      It's simple, IMO. Unlike the rest of the broadcast, where cameras appropriate focus on what's happening on-stage, In Memoriam should have no one at all on-stage, including no musicians, no dancers, no presenters. Feature each memorialized person's image as long as possible while keeping each moment relatively brief so as to fit in more people. It's about the dead and about the TV viewer, neither of which was served last night. Just atrocious.

      The last several years they emphasized the singer and this year dancers more than the memory that the segment is dedicated. They are failing in the purpose of the feature. I’m glad that I am not the only one who has noticed this trend and feels this way.

    Years ago CBS' Sunday Morning devoted almost 15 minutes for an "In Memoriam" segment and they included anyone and everyone who should been remembered. The Oscars broadcast should have something like this after the end of the program or aired as a separate program. Yes the dancers and singers are distracting. The real reason this always sucks is the Academy decision to include an ever increasing list of people not even involved in film production. It's only most appropriate and fitting tribute to mainly and largely focus on the names and faces of those being remembered in the 'In Memoriam', sans the singing and dancing. There's a lot of musical accompaniment possibilities---orchestral, symphonic, or just simple string, piano, harp violin or flute, that fittingly matches the solemnity and sacredness of this small but very significant segment. To commit the same mistakes of omission over the decades is unforgivable.

  • @cwbybri
    @cwbybri 7 місяців тому +1

    I echo many of the comments already posted. I was especially angry this year. The tributes are not about the performers, it’s about the people that were lost. The dancers really took away from where the focus should have been. Some of the names were hard to read. The dancers’ arms sometimes blocked the name. They had about 50 names at the end that were hard to read. They had gaps where they were not showing anybody at all. So potential snubs, there was time to include some of them. They need to take focus away from the musicians or singers. Maybe not even have a live performance, but recorded music.

    Every year I'd watch this segment and have a moment to some amazing people. I may not have known everyone, but I felt their importance. All you need is one screen, some clips, pictures and tasteful music playing. You do NOT need live performances, multiple screens, dancers, or anything else. It's a SOMBER moment and should have been treated as such. On a side not, who made it into the main part of the memoriam was so political it hurt. A sales agent, listed by a Director. Why would one sales agent have been so influential to cinema? Why do some managers get their name and face up on the screen? Politics. It's disgusting. Have a criteria, let it be known to the people, then hold yourself to your own criteria Oscars. The list of names at the end was like leaving two pennies as a tip. It's an insult that actors and other influential people like Ray Stevens or Sinead O'Connor were buried in a text block.

    Oscars are meant for people in the creative process of motion pictures intended for exhibition in movie theaters. If an artist has had important presence in both, TV and movies then should be included in the Oscars In Memoriam section. TV stars who rarely appear in movies (example: Suzanne Sommers, whose only shinning movie moment was as a blonde with no name in American Graffiti) shouldn't. As simple as that. Those will have their moment during the Emmys.

    I couldn’t see the honorees because they occupied only a small screen on my tv set. The rest were the dancers etc. Plus the honorees were grouped together instead of going one by one as in years past. I can understand that not everyone will be featured but adding in the dancing etc did not help.

    They have been “accidentally botching “ the Memormiam For a few years now and I personally thinks it’s because they want the focus to be on those present, instead of having the viewers think of those actors gone and maybe compare talent and realize so many today are mediocre and win for an agenda not for talent

    Every year they manage to make this segment worse than the previous year's, this year must be a new record low, it's as if they do this on purpose and flatout refuse to listen to criticism. We don't want friggin' singers or dancers on stage for this one, play instrumental music for four minutes is that too much to ask for instead of this disrepectful behavior with in and out zooms. Are total morons in charge of this show, apparently. The departed artists are the important ones for this segment, nothing else. Perry and Turner's inclusion is a bit odd, TV actors usually aren't included and a singer, so many other famous actors ignored. And that tiny text of names at the end is the final insult.

    The dancers were a distraction
    It was to much noise going on
    too much going on.
    The people in memorial talking. Andre and his son singing and the orchestra
    They could have made time if they wanted to.
    The time they wasted doing those lame jokes and having John Cena on stage wearing nothing they could have shown everyone like Lance, Susan, Tony Bennett, Bob Barker and etc.
    Andre Bauer did plenty of movies like Glory with Denzel and Morgan Freeman.

    Instead of wasting time with deaths of technical staff people, they should use the little time they already had with people THE WORLD ACTUALLY care about, ACTORS, DIRECTORS...! Including beloved actors in a microscopic list AND NOT AT ALL, is OFFENSIVE to their memory! Instead of spending 10 minutes in lame jokes, use those 10 minutes to PROPERLY honor the dead, the unequivocal talent that has been lost!!

      @@deborahgallegos5334 Yeah, I did not mean to sound like that... The list at the end should acknowledge those people, I did not mean to imply that their lives are worth less, because they sure are worthy to the movie industry as a whole! What I meant was that they could have acknowledge everyone had they given themselves enough time to do that! Without those people, movies aren't made for sure! I just wanted to get the point across that when you impose to yourself such small time to acknowledge the sadly departed, you need to focus on the most VISIBLE part of the industry, the actors and directors! My opinion is that this segment is done for the Academy itself, for the actors, producers, screenwriters who have known those people while filming motion pictures! We, the audience, don't know them, so all those faces and names do not ring any bells, but to the people in the audience and in the Academy who knew these people, yes, it makes perfect sense to include them! This is just another example of the disconnection between the Academy and the audiences!
