If you have been diagnosed with fatty liver.......don't panic too much! I completely reversed mine in a few months. I went scorched earth on it and cut out red meat, alcohol, sugar, carbs, bread, basically everything that is bad for your body. I started doing intermittent fasting 16:8 and I started eating waaaay more vegetables and salads. All of my blood work numbers dropped dramatically and my last test all numbers were normal. I could tell a difference in my health in just 2 or 3 months when I started eating clean. I had already been exercising for years so I was a little surprised that I developed fatty liver as I was not big at all. I haven't drank soda or sugary drinks for years. I think it just built up over time from a bad diet and alcohol on the weekends (mostly beer). I feel so much better now that my liver is normal and I have a lot more natural energy. Anyway you have to change your diet and eat cleaner and you have to cut waaaaay down on the alcohol. For sure you don't want it progressing to cirrhosis of the liver. That is not reversible. Edit: For those wondering how I cut down on alcohol. I did it with non-alcohol beer. Some of them have a tiny amount of alcohol, like .05 but it didn't seem to affect anything and I limited it to 2 drinks at a time. At least I got the taste of beer and at parties I just brought my own in a cooler.
Beer is really worst kind of alcohol. It is starter point for metabolic disease. But kinda sneaks in backwards, by the time you see it in bloodwork it already fucked up your liver.
That's really good to know. I am not over weight but I didn't eat well, nor did I exercise. I just found out my liver is swollen as well as my gal bladder. The doctor said it was fatty liver. I was asking the doc what to do about it, do I eat better? What do I eat? Well she basically said "Eat better" and quickly rushed me off the phone....sigh. Now I am scrambling to figure out what to do. I started to exercise but I will take it further and cut out sugar. Do you know any good sources or places that list what I should or should not be eating? Because my doctor told me nothing.
@@gphillips3775 Both of mine were around 50. You are ok but you have to try hard to get the numbers down. Your liver is resilient. It can repair itself.
I had a fatty liver diagnosis a couple of years ago due to my blood work coming back with high counts. An imaging test showed it and once that was found, I went to work doing some investigating on how to reverse it. My downfall was sugar. Being that I quit smoking 30 years ago, I picked up a sugar addiction. Not good. I cut all desserts and sweets of any kind from my diet, went on a strict beans, greens, fish & chicken diet. Even my pizza is a Veggie pizza. Now I'm 70lbs lighter which is the weight I was 33 years ago when I got married and feeling fantastic. My "go-to" favorite dinner that I serve twice a week is my 4-Bean soup. I might also add the spouse, after seeing the weight fall off, joined me and lost the 50lbs. he gained after we married. Dr. Taz, I'm behind you 150% with your suggestions. Just change your diet. 😉
I have had it off and on for 6 years. I have a family history of high triglycerides and I have them as well. I’m not considered overweight. The pain has been getting worse over the years. I have been on blood pressure meds since I was 30. I’m now 56. I am also borderline diabetic. I had gestational diabetes with my son.
I was just diagnosed with NAFLD after 8 years of chronic symptoms and three surgeries later (repairing other ongoing problems that occurred as a result). This video was extremely informative and helpful for me so I can feel confident in my next steps. 😊

Well my BMI is 20 and I don’t drink, smoke, or consume sugar. Blood sugar is low. I developed a fatty liver after chemotherapy and possibly from all the Tylenol and supplements I have taken. I could lose 10 more pounds without getting into the underweight category. I eat all the foods you talk about on a regular basis. I’m even weird enough to consume raw garlic and onion simply because I enjoy them.
I think I’m in a similar category, I don’t drink and eat pretty healthy but I still have fatty liver. I’ve got a health condition and have had to take medication in the past and wonder if this has an impact. Can I ask what supplements did you take? Thanks.
Supplements don't really do any good! It's all abt eating less to no carbs... any form of rice & bread, potatoes, pastries, pasta & pizza- anything with grains & starch to it... avoid it cuz they all transform into glucose & frustose & stored in ur liver... i sacrificed eating just meats & beef liver (superfood) & used olive oil instead of all those industrialized seed oils like canola, vegetable, corn, peanut, saffron oils for frying.. my AST has gone down from 100 to within the normal range in abt 2mos... this may sound crazy to u but animal fat like ghee or bacon grease are much healthier than those seed oils i have mentioned. I’ve been having that little aching pain in that area of my abdomen for months- I ignored it because I have had so many other things going on … with four family members passed away this year + my senior dog- most recently I was caring for my grandmama when her breast cancer metastasized to her brain and my family and I made pacts to take our health more seriously. I had also ignored it because I have anxiety, and it seems like so often when I bring a concern to a physician… that will get brought up, and it feels like they are condescending to me because I have an anxiety diagnosis in my chart. I promised my aunt I would bring it up to my doctor to be on the safe side- my us indicated a fatty liver and some stuff and a part they couldn’t see and my AST/ALT/ and glucose were elevated, so that progressed me to a CT. Thank you for this informative video, Doctor! My MRI came back with an enlarged liver (17 cm) and fatty liver. I am a female in my mid-40’s. I am not overweight, I don’t drink alcohol or soda/sugary drinks. I don’t eat gluten, and I do eat lots of fruit. My diet doesn’t have enough vegetables. I do take a lot of anti inflammatory medication. My liver enzymes are perfect. My cholesterol and blood sugar are normal and had always been normal. What is required for the fatty liver diagnosis? Aside from decreasing fruit and increasing vegetables, is there anything else I can do? Are liver enzymes supposed to be impacted for this diagnosis or is the MRI itself sufficient enough?
Reduce your fruit intake - completely. Glucose and fructose are the two worst damaging components to the liver (outside of alcohol). Fat isn't actually a contributor - except trans fats (which are carcinogens anyway).
17 cm isn't alarming. But you need to cut down on the fats, alcohol and sugar you consume (don't touch anything with sugar even with a barge pole). Give it 3 months and you should be fine. P.S: I was diagnosed with fatty liver grade 1. I reversed it in about 4 months.

I am 5’5, 112lb, 25 inch waist, vegan, who doesn’t drink. So I am so confused on why I have NAFLD. Do you have any thoughts, advice, or suggestions on what I should do? Anything would be truly appreciated.
I'm not obese, I'm at 19% body fat and still got 19% body fat. I have always had a weakness for anything with sugar and in the last couple of years have been drinking way more caffeine than before. Found out that I had it when was having gall bladder pain and went in for an ultrasound. Also have a lesion on my liver and still waiting to find out what that is all about. Since cutting out caffeine altogether and trying to reduce the amount of sugar intake and reducing milk consumption, at least my gall bladder pain seems to have dissipated. Hoping for a reversal of fatty liver disease as well.
Hi Dr Tax. Thanks for the info. Does HBV contribute to NAFLD? My count is insignificant and they wouldn't place me on medication, yet, I was diagnosed of fatty liver.
Thank you DrTazMD for this great resource I’m wondering if either low dose Iron 40 mg every other day or the apples I’ve recently added to my diet could be causing elevated liver enzymes? Otherwise I’m all organic, fish, water and veg only, no sugar alcohol or processed foods- extremely clean diet.
I've been taking co-codomol (Paracetamol 500mg/Codeine 30mg) daily for a couple years now while waiting for kidney stone treatment, since covid the nhs appointment times are ridiculous, I had a blood test few weeks ago at my doctors and my ALT was very high!! I told my doctor my worries about the results and what the medication could be causing and she said thats not the cause but the research I've done online say that too much paracetamol can cause this, im so confused
Hi is this a hundred percent reversible? Or once you have it it kind of comes andows almost like a flare up? Information online suggests there is no way to cure it And there's a decreased life expectancy by 4 to 5 years. Is there any truth to that? Do you recommend a dietitian or nutrition to help with diet?? Are there any studies that show that semi glue tides help in this situation?
I wonder if it's possible to be starting to develop NAFLD if fasting glucose (87) and HbA1c (5.1) are good? My liver enzymes are starting to trend up despite having very good glucose numbers
You can still overeat or eat too much of certain foods. I’m big into exercise too and it’s preventing many issues but I have to be honest, I eat a fair amount of dark chocolate. My BMI is well within the normal range but I’m going to take this seriously. Exercise is awesome but it only takes 5 minutes to negate a days work eating pizza!
Due to my Bad Habits, My liver Reports are getting worse but thank god for this video that I watched and followed this regime along with that I have used Planet Ayurveda Herbal Supplements for the last 3 months & Now I have great relief.
Just had an ultrasound that may be showing fatty liver... have been watching sugar, overall fat and salt intake, rarely drink alcohol, have taken Turmeric pretty regularly for prob close to 2 years... probably take in too many calories a day, and I love cheese, so my intake of saturated fat might be a little high as well. I used to eat tons of pizza but have cut way back on that. I also take a vitamin D/C/zinc supplement, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm for my knee, and I drink a supposedly healthier energy drink that has 200 grams of caffeine 4 times a week. The biggest thing is I'm overweight and need to lose at least 100 lbs (saw that 25% body fat goal in your video). I've had a hard time exercising for years because of my knee pain. I'm finally starting to watch my calories more though, and I've been exercising 1-2 times in the gym a week -- which I want to increase (saw that in your video too)! I'll start to focus more on the stuff you mentioned in this video and see if it helps! If I can remember I'll come back and give an update!

My son just got diagnosed with an enlarged liver. He is 41, 6 ft tall and 315 pounds. He has started exercising and used to weigh 350. Is it too late for him to reverse his fatty liver condition by exercising, watching his diet and dropping his weight? Also can you suggest a good meal planner/cookbook that he could follow to help him get on the right track.
Can you follow one simple formula. Have only fruits in breakfast 8am-12pm, weight of fruits after peel off should be 1% of body weight. 2nd raw vegetables/salad, like cucumber, capsicum, brocakly means whatever he can have in raw form. Have in same quantity 1% of body weight It would be too much so have half portion before hving lunch. Half portion before having dinner. There are chances that he will full after hving salad only. Not even milk products like milk curd cheese He will be absolutely fine in 3 months, it's my guarantee

very helpfull, keep posting your veidoes because i have also having liver infection
thank you!
Omega-3 fats; deeply pigmented foods; Garlic; beans & lentils; matcha tea; turmeric, milk thistle.
What about choline?
Caffeine actually has a positive effect according to many studies
Yeah also milk thisle has shown no difference vs placebo and can be toxic if used too much
Great information and very helpful 🙌
Glad you think so!
I am 5’5, 112lb, 25 inch waist, vegan, who doesn’t drink. So I am so confused on why I have NAFLD. Do you have any thoughts, advice, or suggestions on what I should do? Anything would be truly appreciated.
The vegan diet is high-carb and high-sugar. Adding some lean meat might help.
Da a HbA1c test and CT scan
The funny thing about NAFLD is that you can get it when you are slim. You can be slim on the outside and fat on the inside....
very true!!
What are you eating? What are you drinking? Avoid glucose and fructose and you're pretty much gravy.
What about severe fibrosis/early cirrhosis?
This is me .
I power walk 16km - 21.5km a DAY.
Usually eat once or twice a day.
How tf are my Liver ALT enzymes elevated???????
If I can remember I'll come back and give an update!
awesome- keep me posted
Any news?
My fatty liver is not cured😢
I'm vegan
I did intermittent fasting, daily exercise, diet, good sleep, meditation, only homemade healthy food but everything is useless to me.
My age is now 18, height 5'6" and weight 70kg.
While my fatty liver spotted my age was 15 , height 5'4" and weight 66.4
Now I'm suffering from various problems of fatty liver. And it can't cured.
I think it will be liver failure soon.
There’s your problem! STOP being vegan. It’s killing you. 👍
Same here 😢
ohh.. which vitamins are you on ? supplements play a big role I think
@@joyoflearning2124 I didn't take any supplements

I did not know I had this until I had gall bladder issues. I had a Ultra sound and it showed I had mild coarsening of the liver. Can this be reversed?
yes!!!
Hi there
I was diagnosed with this! I feel so ill! I got milk thistle it makes me somewhat ill do I continue??? I have RA n was on methotrexate for a while I am not taking it anymore
I am so so bloated!!!?! Is this water?????? It’s so bad I pee all night idk
I had a fibroscan today and my result was 17.2, I think from what I’ve looked up, this places me in the cirrhosis category. Is there any hope for me to reverse it with good diet?
How are you now ,in this reversible
Exercise and have a healthy diet, eat less carbohydrates and fatty foods as well as maintaining a heathy BMI and weight may assist with fatty liver disease
Mine is inherited.

DR TAZ, When eating Cruciferous veggies its hard for my GI system to break down the Fiber in Cruciferous veggies, what do you recommend doing or what is equivalent to Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, Brussels sprouts that I can take or how to reduce the Fiber in these types of veggies to help out with my NAFLD liver issues?
Do they still bother you when you cook them?
@@MoniMeka yes they do I can't digest the fiber in Cruciferous veggies or digest the compounds
Can you juice them and use a digestive enzyme?
@@mpmluvsu what will juicing do to the cruciferous veggies? The fiber in cruciferous veggies is a very hard fiber for the body to break down.
If you have a high speed blender it will break down the cellular walls of the hard vegetables. But it’s just a suggestion. Please do your research.
Can it be reversed if it was mainly caused by radiation?
Was wondering can high copper levels cause NAFLD?
Yes, any heavy metals can.
We need a permanent cure
I think I have this 🤐
Not Turmeric
Been 2 years went from abnormal results to normal blood work. I was diagnosed with moderated to severe fatty liver. Keep going to the doc get told my tests look great and to eat more healthy and try to avoid alcohol. How often can I take an ultrasound? I at least want to know if it’s halfway healed
I'm not a doctor but I read every 6 months for an ultrasound.
@@sharonv4633 they won’t. They just do blood work and if it gets worse they will do one. Blood tests are normal but you can have normal blood and still have liver disease
I was diagnosed via ultrasound as a teenager. Recently got a liver function panel and my levels are normal… should I go for another ultrasound just to be safe or is the liver function panel sufficient?
I would just talk to your doctor. I would ask for the ultrasound if I was you.
My son just got diagnosed with an enlarged liver. He is 41, 6 ft tall and 315 pounds. He has started exercising and used to weigh 350. Is it too late for him to reverse his fatty liver condition by exercising, watching his diet and dropping his weight? Also can you suggest a good meal planner/cookbook that he could follow to help him get on the right track.
check out my 21 day belly fix
Can you follow one simple formula.
Have only fruits in breakfast 8am-12pm, weight of fruits after peel off should be 1% of body weight.
2nd raw vegetables/salad, like cucumber, capsicum, brocakly means whatever he can have in raw form. Have in same quantity 1% of body weight
It would be too much so have half portion before hving lunch. Half portion before having dinner. There are chances that he will full after hving salad only. That's absolutely fine. Main food is just for the taste of toynge it dosent help.
And during this diet no non-veg allowed. Not even milk products like milk curd cheese
He will be absolutely fine in 3 months, it's my guarantee
My husband was the same as 350ib, his thyroid was not working he got medicine and he was diabetic he used ozempic, drink lots of water and exercise he is 240 ib. Your son needs to see his glucose and thyroid, and apnea also. I forgot my husband developed apnea due to weight. Wish luck to your son.
100 million americans? that is 1/3 Americans and almost half of adults
How do I know if there's too late to fix my liver and kidneys? My fingernails have started whitening, and my pee is a little bit darker and is sticky to the touch. Is that due to glucose in the urine?
Yes
EAT CLEAN by only sloping at stores with only clean items only
