Strava says 18.12km and 960 metres of elevation gain. That hill is a hardcore pinch near the top. It blows my calves up too much on a normal bike so I ride the long way round or walk that bit usually. This bike flew up the hill with a little effort at around 200 metres per climb. Falling short of 5 full laps by 40 vertical metres. Weighing 20.7kg with exo plus maxx grip dhf front and exo dissec...

Currently using WTB SX17 26er & 32 hole rim paired with novatech hub for 10 speed shimano. Now want to switch DT Swiss pair of rim for the same. Please comment for incremental benefit from it. PLEASE
Great straight forward review. A lot of reviewers are too soft I guess I could say
Beer bike 🍻
Gday telly , just a quick question , im thinkin of buying a current reign in medium , i wanna mullet it , never really got along with 29 rear , i wanna change cranks out to 160mm , did you run standard 170mm cranks in this video ? Im not a fan of super low bb , pedal clearance for climbing is more important than railing berms , would like to hear you opinion .. Cheers mate , keep up the great work ...yeeeew
am looking into the 2022 reign 29 SX or 2024 reign SX the 2025 SX is also nice but has rockshock boxer instead of FOX 40 like the 2024 version.
Great riding review!
Awesome so glad to learn this. God bless you
Did you ever get it sorted? Ive got a rune, and do not get on with it at all. To get a decent ride height, i end up sacrificing sag and bottom out all the time.
@@FergTheSperg yeah I found close to 40% sag was the height, and would be best with a light compression tune on an air spring for best spring curve and performance, or a progressive coil spring
Trailcross gtx gore tex version aren't comfortable you couldn't run in them the waterproof version of these!
Ride concepts new waterproof mid tallec for 2025 are my next pair their just coming out now! Look incredible and have ankle n toe protection plus waterproof one of a kind! Definitely check them out mate!
@@Emtbtoday hopefully they improve their prices!
Doesn't matter what pair adidas anything their signature trademarks still the banana sole curl! Anything over size 9 there's not rubber memory left its streched out to far giving the clown shoe! Mine actually came right off the Stealth just with 30c wash! Fabric shrunk n ripped itself off the sole! Never buy 5.10s again
Hi have you noticed any creaking or sound at all from the pressfit bottom bracket?
@@wslee2482 not yet, but that isn’t uncommon with a pressfit bb. Could be a number of different thing causing the creak
Hello Mr. Telly! Will this solve the Slash suspension problem? If you modify air shock to 227.5×60. You cut damper body by 2.5mm to reduce eye to eye length.Than add the 2.5mm shim on shaft to reduce stroke length. Remove 1 token. Now you can run Slash by 4% less sag with the same bb height like before. Which means more pressure and more linear shock. But you only have 155mm of rear travel. This is a cheap modification. What do you think?

Mate this is all good but you need to close the lid of the dot fluid right after you suck it into the syringe to prevent it from absorbing more air
Are they with Sram system compatible, or better Sram CLX or CLX -R buy?
Finally ordered one. 30 bucks for a steel one. Replacing my titanium syncros seat on my Scott Genius, don't care about the weight just want more comfort, definitely didn't want to pay the titanium volt price at the moment
Does the Fox float x2 rub the frame at all?
All of the Maxxis tyres I've bought in the past 12 months have had terrible wobbles. Much worse than this. I'm done with Maxxis.
I Have 13 days this Summer at Whistler With My CF Demo8 450TI Spring Worked Perfect No Issues did 110 cycles next season im going to a 475 Spring 😎
Shimano all the way. Their stuff not only looks better, the ergonomics of their shifters (thumb/index vs. Sram's thumb/thumb) is superior. BTW: No need to say "shram" as there is no "H" in Sram!
In disbelief, i did two things. First I checked notable websites for SRAM brakes and DOT5.1 fluid. And yes they state the same thing as this video. Second, I tried it today with new DOT5.1 fluid and in amazement, it is true. I have 2 high end glass syringes and watched how the bubbles appeared. They are not creeping past the rubber gasket on the plunger! They are appearing right in the fluid in all areas. I did this three times and was amazed at how much air came out. Confirms what other notable sites are telling bike techs.
I just pricked up a Phantom V3.2 frame to build up so I came across your videos and been watching them. You’ve mentioned fork offset a few times, hoping it’s really not a big deal, other people say it’s not noticeable. I’m getting a Manitou Mattoc Pro and it only comes in 44. How tall are you and what stem length do you run on these 470mm reach bikes?
@@kevinclark9176 40mm stem pretty much always, and the 44 offset will be good.
Do you sell this helmet?
Will a 750 ml bottle fit? Does it hit the frame?
Have you ever run a Fox X2? If so how does it compare? I just brought an Ibis Ripmo V2s size L frame here in NZ and it came stock with an X2 which was defective straight away and in getting fixed atm.
@@JJaguar333 yeah the X2 is killer. But its reliability was terrible for a good couple of years there. The new 2024 has addressed the issues and seems to be good. They should upgrade your shock to the 2024 gear, thats what fox has been offering to everyone with the dud models. But yeah its a killer shock performance wise. Perfect air spring
@@mtbtelly5522 yes a friend said that. He’s run both the X2 and the super deluxe ultimate. I’ve come of a DVO Jade X on my 2017 trek Slash 9.8 frame.
I got a Lyrik Ultimate 21’ second hand from a guy. The fork feels real harsh and I got a suspension tech to have a look and he thinks it’s either the lowers have been damaged or the bushings are out. I look forward to running it with either better lowers.
@@JJaguar333 yeah nice, they’ll be killer with a freshen up
@@mtbtelly5522 yea was probably going to grab a Push HC97 dampner upgrade for the fork aswell which gives it a broader range of adjustment and also apparently improves a bunch of stuff. It screws onto top of existing 2.1 dampner.
Bum steer.
It didnt work for me also when i pump the pressure that was before after some bouncing pressure is smaler
After I ignorantly caused my rear shock to end up in the exact same state as you’ve created in this video, I probably watched 10-12 videos that provided a solution to the situation which you’ve made this video explaining how to solve. Don’t get me wrong, those well meaning videos I watched from beginning to end definitely provided me with some pretty useful information, but none of them outlined the situation which your video does, so no solution was offered to that problem either. Thank you for this valuable information, because I’m not sure I would have any chance in hell of understanding how to fix the problem I’ve created without it!
Any updates....still running cushcore?
Great info! Definitely helps me researching building a wheelset for the first time! I was looking at the XR 391 (the XC model rim), but i was wondering if i should go with a beefier EX 471 rim instead. Want to pair it with the OneUp hubs and some 2.0" tires. Seems like the XR 391 introduces some nonsense with the nipples to reduce weight, not sure it it would be problematic as I'm not knowledgeable enough to understand.
@@teecee4459 if you don’t mind the weight the 471 is excellent and very strong. If its gonna be overkill you could just run it on the rear and run the xr391 up front
@@mtbtelly5522 I have a hardtail, does that make a difference?
@@teecee4459 if you’re giving the descents a bit of a nudge I think you’ll be well suited with the stronger rear lighter front. Also partially depends on your weight
What happened to the previous video? I got about halfway through and it got deleted, bummer.
@@th_js sorry bro, i accidentally deleted it trying to update my apps. And I deleted the original vid from my roll after uploading
@@mtbtelly5522 Ah, that happens. Keep making great videos 👍🏻
I had the same problems with Rekon Race..After I had enough of theese “ugly” tyres (very dissapointing) I decided to go back to Schwalbe tyres and things are just perfect.I will never ever buy Maxxis again.I think Schwalbe is (probably) the best of all.
The most uncomfotable mtb riding position of any bike ive ridden.
does this helmet have mips?
@@sweetlocked no this is one of the older models
@mtbtelly5522 alright cheers
bro are you still riding this bike today?
@@cookiecanfly_ no I was only setting it up for a friend
@@mtbtelly5522 sorry man makes sense. I’m around 180cm and about 90kg I’m thinking a large. Do you still rate this bike they look great
@@cookiecanfly_ yeah its a good bike. Large is the go for sure at your height. XL is a long bike
@@mtbtelly5522 thanks mate, the 27.5 front and rear is the same as what I’m riding now. I have never ridden a 29 and 27.5rear and like the idea behind it but not sure how necessary that mullet set up is 👍
I love mine
What do you mean by cloggy when you talk about the Impact pros? Do you mean the foot is somehow a bit swimming in a big rigid upper? Also how is the pedal feel compared to the sam hill impacts? I ran the sam hill impacts with the pre-adidas rubber for 3 years now but they're about to die any minute.
@@nicolasdoebeli3355 like they feel like old german cligs (wooden shoes). They don’t feel at all flexible to me. Grip is similar to the sam Hill but with a different pattern. The sole is a touch thinner as well but only just
@@nicolasdoebeli3355 I prefer the sole thickness of the impact pro, but the feel of the Impact on the pedals is better for me purely due to the flexibility
I got a pair of the RC Hellion's 1/2 size bigger than normal. Excellent fit! I got mine from MTB Direct or Pushys website, I can't remember, but they where a very good price.
Telly, on the subject of grip, what pedals do you run?
@@dc2rb18cr I’m running the Cleanskin composite pedal at the moment at 45 bucks a pair. And they’ve been perfect. I don’t like a convex pedal like the 1up. Raceface atlas are great. The Bontrager composites are good, i ran the nukeproofs for ever as well. Dmr vault also great
Welcome back man, nice review. I used to have Impact Pros till I got some weird tearing at the top of the shoe from rubbing on my cranks or something. Got the freeriders recently ish and they're pretty good it's all I need tbh.
as someone with wide mid foot, 510 freerider is my only option... also i have found them being a lot narrower when they were bought by adidas
If you are getting toe pinch on descents have you tried lacing them differently so that the lower lace eyelets are not pulled closer together but the upper laces hold your foot so it is not able to slide forward and pinch that little toe? Maybe not lace the bottom two eyelets? Worked for me, I have wide feet. There is always amputation? I use 5ten impact pros and think they are great, I also have RC wildcats and sometimes have my feet leave the pedals where as thee 5tens always seem locked to the pedal. The wildcats seem hard wearing and the sole seems to be concave rather than flat.
@@cunning-stunt yeah I’ve got the bottom of the lace all loose, I think I have to stretch the material to where its not pulling in so much
not a bad bike and price is decent also.
I ride mostly with New Balance numeric 808 skate shoes, oh yeah they wear fast, oh yes people at the bike park laugh their asses off. But heck yeah they're comfortable and grippy 😂 *The notch in the middle of the sole is perfect for pedals, the flex in the sole is something lacking from MTB shoes. I tried many that are too hard for my monkey feets, notably ride concept and mavic deemax...
Have a look at the RC Wildcats next time , they`ve got the extra bit of ankle protection . Bit of a pain putting them on with the laces and strap but my feet certainly feel protected and secure . My feet kinda feel naked when I put the 5/10`s on . And the newer Wildcat versions definitely have way better grip than the older ones . Maybe take those RC`s of yours to a cobbler and see if they can stretch them out a bit to make them a bit wider . My latest pair of wildcats did have a problem on the right shoe being tight in the toe area , but after a few rides they must of stretched and now feel fine . Strange though because they were half a size bigger than my previous wildcats which were perfect fit from the get go . They must be using new molds or something .
@@dezzydiamond7121 ah yeah I might go to the cobbler! Just bought a pair of the Unparallel dust ups to test as well
