I LOVE the fact that you always mention substitutes for less common ingredients, and always look for ways to make cooking more approachable. Such a breath of fresh air, compared to certain other food youtubers. There's no reason to make cooking harder than it needs to be, and gatekeeping is only going to discourage people from ever trying. That's why this is probably my favourite channel to go to for recipes for almost all Asian food.

I agree. Most youtubers make it seem like you're only destined or limited to certain ingredients when different spices or ingredients make an equal or even better substitute.

Aaron almost always mentions substitutes - it's one of my favourite things about this channel, to be honest! Certain other cooking youtubers drive me utterly and completely nuts with their "my way is the right way and everything else is HORRIBLE" mentality (I won't mention names, but there are a couple of specific ones I have in mind). There's zero reason to gatekeep cooking, of all things - and Aaron is doing a wonderful job of making it MORE approachable, rather than less so.

Until I explained to them it was tofu. They ate second helpings they loved it so much!

Love it, will have to try.
But a few questions, I am guessing we can swap the chillies for some spicy capsciums? We grow a few that have a kick, but aren't hot like a chilli. Also is there a swap for the corn syrup? Not something I see often down under (might be in the shops but never use it.) We have pretty much nearly everything else as staples in the kitchen.

I made this with minced pork and beef-mix. Also added some canned mushroom. It was super-delicious!

Next recipe added to section "Done with Aaron and Claire". Delicious! And now I'm even more confident in kitchen thanks to your tips. I've replaced some ingredients like corn syrup with maple syrup, corn starch with potato starch and chicken bouillon powder with hondashi. That's just what I had in my pantry 😉 and it was awesome! thanks!
