Being able to watch a video and take notes on the same monitor is just so nice for studying. Or if I am following instructions in a browser window I don't need to copy something, move a window and then paste it everything is just right there for me. Might not be multitasking but space makes the one task a lot more comfortable for sure.

They don't really make you more productive, but the screen real estate is insanely convenient for software engineers for example. On my Samsung neo g9, I can open 6 terminals side by side and which gives me a lot more flexibility when looking through a project.

@@NickKendall it does make me more productive if it allows me to have combinations of two applications opened and visible enough to be comfortable to work on each without constantly maximizing and minimizing. Combos of 2 between email, browser, excell, photoshop, illustrator, code editor, image viewer, etc... also even opening notepad and leave it visible for a while can save me time. That's productivity to me :)
Note: I use a pen tablet monitor for Photoshop (or drawing apps), and having the possibility of combos of 2 other apps on the other monitor really helps, if not to save time, at least for the convenience.

This is a great video, and applies well for people who work with excel/PDFs on a daily basis. They're tremendously helpful for quick comparisons between two excel workbooks, not quite multitasking but very helpful.
For gaming, ultrawide shines best with 3rd person games like RDR2, Uncharted 4, and racing/other 3rd person shooters.

I've been using ultrawide monitors for a decade, and I recently switched one out for a 28" 3:2 monitor from BenQ, and honestly, my productivity has shot up. It's so much more comfortable. I find that 16:9 is just awkward for everything, 16:10 not much better.... so 2.4:1 was surely great with all of that horizontal space... in theory. But, I don't think it is. After using these large ultrawides for so long long, I think that most work and workflows tend to be vertical rather than horizontal. Having a physical demarcation between apps which run at full screen is somehow cognitively more natural.
With the new monitor being 3:2 aspect ratio, it seems larger in person than the 34" ultrawides I also use. (I got the BenQ RD280U)

Once you go ultra wide you can't go back. I can't anyway. Curved screen takes some time getting used to, straight lines aren' t 'straight', but that's no issue for me, could be depending on what you're doing.
If it takes too much space, get a 3rd party stand that clamps at the back of your desk. There are loads around.

This is an interesting video! However, I think there might be a different perspective on how ultrawide monitors support productivity. Having multiple windows open isn’t always about multitasking or switching between tasks. Often, a single task-like writing a report-requires access to several resources simultaneously, such as a document editor, a spreadsheet, and research materials. In these cases, it’s more about streamlining a focused workflow than multitasking. Ultrawide monitors can be especially helpful for workflows like this, where having everything visible at once enhances efficiency.

You said you don't think is more productive but for me its gonna save a lot of time, i can code and run the hardware simulation at the same time on multiple tabs without minimizing each tab thats a good thing. it save a lot of time for software developers because the screen space is really a matter like referring multiple pages on different books at the same time without closing and reopening it

hi man sorry for taking your time but i had couple of questions about ultra wides since i was considering buying one. 1- does a 3440*1440 monitor supports 2560*1440p and 2560*1080 without issues (since i may wanna play games that may be demanding) 2- which one would you buy a 32 inch 2560*1440p or a 34 inch 3440*1440 for basically the same price for gaming purposes 3- if i decide to play on 2560*1080 (Ultra wide FHD instead of Ultra wide 1440p) would it be noticeably blurry or ugly ?

Thanks for the video! I interested in buying a similar LG screen, maybe the 40” inches. Do you recommend to have a laptop connected to it or Mac mini is sufficient? I’m a little worried, another screen be too much screen for my eyes.

    • @NickKendall
      @NickKendall  Рік тому +1

No problem! It’s really personal preference; I like having my laptop open because I like the extra screen. But the monitor will still work even if you have the laptop closed! So if you just want to use the monitor, you can 😊

What desk mat are you using!? I looks so nice and "minimalist" especially when compared to my corsair mat, despite looking nice. I feel like the one seen in this video would match the rest of my room that I'm currently re-themeing (is that a word?)

I am ordering an LG ultra wide. I don’t have a MacBook Pro I use windows. But one thing I’m stuck with is how can I drag screens from my laptop to my ultra wide. Is there an app? I’m having a hard time finding a video because I don’t know what it’s called 🤦🏻‍♂️

Do you mean just moving your apps to the ultra-wide? Just drag them across the screen, no apps required :)

Looking to get my self a curved ultrawide 34 inch monitor or dual 27 inch monitors. What would you recommend?
I’ve been having a hard time deciding.
This is mainly for work (Google chrome tabs, pdfs and web surfacing, multitasking) and would be supported by a Mac air M1. I don’t really game on monitors and not really looking to game on it.

Hmm good question; I personally love having no bezels in the middle but dual 27in would be a lot of screen which would be nice. Have you tried going to a local tech store and having a look in person to get a feel for it?
