Don't be concerned about the boat check with the skipper. He knows his boat and the waters. Though the seventeen has an adequate run that it is unlikely for a wave to develop under the boat,

That first Boston Whaler...that's who Broncos Guru calls "black top" and he was in control...as always! He's a beast! Looks like the passenger was hanging onto a bar for the bimini top..which likely brought it down. And which is likely why he wasn't in the boat at round two. Captain gave him the boot! Walk the plank kid! That Grady White boat...it's amazing how the camera flattens out those waves. Drone footage helps show just how crazy it is in that little channel.
We used to go wave jumping in white caps like that in a 13' Whaler when I was a kid. We'd catch air, get banged around, laughing our heads off. Those are such good times because I was with guys that knew what they were doing so I could just have fun and not worry. Boy, did we beat our bodies up. Good times. 😊😊

Me & dog fished a 16 Montauk for years in the Gulf off Clearwater Beach, several times in rough seas dog could swim inside the boat but we always returned usually with limit of gags or spanish macks or kingfish. Both Me & Dog always had our pfd's on just in case.
That had barely anything to do with the boat and everything to do with the captain. Sure there are better riding boats than others but at the end of the day there is a lot more to do with the captain than the hull shape
ofc it did, the captain on the grady didn’t know what the hell he was doing, he sat at idle speed pretty much the whole time. now put those kids on the grady and you have a completely different story. grady whites and boston whalers are the best riding boats out there for the size, no questions asked. they weigh a ton and have a extremely deep V.

Thank God I bought a Boston Whaler Newtauk and after watching that video, I feel a little better about my purchase. I fished the other day off of La Jolla Cove in the windiest conditions (we were the only boat out there by 2pm) and it handled it well.

I had the same boat but they were obviously in it for the challenge. But if I were young I would have done the same. Montauk is extremely stable laterally and hard to flip unless you peak forward into a vertical caving wave. Those boats are awesome.

@@craigerking9790 It does help though that the void spaces in the Whaler hull are filled with high buoyancy foam.... I know a lot of companies do that these days, but Boston Whaler was the first company to show one of their boats still floating after sawing it in half.
@@blackhawks81H flotation foam has nothing to do with what I'm talking about and it actually makes the ride a little worse in this case since the boat will sit higher in the water and also have more of a tendency to blow the bow up if it gets air compared to a boat without floatation foam. The difference is very minimal but there is a difference. Also like you said everyone uses floatation now and plenty of companies were in the process of it while Boston whaler reveled it. They were just the first to revel it, they didn't find some new crazy thing no one knew about. Maybe they should focus more on hull design so their boats don't smack and focus less on cutting boats in half

Whaler’s performance capability and quality have on occasion enticed me to erroneously believe that I’m as capable as my 170 Montauk .The Unsinkable Legend though is bulletproof and floats when cut in half, proof a BW is both tougher and safer than its operator.
A good captain can zip zap a little boat like that whaler through just about anything.. haulover is an extremely rough inlet but some of these captains in huge ship have no idea what to do. The main thing is to try keeping on the plane with a bit of trim & throttle the next thing is timing & knowing where the smoothest part of the inlet. Also sometimes punching on & off the throttle & zip zap through. You need to be very aware of what the water is doing
That 17ft Montauk hull from 86 on through the 90's I think is still the best Whaler they have made. Responsive fast handles great in any type of sea great boat.
Two things: 1 Why aren't these people wearing at least inflatable PFDs? (too tough / cool to drown?) 2 Your VHF antenna may look cool swept back, but are near useless if you need it Looks like a lot of fun in a boat like that whaler

I have a 16 ft 1965 Boston whaler Nauset. That thing is a beast in rough water. I love that boat.
