Had an old timer named Ron help me perfect my trout set up and I caught 3 14 inch rainbow trout today. Even gave me a size 12 hook that caught 2 of the 3 fish👍
I was struggling trying to catch trout at my local lake I came across this video and followed it and went from months without a fish to three trout in one trip plus we were able to give the bleeders to the guy fishing next to me. Thank you!!!
This rig was taught to me by my uncle like 6 years ago I always teach it to anybody fishing for trout in pressured lakes like this one, way to pass the knowledge man👌
I use the same setup with one little extra. I use small plastic bead (like you get for make kids jewelry) between the swivel and weight. Gives a little cushion to your knot without out really adding any weight or resistance. Great video also.
I like that you gave that man your trout! There is something incredibly noble and honest about that, and the respect you have to not want your fish to go to waste. I commend you, sir!
Maybe it's because I'm a big baby... but the comradery in this video makes me so happy and emotional. Thank you for the information and your sweet and genuine love for these fish and other fishermen. You are awesome!
Great video! Loved seeing you give those fish to someone who will eat them and enjoy them. It’s a great feeling to help someone out and see how happy they are after an act of kindness. Thank you for making the fishing community a better place and thank you for thanking him for his service! You got a new subscriber!
I used this exact same setup and powerbait at a reservoir here in Utah and caught 11 rainbows between myself and 2 neighbors. Biggest one was about 18 inches.
I've fished for bass most of my life and only been trout fishing once, and that was almost forty years ago. Thanks for the info and I'll be putting your advice to the test this next week here in beautiful Colorado. BTW, I appreciate the way you treat the people you come into contact with. Thumbs up on that on.
You may wanna consider filing or bending your barbs down if you're releasing. That's what I do. You may lose 1 out of 5 fish you hook but, barbless hooks do much less damage.
I love how humble and simple your channel is man. Some of the other channels are so over the top. Not to say I don't hope your's doesn't grow or that you don't land some sweet sponsorships. But keepin it minimalistic definitely relates to the spirirt of being an angler.
I'm one of those fishermen who don't like to see fish suffer after being caught...that I'm going to keep , so I knock the fish hard on top of the head to knock it out . My needle nose pliers are heavy enough to knock it out if I hit fish with metal handle part..not needle end. Putting rope , metal chain , or a stick through its gills and leaving it in water to try and breathe seems cruel. It's suffering so I knock mine out and put it on stringer if water is cold or I put it on ice. I'm not a tree hugger but I want the least amount of suffering for what I just caught.
Fish usually don't have the ability to feel pain becasue thier brains are not developed enough but I think trout might be one of the super rare exceptions
I'm super new to fishing, know basically nothing. I just spent an entire day putting 3 little balls on the corner of a triple hook with a bobber and nothing else. I clearly don't know what i'm doing but i'm glad I watched this.
I haven’t seen any comments but I’m sure they’re here. But thank you for being kind and thanking that hero for his service. Great video and will for sure be trying this tactic in Pennsylvania!
@Jonah Wenger those store fish are not bled out and full of bacteria ,your eating cooked bacteria which equals parasites in your gut ,those fish are not dinner table fare? FYI
Thanks for the video. I never got into trout fishing. But going to give these Ohio spots a try. When they do the stocks this year. I’ll get me some power bait and try your technique
I went trout fishing over the weekend and there were people next to me at the lake just reeling in trout after trout. I saw they had filled those plastic, see thru bobbers with water and were able to cast much farther than me to access trout in the deeper, colder water. I changed my rig to theirs and limited out in 1 hour!...cheese or green power bait on a 3 foot leader.. and it doesn't fall off the treble hook as much as using weights. Have you heard of this rig?..the line still slides thru the bobber like a slip weight.
Yes. Float & Fly technique. Except instead of using a fly you're using powerbait. You would need to use sinking powerbait instead of floating powerbait. It is a good technique for Trout. I have heard of a lot of people doing well with it. I have never personally tried it though.
This is why I love the fishing community, everybody always wants to help whoever is around them, people enjoy helping others be successful and catch fish
Toolio Jones, the key is small hooks, lite line 2-6lb, and a slip rig like that. You don’t want trout to feel the weight or line. If they feel resistance the will normally drop the bait.
Thank you for clearly showing the set up. Just got into fishing and have Been trying to figure out the set up to catch the stock trout in my local pond. Definitely going to give it a go.
Yes they have stocked those this year and they where really nice fish and I use corn yellow and salmon peach with glitter at 14 it works real well along with orange when bobber fishing
Thank you for sharing your very nice Fishing Rig setup for catching stock Rainbow Trout : 1) two feet leader 2) #6 circle hook 3) Swivel connector 4) bullet simker 5) Yellow CORN Power Bait
When you’re fishing with circle hooks, never set the hook by jerking your rod up, it will most likely jerk the bait out of the fishes mouth, and it may get the hook stuck in his throat. The key for hooking fish correctly with circle hooks is, slowly start to move your rod sideways, and slowly start to reel while you’re moving your rod sideways, then start picking up speed reeling, and moving your rod sideways. That way, it will hook the fish in the corner of the mouth, every.. single.. time.. it works for me every time. Try that tip next time you go fishing with circle hooks.
We like to use power eggs because the trout swallow them and we can get them back when we clean them. Favorite colors are orange, chart, lemon lime and bubblegum. If we use the dough we add lots of rainbow glitter to it. Happy New Year!
Not sure why I am just now seeing this. I like using power eggs too! I can usually catch several Trout on the same power eggs. I've done the best with Sunrise (orange). Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
Our local state park here in Indiana was stocked with 750 rainbow trout in May '17. I have never fished for trout. I will now after watching this. Thanks for the trout tips. You have a new subscriber!
I have been using a 1/64 trout magnet jig with a pink trout magnet grub with yellow power bait. I haven’t gut hooked any trout with that setup. Good luck out there and have fun.
Been using that set up for years. I use the rainbow colors with glitter and the corn, both work in stained water. I also use 2 feet of 2lb fluorocarbon as my leader. Super light and they can’t see it.
I did a lot of trout fishing up in the hills of Northern California. Lake fishing that is. For that found that a small triple hook with garlic scented power bait worked the best. Never had any luck with the corn or any other power bait. Occasionally small cast masters worked really well, too.
While I understand your point, fish that die in the pond do not go to waste. It will eventually be eaten by other creatures in the pond. Nature knows how to handle it. Yes, I would prefer not to unnecessarily kill a fish I don't intend to eat. But it will be eaten.
I went out today and tried this exact setup. I caught a fish in the first 20 mins. Then a guy near me suggested the powerbait floating eggs amd he was dipping them in a grocery store jar of minced garlic. I added a heavier sinker due to wind and current and tested at the shore to see how they floated. They floated really well. So I casted it out and got an almost immediate strike. The friendly gentleman giving me advice was pulling them in left and right. I would catch 2 or 3 to every one I would catch. But we both were reeling them in. I was releasing my but I gut hooked one unfortunately and he was at his limited...so I keeped one. Next thing ya know I was at my limit. I haven't fished or caught a fish since I was 12 with my grandfather. I finally caught one today using your setup and it lead to making a friend and improving the setup for that pond I was fishing. Just wanted to share more fishing story, and your roll it had in today, and to say thanks for the advice. It got me started, and today was just outstanding. I am now hooked on fishing and look forward to many more adventures. Oh amd yes I got the rainbows home and stumbled my way through cleaning and filleting and then fried them up in olive oil with a simle lemon pepper battle and made homemade cocktail sauce and cole slaw. Dipped some in the cocktail sauce, and put some on a tortilla and added the coleslaw on top for a country style taco. Delicious. Thanks again for this video. If got me started on a journey that I hope NEVER ends.
Been using that rig for years, for power bait I love the Berkley’s chartreuse trout bait. When they are freshly stocked or hard to catch I coat it in Hatchery dust.
You just gotta get the right information and fish the right spots. It can be a big learning curve but once you get to know the water’s around your area, it’ll click. Even then though, the greatest fishermen still get skunked every once in. a while.

I use those sometimes too. They work great. Like you said, a lot less hassle and they stay on your hook very well. I've caught my limit on the same 2 Power Eggs before. Thanks!

When you’re fishing with circle hooks, never set the hook by jerking your rod up, it will most likely jerk the bait out of the fishes mouth, and it may get the hook stuck in his throat. That way, it will hook the fish in the corner of the mouth, every.. single.. time.. it works for me every time. Try that tip next time you go fishing with circle hooks.

I'm not sure if they still make them, but my favorite color was "sunrise." I caught the most Trout on that color.
I use a small bead in between the bullet sinker and barrel swivel. Nice fish!
Nothing better than giving someone fish and them appreciating it like that!
