    Folks must think you’re crazy opening up a brand new motor but it’s what you should do with the BBSHD for sure. My first time the pinion gear was stuck so bad down next to the nylon gear that I ended up pulling the entire stator out of the magnets. Let me tell you that was unbelievably difficult to do with those strong magnets. Once I got it out I was able to wiggle the pinion a little to get it unstuck from the bearing. Put the new Peek gear in and all new Mobil 28 grease. Be careful hooking up the Hall sensor plug(white plug) I fried my asi controller when it was just slightly loose. It was enough that the motor was jarring(stuttering) a bit until I got the motor spinning enough to have the motor figure out its poles. Nice work and definitely get rid of those Anderson connectors and install xt90 anti spark. Hope you got a deal on that BBSHD off ALI express. I bought a motor only off eBay for $500 that I thought was a good deal. Ali express is probably even better.

      The BBSHD was 360$ on AliExpress during that 11.11 sale, So yeah if it works I'm super happy. i think i might have some funny hall sensor business going on too, i have that stuttering until it goes into sensorless mode. In the phaserunner suite it detects the halls and can do the autotune and the wheel spin test just fine, its kinda weird. I think part of the problem is the slack in the drivetrain it needs to spin slow at first to get that ratcheting cassette freewheel thing engaged. Thanks for sharing your experience with your bbshd good to know others had that problem with the hall sensor stuttering too, thats very useful!

    Thanks for the video, I had fun watching you
    What is your experience with the motor and the bottom bracket?
    would like to use it on trails with jumps

    I don't know if you can see my other comment as it doesn't appear for me but you have the 10k ntc when you setup the PR, although its just reading the ambient air temp, I highly recommend moving it onto the windings!

      not sure where some of the comments go. Lol. But yeah thanks for pointing that out, it was my understanding the bbshd used to come with a thermistor in the motor as well as the controller. But apparently they started using a different kind of thermistor. I had it set up as a Bafang ntc in the CA. but that temp seems wrong. I set it to the 10k 3950 or whatever it is. and it seems closer to what it should be. Still need to test further to see if thats right, i have heard bafang is now putting different thermistors in the bbshds that are not 10k or 'bafang'. So i might end up openuing up the motor and putting in a 10k thermistor from grin , i got a couple!!

    I've just upgraded the one in my BBS02b....and it's loud.

      @@benbanks6880 really? The peek gear made my HD more quiet, i am curious what yours sound like? is it steel or peek? I have a steel one laying around that i never tried because it seemed like it was damaged in shipping. They throw a bunch of steel gears into a box together and the teeth were all messed up. It would have been loud just because its steel, but if the teeth aren’t meshing right it would be louder. The nylon gear i put in my BBSHD is loud AF . luna peek gear is quiet and the bearing inside is much better.

    Heh... I just got a BBS02b bare bones motor off AliExpress 2 months ago(I have lots of spare parts lying around) to build a e-bike for my god daughter. I've been running a BBSHD powered bike since 2019. First thing I did was solder in a new input power lead with a XT90 connector on 10GA wire. Sucks that we have to dig out the Potting material in the controller to replace the whole lead. Filled the hole in with Silicon just for piece of mind. Doesn't really need it as the controller is sealed with a rubber gasket. I did the PEEK as well on my HD. Didn't bother with the 02 build.

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah the 02 needs some modifications to handle anything beyond stock settings, The magnets on the 02 rotor falls off easily. It doesn’t have the IPM rotor like the HD. The hd is a beast .

      @SternLX 4 місяці тому +3

      @@EBikeBuilder_ Indeed. I only wish Luna would sell their Ludicrous V2 controller for the HD separately. They want you to buy a whole bike from them to get it as an option part. I want to step up from 52v to 72v but don't want the hassle of an external controller.

      @@SternLX I've bought from Luna in the past, and while the products are good and ship quickly in the US, they can be a piece of work to deal with, i think they are getting lazy

      It’s from Luna Cycle “SILENT PEEK GEAR BBSHD” lunacycle.com/bbshd-silent-peek-gear-nylon-gear-replacement/ . The peek is a stronger material that can handle higher heat. And the most important part is the bearing on the inside of the gear!!

  • @Bengy22
    @Bengy22 3 місяці тому +1

    Hey when you installed your peek gear could you tell if it had any of that grease inside the bearing like the nylon one? I just got around to looking at mine as I was going to install it tomorrow and noticed it was bone dry! Thanks a lot Luna, claimed it was "pre-lubed" with what air?!? I emailed them and they told me not to add anything, but running it dry seems really bad

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_  3 місяці тому +1

      23:38 I don't think my peek gear had any lube on it. LOl i was reading the product description the other day and I read that but It didnt even register at the time. Yeah mine didnt have any lube on it either. I have ordered 3 BBSHD nylon gears and 3 BBS02 nylon gears from Ali Express and they all come with something on the inside. Its clear grease of some kind. But personally I have had major problems with that slipping, multiple times. And when its slipping the rotor will be spinning the nylon gear. and you hear it whizzing like crazy inside the motor. But the chainring doesnt spin at all. And the nylon gear will abruptly catch onto that shaft and slip around and its really rough and a bad problem to have, You can get stuck. What fixed it for me was to completely clean all the grease off that inner bearing of the nylon gear. Im not sure what they put on that inner bearing of the nylon gear But its clear. The thing is made to roll in one direction and catch in the other direction. So if its not the right thing. Or if the wrong kind of grease gets inside that inner bearing, it will slip around and be totally F'd. It can happen if the moly grease migrates into the inside part of the motor , if you really pack too much grease into that big steel primary gear, grease can migrate inside. and then goes inside the nylon gear and gunks it up. Luna is probably right about not adding anything. It does seem to work Fine and can solve the slipping problem. But yeah all the nylon gears i get on Ali Express are thoroughly greased on the inside with something special.

      @@EBikeBuilder_ Lol I can't get a straight answer from anyone don't know who to trust. Luna said keep it dry, HV said mobil 28 in a light coat is fine (also said the peek gears he sells come pre lubed from the bearing factory, luna uses the same one). I asked on facebook in a bafang group and most said keep it dry. So more said keep it dry, but the fact that I know it should come lubed from the factory makes me concerned. I did find out the grease the german bearing factory uses and cheapest I could find was $60, another stupid specialty grease aint no way i'm paying that much

      @@EBikeBuilder_ On this bike you left the grease on the axle, I'm thinking I will do the same. Did you experience any slipping with this install where you then had to go back and fix it or has all been good?

    Just found your channel. New subscriber. I am a BBSHD guy myself. Looking to do some modifications. Do these gears do anything for performance? Thanks.

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_  8 місяців тому

      Its more about heat than performance, The nylon gears can handle up to 60C and peek is up to 80C. From what I’ve heard. If the nylon gets too hot the teeth can start getting damaged

    What was the cost of the new gear ?

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_  4 місяці тому

      From luna i think it was 70 usd or something. It’s better than the nylon gear for sure, sounds cooler, stronger material that can handle higher heat, and the most important part of the whole thing is the bearing on the inside is high quality. BUT with that being said the nylon gears work fine and are 10 bucks on Ali express. You can tell s difference between them but in the future i will just use nylon gears unless i find some big reason to use the peek one.
