A Court of Silver Flames by SJM made me realize that sentient houses that are helpful, protective and sassy is one of my favorite tropes. I was wondering why haven't I realized it before and it's probably like because I actively dislike scary haunted houses that try to murder or torment their inhabitants. And such haunted houses are a majority in fiction, I have found. Bryony & Roses by T. Kingfisher has one of such nice sentient houses and I love it 💖
Totally agree that I prefer houses that are spooky but probably not literally haunted by a ghost. I’ve realized that I’m not a huge ghost girlie either. Love alll of these except I haven’t read Thistlefoot :))) Also I recommend What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (if you haven’t read it already) if you want spooky weird house with Mexican Gothic vibes (IYKYK)
“Where The Dark Stands Still” is one of my favorite new reads, and it also has a really fun sentient house
