Best QHD Ultrawide for a Productive Mac Setup? (LG 34WN780)

  • I used to have (and love) the 49" LG superultrawide... until it had an accident. The latest ultrawide I'm testing is LG's 34" $600 QHD beauty. There's a LOT to like here (including massive productivity gains) and a few small annoyances.

Just a note on 01:07, QHD is not 4K, rather, it is 2K. UHD, on the other hand, is 4K.

I got a variant of this monitor with USB-C, a curved display and a more advanced VESA mount (34WP88C-B). Honest first reaction is actually fairly negative to be honest. The brightness and resolution of my MacBook Pro has me spoiled. Text just looks slightly "fuzzy" compared to what I've gotten used to and the brightness is just slightly low. Too bad as the screen real estate itself is awesome. Toying with the idea of going to a 34" 4K UltraFine instead. Wish the 5k-6k options were more affordable.

I used a similar 34'' ultrawide in the office and i would say if you do a lot of zoom screen share, ultrawide format is not for you. I would rather have dual 27'' and just share one monitor and have my slack and zoom controls on the other monitor. I know you can share designated "screen area" in zoom; but it's much faster to have one dedicated monitor for screen share then to have to draw the sharing area every single time you share your screen.
