MTB Ride from October 5th Before I Did that Big Crash
Where can I learn on how to use and setup flipsky escs for e scooter? Appreciated.
Also cooked in Europe. Lots of controversy on e-bikes here in general. Bikes here are limited to 25 km/hr EPAC mode. But in reality the motors on them are way more performant than EPAC mode. You have two types of e-bikes here and pedal assist is always obliged otherwise it's filed as a motorized vehicle. Type 1 is an electric bike with pedal assistance up to 25km/hr & type 2 are speed pedelecs which require a plate, drivers licensen etc and go up to 45km/hr with pedal assistance. Classifications are also based on motor power. On paper the S2 for example is marketed as 250w I believe because it's being limited. But of course if you use the app n stuff you can unlock the full power of the motor (1250w?)... Doomed to be cooked here if the law decides to double down on it. S73 never boomed the way it did in the US and never will be able to because of these laws. Target audience for e-bikes here are kids, young adults and maybe early adopters of fun new toys. Other than that these bikes get a lot of hate because it's kids zooming around on these at illegal speeds/awful driving conduct which gives other riders a bad rep & in return we catch more flak cus of how we are portrayed in the news.
I've seen must of your Vesc videos hoping to figure out my issues with my geared hub motor. I keep having studdering when accelerating from stop or when I coast for a little and then hit then give it immediate throttle. I was thinking it was because I was running sensor less and planned on getting it all connected again to see if it fixed my issue. But you are running sensorless on the bafang without any issues??
@@naterivera1 mine studders slightly from a stop, but can be avoided by pedaling. The sensorless works quite well. I don’t have any studder while moving. You could try to increase the open loop ERPM , or maybe go into ADC throttle settings and increase the positive ramping time, there’s different FOC observers and advanced settings . But out of the box sensorless has always worked well for me. On my hub motors. What motor are you using??
@@EBikeBuilder_ Thanks for the reply. I am using a 48v500w geared hub that came with my Hurley mini swell. My main goal is increasing the torque. I initiallly setup a FSESC 4.12(max 57v) which is one of the earlier vesc with 48v and work great with twice the torque, apart from the start studder which I dont mind pedaling for a second. Stock controller wouldnt work unless you were above 3 mph. Wanted to get a little more torque using a larger 52v battery and flipsky 75100 v2. I get a bit more studders at the beggining and as well when I jam the throttle after coasting. Did yours run smoother at all when you used the hall sensor? I do have my motor amps up to like 120, so maybe turn that down a little. Also, did you happen to change you the wiring to the hub motor to thicker gauge? Saw some people do that to push their motors more since supposedly thats on of the points of failiure when pushing motors more then they are rated.
@@naterivera1 if its a typical geared hub with nylon gears i would recommend 75 motor amps to be safe. The bafang official gears i have used 90 motor amps without problems. But when using AliExpress 7$ replacement nylon gears I limit the motor amps to 75. The nylon gears will tend to explode beyond 100 phase amps. So I am surprised yours being set to 120 has not damaged them to be honest. Lol I would lower the motor amps for sure. I wonder if your gears are nylon / steel hybrid gears?? Your motor might not have the same number of motor poles or internal gearing ratio that mine does. In my case my motor has 20 magnets (poles) on the rotor , and the internal gearing is 5:1 so i use 20 * 5 or 100 “effective’ motor poles for my VESC motor setup. If your motor has a rotor with a different number of magnets, or a different gearing ratio, then the Motor Poles you would want to use during motor setup with your motor would be different. It will always studder in sensorless to some extent. I have used it in Hall Sensor mode previously and it does help with resolving that studder. But after I broke my hall sensors the sensorless works really well with VESC and I don’t really feel the need to use hall sensors in my case. Even riding on a mountain bike trail it was only a problem when climbing and the bike would almost come to a stop. But even with hall sensors if you are crawling slowly up a hill, the hall sensors can have a studdering problem also. I wonder if the clutch in your motor is old and sticking or something?? Have you ever opened your motor?? You might want to verify the # of magnets and internal gearing, it could use different size gears than my motor and would require different numbers during setup. I think theres also a startup current boost or something some where, but it has never helped fix cogging / studdering for me
Jesus Christ, I'm so happy that I have the experience and knowledge to build my own packs. Not only is it more affordable, It's also light years better in terms of performance, safety and reliability. All of this safety and performance stuff probably seems very much overblown but trust me, the energy contained in just one 18650 cell is mind-boggling when It's all released in seconds after a intentional smash with a splitting maul. Yeah sounds crazy but it was a controlled environment and I did it just because I had some extra cells and was curious. I also had an incident years ago where I accidentally dropped a number 11 exacto tip first onto a fully charged 3S 3200mah 60C lipo that was already installed in a high performance RC airplane. The blade punctured one cell of the pack. I saw a few sparks followed by thermal runaway of the cell. The outgassing was tremendous. The pouch blew up like a blimp eventually the boiling electrolyte ignited sending a beautiful red flame about a foot and a half high. I later learned the lithium causes that red color in the flame. The adjacent cells quickly suffered the same fate. The plane was in my basement when it occurred. Luckily, being an electrician has kind of desensitized me to sudden high energy of events. I've witnessed my fair share of arc faults, high voltage short circuits etc. My basement did not have a door to the outside. Luckily I sprung into action clearing the area around the flaming pile of lithium batteries, balsa, servos speed controllers and mono coat covering. Should have seen me trying to explain that one to my now ex-wife. 😅
I’m conflicted about it. I think the mother definitely should have known better. I do however think it is probably a correct statement that advertising these as e-bikes is false under the law. I’d like the laws to be updated to account for these kinds of situations, but companies selling things that are specifically designed to circumvent e-bike laws while still calling them e-bikes is a problem. Few people would buy a $3,000+ ebike like this unless it could go well faster than 28.
28:48 to be fair, class3 e-bikes aren't meant to be on bike paths based on how most states treat them...the speed limit on most bike paths and shared paths is 15 or 20mph...
26:26 i am sorry, but people are capable of solving more than one problem at a time. Also, if you don't want anything to do with CA, it's simple - stay away 🤷🏾♂️
The original class systems were meant to be as classified here in the new law but manufacturers used the ambiguity in the OG definitions to sell non-compliant models...by making things clearer for each class. Ebikes going over 28mph are mopeds and not e-bikes...that has been the case from the beginning...
Sounds like she should sue the goverment for being unconstituitional
Been using Sturmey Archer 5-spd and 8-spd IGHs on my BBSHD setups (only running 52v). Using cheap BMX chain and 38t and 42t chainrings. Both hubs still working perfectly fine in the over 5+ years of usage. I've probably racked up at least 12k miles on the 8spd. Mind you, I don't abuse them - I lay off the throttle when changing gears. Not sure how it'd hold up to 72v but I think even at that power level, so long as youre abusing the IGH, it should last as long as, if not longer, than a cassette setup. Also have a Sturmey Archer 3x9 IGH/cassette combo hub I've been using a 48v Turnigy RC outrunner on for over 14 years that's still working today (check out my video history).
I updated the stock 6.02 75 300 r2 FW to the 6.05 75 300 r2 No HW limits version. I just switched to the 6.05 75/100 V2 no HW limits. Honestly, I see no difference between the two no HW limits versions. Weird.. Im Using a 20s6p pack to power a e scooter hub motor. Been using VESC for a LONG time, tried and fried just about every variant including every FS75/100 75/200 revisions starting with the original "project box" version. The 75/100 pro V2 is phenomenal for its price. Im pushing peaks of 6700W into my highly modified hub motor. Insane torque, non stop linear acceleration to speeds so high that I would have a hard time believing if I didn't do it myself. Took me a long time to figure out how to tune these particular hub motors but I now can dial them in to perform in ways I could have only dreamed of just a few years ago. Not sure if its the phase filters but man, the V2 pro is the best yet.
6.05 works great with my hub motors. But if you want field weakening it seems to be broken in 6.05. I need to roll my BBSHD bike back to 6.02 until i figure out why that is
@EBikeBuilder_ That's odd. Field weakening works perfectly for me. Current is currently (no pun intended) set to 60A in the past I've actually gone past 100 amps of field weakening current with no issues. I don't use hall sensors anymore. I gave up a while back.. I'm pushing my motors very hard. I had to manually mill out the hubs side covers so they look like spokes. Lol . That was necessary because just a few thousand Watts would short a winding from heat build up. After venting I've reached incredible powers but The stator still gets hot. So hot I think it quickly fries The hall sensors. Anyway, I found using VSS I can do away with hall sensors. There's a point to me saying this. ERPM with hub motors is critical to get correct. I had so much desyncs and low speed cogging before I figured the whole ERPM thing out. It's going to be much much lower than anything the FOC wizard or v e s c defaults will churn out. Sensorless I set open loop ERPM to as low as 50. When I was using Hall sensors I set sensored ERPM to 50, sensorless open loop to 100 or 150. There's some interpolation ERPM setting that can be lowered accordingly as well. One more thing. By their nature Hub motors produce a lot of back EMF. I find the observer in FOC settings is set far too high. Mine usually comes in around 3.14 after FOC wizard. I drop it down too 1 or lower even 0.5. I've had some success lowering flux linkage as well. F o c wizard sets mine to around 17 or 18.000. . I drop it a few to around 15.000. As I'm sure you know, there's tons of other tweaks that you just got to screw around with to find out if it's going to help or not. Of course start slow and low with your settings. A little up or a little down see what the difference is. I find it rather addictive. The quest for the perfect tune becomes almost as thrilling as the quest to avoid winning the Darwin award.
@@EBikeBuilder_ The BBSHD is a middrive IPM motor correct? Stupid question but have you tried MPTA? I might have that mixed up with solar inverters power tracking or something but there's a similarly abbreviated setting in FOC advanced useful for IPM motors and many other settings that I feel would make a huge difference with relatively small diameter/high speed, geared motors.
So today I had a chance to try out FW version 6.05 75 100 V2. As I stated above I was previously running FW version 6.05 75 300 R2. I have to say, with all settings being equal I prefer the 6.05 75 300 R2 over the 6.05 75 100 V2 FW version. Right off the bat I noticed my motor was not running as quiet / smooth as it did with 75 300 R2. I also was not getting as much power. What's 75 100 V2 FW I would get about 4,700 watts peak. I understand that's still an incredible amount of power but with 75 300R2 I was getting around 6,500 watts peak. In addition to the increased noise and decreased power I also noticed it was much easier to trigger a code fault timeout. It was actually pretty annoying to be honest. I'm meticulously nitpick my logs.. I'm absolutely certain I'm not comparing one with a half charged battery to another with a fully charged battery. The firmware current settings and every other settings were exactly the same between both FWs. I'm beginning to wonder if the 75 100 V2 firmware is for the non-Pro V2 model. If I recall correctly when the pro versions first came out in addition to the built-in Bluetooth they had slightly improved components. I can't recall exactly what it was but I do remember something to that effect. I'm not sure if I have the time to compare code side by side. Oh every FW version was no hardware limits. I'll probably switch back to 6.05 75 300 R2 tonight and see what occurs see if I'm not just imagining things. Lol I don't think I am but you never know. Anyway just some food for thought
Second renaissance of DIY e-bikes, maybe lunacycle will get back in the game with killer products for us to build with. Now that motors, controllers and batteries can be so much more compact than back in the 20-aughts before off the shelf bikes started dominating a new age of stealth builds is before us!
yeah kind of a bummer Luna abanonded ebikes for all the Sur Ron/ Talaria stuff
My car is 2005 also and i set up the same bike as yours except mine is 1000w version. The only thing i need suspension fork.
super has been cooked for a few years. couldnt produce their emoto/street bike for some reason, couldnt halve the price of their bikes and couldnt come out with anything new besides variations of the R series.
i've anecdotally heard a bajillion people complain about their customer service being terrible and non existent
This whole thing is not right, if we purchased these bikes when they were legal, it doesn’t make sense for them to suddenly declare our previous purchases illegal. These bikes are expensive, and most of them come with throttles, whether it’s a thumb throttle or a twist throttle. It’s unreasonable to tell someone who spent thousands of dollars on a bike just a few months ago or who have owned them for years that it’s now illegal to own. I also suspect that larger companies like Super73, Electra, Giant, along with many others which produce throttle equipped bikes, will take legal action if the bike sold prior to 2025 is considered illegal. A recall of all bikes sold before 2025 would be impractical and infeasible.
yeah I agree. The throttle / pedal distinction is unnecessary. The current system of ebike classifications is fundamentally flawed. Apparently the people making the classifications don't know anything about ebikes. I don't even like talking about these existing ebike classifications because its a bunch of BS that no one cares about and police have better things to do than check if I am going 8mph faster than allowed with my throttle. I dont think anything will change
@ I was thinking the exact same thing, and if they've ever ridden an E bike, they would know that pedal assist can often be more dangerous than the throttle. There have been times where I barely pedaled from a stop and my bike jumped from underneath me.
@@EBikeBuilder_ didn't the wording grant bikes produced before the end of next year exempt from the rule ?
A speed limit sign on every path and track in the country is impracticable .
i agree
YT videos of the Juiced Rip Racer really captured my imagination over the winter a couple of years back and got me interested in upgrading my bike. Its sad to see someone's life's work /dreams being auctioned off. Maybe a few more bankruptcies and 30+ felony convictions from now Tora can become President of America.
i always thought JUICED bikes were cool, I like how they look. it seems like they were assembled in the US. Major bummer about the bankruptcy. I heard a rumor one of the founders was abroad and on the run 😬
WOW THATS RIGHT DOWNTOWN. i am 20 min away. i bet he is hating newscum lol
i wish i lived there lol they got boxes of motors for sale. Its probably a GOOD THING I dont live near the sale
@@EBikeBuilder_ WEAK motors i want the forks and wheels. ya cant find good forks under $200. alibaba prices are prime
You know what these really need? Racing. They may look lame out in public on the bike lane, but you gotta admit - it would be a blast to get a half dozen of them together on a go-kart track and battle it out.
I don't think it's anything technical, what it is that that is a the way they program the power curve. That is what Mr Central driver did is adjust the power curve.Don't know why they have the power curve they do.
2 things, 1 the article you read is incomplete and left out vital information from the official lawsuit. The karen here has a 12 year old and thought it was a good idea to buy little jonny a $3k ebike and ride it to school. super73 has always said on their website it is only for riders 16 and older ages. the karen mom here did not do her research, she had the $$$, needed her 12 year old son to get to school on his own and that would be one less thing for her to worry about. school has rules to follow and they told her her kid cannot ride the bike to school and register it with the school. the karen here does not want to admit she was wrong and didnt read the terms on both the school and super73 website and so she goes to sue like in true karen fashion instead of admitting she didnt do any research 2 class 3 is over 28 mph which excels the cali law of 20mph and 750w power output. class 3 goes over the top speed and motor power output. thats why its removed. eventually all other ebike companies will have to comply to the same issue here. its not just super73
Certain groups could not police themselves. These lazy law authors are uninformed of the stats autos trucks buses are judged not by capability to go fast but by operation why are bikes segmented by capability. The law assumes random and situational inspection which is always a bad practice of enforcement! Also, It is the association problem where you are assumed to be the same as other pev riders. I respect others and though I can go 50mph I go 10 or less around pedestrians and stop for elderly or small kids to pass. I wave to every biker hold my hand up to receive a wave back. I’m no saint but I look like I’m respectful of others. 1 in 20 bikers sneer at me they are the ones that assume I am an enemy just by virtue of being on a PEV
I think they are mainly trying to keep from having to take the throttle off. Class 3 ebikes are not allowed to have a throttle but class 2 can have a throttle. How stupid is that!! I hope Super 73 make it through this ok.
@@aaronbinder6903 yeah the throttle nonsense is silly, 20mph is soo slow. If those are the options, id rather be pedaling for 28mph. I don’t see how the throttle / pedal distinction is an effective part of ebike laws. I used to ghost pedal around too But eventually it gets uncomfortable and unhealthy to be ghost pedaling with no resistance.
I believe the battery law is geared more to the diy guys. Sometimes these guys tend to supply custom build batteries on custom e-bike builds.
I will second that.Keep your whining to yourself. This bike isn't for crybabies.
@@Daniel-h8l3v 😂😂😂😂😂
UA-camrs, kids/parents, and those that want to do what they want ruining ebikes one step at a time.
The bill focuses on importers and dealers with the police powers of the state. An important section is the labeling of class. I expect that somewhere in the state bureaucracy, there will be a mechanism for makers to register their models with compliance documentation. For riders on the street, this means that the cops will have a list of "legal bikes." If you are not on that list, your bike could be impounded and destroyed plus you could face criminal liabilities. Remember: These people want you to reside in 15 minute villages where you can walk to anywhere you are allowed to go in 15 minutes. In Germany, in WWII, wounded German soldiers who could not return to duty in 30 days were euthanized. Check out Bill Gates talking about useless eaters and you will understand where this is going.
I live in California. Driving a car, many people are driving 80 mph in 65 mph zones. I see numerous cars with burnt out headlights and taillights. Super bright, illegal aftermarket headlights are common. I seldom see police around, and it has become very rare to see a car pulled over. So where are all of these cops going to come from who pull over people on bicycles to check on the size of their motors or what type of throttle they have???
First if you did not want to talk about the laws then why the phuk would you even bring it to the forefront ? People need to get there priorities straight before they even start ! Im out of this playground !
if you want to talk about the laws, go watch the video I did yesterday, was my point, I mentioned the law because its related to this lawsuit
There’s more of us than them. Create that petition
ebike classifications are so dumb, I don't see it happening, civil disobedience will continue. What are they gonna do, put your ebike on a DYNO to see if you were going 8 MPH over the class 2 limit??? Its laughable
@ I’m older and I never spoke up in 1988 when they started drivers license policies. Regardless of any policy I now know it’s best to speak up early to show them “we ain’t buying it”.
28mph is pretty slow for a 5k bike.
i agree they have always been overpriced even when they went 28+ mph
Here in Quebec if it even looks like that regardless of the power it is illegal with a $600 fine . Or if it does not have a DOT sticker . Something wo..e is out to crush any innovation in the name of safety, the we will protect you bs . Same happened with model aircraft ect. They will stop the diy with the UL and sticker law next .
Try again to comment as probablly censored. The lawsuit was filed on Dec 4th & the school district isn't the irrelevant DMV on who can ride any bicycle. So the complaint is online & says Super 73 sold a 1200W nominal motor peaking at 2200W so you're way back machine needs more range 😂. The class action tells you they're likely leftist globalists IMHO.
Here's my video about the new California EBike Laws SB-1271 ua-cam.com/video/PC2bZuBXEOY/v-deo.html
I would never pay their prices to only be able to go 20 mph that is crazy. You could spend a 3rd of the price for the same thing. Sure it's not a super73 but would people care or would it matter? I know I wouldn't care. My power goat is cheaper and alot faster and I think it's better looking than a super 73.
yup they are cooked till they get class 3 back, or lower prices if class 2 only
@EBikeBuilder_ even class 3 is still way over priced.
your bike will eentually fall to a class 2 20mph ebike...eventually. its not just super73. guaranteed all other ebike companies will have to follow and be complaint to laws and regulations
@witchhunt91 the difference is that super 73 will not let you do it and restrict it. On my power goat it is up to me to do as I want. So that is the difference between super 73 and others.Which is why I would never pay the super 73 prices and most will not pay for that at that amount of money. Super 73 will go out of business if they still continue to restrict with no option.
Super73 clearly had it stated you must be 16yr old for specific bike. The parent here bought it for her 12yr old. That was her negligence not Super73. The main problem here is entitlement. The school district wouldn't allow him to park it on school growns. The entitled mom lives in Marin County (in the top 5 richest counties in the United States), so they have money to go the distance in the fight. Instead of accepting that she made a poor decision, she wants to shift blame on the manufacturer. Nobody forced her to buy it. It was her choice. Since it was for her child & for himmto ride to school, it is her responsibility to do the research and make, sure it is safe for her child. People dont want to take responsibility for their actions anymore. They always want someone else to blame. Unfortunately this will hurt everyone else.
i agree, probably the same parents that give their toddlers iPad, TV, and video games so they don't have to deal with parenting
for real
( ! )afornia. The ruling means that a clueless old Lib Dem Alcoholic with a law degree has passed judgement on what should be normal for everyone.
I might be interested if the suit comes with the bike ☝🤓
So my dual motor 3000 watt peak power ebike that can go 35 mph even though it has a fully working pedal assist system isn't considered an ebike in California... good thing I live in florida
Party of the first part agrees as in Sec 3 paragraph 1 -5, to be detained while personal property is inspected and citizens are questioned about said property without legal counsel present where confiscation of the property to take place upon findings from law enforcement? Is this thing happening? Is this real ? Why am I being detained?
Is it ok if i change the connector of the bbsh into xt90 connector?
yeah, its just dc voltage theres a positive and negative lead, you can use xt60, xt90, etc. Just make sure to solder with correct polarity
Speed limits and loud horns, something to let people know your are behind them. Many have ear buds in..
Walk your bike on sidewalks. Make the bikes walk speed controllable, I can't walk 5 miles an hrs.
they just blocking china good accu those all have same charger for 48v accu my china accu life true school train station etc why dont ban cars they can drive faster have heavy motor 120mil hr
The requirement of selling a battery, and charger as a package is a terrible idea. I understand the reason. My charger went bad. I wouldn't want to buy a $700 battery because I needed to replace the charger.
This bill law it's go nowhere
Californians love control they always vote that way .
Its says they can take your bike if not sticker by fire code enforcer and or had misleading specs. And they don't need to reimburse you.
A law that's vague is void for vagueness. You need to read about the Class action lawsuit against Super 73 who is in Irvine, CA & IMHO they should request an Injuction against CA to follow Fereral Regulations on Ebikes. As you say when reading the bill & not what was actually signed into law, is a pilot program in San Diego County to expire in 2029 & batteries sold statwide need a testing agency approval like you talked about. Speed limits are irrelevant when no speedometer is legally required.
i heard there was a lawsuit against super 73 alleging "their bikes can be modified to go faster than 28MPH" or something along those lines, it sounded very silly to me - a lawsuit against the manufacturer for a modification that end users are making. Lol
@@EBikeBuilder_once you agree to participate with 3rd party you are screwed
@@stevecumming6427 show me any information about the “testing” done on ebike battery’s by any agency. I’ve searched and found nothing. Those people don’t even have e-bikes 😂😂
I expect that there will be a period of enforcement - with a few "sensational news stories" and 18 months later the average cop will not want the bother because it will mean doing paperwork. What I also expect is that it will be a "go-to violation/justification" for any cop having a bad day to harass people they don't like. I can definitely see cops using this to justify confiscating bikes from any person of color riding through a WASP neighborhood.
