    That's pretty cool to watch. I figured for sure he'd be pushing corn over going through the field, but it seems fine. It would seem like you would get lost looking at the view from the drone, but it's really a decent view from the cab. It wouldn't be any worse than shelling that corn other than you're going twice as fast.

      Spraying corn this tall, they shut the center section off in the front boom. With it raised all the way up it soaks the cab. Then there is a light boom mounted to the back that sprays what was shut off up front.

    Sounds like a Cummins! I'm sure if John Deere has anything to do with it, they will start using JD engines?

      John Deere uses a Cummins 14.9 liter engine in the 9620 series tractors right now

    • @PAFarms
      @PAFarms 7 років тому +2

      kw900lkevin I didn't know that. I figured it would be more cost effective to put one the their engines in. I guess it goes to show how universal the Cummins application is.

      PA Farms any piece of John Deere equipment that needs more horsepower than they can get out of the 13.5L they use a cummins engine. It doesn't make economic sense for John Deere to develop a larger engine for the few tractors and harvester that they sell that need that power.

      Manuel Hernandez I believe that New Holland purchased the Miller sprayer so the sprayer your talking about is a miller with New Holland paint

    • @pierreschreuder7328
      @pierreschreuder7328 7 років тому +2

      Not the same sprayer. The New Holland (blue) and Miller (red) are similar. This is a Hagie, made by a company that was purchased by John Deere. The John Deere and Hagie sprayers aren't similar though.

    Always use proper PPE filling sprayer, I'm sure he forgot to shut the valve off, maybe because you were filming him. Not quite sure why he hoisted the boxes of fungicide up the back steps? That would get really old if you did that for every load.

    I live in north central Ohio and they spray thousands of acres with an airplane. This wouldn't work in western Kentucky corn fields?

    • @TwoHappyChildrenFarm
      @TwoHappyChildrenFarm 7 років тому +5

      I guess if you OWN the sprayer, don't mind the compaction, and don't mind running over some corn, the ground rig makes sense. I don't know which gives better coverage, air or ground. that might factor into the decision as well. I'll never own a 120 foot boom sprayer, so airplane is the easy choice here.

      thats why i think helicopters are the best method. at least for ensuring complete coverage. i just dont like the chems they use. i would prefer something natural. guess ill have to plant my own crops.

    • @bigtractorpower

      +Jrbpa 57 farms use crop dusting planes and helicopters here in WKY. Some choose to use a sprayer like this Hagie.

    • @ToddFamilyFarm
      @ToddFamilyFarm 7 років тому +1

      airplanes and helicopters put on 2-5 gallons of spray and aren't as accurate. this sprayer is putting on 16 gallons of spray, and for effective fungus control at least 10 gallons of spray is necessary. crop dusters are pretty much a scam when it comes to fungicide application, then again, spraying tassled corn hoping to curtail a fungus infection is kinda pointless too, fungus infects the plant at much younger ages and should really be sprayed then

    I wonder what the Torgue power is? 365 HP sounds low because the Engine is so large, but maybe it's engine is producing more torque than horsepower.

    • @Blazer02LS
      @Blazer02LS 7 років тому +1

      That is very common for diesels. I would guess it is putting out close to 1,100 ft lb of torque or so at around 1,200-1,500 rpm.

    That is not the worlds largest row crop. There have been in Australia for years self propelled row crop sprayers that are between 160f (49.2m) to 200f (60.96m) so that is essentially a smaller sprayer in comparison.

    You don't see many cab over international tractors left on the road anymore. • @stirv6462

    Pretty sure nothing exists to blow pollen off the boom. He was probably blowing pollen off the radiator with the reversing engine fan. Being shown by the back up camera, which is looking right into the corn at the back of the machine where the radiator is.

    • @ToddFamilyFarm
      @ToddFamilyFarm 7 років тому

      well, that's not pollen, ( I'm guessing you know that, i just make the distinction for those that don't) that's tassle bits being blown around, but hagies have a air purge(which you prolbably also know) for their boom and pump. they also have air induction nozzles, adding air to the spray droplets reduces drift. i am speculating that he was purging the boom and was blowing the tassle bits out of the air induction ports in the nozzles, but thats a guess

    • @stirv6462
      @stirv6462 7 років тому +1

      I don't know of many people that use air inducted tips when applying fungicide. Large droplets don't provide the best coverage. When he took off, he didn't turn his solution pump back on, he just changed the display to a different screen. You can't use boom air purge without shutting off the solution pump.

  • @Comet925
    @Comet925 7 років тому

    Why do they wait to spray it until the boom is almost touching wouldn't you spray like a week sooner. Also you can't even see our of the cab so you have to have gps on it.

    • @stirv6462
      @stirv6462 7 років тому +3

      Fungicide has to be sprayed at tassel and full silk. Some of the additives in the spray can completely screw up the ears if you spray earlier than this. The product is only effective for a few weeks and you want it there when it needs it. All he has to do is line up the center of the sprayer with the center of the row. That's why he has a little white stick in the center of his field of view. He's probably using GPS to help him get back on the right rows when he turns around.
