    Built a 27.5 EX511 32sp 2.0/1.8, and it’s the only rim I’ve put 100 hrs on (who knows how many shuttle and park laps, and an EWS qualifier) before needing to true it, the XM481 is what I put on the front, same profile as the 511, but weight similar to the flow mk3, and also superior. External torx nipples are awesome to build with too.

    Just ordered 2 of thees 30mm inner width for my fully damped Electric MTB . After 3 years this start of season 4 spoke nipples broke on it, first 1 then 3 more on a 3km ride at tarmac... Judging by how narrow the rims that is on now is I am pretty sure it is just 17mm and it has horrible tire flex if you do not pump up the 2.2" tires rock hard which is very unpleasant to ride offroad. Bike weigh 25kg and I 75kg, I suspect the rims was just to weak for such a heavy bike and that is why the nipples broke? In 40 years of riding bikes and motorcycles with spoke wheels this is first time ever any spokes has broke. I hope wider rims will help avoid spokes breaking, and it will for sure help with the horrible tire flex. I will be putting on as wide tire as there is room for later (most likely 2.7")

      Rondo Cat you’ll be much happier with the new wheels, they’ll feel much stronger

      @@mtbtelly5522 It will be my first time building a wheel myself as I have no other choice... There is no wide wheels that fit the 10cm rear hub on my bike so I have to make it myself. But how hard can it be ;) I friend of mine totally rebuilt a motorcycle wheel himself and it worked out fine, bicycle wheel should be more easy as you don`t ride at 110km/h so less need for perfect truing?

      @@mtbtelly5522 thinking about building some of the EX511 rims with I9 hubs. Thought about going Light Bicycle carbon but unsure about carbon

      Chris West that’ll be a good combo. I personally would never put carbon rims on my bike unless they’re given to me. Wheels take way too much abuse to be built of plastic. Long term reliability is everything with wheels

    Hey man, is that Bontrager hub still stock or did you upgrade it with the extra spring & pawl kit to take it to 108pt?By the way I'm Luke5sc from Tassie that got the fuel EX7 from over the edge Melrose, I just had a name change on UA-cam if you didn't realize.

      Captain MTB oh hey dude! Nah I’ve left it stock for now, I’m happy with the 54 point engagement, I’d like to upgrade it to see what difference it makes. Maybe something to look at in the future ✌🏼

    How would you rate the original bonti line 30 wheels that came on the bike, thinking about getting a remedy or a slash after your last vid, nice honest videos mate keep up a great work!

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  6 років тому +1

      tompee552 hey mate thanks. The bonti line comp 30 rims were butter, they felt great to ride on but dented and got beat up real easy. The hubs on ythe other hand are the best I’ve had, zero play, zero resistance in the bearings or the freehub, and the rear hub is still strong and free spinning after a fair bit of use. Its a shame they’re 28 spoke and not 32. You’re a bit limited with quality replacement rims at 28 hole. The ex471 or 511 would be the best replacement for a killer set of wheels.

    • @peterswanson2090
      @peterswanson2090 5 років тому +1

      Agree with this - ive got line comps and within a couple of weeks I had some major dents in them, so they seem to be made of pretty soft alloy. Replacing with ex511s so hopefully will have a more robust setup after that. Agree the Bonti hubs are nice tho.

    That bontrager hub is really impressive, what hub is it specifically?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 роки тому

      Dj Mystery it was just the standard bontrager hub that comes on the Trek Remedy and Slash. It served me well

      MTB Telly I’m using hope pro 4 and it has so much friction in the free hub even after I grease it and the bearings are so pitted and need replacing.
