Because Palpatine had help arriving lol
He just needed a lil more time, like my neighbor told the rental office 🤣🤣 🤣
I think Yoda's loss is best explained as his inability to OVERCOME Sidious, not him actually losing the battle itself. There is a statement about Yoda beginning to grow weaker while Sidious grew stronger, but I'm not sure if that had only to do with their respective intrinsic strengths as much as it did the current circumstances. The Jedi purge and the dark side taking over, IIRC, were said to have weakened Yoda while strengthening Palpatine in one source (forgot which). There's a good chance that played into the outcome of the duel beyond what's included in the novel alone. Plus, Yoda's goal in this fight was to kill Sidious. All Sidious needed to do to succeed was survive. Yoda failed in his goal while Palpatine succeeded in his. In other words, I don't think he lost in the typical sense: the actual outcome was a draw, but in that fact, Yoda failed his mission. There's a lot to this fight, and I think its complexity is second only to the one between Mace and Palpatine.
One theory I have is that at 9:20, Yoda realized that not only him and Palpatine are too evenly matched, but he also had a vision of Palpatine being defeated in the future by Anakin. Also, he needed to train Luke to make sure he would be able to defend himself and turn Anakin back to the light side of the force. So he used the force to end the battle, but that made him fall down to the ground. In the end, even though he envisioned Palpatine being defeated in the future, he's upset that he couldn't stop Palpatine himself to prevent everything that he's going to do
Yoda didn't have the "Eye of the Tiger." The Sith headed by Palpatine were hungry for a beatdown. Yoda got beat the same way Rocky did against Clubber in their first fight. Yoda had to regroup and employ another strategy to win which culminated in training Luke.
Dude, I'm dyin'!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The duel was a draw.
Clubber Lang would beat both their heads in. 😂 force or not, light saber or not 😂❤ I'd pity the fools ❤
@lordofpain3476 kids speaking some actual facts here. Qui Gon went against him and built Obi from the guide of Dooku who strayed. Never thought about it like that. 🫡
Hey @RetneysHolocron - I just want to say you're a really good storyteller. I enjoy your delivery.
Thank you so much! 🙏
Yoda had to make a tactical withdrawal. He didn’t lose he had to survive in order to restore the Jedi order .
Exactly.
tactical withdraw is retreating before you get beat down which is in fact a loss
He lost Yoda Fled Palpatine wanted to continue therefor Palpatine won the fight this is just cope.
He lost
If he didn’t lose he wouldn’t retreat
Something to consider is, even if he prevailed over Palpatine - what then? The Jedi had been thoroughly tarnished in the minds of most citizens. Their image and moral authority was gone. And I doubt the Coruscant Guard were going to just throw up their hands and go along with Yoda's version of events. Chips or no chips.
It was a great fight
Up until today, ive always read it as "Rodneys" Holocron. Lol thanks alot, public school system! Great video as always!!
Yeah, mean, Emperor Paper Plane was trained all this and yet nobody told us that until now. Thanks again, public school. We've always wanted to be taught the same crap again and again.😂😂😂
The light Saber battle in show motions is awesome
I don't think Yoda lost, Sidious had more troops coming to aid him in the fight. Yoda would of been out numbered. If it was a 1v1 in a flat plane without all the obstacles preventing them from dueling properly I strongly believed Yoda would of won. Simply because when Sidious fired the lightning directly in Yoda's face and it seemed like Yoda started getting overwhelmed and Sidious began to think he was about to overwhelm Yoda, Yoda turns and looks at him with a look that says "No bitch, this lightning ain't shit" before deflecting it back, the only problem is Sidious went flying toward the Senate podiums and Yoda went flying to the ground.
Yoda lost
Yoda disarmed Palpatine so technically he won the light saber duel. The Sith defeated the Jedi and the result of the duel wouldn't have been enough to reverse this. That's why Yoda retreated.
@Justs99171 Failed I have said Yoda to Bail Organa meaning Yoda lost.
@@hopduncan7905 Have your own opinion about it, but my opinion still stands. Even when Yoda first entered and took out the red guards with a simple tap, Palpatine tried to run away and Yoda said and I quote "If so powerful you are, why leave?" and Sidious said. "You'll not stop me, Lord Vader will become more powerful than either of us." he wasn't even confident in himself at this point, he was thinking Vader would be the most powerful sith the galaxy has ever seen if Sidious died to Yoda. Which is why Yoda said "Faith in your new apprentice misplaced may be, as in your faith in the dark side."
@Jtb1122own What I said wasn't an opinion. It was in the movie, and as you pointed out, Palpatine says You will not stop me. And Yoda does not stop him. I myself would have liked to seen Yoda strike Palpatine in the knee with his Saber before the duel ended
so when we next see him in ROTJ walking with a cane, we would know why and not just because he is old but yeah,Yoda Lost.
I read the book yoda left because it wasn't meant for him to win it was the skywalker legacy. Thats what he saw when he finally saw the whole picture.
I don't agree, everyone seems to overlook that last part where yoda looks at Sidius with confidence and Sidius displays nothing but fear and defeat at that moment. The power blast of the force was Sidius salvation.
Disney said it didn’t happen 😂
@@weneedchange9248
Who cares
Yoda Fans will straight up take everything that happens out of context to try to put him over whereas if he was THAT powerful Sidious would’ve been defeated right there. Sidious let him think he had the upper hand and then began overpowering Yoda, Yoda figured out that Sidious was toying with him, left and then went to Dagobah. That’s the REAL story. Sidious was not in “defeat” as you guys are claiming.
@@themightofgeburah5882
I'm not saying yoda won, I merely said Sidius felt fear of losing at that point.
@@JohnGrove310lol I agree with u bro 😂
The only thing better than reading the book, is listening to the audio book. Great video. Thanks.
During the fight, Yoda realized that he wasn't powerful enough to beat Palpatine and everything already messed up, there is nothing to recover for Jedi order. So he focused only for survival best he could do..
Yoda had over 800 years give or take of jedi training and couldn't put palpatine out of his misery. Tsk tsk* and then you have mace, which came the closest
Mace won. If anakin hadn’t turned we wouldn’t be having any of these conversations
Agreed. He definitely had Palpatine on the ropes. I feel that if Mace killed him. He’d have to deal with Anakin somehow. That would have been messy.
@marquiswallace9957 "you sure you want to do this Master Skywalker?" There goes the end of the fight right there. Anakin gets what he wants then and the galaxy is safe
You have to consider that In Revenge of the Sith, Order 66 was enacted and many on the light side were extinguished. This likely had a profound effect on Yoda, similar to when the Planet of Alderaan was destroyed and Obi Wan felt it.
Pure speculation! Enjoy
Lore from the novelization, my guy!
the duel was for the galaxy and yoda lost. i agree with you
Yoda disarmed Palpatine so he lost what? Not the light saber duel. You could call the encounter a draw and the war a loss, but the light saber duel was a win for Yoda.
They would fight for eternity and the duel would never end till Sidious does something underhanded to break the stalemate lol
That's a load of shit. Yoda disarmed Palpatine. Palpatine got disarmed by two different Jedi - Mace Windu and Yoda.
@@Justs99171 Mace Windu lol Cool that means nothing. Yoda and Sidious would duel for eternity end of story.
@@MistahJay7 that's an unsubstantiated claim and the contrary was proven. Yoda disarmed Darth Sidious.
@@Justs99171 I AGREE 2 many stuopid people here
The ROTS novelisation is no longer canon. I always thought the novelisation contradicted the Revenge of the Sith film.
Yoda pretty much was beating Palps for the most part. It was the arena they were fighting in that was the X-factor and the main reason Yoda lost.
Sidious didn’t have his lightsaber, it was knocked away before he didn’t lightning blast on yoda in the arena
Yoda disarmed him
So yoda flee, because he thought if he make Palpatine think he’s dead so the rule of the sith would perish too. Since you can’t defeat the darkness as well as the light. So in order to stop the darkness completely, the Jedi must die then the sith too (that must be what yoda was thinking)? Honestly, that seems pointless since the light and dark side of the force is eternal & removing one or both sides is impossible.
I love when people do ridiculous think pieces on this subject. When the answer is simply the fact that , how would there be a star wars a new hope,if yoda won?
Because he couldn't grab the ledge. Duh
Yeah i agree yoda lost the duel he admits it but yoda was well connected with the lightside that told him tobwait dor luke
It was a stalemate. And Yoda fell too deep within the senate arena, it was not gonna be effective or worth it to climb all the way up again.
You know what no one out there has ever theorized about? What did Mace Windu mean when he told Palpatine “not yet” when he went to arrest him in Revenge of the Sith? Idk if it’s explained in canon or not but I’m really curious about that.
Ofc if the answer is obvious and I don’t see it for whatever reason pls feel free to criticize me
P.S. first comment
I always felt the same about that line too. I guess Mace thought Palp didn’t have complete control of the senate as long as the Jedi were still around which they were at that point.
@@JonBecker81could be, that line always trips me up though lol
Windu: The Senate will decide your fate.
Palp: I AM the Senate!
Windu: Not yet.
⁉️⁉️🤨
Palpatine did lose his light saber he was disarmed off screen look it up that's why he resorted to force powers so.yoda won the lightsaber duel and palpatine won on force power
I don't know why people keep on saying Yoda couldn't beat palpatine due to the fact that palpatine broke contact and started throwing things when he saw he couldn't. Best Yoda so he can make his escape so it's not about that. Yoda couldn't beat him. It's the fact that palpatine couldn't beat Yoda and he's a coward
Yoda disarmed Palpatine prior to him hurling pods at Yoda
See I thought Yoda ran because during his duel with Sidious he seen a vision of him training Luke on Dagobah and knew Luke was the only hope against Vader and Palpatine. Luke didn’t defeat Palpatine but he pulled his father back to the light side and Anakin Skywalker killed Palpatine. Making Luke a legend among Jedi.
2 things:
1.Palpi didnt have his saber at the end, yoda did beat him in lightsaber duel. That was confirmed by Lucas.
2.I always felt this reason is a bit lazy, because if you think about it yoda was waay older than 800yo,meaning thats a long time to pick up special tricks. So while i get the whole awakening stuff by yoda,i find it hard to believe yoda couldnt defeat sidious.Yoda was nearly 900yo,sidious what,60?Yes Sidious was incredibly powerful but yoda was just as powerful in the force too.Yoda taught the entire order, sidious was taught by 1 master! So i highly doubt yoda couldnt kill him,but it is what it is.
All that about Yodas longevity and experience is true, except Sidious was too much for any one jedi. Sidious could diminish thousands of light side user’s abilities in the force all at the same time. Yoda should’ve destroyed Dooku and didn’t. Him winning against Sidious was way too much a stretch.
@@frankdees507no one jedi could beat lol did you forget mace windu
On film. Yoda slightly edged him in every way. Just barely. But! The novel was correct! They had lost before he was born
I don't think so it was pretty much even
Yoda 🤨 did not lose his saber, he put it away to fight equally.
Palpatine blasts his saber out of his hand with lightning
Paps whooped him
Palpatine lost the light saber duel - he was disarmed. That's why he resorted to hurling the pods and then force lightning.
Only thing that was bullshit was the start of the fight. There's no way sidous would have got the jump on yoda at the start with that first lightening hit
Should have brought Obi own to help.
You saw how quickly Dooku got rid of Obi Wan both times him and Anakin fought him. Think how fast Palps would have destroyed Obie Wanneven there with Yoda. The only reason Obi Wan was able to defeat Anakin/Vader is because he knew every one of his moves and strategies plus the personal connection he had with him.
Palpatine is faster.
Then how did Yoda disarm him?
Because it wouldn’t make sense in the sequels
Start making theories about how Rey was born lol😂
All I got from this is Yoda is a coward
You should get some help with that stupidity of yours
yoda was not chosen to defeat the sith
The fight was a draw, there was a bigger picture
Nah, the duel was a stalemate. Yoda simply decided the duel wasn't a viable path to victory.
No it wasn’t. Sidious played around with Yoda and Yoda left when he found that out. The Sith were superior, they had won. End of story.
Stop meatriding Yoda, every single source from the Lucasfilm Team and the writers from Revenge Of The Sith makes it clear that Sidious was the stronger of the two and he overwhelmed Yoda, he had the highground. Yoda conceded and left.
Stop making excuses for the goblin.
“But Sidious showed fear when Yoda was combatting his lightning!”
Another plan of Sidious, he exaggerated his expression and gave Yoda hope he could win, letting Yoda get VERY close so he could take him out with more ease and assert his dominance. Yoda was surprisingly familiar with this game and decided the winning move is just not to play… the Sith had evolved in ways the Jedi of that order could not have prepared for, Darth Bane may have died but his plan lived on and had ultimately succeeded.
@@themightofgeburah5882 absolutely zero evidence of that. Pretty sure yoda even disarmed palps, and that's why he chose to focus on using the force against yoda.
@@drakethesnek6429 “absolutely zero evidence of that”
Matt Martin
George Lucas

Scenario Writers
… “Pretty sure Yoda even disarmed Palps” Sidious is a Force-Wielder level opponent, he’s literally crushed Summa-Verminoths… taking a lightsaber away from him means… nothing…
If Yoda was this much of a threat to Sidious he wouldn’t have admitted that he lost to Sidious and would’ve kept fighting to victory.
@@themightofgeburah5882 literally none of those writers ever stated that yoda "lost" the duel against palps.
Even you, in the comment I am responding to right now, implicitly are admitting that yoda won the lightsaber duel.
Yoda never admitted that he lost to palps. He admitted that the his version of the jedi lost to this version of the sith.
Did you even bother watching the video?
@@drakethesnek6429 Matt Martin blatantly said Yoda was overpowered by Sidious and he left because of it…
“Yoda won the lightsaber duel” against someone who doesn’t particularly care about it, he only does lightsaber battles to insult and spite Jedi, his REAL strength comes from his Force Wielding level power in The Force.
The Visual Dictionary even said Yoda was no match for Sidious.
Wow! Okay genius, why would Yoda allow Sidious to turn the Democracy he and “his version of the Jedi” were desperately protecting for years into an Empire? Why would he stay his Fraudulent @$$ on Dagobah while the Galaxy is ruled by his worst enemy DESPITE making an extreme attempt with extreme effort to try to take him down beforehand as we both clearly saw?
Did you bother doing the actual research, watch and read the vast material available? Yoda is inferior to Sidious, end of story.
The only reason why Yoda didn't win, is because the writers were decent, and made the plot fit the overarching series plot. If Disney got a hold of it then, Yoda would have bowed out for Yaddle. And Yaddle would have installed all of Star Wars with overweight, dyed haired, man-hating she harpies who would all be "girl power" types that date each other. And kill off the males of all species. And we would have had endless assaults on our ears for how horrible we men are for not enjoying the expensive lecture. For at least 10 years more than we've already had.
Over exaggerated much? Grow up
@@richkenyon548 Not remotely. In fact, if the C-Suite at Disney had its way in furthering bankrupting the house of Walt. It probably is not as far as they would like.
I'd tell you to open your eyes. But you've clearly never used them. They're still stuck where the sun doesn't shine. Like it doesn't shine at Disney.
It’s obvious that the dark side is stronger.
im sorry but how badass aint yoda thow !!!!
