We are an elderly couple nearing 70 and are and were so much like your wife and you it is amazing. We have a Montauk 170 nearly identical to yours but live in Washington State and have a weekend place on Puget Sound. We enjoy leaving our beach cabin and heading out from Filucy Bay about 16 miles to the Ram Restaurant in Ruston where they have great burgers and love dogs, especially ours. We have had four boats over our 44 year marriage and have loved every minute of our cruising as a couple; with our kids growing up and now with our grandkids. Keep up the videos because we absolutely love watching your trips. It reminds us so much of our younger days and why we think out boat has been such an important bond to us in our life together. Both of us simply love being on the water. I wish I would have bought a Boston Whaler many years sooner. It is the best boat made!
I have a 1989-90 center console Montauk. Those new Montauks with the deeper V's ride way better than mine. Plus, I have a max of 90hp rated hull. Just repowered mine with a 90hp Suzuki. The 17 Montauk is such an awesome boat. Like you said garage storage, trailer-ability, and shallow water. Mileage is awesome
Awesome! According to BW this 2023 Montauk 17 with 115hp at 30-32mph should be able to get 115-130NM. I usually run her at 4000rpm so close to 27-28mph range. Plenty of range to have a great time on the water!
Dude, you should get close to double that if you repower. I've never clocked it, but our Suzuki 90hp is about 9 mpg at 3000 to 3500 rpm, approx 20 to25mph according to Suzuki's performance chart. We have twin 12 gallon tanks under the seat. 89/90 Montauk center console. The other nice thing is, we don't have to shout to talk anymore!!
I might have gone with the edge water but I ended up with the BW because it was a better fit in the garage. I think I had height issues with the EW. The 170 barely fits. 2 inches maybe max of wiggle room at the garage opening height. I don’t regret my choice at all! 🤙
Wanted the biggest possible montauk that would fit in my two car garage. The 170 seems to have been the right choice. I might be able to squeeze in the 190 but it won’t clear the top of the garage. 170 has about 2” of clearance before hitting the top and the 190 sits taller on the trailer.
from experience the front cushion is a big pain and always just gets in the way - not solid enough to stand on and a real pain to clean after fishing - after 30 yours mine still looked like new and just kept falling on me in the garage where it was always stored - you do not want people riding in the front of the boat when moving, it is not safe and they just block your view - I am talking about open water or at speed -
Thanks , I just bought one (pick it up in two weeks)it came without the front cushion. I talked with the Boston whaler dealer and he said they are $2,200 plus tax
Congrats on the new boat!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Btw, did you get the audio package? I felt like 2 JL 4" speakers and a head unit weren't going to be enough but I curious to know if I was wrong. Looking at installing a audio system soon.@@tobagotom
Just got the boat two days ago, and it came with the fusion stereo unit with two speakers. I tried it out in the garage (where the boat will live) and it was very loud. Fortunately it came with Bluetooth too .But I don’t know what you need , good luck with the audio system
I could not see in this vid if you started using the engine cutoff lanyard yet - this is mandatory in that boat - I had a 1988 copy of the Whaler built in England by an ex Whaler designer when they refused to give him the rights to build the Whaler itself - it was called a Del Quay - Aquasport was setting up to build them here in Hialeah before the owner disappeared - I had the only 17ft side console with the last year of the Merc/Mariner 6 cyl 115 on it - Aquasport borrowed it before I was able to pick it up to make commercials for it - they stated the fastest speed was 52 MPH and it was faster on every run since the motor was not broken in yet - that is the only boat I ever owned that I did not burry the bow going through Haulover inlet (including a 22 with twins and a 27 pontoon boat) - trim the bow as high as you can and pull the power back and stay between the waves - I know I had it out in over 5-10 ft waves at times and never had an issue - I had water get between the hull during Andrew but still ran it till about 4/5 years ago when I was told I had to move it out of the drive for a new roof install on the house - I was over 70 and got pissed and gave it away because I had not finished making it a center console yet - I have regretted it ever since and keep looking for it in the different boat sales on line - I did try to buy a 15 ft Whaler at Marine Max when I still had the 17 but I was refused the loan due to my age -

We have a 170 2023, living in hawaii 96825 could not be happier. It is like my skateboard I’m 74
Thank you for your content Aloha
Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these next year. I appreciate these videos. Good glimpses into what to expect. Thank you.
You’re welcome! Hoping to make more videos soon! I think it’s a great 17 footer! Good luck!
We have a 150 Montauk on order for inland lakes in Ohio. Moving up from 130 SS. Thanks for sharing your videos. Makes the winter wait tolerable.
Congrats! And thank you for watching! I’ll be making more soon. 😎
1977 Montauk still doing great, yet wish we could dock and eat like that. Great video !
Thank you!! I plan on keeping this boat for a VERY LONG time :) Glad you are still enjoying your Montauk!!
There is no boat more beloved in the US than the BW Montauk 17!

Looks like that little whaler handled the wakes from the passing boats extremely well!!
It sure did!! Thanks!
Makes me want to get a 4-stroke. I have a 17 montauk and 90hp merc saltwater 2-stroke. Installed a 24-gal tank, can easily get 80NM doing 30mph.

Like u, I’m between the montauk n the edgewater
Why u decided for BW over EW?

YUMMY! Peanut Butter and Jellyfish Sandwiches!
Great video, just curious why you chose the 170 over the 150 or 190 Montauk’s? Keep the Whaler videos coming!

@@BikingWithTheBoys ah ok
How tall is your garage opening when you say the montauk 170 fits by 2 inches?
7ft .. wish it was taller 😑
have you gone to bahamas with that yet?
Negative. Im not sure I would on this small boat. As capable as it is, It would have to be a perfect sea day for me to attempt it.
So how many miles on how many gallons some how I missed that bit
12 gallons for about 60-70nm. 🤙
I noticed that you have the snaps for a front cushion, but you don’t use it. Would you get it if you were to buy it again?
Honestly, I think I wouldn’t. I haven’t used them. The rear seats, yes. I don’t like that I have to unclip them every time to open the hatch.
