Again, you have "hit the nail on the head" 100%. Well done for saying it like it is. Some parents find it difficult to know what to do with their little ones when they are very strong willed and need some guidance. You will not crush your child's emotional intelligence by not letting them get into negative behaviours.

Love this! Thanks for the tips. When I decided to teach my 3 year old son his letter sounds I set up opportunities for learning throughout the house: magnetic letters on the fridge, foam letters in the bath tub, games/puzzles in the living room, flashcards on the table, electronic toys that say the letter sound for car rides. I thought I would just focus on a few letters at a time, but I ended up following his lead, no pressure. In just a couple weeks he had learned all the sounds. I would play games like "swat the sound" to get a better idea of what he knew. I was surprised that other than maybe 3 or 4 sounds he had them all down.
As he gets older I'll definitely move into a more structured routine. For now, it's working and I'm impressed with how quickly he's picked it up.

this was everything!! wish I wouldve found your video 8yrs ago. I have to try to correct my wrong doings in a 8yr old. But I am up for the challenge. It will be worth it once he tackles his academics better. Thank you for doing what you are doing to help us parents and our kids become better together!! I am taking notes and going to apply it.

Yesssss!!!! Calling it like it is was what I needed to hear thank you sir 🙏🙌❤
My daughter is doing fantastic with reading and other schoolwork but I feel like in other aspects of the day she could learn to hear "no" more and follow up with my threats more often.
Also with the screen time, yesss! She gets very inconsistent rules with screen time unfortunately we aren't the best with following our own rule. It's terrible on us. She doesn't get a lot of screen time (maybe around 2-4 hours to watch a movie or 2) it's usually at the end of the day with dad if he's had a long work day while I go to work.
Also, as I mentioned before on another video, she does really well with the Reading Eggs app and I think it helps that it's not so fast paced... it's pretty slowed down and she sometimes gets annoying with how they force her to listen lol
But I know we can take this advice and change up some things.

Step 4 reminded me of advice from a well known child and family psychologist who says that one very vital skill parents need is the ability to be comfortable with their child SOMETIMES being uncomfortable.

My son who is gifted and already knows a lot said the reason why a certain teacher was his favorite (I asked him out of all teachers he’s ever had which one is favorite). was because every single day he learned something from her. Kids WANT to learn. They like teachers who push them and expect a lot. It’s more rewarding for them than a lazy teacher and a lazy classroom.

Today was my first day as a special ed ta. I have loads of personal experience, but not much formal training. I had a non verbal child today who didn't say a word all day UNTIL I was sitting in front of a magnet board playing with letters and pictures with them. I was using the "sounds not names" method. The kid literally was starting to say the sounds back, or even said the letter itself (showed me X and said "x"!!!!).
If you're skeptical of any of this, please just try it out. And you can't do it once and say it didn't work. You can't lift a 100 lb weight without first lifting a 1 lb weight. It'll take time, patience, consistency and patience.

I've been doing all of these, so it's no wonder my 4-year-old is giving me a lot of pushback. Deep down, I knew I was doing it wrong, which is why I subscribed to your videos. I ordered your cards and I am looking forward to learning from you. I love reading, and I want to be able to share this hobby with my son since my husband is not into reading books. I also ordered hooked-up phones, but my son did not appear to care for them, and the material came in too fast for me-it was new material every month. My husband and I are full-time working parents, so your methods and tips are the best for our family.

I love your videos and will be implementing these tips. Both my kids learned the sounds quite organically, then they learned to blend sounds and read cvc words using balloons. My issue is the routine part. That is truly the hardest part for me. My son wants to learn and so does my daughter, they ask to do it ( but it’s when THEY want) so it doesn’t work for me. We also just came back from vacation and the first couple of times I tried to do learning time my son says “ugh I hope it’s not long” and that bothers me.

Love your vids. Problem is, in the classroom at school there is no games or activities. How then do I move forward. It's setting them up when the classroom is boring, so the teacher has a difficult time teaching the student who is used to learning through fun.
