The 110 shares many parts with the series 71 including the injectors and blower (with beefier end plates, bearings and higher overdrive ratio gearing), and Williams has the the ability to manufacture new blocks, cranks & head on special order. Detroit Diesel SA is still producing the 2 cycles for use in various commercial applications in South & Latin America, as well as for military contracts. The Detroit 2 cycle is not near as "extinct" as many of the internet "experts" would have you believe. Personally, and just FYI.... I formally studied Diesel Engine Design & Theory for 4 years back in the mid 1960's, specializing in the GM Diesel 2 cycle directly under P. Nicholas who was at GM Diesel from the very beginning and one of the chief designers of the very first 2 cycle prototype engine (a 4-71)... which first ran in early 1938 (I forget the exact date at the moment). Even though my life wound up taking a different path other than R&D at Detroit (as also offered training at Cat) Diesel... I still kept my hands in it building a few high-performance Detroits over the years and was invited to attend (and did) several Detroit Diesel "Power Parade" Seminars, partly due to a few innovations that I had designed and built while "building" (re: high performance) one of my own V12's and also due to a new design in the forced induction system (eliminated the roots blower) that I had developed on a "clean sheet" white paper for a whole new redesign of the Detroit Diesel 2 cycle engine while I was just a "junior" during my study years. Unfortunately, it was stricken down after making it all the way to Corporate (GM) heads for evaluation.. when it was discovered that the EMD division had already proto-typed the same turbocharger design in 63 and had a patent already applied for... and so, beat me to the patent office (with the help of P. Nicholas and others) a full year ahead of me. Ooops, my apology for the rabbit trail.

I have on file at least 11 companies that have full range parts lists and complete rebuild kits as well as at least 7 companies that are Factory Authorized full Reman centers in the US alone.
There are currently At Least 1.6 Million Detroit Diesels (series 53, 71 & 92) that are currently documented as "Operational" globally and the numbers are growing as they are being "rescued" and rebuilt or remanufactured... and again, those are the "Known" numbers.
There are thousands of 6-110's still in operation around the world as well, but the exact numbers are not known.
I formally studied Diesel Engine Design & Theory for 4 years back in the mid 1960's, specializing in the GM Diesel 2 cycle
directly under P.
It just got to Lsw tires. Watch video from Welker Farms.
