471/511s are some of the nicest wheels to build, especially with the Squrox Prolock nipples that have been included when I've ordered. I've not had any loosening issues after I do my final tension with a tyre fitted, they do get looser once a tyre is on. I haven't found them that durable for the high price, one 471 died with a dent that cracked a spoke hole. Had a 30psi DH tyre with Huck Norris at Willunga, tyre was still at pressure after ding. Put a small dent in my 511 on Belair loop, 30psi single ply tyre. I didn't notice hitting anything, tyre stayed up, and it's a tame trail
Had a huge hit on the side of my Flow mk3 rear at top of horsies on the weekend. Completely out of true at the bottom with a heap of spokes to the point they were almost completely unscrewed. Again, know it was a quality build, but just in the wrong spot i guess. A small dent on the rim and retensioned myself at this point. I will take it for a gentle ride soon and if it feels odd i will head straight back to Chris. Pretty surprised it wasn't worse rim damage considering the spokes. Glad I made the call to run stans over dt now. Lets hope yours holds up!
You ride quite aggressive and fast. My riding style is similar to you and I have the EX511 in the front and rear. 30 psi in the rear and 25 psi in the front. I have enough traction and I don't need to be worried when I charge rock gardens hard
I'm loving my Stan's flow rims that came on my Patrol. Just threw in Cushcore front and rear, went down to 17 front, 19 rear PSI and it just grabs the trail like a claw. Set a PR on my favorite segment first lap! (Second lap it got dark and I tried to get fancy with a new line a slipped and fell though) I must ride softer than you and a lot of folks cause all I ride is rock gardens and I seem to not have too much trouble with wheels.
Hey! the content of your channel is gold, if you improve the quality of your videos and editing I'm pretty sure your channel is going to grow massively. Good Luck
Have you tried any carbon rims? thoughts? i have really liked my bontrager ones with cushcore, the traction is very linear when leaning over the bike on the limit, it is also very easy to regain traction in a slide compared to alloy
Brian Richards i rode some carbon rims on the Banshee Rune I demo’d. They felt good but there was no stand out performance from memory. I’d like to try some high end carbon wheels to see what the fuss is about, I wouldn’t personally buy carbon wheels because I’ve seen too many get destroyed on the rear
Matteo Masini I’d say so, if anything I’d say the 471 may be stronger, purely because its been proven to be ultra strong by Aaron Gwins flat tyre/no tyre run at Leogang on the rim
Biking With Garrett its had a hell of a beating since then and shes holding up very well. I’m pretty impressed with the rim. How would you build it for more strength? I got it built by my local wheel builder
MTB Telly the way it’s laced has a lot to do with stiffness and strength and it will hold true better. Having the cross spiked cross three instead of two makes it much stronger👍🏼
@@mtbtelly5522 FWIW I built my EX-471 up myself, three cross. I crush this wheel constantly and haven't touched it.. I live in the Pacific Northwest in Canada. Our trails can get rowdy. Thinking of going to 511, to try wider tires.

SixFootSix MTB nasty! I’m hoping it holds up from here on in, but I’m not super confident for now

MTB_SF sounds like you got your setup sussed. Those flow rims that transition spec it with are super reliable

Felipe Farias thanks man ✌🏼

Like these reviews, spewing about new rims. Wondering Where do you recommend to have your wheels built up in Adelaide ? Keep it up!
Justin L any wheel builds road or mtb I use Chris at Whippets Workshop in Stepney. His wheel builds have served me very well over the years
how much pressure were you running? Spank Spike 350's are worth checking out
H_CARNAGE 27psi,
@@mtbtelly5522 How the hell did you ding that at 27PSI, cushcore AND doubledown!?
H_CARNAGE I’m as surprised as you are. We’ll see how it holds up from here on.
Are you running 28 or 32 spoke. If you are running 28 you may want to consider 32
pvillaluna1 nah its a 32 hole. The one I had on my Remedy was 28h, it was quite good for the time that I had it.
What nipples did you use? The wheel comes with the recommended nipples and washers.
Would these be best for a heavier rider ?
Sham Rock best for anyone who wants a strong reliable rear wheel
How will you compare them to the ex471?
roi k. I’ve never had a 471 so cant compare it. But the 471 is a proven tough rim (Aaron Gwin no tyre run). I thought this would be on par with that
go 471 or 511 ? trying to decide
Matteo Masini depends if you want a 26mm internal or a 30mm internal. Both equally strong and reliable
Matteo Masini if you run fatter tyres go the 511, if you prefer a narrower tyre like a 2.3 maxxis, go the 471
MTB Telly are they equally strong in terms of durabliity. ? I just want something strong to be honest

It’s probably not that strong because you built it up 2 cross

Biking With Garrett yeah nice, I’ll get him to build it 3 cross on the next one

It's actually built 3 cross. Have a look in the beginning and you'll see. Definitely 3 cross.
