I'm 70 and have been driving with indicators for over 50 years. It took me all of 60seconds to get used to the buttons. Love the Highland. No other similarly priced EV can compete with the technology and the range. No annual service costs, great charging network. Love it.
Pleased that you got used to the indicators. My father (a car mechanic) is in his 70s, and when he was sat in the vehicle (not driving) he said he found that to be a silly change too. Everyone is different!
Good review. On the Test Drive I found the Turn signal buttons on the wheel were no issue, even in Round-Abouts! I also test drove a Model S which is the same. I notice you are placing your hands on the top and bottom of steering wheel. Placing your hands above the centre (where the bumps on the wheel are) would leave your thumbs close to the turn signal buttons on the wheel, IMO.
It's now four Teslas I've driven with the lack of indicator stalks and honestly it really is distracting. To me, as per the review, it's a safety hazard. I'm taking my eyes off the road to indicate, which is silly!
The issue is not so much for big roundabouts where you dont need to turn the steering wheel as much, but I live in an area with a lot of smaller + mini roundabouts where the steering wheel is virtually upside down on exit. Definitely a safety issue, i'd say.
Have now had my M3 rwd for a month. Circa 1,000miles. Very happy, love forward vision, peaceful cabin ( double glazed not mentioned) and quality ride characteristics. Would prefer indicator stalks but getting used. Sensors on rear would also be a plus. Very happy with TESLA NETWORK, again not mentioned.
I drove the previous model 3 for 5 months as an inbetween (poolcar) to make up my mind on my next Car. My previous drives were A5, E-class SQ5, Q7, BMW 3 series,Evoque, but decided my next would be an EV (My home has a zillion solar panels) I checked, the BMW i4, Mercedes EQE, ID7 and everytime I stepped back in the old model 3 I found the interior relaxiing, the other cars had so many buttons, displays, handles etc. and I realy got used to the real one-pedal drive, only downside was the bumpy ride. So to just to check the box I drove the new model 3, and was impressed. To make a long story short (not ;-)) I drive now a new model 3 RWD and enjoy it very much. Indicators is just a metter of getting used to, the same with using the screen to reverse or go forward.
@@TotallyEV Didn't know that you couldn't choose, but sounds reasonable as for reviews, the company wants to give you probably the best looking car, and the 19 inch wheels look much better in my opinion. But would choose 18 inch wheels for sure if i would buy the car.
It’s really good though. I have the RWD and as long as you don’t need an insane amount of bass it’s still very good. My next car will be the Long Range (next year probably). But when I test drove it I actually felt like I has to use the Equalizer to turn DOWN the bass 😂
I have a Highland, and model Y and I have to say the new Model 3 is impressive.... While your chart shows the RWD Highland lower, it does not show the significant extra capacity the rest have, some BMW's are 80+ KWh batteries vs 60...
Sure, efficiency is good to know, but as mentioned in the video, the extra capacity is what makes the others have better range. I truly don't care how big or small the capacity is, rather, how much range I'll be able to get
I have had a test drive in the Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland and loved it. Indicators on buttons were simple and I found many times that I could turn the wheel and maintain contact with the buttons. It also did not suffer the problem of indicators staying on and then cancelling it turns on the opposite one, that I found was a problem on the Model Y.
10:04 I would still much rather replace a single button as opposed to a complete stalk (as I had this exact problem with my Rover where the stalk had a malfunction).
@@TotallyEV The capacitance sensor board is "the button" in question that has to be replaced. The sensor is on this little board together with the CDC. It sits in a mounting cavity probably containing an alignment notch that I personally would be afraid of braking if there was too much glue used by the manufacturer (or if any).
@@TotallyEV sure, you might even have to brake an egg! 🤣 but no. Seriously, I recon Tesla in general makes easier to service cars (in particular Model 3, 2024) compared to my old Rover. In other words: if they asked me what will I choose, I'd go with the easier, cheaper part (or no part) instead of the "good old" complicated and more expensive one.
Surprisingly it's not bad over Bluetooth, but would have been far superior if there was a wired or at the very least a wireless connection to AA systems. At the very least, it would have been nice to see the LDAC or even AAC Bluetooth codecs!
I have a question if I may: If you leave the car and take all the keys with you, and there's somebody left in the car (like a child / wife / husband / partner) will the systems remain active whilst they stay in the car, or will the car completely lock and turn the alarms on after while? If so, then I assume you just have leave one of the keys in the car.
Good question! Honestly not quite sure what would happen after a prolonged amount of time but as long as someone is inside, it should remain unlocked (of course, unless they choose to lock from inside).
@@TotallyEV hope so ... I ask because my current car locks itself when the Smart Key taken out of the car after 2 mins, regardless of whether someone is still in the car or not. So you have no choice but to leave the key in the car with said passenger. Retarded 😁
I got the old Model 3 2019 and in my experience the car locks like noone is in the car. One time it even triggered the alarm while I was in the shop and my wife was waiting inside the car. My solution for now is leaving my cellphone with my wife or putting the car in Dog Mode. The last one isn't much appreciated by the missus. 😅
@@Mike23k438thanks! I've go the car now but not really had the opportunity to test it myself. But another simple way to stop the car locking is to turn off Bluetooth on your phone temporarily. Excellent overview/review. Very comprehensive. Elon can be rather stubborn. Still a massive shame no HUD. No re-gen paddles, no V2L, No puddle lights on the handles, the stupid rear infotainment screen (why not an option?) and now the lack of stalks for indicators. Yes they are ok to get used to but in several situations as they have moved , you can get in to trouble. And Tesla Vision which is answering a question nobody asked. But the efficiency of this model is simply next generation. No other car company can compete. 58kWh means cheap running costs.
I would get the Tesla because of its class leading efficiency, charger network and superior SW experience. If it was a hatchback or station wagon it would be almost perfect.

Hi Chris, once again great review. Here in Malaysia the byd seal (rwd) are sold for 10k lesa than the tesla (rwd). Based on your opinion which one is the better option? For context, the tesla supercharger are still growing here and most of the dc chargers are 3rd parties. So u dont miss out a lot on it.
I have been waiting over 3 months for delivery of my 2024 Model 3 Long Range and nobody knows anything-my car is way past original delivery date? Now every day, delivery date is extended, with no end in sight. Most other car manufactures can tell you where your car is every step of the production and delivery process, but not Tesla. Their customer service is non-existent after you order. Wish I had bought a Lucid instead.
Just go mine and live in Europe as well. Just completely ignored the turning indicators, only use them if changing lanes, with the amount of roundabouts I honestly CBA to be faffing with the buttons, especially because I usually drive with only one hand.
I own a Model Y and I think elimination of the stalks in the new Model 3 is ridiculous. Stalks are intuitive and practical, and whose elimination has few offsetting benefits. Tesla… go back to stalks!!
Just watched "Ryans Model Y" channel where he did an "effortless" 7 point U turn using the screen Drive/Reverse command. 7 times his concentration went from outside the car to the screen and back. I do the same in my "stalked" Model Y and not once does my concentration leave looking at the surroundings. No amount of practice will get you used to changing directions via the screen without losing concentration outside. Another safety feature "upgrade" from Tesla??
Well when you're in Park or switching, you're at a standstill, so you can (and should) check your surroundings. So, I don't have any complaints about the drive mode selector moving, but the indicators are done almost always on the move, and that's where I have an issue.
1. I just watched a BYD comparison with the Model 3 and several other EVs and it was pitiful. Not sure where you are getting your numbers. BYD was far less efficient and did not ravel as far. The review test drove all of the cars to 0%. BYD got 3.8 miles per KW and the Model 3 LR got 4.7 miles per KW. That's a devasting difference. 2. Tesla's GPS IS Google Maps, you know, the same Google Maps used in Android Auto. Apple's Car Play is a joke, I won't even waste time with it. Tesla's GPS is BETTER than Android Auto's version. 3. The phone and text functions on the Model 3 are second to none and I am fairly sure they are using Google Assistant for these functions. It's not true Google Assistant, but it functions nearly the same for auto-related tasks. 4. A heads-up display would be nice but it's not something that is needed to make the car function well. I agree that Tesla should offer it at least as an option. 5. The software UI for Teslas is class-leading by a huge margin. Other EV UIs are clumsy, bug-ridden and require usb wire connections to your phone. The Tesla UI is simply head and shoulders above any other car maker's UI. 6. The security system on Teslas is class-leading. Nothing else is even close. 7. The driver assist functions are also class-leading. 8. The RWD version has LFP batteries, which are the best, longest-lasting, and most durable on the market right now. That will change in 2025, when solid-state batteries start coming out.
