He was already a pretty good actor and he was excellent in chaplin which he also got nominated for. Marvel casts good actors to play these larger than life roles.
@ Chaplin” was over 30 years ago, his career took a nose dive due to personal issues with drug abuse, Marvel gave him his resurgence. Marvel most certainly does not make good actors (Ask Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth) they shell out huge paychecks to good actors to temporarily embarrass themselves in roles (every actual award winning veteran actor has admitted this). In the case of Robert Downey Jr. he made a lotta money, but ended up in a lot of bad movies because he was known as a marvel actor incapable of turning in a solid performance or being taken seriously in a good movie

I've been sharing the same observations. He and his ex and son were clients at a chiro practice I managed, and he was a very kind, warm person to everyone.
I don't appreciate the way he completely ignores Ke Huy Quan. He was so happy for Robert Downey Jr., and yet Robert doesn't even bother to give him an eye contact as he takes the trophy. It kinda shows how he treats certain people.
Yeah… I agree. Was a little bummed out by that
I’m hoping it was just nerves and how huge the moment was.
I thought I was the only one who caught that...but I also try to give grace and understand that this moment (esp if its your first time winning) is probably a super rush of overwhelming emotion & you also know everything is timed so you're just kind of in the fuzz of the moment. So I can definitely see it being an "in the moment thing" but also am cognizant to know actors can be both steller people behind closed doors or assholes and I don't put it past anyone regardless of talent or if I'm a fan or not. But hoping it was the latter!
Reminds me of the cluelessness of Taylor Swift at the Grammys.
Starting to believe what Terrence Howard has been saying about RDJ.
Fun fact: This is the 3rd time in every 10 years a movie wins both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. The previous 2 times were Sean Penn and Tim Robbins for Mystic River in 2003 and Matthew McCounaghey and Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club in 2013
One of the most deserved Oscars in history.
The journey RDJ has been on is one for the history books. From being a childhood icon of mine with Iron Man to today with his win for Strauss, RDJ is clearly an actor/human being EVERYONE can look up to.
Not only that he went through drug addiction and went to jail...his career was basically over and had to start over and made to the top which is unheard of in Hollywood.
LMAO! Robert’s BEEN an actor of talent way before Iron Man. He received 2 oscar nominations before.

This is one of these years where I would have been totally on board with all five winners. That was such a strong category! 👏🏽 I am very much on board with RDJ, just saying every single one of these performances were actually deserving of an Oscar.
Just listened to
a great interview with RDJ, on Rick Rubin's Tetragamadon podcast. He was so incredibly humble and interesting, I'll have to watch Chaplin and Oppenheimer. A big congratulations on this amazing award, and I'm thrilled you've been leading a happy, healthy and sober life, alongside your lovely wife, Susan...that's the greatest reward of all. God bless, RDJ
5:26 , 5:30 It's not fair how RDJ doesn't shake Ke Huy Quan's hands. he litreally ignores him like he doesn't worth a thing.
with all due respect to Robert, that's not how treat like a man, especially to a man who gives you the award.
Ke has come a long way to reach this point in his life, won an oscar and now has the chance to give the award to Robert. He's a good soul and needs recognition and respect.
compare Robert getting the award to Cilian Murphy's. not only Cillian's award was more valuable, but also he's younger than Robert.
We can make the world a better place
They took pictures backstage.
Well, sorry to see you leave Earth but only if you’re certain that it’ll be better with your absence.
Go Robert, I'm so happy for you. What a road you have traveled.
I knew that our man RDJ was going to win. he is one hell of an actor and one hell of a dude. He incredibly deserve it. And he will always be our Iron Man. ❤
Robert Downey Jr. will be remembered as one of the finest on-screen performers. Dude has rough terrain, and now living is best life possible. Happy for him 😍❤️.
Robert Downey Jr.'s performance in Oppenheimer reminded everyone of his versatility, as he plays a role totally unlike Tony Stark and makes the revelation that Lewis Strauss was working against Julius Robert Oppenheimer and secretly despises him genuinely surprising.
