wagon, for the family man and the sports car enthusiast. Super cool bro, super nice!
You know, I've gotten hooked on these vid's. I wonder if he's got anything for my '78 XT500 Yamaha, and My '78 XS650 SE Yamaha. I need good seats for both..
we have a 1963 Jaguar E-Type Roadster that has probably been sitting close to 30 years all torn apart ready for restoration but nothing's happening to it and also we have lots of other cars that are sitting out close to 20 years maybe or more and also some boats
I might have a few cars you might be interested in if your still doing barn finds first time seeing your channel and I really enjoyed watching it.
Hey I noticed a floor shift in your station wagon is there more suprises under the hood it just looks like a old beater ,I don't mean any disrespect I just love old sleepers! Also this guys setting on a gold mine if he wood just sell some of those classics !
Say, Tom: you still have your 289' Cobra Pete Egan helped you get from California in winter ?? That run was epic !
I just now saw this video b/c I was directed to it by a friend of Steve Davis. I have the chance to take a tour of his collection in a few weeks. After seeing this video, I can't wait to see all the stuff that Steve has stored away in those buildings! If I just had the cash to buy something and restore it...
If i had enough cash , i would go there and buy a few of those older bikes of the 70's . Amazing collection
MAN......I love your show....do you need a body guard / driver....👍👍👍👍👍 keep it going.. you absolutely tell the truth about the vehicles...come to Cincinnati please...
Have you known Steve Davis long and has he been living in Maggie Valley a long time. The reason I am asking you this but when I lived in Maggie Valley we went to a church there where the Pastors last name was Davis and his name was Steve , We became good friends. He had a Suzuki 90 dirt bike and a Suzuki 185. .We would get on the bikes and ride all over the mountains. .One time when we went riding we found a house out in the middle of no where. .In this house there was a bunch of antiques. Old windup telephone. Old brass feather beds and a lot of other things. If you do talk to him and he is the Steve Davis I knew back then tell him George Burke said hello. Also mention the Copper Kettle Steak House. He can always reach me through writing comments through your site. That would be super cool if he is the same guy I was friends with back then
My favorite car is still that wagon, can't stop loving it
So I'm essentially 4 days late on this because this stupid UA-cam didn't send me a notification even though I've specifically "told" it to as the bell is ticked.
Anyway, another lovely episode. I envy you Americans, you have so many of these old cars laying around just waiting to be saved by someone and restored. Here in Italy we don't have anything of this scale. And the few abandoned "project cars" we can find and buy are overpriced as hell because the owners think they're Ferraris worth hundreds of thousands of Euros even if they're just old Fiat 500s worth only the metal they're made of.
All I can say is WOW. You have the best job ever.
Is there a way to reach out to these people and buy the cars?
we got a 1963 jaguar e type roadster thats been sitting for maybe or 30yrs and also a few other car cars that have been sitting for close to that also
So glad this is back great work guys
How do people have the time to collect that much stuff! Awesome. I feel better, I have only 3 cars waiting for resto!
That's some incredible work you're doing there. Love it😎🍻
i like your wagon i have a 1971 torino squire . 302 car. yellow with the brown top and wood grain trim its a real head turner
@ 2min 10sec - this is a 4 Million Dollar Car! The Wildfire was the first real US Sports Car! I love it!!! Richard Rawlings and his friend Dennis has one of them! ;)
Excellent,I like your texs, good idea you are the best man
Mgb! I love those little cars! If you put a v-8 in those man! Those things will flat put run! My dad has a 1972 mgb with a green and orange exterior.
I freaking love that wagon
I love this serie.
Cool Jag. but did you notice the 74 Honda CR 125 in front of it? Sweet!
WOW 2000 hours to build one of those kit cars? That is not far off the time that it takes to build one of those JPS Porsche 356 replicas. They say 12-24 months but usually take a weekender 3 years to build. But for me building it is most of the fun honestly.
Beautiful Porsche 912, I would be very sad, if it would be dissected to make a fun car out of it..
But nice series! Maybe consider something about car restauration as an upcoming series... ;)
Is that his Country Squire with a 4-SPEED?! Awesome...
Best episode ever. One thing. With the closed captions on, it says "Angel Ferrari." Enzo. Enzo. Cheers::::
you have a awesome job Tom. Living your dream every day. well done mate.
Love the yarns.Goid history.
Fantastic program
The Cadillac is unbelievable.
This show is so depressing, most cars won't ever be rebuilt. Still very interesting to watch 😊
I love this channel!
