One thing to add to the rig (I use the same one). A bead between the bullet and the swivel will protect your knot and keep the bullet from sticking on the swivel. Bass fishers know this rig as "brass and glass".
I caught my first stockie on the 6th this year 4/6/2024 caught 3 and today caught 4 using a simple simple rig no leader or anything just 1 spit shot small hook and some trout bait these trout are really fun to catch highly recommend going out when you can for these guys
I use a lot of Berkley powerbait when I'm fishing for trout, this even includes the Berkley powerbait floating trout worms. Also I like to use the new pautzke fireball worms too. What I do is this, I use the small gold trout magnet jig head and put one of the power worms on and just slightly bounce, or twitch them off the bottom. Don't know what it does but it puts the trout in a fishing frenzy that's for sure. Another great video and more great tips as well.
The old Carolina rig set up. Classic set up for almost any fishing activity. I put a little red bead under my weight to protect my Knott plus I feel the extra color gets the fishes attention....
Great video! Thank you bec, I caught everything besides trout so far. 8 carp yesterday, 1 sucker, 1 tree branch but no trout so now I'll try this method!
good point that this method the bait often goes deep. I clamp down the barb but still in many cases I cannot get the hook but had to cut the line to release the fish. If it is a good day I will switch to circle hooks for healthier catch and release.
In my experience if you use just power bait you tended to gut hook the trout. But I’ve used a 1/64 trout magnet jig with a pink trout magnet followed by yellow power bait set behind the trout magnet. Works great and less gut hook sets.
Going to have to try this method out out next time I go to the lake! I have my own tricks and they work great sometimes and not so much other times. It's always nice to have new tricks up your sleeves just in case one is not working that day. Thanks for always explaining your setups!

Hey Fish Hawk, just been watching your videos here, and love them. I love when you catch trout. I've been catching trout too. I'll try your technique later on.
I've used this many times with great success however sometimes even stocked trout won't bite with this.. have u come across this and what is there to do to get them biting...I find with this setup either u nailthem right away or else it's an off day...any tips
How do you rig the atomic tubes? I was using these the other day and just put a couple split shots up about 18" from the tube to add weight. Then I slowly reeled in. Nada
I tie on a #0 snap with no weight on 4lb mono, cast out & let it hit the bottom and then I bounce the rod preferably a ultralight 7ft medium fast and reel slowly, Good luck!🎣
I wonder if there isn't something which can be put on the hole in the trout from a hook to close it up and help it heal, like styptic pencils do for us (I shave with a straight razor so you KNOW I have them everywhere I may need them). I should call Yale and ask. Would feel good to help keep them alive just as wetting the hands before touching them and using the nylon net do to keep the slime from coming off. Trout are very slow to grow new slime coats so any chance of wiping it off is potential death for them. Also even though Rainbow trout aren't dumb and are fairly tough, their gills are ultra delicate (they are sometimes used to check water quality by placing them in some waterway then checking their gills 5 days later - Still pink? Safe water. Grey or Brown, goodbye poor fish). Never more than 15 seconds out of the water or else their gills suffer damage. That's not a joke nor and underestimate. 15 seconds out of the water maximum for Rainbow's!
Hey I know I'm a little late on the video but do you just cast it out and leave it or do you slowly reel. I'm new to all this but I have a local lake around me but I'm not having alot of luck with just swivels. Also is it basically just a drop shot where the weight goes down and the bait floats up past iy
How do i unhook the trout? Because everytime I catch one it swallows the hook and i have to be putting new power eggs every time,is there an easy way of removing the hook when they swallow it
Hey!! Maybe this is a good place to ask!! I have a pond with trout I stocked in the spring. Is this the easiest way to pull as many out as possible before winter? I have never fished before haha.
Fun day, sometimes it’s nice to chill and catch a few rather than beat the creek. How do you like that carbon x reel? They’re fairly reasonable priced and I was considering one. Thanks FH!
Hello Hawk!! Love the content! Question: is yellow the most effective color for powerbait? Or are there any other colors to consider? And also what would you think is the most effective, Powerbait eggs or Gulp! Egg salmons? Thanks!
Reel question. Do you like the Ultegra better then your stradic ci4? I have a stradic and a vanford and not sure if I want to give the ultegra a try on a new light weight set up
What is the power of your rod? I’m just getting into trout fishing, and am trying to decide whether or not I need to get a light/UL set-up, or if Medium will suffice.
I've had good luck with mediums. In the case of the case of my 6'6" Eagle Claw rod, the medium action is a medium light by any other manufacturer. With trout, line type and presentation are more important than what rod you're using. The 6'6" does a good job at getting your bait out there. I'll use shorter ultralights only in a creek fishing setting. Some guys will say that a lighter action rod leads to a more secure hook set as heavier action rods can pull the hook out of the fish's lips. I'll argue that's what "control" is for.
@@JakeWerkmeister Appreciate your guidance, man. What do you think about spinners/spoons as far as weight? I’m leaning more toward 1/8 and 1/4 oz, but I know some people use 1/12, 1/16, etc.
@@airmobiledivision7759 tbh, I haven't used them enough to come up with any type of absolute method. However, as a general rule of thumb I have noticed that when the bite is tough, smaller lures seem to work better. I typically use a 1/8. Trout are also finicky, so I've never found the "go bigger to tick em off method" to be particularly effective for the species. An argument can be made that a slightly larger spinner can work well in cloudy conditions. However, I find that if the rig ain't broke, don't change it.
Too easy 😂. But educational for a novice. Good thinking in helping get some fishermen excited!😋. I'll see you on the water eventually, we're too close. I need more spinner's.....

Things I have learned fishing a trout pond this year for the first time:
-stocking day is like shooting fish in a barrel
-trout love cooked shrimp and worms
-smaller baits and hooks are better
-trout ponds can get a lot of pressure, so sometimes a finesse rig like this is your best option
-the lighter the gear the better
-best fish I saw caught from the pond was on just a hook and worm that's it
-spinners and jigs if they are active, finesse rigs if they are not
-baby trout do not do well out of the water too long and being handled to much
-even 6000 brooks can hide in a water body this small
-check stocking reports to find stocked ponds
-don't just fish in one spot if you have the whole dock to yourself fish with your feet
-with this particular rig there is a good chance of throat hooking a fish and its best to keep them if that happens
-fish according to the weather some of the best days were the crappiest weather and some of best days were the nicest days of consistent weather patterns
-feeding baitfish flakes pellets and brine shrimp cubes creates a frenzy in front of your line and helps the smallest fish that are the foundation of an ecosystem like this
-it is very difficult to throat hook on a dropshot rig
-sometimes a classic setup will catch your PB
-the pond giants have been caught so many times and are so high up on the food chain they will not bother with whatever you throw because they could not care less
- floating power eggs over trout dough
-trout are typically not active at night
