Cool outfit...long day with a 2 row head...we used to chop corn the same way; seems like it'd take forever to get over a field. The song "Runaround" by Van Halen came out when I was a kid and it still makes me think about chopping corn.
This was a great opportunity to show how chopping looked 30-40 years ago. I think a 3 row is standard now from New Holland. Back then pull types were everywhere and self people’s were big time. Now self people’s are mainstream.
When I was a kid, my grandpa had 2 White 120’s, a 2WD identical to this one and a front wheel assist. Thank for sharing this video-it really brought back some memories!
We had a New Holland corn chopper in the '70s. Seems like back then they were probably the most popular corn chopper. I don't know who ended up being the best pull type corn chopper in the long run cuz it's been close to 50 years since I've been involved in chopping corn. We had a salvage pile that we got to pack with an 806 with duals on it.
Very cool. What tractor pulled the chopper. The 806 with duals would have been neat to see. Ultimately New Holland is the long time leader. New Holland is the only company in the United States still making a pull type today. Dion builds a pull type in Canada. John Deere discontinued pull types in 2019. Dion supplies a green chopper to Deere dealers. Gehl stopped making choppers in 2006. HESSTON stopped making choppers in the early 90’s and used Dion to supply HESSTON brand choppers until 2006.
@@bigtractorpower We had a IHC 1066 with a hydro. It was a great tractor for a full type combines and pull type corn chopper. Problem with those is that when the hydro oil would get hot and you pushed in the clutch it would not reengage and then you would jump off the tractor and head back to the farm and come back and see the tractor heading across the field on its own because it was not a neutral yet. Happened more than once. 806 was doing so it's very cool because originally it had a cab on it and my uncle took the cab off of it so it didn't have fenders on it. It was a great tractor and you could see the smoke coming out of the stack two miles away. Plenty of power
Throughout the year I have had many white tractors, 4-150 that at some point had run every piece of equipment even a rake but mostly pack silage (it had a silage blade) and run the blower. 4-210 which mainly rain a liquid manure spreader. Two 2-105s which were our main everything tractors, now I have 1 which occasionally runs the TMR mixer and wrapper. Two 2-155 one 4wd that has a tired motor. It used to run the chopper and chisel plow mostly. The 2wd one I use to mow, TMR, and sometimes chop.
Very nice history. The 2-105 is my all time favorite WFE. The Field Boss 4wds are always exciting to see. The 1974 4-150 was the first silver tractor from the company other than the Yard Boss which came out in late 1973.
The 2-105 is my favorite also. I was sad when I wore out the one. The only thing I wish is that they had a differential lock like the 2-155. Does the 2-120 have one?
That is a video I would like to make. I have all the sales brochures on them. I just haven’t found the Forage Harvester working in the field. It’s definitely an interesting history because international and then Cayce international both used new idea and then they switched over to the Heston built model. When Heston stop making pool type for harvesters, they contracted with Dion to make a Heston pool type and then add a new idea one to the line as well.
Thanks Jason for this video I enjoyed the white tractor and harvester. I My aunt had a dairy farm and I used my oliver 1650 to chop corn with John deere #35 harvester single row chopper and a johndeere 115 forage wagon as well as fox forage wagon.
Great corn chopping equipement jason thanks In Alsace in France a farmer friend use a white 2-155 170 hp with new holland fp 240 2 row and white 6600 ford with wagon
Question I'm not a farmer by any means. But here in Texas, they use combine to harvest corn. I know the Sweet corn is picked fresh due to being a truck driver for years and getting off the field. Why are you grinding all the stalks and corn together and placing them in this cart just to place them in a silo? wet or dry?
No my dad would always tell me that too! I really used the over -under -direct on all the Whites we had. And I love chopping corn. The last I did was with a CaseIH MX 285 with a 3 row gehl with a kernel processor. I thought I could have used 10 more hp to go a little faster! Lol
I agree and there's a lot of gears in that tractor 6-speed over and under, I think just a tad faster it feeds the chopper drum better and more evenly chopped corn, unless he's using a screen and he might be
We have a 100 as our TMR tractor. Had a 145 at one point too. Was never impressed with the 145. It should have had a 8.3 instead of a 5.9. I married into our farm. I came from a farm that ran Case and Case IH. They had better transmissions.
Always great to see White tractors!
They are well built tractors.
This reminds me of the importance of appreciating the simple things in life
Old school. My favorite out of the harvesting videos every year.
It was neat to find the tractor and the 790 forage harvester is a nice classic too.
Great video… slow and steady wins the race…. That white looks good..
I remember my neighbor chopping corn loved the smell of corn being blown up into the concrete silo thanks for the posting
Love this setup. Way less investment than self propelled. This is the way we do it, two row head also.
It is a great looking chopping team.
Very cool chopping team😉👍 the older machines get the job done too👍😄
I love those old choppers and you’d hear that worm and the sound of that silage blowing into the truck that ran beside it.
It’s a great sound of fall. One of my favorite farm machines.

In the early 70's ABBA was on the AM radio mounted on the fender of the tractors while chopping corn.

I haven’t been around that much chopping equipment. I always think it’s pretty interesting to see. Great video as always
Forage harvesting is one of my favorite things to film. Lots of interesting equipment involved.
Excellent work. 120 Tractor Harvesting Corn
I own a fwa white 120. It's been a real good tractor
Very nice. What jobs does it do?
Great chopping video

I am glad I could feature a 120. That’s neat that your grandfather had one of each.
Doing an excellent job of chopping
The 790 was a big seller for New Holland for many years.
We used a 2-105 on a two row Gehl. Nice combination. We really liked our White.
Same here, the old white gave our 3940 jd the what for!
Very cool. The 2-105 is my favorite WFE tractor.
@@bigtractorpower Sure was a great heavy tillage and work machine . Has a gear for everything.
Great video, like the 120 White! Using a 2-88 on a 790 chopper.
Nice ol classic tractor 👍👍

Gehl choppers we're pretty popular in Wisconsin too, could not go wrong with New Holland equipment
Chopped corn smells oh so sweet 😀👌
The "120" is doing WELL!❤❤
Definitely old school harvesting! 👍👍👍
Right out of the 1980’s. Great history in action.
Good to see some guys are not in hurry.
It’s a nice chopping set up.
He is in a hurry, just not enough to spend more than the land cost for his family on a machine.
This brings back memories

Good looking corn crop.
Excellent program
Be neat to see a video on the history of the Hesston built Case IH pull type forage choppers. Like the 8750.

Using a white 2-135 and new holland 880 chopper with number 8 new holland wagons
Hello! Another fine oldie...
This was a great classic to get to feature with the 790 forage harvester.
@@bigtractorpower 👌
Excellent video 👍
Thank you for watching.
What an awesome set up
It was a great classic to get to highlight.
GOOD LORD... THATS A LONNNGGVRow ... 😮
He’s got a great setup, White, NH, and H&S…🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Classic chopping team.
Nice 👍👍👍
Great corn chopping equipement jason thanks

Hi from Dexter🏠Missouri
Hi James.
Looks like a good time.
It was exciting to feature this classic harvest team.
Howdy bigtractorpower
Hi. Thank you for watching this classic chopping team.
Nice
Thank you for watching.
@@bigtractorpower thanks My brother
sadly my family sold our 790 and high dump, but i'm restoring an 880 so hope to be back chopping alfalfa next season
That neat on the 880. What will you run it with? What model dump wagon did you have?
@@bigtractorpower I have a Ford 8730 but could also put it on my AC8550, we had a Richarton high dump
👌Excellent👌 video.

GREAT tractor series . sad AGCO drop them . i know they "re-colored" them , but Cummins power and established driveline .... they were GREAT
I was sad to see the silver go into retirement in 2001.
Sure takes me back we run our chopper with 1655 Oliver been nice to a cab tractor
Very cool on the 1655. What brand of chopper ?
@@bigtractorpower new Holland it had a two we drop it back to one row I think it was a 817
If only they had kept the Meadow Green paint
Stay tuned for a video of a 2-155 Field Boss painted in Oliver Fleetline colors.
That's the way I remember it.
Me too. This size chopping was so common in the 80’s.
Good video.
Thank you this was a great classic team to find.
Too bad they don't make them like that anymore. So much simpler than today.
WFE and Oliver made some great long lasting tractors.
I think every dairy farm in the Midwest had a 2340-2640 or 2350-2650 with a loader on it!
The tank on the harvester, is it filled with water and for what purpose?? Thanks Jason 👍🏻.
The tank puts on an inoculate of cirrus acid to keep the silage from molding in storage.
Those are some big fields to only harvest two rows per pass.
👏👏👍👍👌👌🚜🚜
As always.
Thank you.
Good ol 12v
I think he could bump it up a gear!
Chopping corn puts allot on to a tractor. Probably better to take it at a pace that feels right rather than straining the tractor or chopper.
